Just ordered mine.
Estimated ship date 6/17.
Will likely be ordering the first NGFF 128GB commercially available and will then use the 1TB as storage as I have tons of files and documents.
Will also upgrade to the ultrabay 750m which they will be releasing or will get a class action lawsuit at this point...
Don't really care about the screen being glossy or matte. Got the 1600x900.
Sold my Y400 as I feel Lenovo is having some development problems with the ultrabay for it and likely some firmware/thermal issues. They will likely get it right for the Y410P but something in the chip will cause conflict with Y400. Think im crazy? Look at my signature. Been down that road before. Thats how it works.
Did have a PNY 1600MHZ 16GB 9-9-9-24 kit for my Y400 but returned it unsealed to Newegg.
Have a 128GB Samsung 830 2.5" drive to test the laptop at full speed just for testing then put the 1TB back in.
Likely going to run Windows 7. Already scoured the internet crawling to find latest drivers for all components right down the the MEI drivers.
Did a lot of testing at 1600x900 and also at 1920x1080p on my 27" monitor with my Y400 to get the Min/Avg fps. Test almost all modern games from Crysis 1 to Metro Last Light.
This is likely going to be a long term thing. I see myself sitting in August with the machine that the Y410P should have been from the jump...but its STILL the best thing out.
Honestly, the only things I wish were better are the HD Webcam and more USB 3.0 ports.
With my Y400 I turned off all power savings options, fresh Windows 7 install, all newest drivers from across web, 50% brightless, pulled power and let it sit at desktop with nothing running. Got 5hrs 7min first time then 5hrs 24min second run. Not a real world test but it does show the 'stretch' of the battery.
Did a lot more testing dealing with the hard drive speeds, Windows 8/7 install speeds, USB 3.0 vs 2.0 thumbdrive/HDD performance as well. Did not have time to post it all as I work long hours.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about the Y400. I likely have the answer. I basically examined every aspect with a magnifying glass including discoverying that the mSATA slot is the only SATA3 option while the HDD slot is SATA2 and the CD-ROM connector is SATA1. Yep...
If the coupon truly does 'expired' today and the price goes higher I win. If it goes lower ill ask for price adjustment. If it stays the same I still win.
VERY EXCITED!!!!

Okay guys, time to share what I found out a few days ago.
Y400 Ultrabay do work entirely with the Y410P and there should be a Y400 GN35 with a 750M, but it still needs a 170w brick. (For product, search IdeaPad 170w at Lenovo's store) I did ask customer support, but don't quote me on anything.
As for what kind of Ultrabay, I too, am interested, it is a variation the size of a standard DVD drive, but 18mm thick. Is the DVD drive slot load? Maybe a gallery?
Thanks,

for those who has the y410p
1. does it weight 4.8 pounds
2. does it work with optimus using intel 4600 or do u need to go in the nvidia panel each time to force it on iGPU
3. how hot does the gpu get when gaming for a long time (say for ex 2 hours)
4. is the gnu the gddr5 version
by all means if you know the answer reply ^_^ -
1) It probably weighs the full 5.5lbs but it is hard to tell for sure.
2) Not being sure how Optimus is supposed to work, I can only say that for gaming on battery it will NOT automatically switch to the Intel 4600, which is actually faster than the down-clocked GT 750M running on battery. It may switch to the Intel 4600 for desktop apps to conserve battery power, but it is hard to tell.
3) In the limited time I spent with it, and when checking it last night after my brother had been playing games, I can say the machine stays surprisingly cool. The most important factor will always be the ambient temperature where you are using it, of course. The GPU temp topped out at 65C and the CPU temp topped out at 72C. -
Can anyone confirm if Widi is preinstalled on these machines?
Thanks! -
Hey guys I got mine today!
I made an unboxing, which I'll edit later tonight and post up.
If you have any games or stuff you want benchmarks on lemme know. I'm more than happy to run them tonight. Just don't ask me to overclock it because that is NOT happening lol -
I've had my Y410P for a few days now. Overall, a pretty solid machine... performs well while gaming, trans-coding, etc.
There are a couple of things that make me want to return it.
1) The "anti glare" screen has the same amount of glare as my mac book pro.
2) The bezeling around the screen actually has an incredible amount of glare. - this is by far my biggest complaint, it drives me nuts. One would think that product engineers are in a room with lights and would notice this. -
2. Optimus works, but you need to manually make some changes.
3. My GPU hit 90c during Furmark testing
4. Yes the RAM is GDDR5 on the internal 750m -
Added picture of glare for reference:

Post it on youtube along with a brief, 5-10 minute review. No one has submitted any reviews for it yet, so you'd be the first. -
-
Just chatted with lenovo, you can tell them to hell with the glossy mixed screen, and custom order fully matte screen. You need to call them though.
-
Just bought a single GPU, 1600x900 model with 24gb SSD.
Hope it's a good buy. Ill get it on the 19th. -
How do you enable optimus? If the IGP is availible, that must mean...
-
-
Will Nvidia be releasing updated Optimus drivers to allow for automatic switching? -
-
-
To anyone that has done a hard drive upgrade on this machine, how do you do a fresh install? Can I use a retail media disk? If not, what media do I use. Do I have to leave it on UEFI?
If someone can help I would appreciate it! -
I contacted customer service earlier today and was told that the tech spec page for the y400 was the one that is wrong. Is this true? The only thing holding me back from purchasing this laptop for school/gaming is the concern of portability. If it is 5.5 pounds, is that too heavy to carry around school?
-
Mine arrives tomorrow. So you can ask away.
-
Got mine earlier today, tinkering with it.
Aesthetics and design
It's plastic. But the way they go about incorporating the plastics is actually respectable. The lid itself has a soft texture that doesn't attract fingerprints, which is a plus. The palmrest and the other parts around the keyboard have a brushed metal which also don't track fingerprints. The hinges are bit thin IMO, but I'm sure it'll last.
Keyboard
The keyboard is ok. The keys create plunky noises on typing and provide enough tactile feedback.
Screen
The screen is glossy, which is a negative mark. I got the 1600x900 version and am reporting no dead pixels.
Touchpad
I'm going to be blunt. It's so-so. Two-finger scroll is a hit or miss. Accidental palm swipes leading to your cursor registering a tap or scroll are eliminated by the touchpad temporarily disabling itself with each stroke. Plugging in a mouse disables the touchpad.
I'm leaning toward returning it because I'm realizing I don't really need it that badly at the moment. Even if I did, the glossy screen and the so-so touchpad are potential deal-breakers. -
nice sounds like alot of pros. I might call the number see if I can get the true matte screen. But yeh the only thing holding me back thought is the weight and the screen. Its not much of a dealbreaker but its deff a big plus if its actually 4.8 pounds and matte screen.
zeth do you have a scale of some sorte to see how heavy it is? -
Bathroom scale seems to require a minimum weight which the notebook doesn't fulfill. Using some post office scales, the notebook seems to be just shy of 6lbs. -

Does the Y410p comes with an empty caddy so you can take out the DVD and instead install an empty caddy so that the computer will be lighter?

Just got my y410p, is anyone else noticing visible vertical lines (as if the pixels were too far apart)
-
So far ive had my lenovo y410p and my only complaint is the mouse track pad..which i can get over. Everything else is great.
I also have some questions about ultrabay
1. Do the parts only come from lenovo?
2. Are the y400 parts compatible?
3.Is there a standard size? -
ah i think ive got a bum screen, you can really see the pixels on it when displaying a blank white screen, as if between each line there is a grey line
-
-
Returned for full refund, no restocking fee.. took about 2hrs to get them to do it but its done
-
-
I am interested in putting a m.2 ssd in my new y410p as well. Can anyone point to where to purchase these drives? I cannot seem to find them anywhere.
-
Are the screens on the ones currently sold on the website matte?
-

Just got the laptop today. Everything seemed to be fine...until the wifi started flaking out.
I'm connected to my home wifi network (based on the network icon), but using a browser/chat application/steam is impossible.Disconnecting and re-connecting to the network fixes things, but only for about 5 minutes when I lose connectivity again.
Anyone else have this problem? Don't know if it is the machine, or some setting on Windows 8. -
I did not have this problem. I would call tech support.
-
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 -
Thanks. That seemed to be the problem here too. Conflict between McAfee and windows - can't understand why lenovo has to preinstall so much junk.
-
I'm planning to convert my y410p into a dual boot machine, with Win8 and Linux. In my previous machine, this wasn't so much of an issue as I'd installed Win7 on the initial primary partitions (one for System Reserved, and one partition for Win7), and Linux on an extended partition (swap, root and home drives).
With Win8 on this new laptop, the default partitioning has a weird setup (attached screenshot). Anyone know what's the best way to modify this partition setup before I install Linux? Are there any partitions I should absolutely not change, and are there any I can delete during resizing partitions?
Thanks.

I've tried installing Linux on my Windows 8 computer, but it's been quite a hassle with dealing with secure boot and the GPT formatting structure. I ended up just making a Linux VM. -
Mine arrived late last night and the conversion to Windows 7 has been nearly successful except for the GPUs. Initially I was able to get both the Intel HD graphics and the GT 750M running, but discovered that we cannot use the drivers from Intel's website as it causes the screen to continuously flicker and the cursor resets its position to the middle of the screen, indicating that the system is randomly switching between the IGP and the nVidia even though the system is sitting idle. We will need to stick with Lenovo's Intel drivers for the system to function correctly as it serves as a pass through device for the GT 750M.
The good news is though, it will switch to the nVidia when 3D load is applied. Attempting to install the nVidia drivers only does not work either, as it requires the Intel HD drivers installed in conjunction to use it. I immediately switch the HDD when it came in, so the original HDD and the factory software is perfectly intact, I will try to extract the drivers from it. -
So some people are getting matte screens and some glossy?
User eriscentro in the y510p forum posted the below link where you can put in serial number and see what specs your laptop is shipping with INCLUDING the screen! This way we can find out which screen is the glossy and which matte:
