Yep. You will need to roll back the drivers to 14.8 to get the best connectivity. Note that this applies only for Y410p with Intel 2230 Wifi.

Basically, like 0rion has said, uninstall the PROset drivers, although you do not need to uninstall PROset Bluetooth, only PROset Wifi. Once that is done, head to the Device Manager, find your card, and uninstall the remaining 15.6 or 15.8 drivers. Reboot the computer twice and you will be using 14.8 drivers, which have good connectivity.

Drivers you will need to update when recieving the computer are:
    - Trackpad drivers; you will need to install the lastest ones from the Synaptics site and optionally disable unused gestures like Rotation for a smoother experience
    - Graphic Drivers; Update both the drivers for the Intel 4600HD and the Nvidia 750M. You will get a little boost in gaming performance.
    - Intel RST drivers: Update these for a smoother startup

Also, if you want to overclock, download MSI afterburner, and i recommend doing a 39mhz core and 200mhz memory overclock. You will gain 5-10% more performance for only 2°C of extra heat. Be sure to always monitor your temps.

Finally, i just wanna round this up with a few BIOS tweaks. To open the bios, power off the laptop, press the button on the side and then enter the BIOS when prompted. Disable "Always ON USB" as this will drain your battery much quicker. Also, Intel VT (Vanderpool) is disabled by default, so you might wanna enable it if you need to use VBox or XP mode. Finally, you may disable secure boot if you need to boot livecd's like Gparted.

Also, you might notice that in My Computer, there is a drive called LENOVO. This drive contains backup drivers, but since the drivers are all on the Manufacturer's site, you can just delete this partition to reclaim 20GB of free space.

Cheers. PM me if you have any additional concerns.

Yes, it seems to be closely located to the processor. I think I saw the heatpipes going to the same directions :D. But again, 53 degrees for idle? Is it normal?

Mine runs at 32°C on idle/off and 83°C on max load. Though mine is slightly overclocked.

I'm uninstalling programs now, and there are a few iffy ones. I tried to find the post where this was mentioned earlier, but to no avail. So I'll just ask again. (sorry!)
    Should I remove:
    Lenovo EasyCamera
    Lenovo Experience Improvement
Lenovo OneKey Recovery (and if/when I do, how should I go about deleting the parition?)
    Lenovo PowerDVD 10
    Lenovo VeriFace
    Onekey Theater
    Power2Go
    Genesys USB Mass Storage Device

    Thanks in advance guys!

Thanks so much. I'll record my venture, and upload whatever I got. Hopefully, someone can learn from my attempt.
What I did first, and always, is backup an image of the pristine, untouched drive. Like, open laptop, immediately backup image. After that, I dban'd (wiped) the hard drive clean and installed a copy of Win 7. To date, I've only ever installed EasyCam and Experience Performance. Heck, I even skipped some of the drivers.

Sorry for double post, but I did it!
Not a single part was snapped!
I'll upload a video later for posterity.

But right now, I have a question. That silver foil covering up the HDD spot is only the warranty seal, right? Like, removing it will cause no other consequence besides voiding the warranty?

As far as I know, yes. But couldn't you hold on to that and just cover up your next installed HDD or SSD?

A dealer who's knowlegeable about this once told me that it's wise to just backup an image of the drive, untouched. That is to say, in its factory reset state. It helps a ton, in case the warranty is somehow voided by removing the partition. Should that be the case, an image restoration of the backup file will make the drive go back to its original, out-of-the-box state.

Also, yeah, I managed to remove the drive without removing the silver foil.

Actually, it seems to be glued over the screw slots. But you can remove the drive without ripping the foil if you remove it carefully.

The foil is over a metal box, in which the HDD is screwed in. You need to take off the 2 screws on the left, then remove the whole box, then remove the 4 screws on the box. Your HDD will slide right out. Then you can replace it with your SSD. No need to remove the foil at all.

Also, I woke up this morning and my battery drained by about 30% overnight while the laptop was off. Deep sleep S3 is activated, USB Always-on disabled. This is completely ridiculous, I will return this turd and get an ASUS.

No. I leave at 60% before going to bed, wake up, when i turn it on it's like 56-58%, assuming 1-2% was consumed in the actual boot up of the laptop, since during startup the laptop goes at full brightness and turns on all devices for a validity check etc.

    - Using latest Chipset and Intel RST drivers
    - Powered USB and VT-x are off.
    - I've owned the laptop for ~3 months now

But yea, my laptop used to have this big vampire drain but then one day it stopped, idk why. It still does drain though, maybe up to like 7-8% every 24 hours.

Thanks for your reply.Mainly I want this laptop to last at Least 3 years and my main concern is running AutoCAD(Civil 3D &revit) ,primavera, etc .
I would occasionally play Dota 2.
Most of NBR member recommend workstations but these are unaffordable for me here.
I can get a decent QUADRO K200M in States but here base models of W530 & M4700 cost >$2000

If you are looking for a CAD laptop you bought the wrong thing :(

Geforce 6xx/7xx cards are terrible at CAD, you should have went for something with an AMD GPU, since they didnt have their CUDA nerfed.

Do you own a desktop? The best solution for CAD at the moment if buying a Quadro K600 for ~150$ and putting it in your desktop.

It seems I don't have access to the PM option, probably because of my low post count.

Does msi afterburner have an in game temp viewer?

Also why would I need to use Vboc or XP mode and Gparted? I'm assuming if I have to ask that question then I'm not going to have use for them, but I'd like to learn as much as possible. I appreciate the well written response.

No but you can alt+tab to msi afterburner and check your temps, thats what i do.

Why would you need to use Xp mode or gparted? Idk, to format partitions and run legacy applications?

You're not concerned that alt-tabbing out might allow the temps to read a littler lower than what they would be in-game?

750M is overkill for playing games at low settings. The 750m can play most games on high, if not medium.

Also, for programming, avoid low density screens like 768p. You should at least get the 900p screen.

For your needs, the Y410p is a little overkill, however if you need the performance of a quadcore + something that can last a few years, then i think it could be the right choice. Just avoid the 768p screen since it has way duller colors and less screen room than the 900p one. Getting the 24GB SSD also helps, especially with speeding up your most used data.

What overclock speeds are you guys getting? I wanna make sure that I'm not pushing it too much... however unlikely that may be. Which program is it that makes the battery only charge to 60%? Mine's not doing that any more and I think I may have uninstalled it. :c

    1. Im only overclocking my GPU. BIOS is locked so i couldnt OC my cpu if i wanted to. Anyways, im doing 39mhz core and 200mhz memory on mine. I'm getting a 5-10% performance boost, equalling a GT755M, and i only generate 2°C of extra heat.

    2. For the 60% charge, start by draining your laptop down to 60%, then open up Lenovo Energy Management, and set the energy mode to optimized battery health, then it should never charge past 60%.

    To answer your questions
    1. I am not sure. How much does it matter? If you plan on transporting it around a lot, you might wanna choose a laptop with better battery life.
    2. what are you trying to ask? The 768p is the same resolution across all of them, but the screen size and screen type (glossy, matte) could be different.
    3. IMO, I would go with the y410p, because it has a better card and more ram.

Throttling is where the computer makes the components run at lower speeds because it is running on battery power, to conserve battery.
I would estimate about 4 hours or whatever lenovo says. I'm not quite sure, because I only use it for gaming.

Okay, I finally found an overclock spot to stick with. I'm doing 50 mhz extra for core and 230 mhz extra for memory. Heat is still at a reasonable level when I do my benchmark, Heaven. Any comments? Warnings? Cautionary tales? All would be appreciated. Thanks!

    1. Probably equal, if not thinner than the G580.
    2. Avoid 768p screens. Period. Get the 900p one, it has much more vibrant colors.
    3. Lenovo is smaller, but lacks 1080p. However it has a better graphic card, and (opinion) better looks. Also, you can always upgrade Lenovo to SLI later on.

Benchmarks arent good (imho) for testing heat. Try gaming for an hour and just monitor your temps by alt-tabbing.

Run FurMark GPU stress test as well as Prime95 blend test at the same time. That should test how good the temps are and if CPU is throttled at full load.

Uh, if you plan on doing any CAD work on this laptop, you might wanna look elsewhere, Nvidia 6xx/7xx gpus are not made for CAD. You are better off finding a laptop with a Radeon or a workstation card.

There is not much documentation about the screen on the Y410p. It is a glossy panel, 900p, with decent color accuracy and good horizontal viewing angles. It is also very bright. However, it is a TN panel, and thus the vertical viewing angles are limited, and the bezel is thick on this laptop, so you feel like Lenovo could have fit a 15 inch screen without too many problems.

The first thing I noticed about the screen was the bezel, and it took me by surprise even with it being mentioned often in the forums. I got used to it vey quickly though. The viewing angles are okay, and the colors are decent. I would recommend getting a second monitor with this laptop, because of the size and properties of the screen.

MSI Afterburner/ EVGA Precision do indeed have an on screen display option. It's easy to setup but not the most obvious option in the GUI. See this here youtube video (not mine): Setup EVGA Precision X OSD - YouTube

    1. I'm not 100% positive that it is the same screen. These are only assumptions, using my knowledge of Lenovo and their practices.

    2. The Y410p is not a 1600$ laptop. With that said, even if it were to have the same display as the carbon, it would be acceptable in this range. Want a better screen? Grab yourself an ASUS N550JV, same specs as the Y Series, with an IPS FHD display oh wait, it retails for 1200$.
