Is the audio driver I'm looking for the onekey theater? Or is that just Lenovo bloatware? I'm also unsure where to find hotkey drivers. 1-3 will be easy, though. Then nothing else, besides Lenovo Power Management?

Use it. -
It's really snug, after failing to open it a few times i eventually just gave it a little extra force and it opened.Be cafeul though. Try removing the bottom panel one peg at a time, also once you have removed the bottom panel, replacing the HDD is pretty easy. Then all you have to do is replace the panel (be sure to push in all the pegs, not just around but those in the middle too) and firmly screw the panel back. -
I just purchased my Y410p from Lenovo last night! Hoping that it will be delivered some time next week! Woot! So excited to get rid of this stupid SL500!!
-
However, you could get lucky. -
I got lucky and got mine within a week.

-
well if recent shipping times are any indicator. I ordered my last Friday and it was in my hands by tuesday. I believe another user had <7 shipping time for his 410p. Which model did you get? -
For you owners out there, what do you have running on startup in the task manager?
-
-
Hopefully I can get mine quick!
Already looking at SSD upgrade for it.
240GB, 2.5-inch Solid State Drive, upgrades for Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p Laptop/Notebook, CT4416164 from Crucial.com
I suppose that one should fit!Anyone have any benchmarks run on the 410p with SSD drives? In addition, I've read that lots of people have said this comes with a lot of bloatware.
What do you recommend I uninstall on startup? And since this is my first time upgrading a laptop, forgive my noobness! Is the OS installed on the SSD that comes with the laptop? Or on the HD? ie. Would it be possible to just open up my laptop upon arrival and install the SSD before I even boot it up? Or what steps would I need to follow in order to make that transition happen.

I've been googling but I guess I haven't found an actual step-by-step breakdown or directions on how to do it.
Thanks in advance! I'm super excited! -

Hey Jobine702,
Figured since I've been reading up in this forum and seen you post a lot of times, you might know enough about the Y410p =D Although, anyone can answer this for me.
1) Since the majority of the issues I've read about came after downgrading to Windows 7, I'm likely going to give Windows 8 a try. Has anyone use "Classic Shell" and does it make Windows 8 display like a Windows 7 menu?
2) Since I plan on upgrading to SSD, I'm looking at this Computer memory upgrades for Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com one. According to the website, it's compatible but not sure if anyone can double-check that for me since I'm pretty new to this stuff.
3) Assuming that when my laptop arrives, there's a list of bloatware that I can install and drivers/things to update. Is there any forum thread or post that has a "suggested" programs to remove upon booting? And a list of updated drivers to make things run smoother (wireless, graphics, touchpad)?
And last but not least...
4) Does anyone have a detailed guide of how to install the SSD? I've never done it before so I'm not sure if Windows 8 comes installed on the HDD or on the 24GB SSD. If it comes on the SSD, can I just remove the HDD and put in the new SSD (from above) and then voila it works? Or do I have to install something? (TOTALLY LOST HERE! =P)
Thanks in advance for anyone's help!
A super grateful Alvin -
Those programs are:
Energy Management
Lenovo EasyCamera
NVIDIA Graphics Driver
NVIDIA PhysX System
NVIDIA Update
Onekey Theater
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
There are other programs that I uninstalled already that I can't remember, but those were just some Lenovo and Windows programs that I know I will never use. Should be easy to distinguish those. When it comes to updating, update all of them (at least I did). Except I deleted the Intel PROset Wireless card for wifi because APPARENTLY, the Microsoft one does better. I haven't noticed a problem with the Microsoft one so I'm happy.
I'm going to be switching out the original 1tb hdd for a Samsung 840 EVO 500gb ssd. It was just released and I got screwed on the shipping because so many people had ordered it that they ran out of product. So I am still waiting on that to arrive haha. Should be here in about a week or so hopefully
As far as installation goes, it's very straightforward once you actually get the cover off the bottom of the laptop. I might make an installation video once I get mine. -
2. The upgrade seems fine, crucial knows their stuff, alas i don't use crucial myself since i'm canadian, and i use CanadaRAM for most of my RAM upgrades. But, if the RAM doesnt work, just get a refund. Don't see why you would need 16GB of ram though, in fact, i can run on 3-4GB and never run into any ram shortages.
3. I haven't done this in 2 months, and my memory is a little rusty. You can safely remove Ebay, Intel AppUp, Lenovo UserGuide, Evernote, Adobe Reader, MS office Trial, Skype and the such. Yoiu can even remove Lenovo Onekey Theater if you want but it could hurt audio performance a little. Just try not to install some core Lenovo Applications (such as Energy Management) or drivers. Also, be sure to remove the Intel PROset drivers for WiFi (but not for bluetooth) when getting the laptop, as this will fix all issues caused by the wireless card (blame Intel). Be sure to Update the Nvidia GeForce drivers and the Intel HD4600 drivers to their latest versions to get the best Optimus performance and overall graphics performance. Updating Intel RST to it's lastest version will also fix some possible startup issues that some users experimented (luckily i didn't).
Also, the laptop comes shipped with a partition called LENOVO, which contains your backup drivers. Just back up these files to an external medium (2GB total file size), then you can delete the partition and gain 10-20GB of space.
4. Watch this video on how to replace the hard drive (with a standard 2.5inch SSD):
Lenovo Y400 Y500 Full Disassembly - YouTube
It's designed for the older Y400, but fits the Y410P perfectly since they have the same chassis
Oh, and if youre trying to install a Msata SSD, note that this will NOT WORK, as the Y410P uses a newer SSD form factor called M.2, which is actually faster, but way less mainstream.
But the OS is not installed on the 24GB SSD, the SSD is used purely for caching, which essentially copies your most used files for them to be loaded off the SSD for faster access.
That should cover the basics.
Cheers.
EDIT: Kirk ninja'd me.gerard187 likes this. -
But all the above definitely helps and I can't wait to get the laptop and start working on it!
-
Does anyone know of a specific laptop sleeve that I could get at futureshop, bestbuy, or tigerdirect in Canada that would fit the y410p. The 14 inch cases I've seen don't really fit the y410p according to measurement. I don't want to get an entirely separate bag to carry my laptop around in university. But I wanna be able to give it some decent protection when I put it in my backpack, which has a pocket for laptops.
-
Thanks for your help again! =) -
- 2.5 Inch, which generally go into the laptop's hard drive slot. The Y410P has one internal 2.5inch drive bay and can get a second one via a caddy in the ultrabay. 2.5 inch SSD's look like this:
- Msata, which is a smaller SSD, but is very mainstream. Msata drives fit a variety of laptops, but the Y410P lacks an Msata port (unlike the older Y400 which in fact does have Msata). To get an Msata drive into your Y410P, you would need a special caddy that allows Msata drives to fit inside 2.5inch bays. Msata drives look like this:
- M.2, which is faster than Msata, but oh so rare. The Y410P has one M.2 port. So far, no m.2 drive bigger than 128GB exists on the market. They look similar to Msata drives, but have a connector that is PCIe based for faster input/output:
Your crucial M500 is a 2.5 inch Sata III drive which would fit inside the Laptop's main bay or in the ultrabay via a caddy. -
My 14.1' Y410P and my sister's 15.6' CQ56 both fit into this sleeve. -
Thanks! You've been a great help! Yay for Canadians! -
-
Awesome! It's Sunday here in Canada but it's supposed to ship today. Really hoping that somehow it does. Will Lenovo rush it if I pay extra via phone call?
Hmmmm! -
-
I got mine at 7AM, i was still sleeping when the UPS guy hit my doorbell
-
i emailed lenovo and after 5 days they finally replied and told me that the keyboard is bilingual and that since the package is already in shipment they cant change the keyboard. what should i do if i really want a us keyboard? could i return it to lenovo and exchange it for a us keyboard after i receive it?
-
-
could you show me a picture of the bilingual keyboard on the y410 just to see how it looks like
-
-
Got the email saying it was shipped.
Yay! But the delivery date was extended to Friday....
-
I guess I got lucky with shipping for this laptop. I Ordered on the 8/21, shipped on 8/22 and is set for delivery end of day 8/26 (today) which is only 3 business days.

Hey guys, some noob questions here. Just got a y410p recently and was curious about a few things.
1) Which of the bloatware are safe to remove? I'd like to get rid of everything possible that is safe to remove.
2) Which things should I turn off that are 'default' on? This can be in any category or whatever. Prime example is the always-on USB thing. How do I turn that off? I don't need that.
3) I'm a bit confused about the Optimized Power thing and stuff. What's the best/safest way to use my laptop when I'm back in my dorm room at Uni, plugged in at my desk? Just take the whole battery out, or what?
4) My battery seems to be leaking 1% or more per hour when off. What could be the cause of this? I've seen other users in this thread reporting similar behavior. How can I counter and/or remedy this issue? I don't even know how to begin to troubleshoot this.
I'm such a noob with this laptop because this is my very first laptop. I've been a desktop user forever, but going to Uni and not bringing my desktop and being a gamer, this laptop seemed perfect for like 65% media/gaming in my room, 35% class stuff in my room and on battery in class itself.
I'd really appreciate some advice here. I probably forgot some more questions I had other than the aforementioned 4 since it's 5am, so if you have any other advice/tips in addition, I'd greatly appreciate hearing those too!
Thanks folks! -
2)Powered USB is off by default. So is VT-x
3)Drain/Charge the battery to 60%, then Optmised battery health, thus it wont charge over 60%, essentially minimizing battery wear
4) Mine drains 3% every 24 hours, so idk -
Anyone know what the exact color gamut, cdm black lvls, contrast ratio on the y410p 900p screen?
-
Constrast ratio is 600:1 and according to notebook check.
Black level is 0.65cd/m2 -
I'm looking at my order status and it says shipped with a tracking # via UPS SCS. Yet, when I go on the UPS website to track it, nothing shows.
-
Not sure how you guys have been so lucky to get your order shipped/delivered within a reasonable timeframe. I ordered the 900p (no SSD) model last Monday and had the shipping date pushed back already 2 times now (from the 23rd to the 26th and now the 29th). I need the laptop by the end of the month, so I'm debating just canceling my order since it says it won't be here until the 3rd of September. Do you think a call to customer support would help light a fire under them to get it to me sooner?
On another note, thanks for all of the information on this thread, been following it ever since I thought about buying the Y410p. -
If you change your mind and cancel, the HP ENVY 15t-j000 is an option, though it is 100$ more expensive when configured and only comes with a 740M.
To discuss the Envy, please head to the HP forums. Derailing is bad and you should feel bad. -
-
I just got off the phone with customer support, they said that the manufacturers are behind, so he said it could be 1-2 more weeks. I just find it very odd that some people who ordered after me have already received their product, maybe they just ordered a different model... I tried to cancel the order but the rep said that I will probably end up having to return it since the order already went through to the factory.
I'm thinking I should have just ordered the refurbished model since they wouldn't have this problem. Speaking of which, do you know any ways to get discounts on the lenovo outlet? I don't think they have anything like the B&N on the main site do they? -

cMy eyes are getting killed by the screen on this laptop. Adjusting the brightness down doesn't help either. Is this one of the glossy screen problems?
