I just found out the solution for my buzzing sound, by uninstalling realtek drivers....now the buzzing sound is completely gone =). Now using default windows 8 audio drivers, so far no issue.

Just wondering , does gaming on batteries with low FPS's normal ? Set high performance power plan already.

Geforce cards put themselves on lower power mode when youre on battery, so when on battery you are better off gaming using the Intel GFX.

I've noticed that when I move the cursor to the left edge of the screen, it disappears rather than stopping at the edge and then reappears when I move it back a little bit. It isn't going off the edge however, the pointer graphics entirely disappears when the leftmost pixel touches the left side of the screen. This isn't a huge issue but occasionally I lose my cursor and have to move it around a bit before I find it. Is this happening to anyone else?

@windowsmaclinux I bought Crucial CT2KIT102464BF160B ( Crucial Model CT2KIT102464BF160B Laptop Memory - Newegg.com) as that is what they had down at my local Micro Center and I didn't want to wait for shipping.

I would personally go for the anyhing that is 1.35v and a low CAS latency, so the kit I got or the Crucial Ballistix Sport BLS2K8G3N169ES4 ( Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model BLS2K8G3N169ES4). This would scratch that Corsair Vengance kit off my list.

    Another suggestion would be this G,SKILL kit with nice timings and good price: Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GRSL

Honestly any brand that doesn't get a ton of bad reviews saying it was DOA and includes a lifetime warranty is probably ok.

    Hey guys,

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing "popping" sounds in Linux (Ubuntu 13.04). The popping sound occurs during booting and every 60 secs. If I use headphone jack the problem disappears; however, without them the popping sound continues. It has something to do with the Ubuntu linux drivers energy saving for the sound card (pretty stupid, i know ). Anyways, after searching numerous Linux forums, i found quasi-solution, which did not work for me :(

If anyone has experienced something similar and found a solution, please let me know.

    p.s.
Let me just add that everything works well in Windows 8.

EDIT: Found the solution. Follow the link:

    http://www.geekyboy.com/archives/664

In some cases, you simply need to use this command:

Which installs the sound icon on the top right side of the screen.

I flashed my Y410P's BIOS with the modded version from the guide on techinferno. Program said it was successful. I reboot into BIOS, change a few power related options like S5 and some things that seemed harmless like graphics aperature size (from 256 to 512).

Laptop won't boot up now. Upon starting it, lights and fans go on, stays that way for somewhere around 20 seconds, then shuts down and restarts, endlessly. Nothing but a black screen the entire time.

Anyone have any idea how to reset the BIOS? I had a look through the techinferno thread and someone else had the same problem which they said they solved with something called "flashrom programmer", but I have no idea how to use that and he doesn't seem to type english as a first language. Instructions for accessing Y580 recovery were linked there, but it doesn't seem to work.

Anyone have any insight on how to access BIOS or reset BIOS to defaults?

Can help test if your Y410p have a high pitch tone when keyboard brightness is set to medium during boot and shut down ?

Hearing those sound before window shut down and boot is kinda annoying.....changing keyboard brightness before shut down and booting up is kinda unpractical.

    Thanks

EDIT: Yep, definately heard it, though it was not as loud as everyone pictured it to be.

Thx =), when the sound is heard , does changing it to other brightness make the sound disappear ?

How long the sound last when shutting down ?

( This is my 1st Lenovo laptop sorry for the wall of questions =X )

The sound lasts like 1-2 seconds, and oddly enough, if i put full backlight/no backlight i can't hear the sound. In fact, i've just noticed this now because i never use the medium brightness on the keyboard :p

Is there a way to switch on and off between the GT 750M vs the HD graphics?
I go to the NVIDIA setting and set the 3D option and physX option to GT 750M.
However, when I play with battery, it lags, like night and day compare to power.
When I game, how do I make sure that the game is running on GT 750M?
I'm playing payday 2 on high and so far, no lag, perfect FPS (didn't count but looks awesome).

    Thanks.

You probably are using the nvidia graphics but as Jobine said earlier,

To switch the graphics go to the Nvidia settings. Or right click and select ruin with dedicated graphics processor (I think that's what is says but I'm not sure).

Hmm guess not only mine have that sound......

I think it something to do with the drivers , the sound is also heard when Windows is '' Driverless'' and as soon as windows install the default audio drivers the sound disappears. With the default drivers the sound is not heard during shutdown or boot.

When realtek drivers are installed ( tried almost all version ) the sound can be heard during shutdown and boot.

But why it's only appearing on medium brightness boggles me.

Should I be worry of this ? hoping it's software related and not hardware related...Everytime I hear that sound I'm worried one day it will also be heard during normal window usage =X

    I have a question.

When using non-realtek drivers, is there a considerable loss of audio quality and nonfunctioning ports? Is there a downside to using non-realtek drivers?

I tried using windows drivers only....but the damm spdif red light will not turn off (even if I disabled it in the volume settings )+microphone abit more static.

That's why I returned to realtek drivers and the sound returns with it

Wondering if lenovo have any word on this ''high pitch tone'' lol

I have a bad feeling that it might not be as simple as bad BIOS settings, something might have gone wrong during the BIOS ROM flash even though it said it was successful and was able to reboot into BIOS the first time without issue.

I suppose it's not as simple as finding some kind of CMOS reset jumper or taking out the battery to clear saved BIOS settings, is it?

Yup, in the long run, use battery health option under lenovo energy management. It will not charge the battery when it reaches a certian %.

Can test something for me ? Shutdown the laptop with the keyboard brightness medium and see if there any high pitch tone coming from the top left speaker...( Want to survey about this tone if it appear on all Y410p or certain )

    Thx

medium keyboard brightness, u mean not off nor max right?
well I just tried it, my ear was almost on top of the left speaker, nothing is unusual.
there's only the sound of hard disk or the optical drive (the usual start up noise) I'm not sure which.

I can confirm that my laptop doesn't have this problem.

Hey guys just got back from a week long trip and came home with my RAM and with a Wireless-AC 7260. I remember some of you complaining about the clips on the bottom cover of the y410p? I found them quite easy to deal with using a small plastic wedge that I got with something else I bought (replacement Cooler Master QuickFire keyboard faceplate). I just wedged it between the bottom cover and the rest of the case and it easily unclipped the clips without breaking them. It's really not that hard to take apart and I'm not really sure how you could could break them unless you are just ripping the cover off via brute force.

Anyways, proudly running a y410p with 16GB of RAM and a Wireless-AC 7260 now so almost all tricked out. Now only if the damn GT750M SLI card would ever ship...

September was supposed to be the release date of the 750M Ultrabay and it has come and passed with nothing. I wouldn't hold your breath. Kukri told me that one of the companies involved with manufacturing the Ultrabays recently went out of business, so there will probably never be a 750M Ultrabay for sale.

Does anybody know any new information about the ultrabay graphics? Honestly this whole bait and switch advertising means this is the last time I buy a Lenovo product. I got the y410p in June, and have since been told through like 8 delays that now only the y510p model will get ultrabay graphics through a chat representative. I joined the chat again and got a different agent, and he told me the same thing. So that sucks. Is this true? Because if so, I have gathered sufficient evidence that the ultrabay graphics option will be available for this laptop specifically and I will be contacting my lawyer, because that is false advertisement.

If you actually go on their site, Lenovo doesnt actually advertise the dual graphics on the Y410p:
IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (US)

    Good luck suing them.

    Google Translate

You guys might wanna take a look at this. It actually seems legit. Note that this was translated from Chinese.

On the photo you can see it is a Y400, yet in the Device Manager it is a 750M. Folks, this just might be it.

I've shown pictures of the GT750M SLI ultrabay (part number GT750M4) for the y410p and made a comparison photo against the GT750M5 ultrabay card for the y510p. It exists as an option in China and people are selling it, but finding someone that will sell it to you outside of China is different story.

I bet if you were to get the GT750M5 and take a Dremel to the bezel faceplate and trim it, it would probably fit in the y410p. The PCB internally is the same, and I'm mostly sure the slot size is the same. The only difference between models is the bezel faceplate and part number sticker and fan grill style, and slightly different retention mechanism that could probably be stolen from the stock DVD drive.

It doesn't mention the Ultrabay anymore. In June when I purchased this, it did in fact mention the Ultrabay. The site also advertised SLI, secondary storage, and a fan as "coming soon". The SLI was a big reason I picked this laptop. If someone happened to have screenshots, they could prob make something happen. I happen to like this machine, so I'm not going to try to sue/force a refund.

For the fan you can use the Y400 fan (it's like 30$), for the storage just buy a 10$ aftermarket caddy.
