I knew lenovo was shady after the glossy screen stunt where they discretely changed the website so i decided to screenshot. I actually deleted the original pic but luckily i backup my files in different places

Anyone else having issues with the case coming apart (above the left speaker to the left of where the monitor hinge is)? I thought it might just be the screw not in fully, but the screw is stripped and I can't tighten it. It's a very minor issue atm though, so I'm going to wait to send it in as school has started.

I will swap the HDD for an SSD in the next few days. I recall that on this forum someone mentioned breaking some internal component (a peg?) while doing this procedure. I don't think I can read back 146 pages to track down that post so I'm hoping that somehow that person will magically appear and tell me more about the problem. Thanks :)

I all ready made a post about taking off the back cover so I will repost. The back cover is held on with the 8 screws in addition to clips.

So essentially, get something that is wedge-like and plastic, put it in between the case edges and gently work it around the perimeter until the bottom cover comes off.

Thanks mate but the link doesn't work.
You need to right click the file in the MEGA File Manager and click "Get Link".
Make sure you select "File link" + "File key". :)

For those who are looking for Benchmark Tools for your Laptop, here is the best ones I would suggest.

    Unzip to C:/Tools

I always run RealTemp + 2 Instances of GPUZ for each of the GPUs during the benchmarks (Prime95 + Furmark).

I'm getting 90C on full load, at this point there is very high chance of the solder points breaking - which isn't under warranty anyway.
Not to mention the performance impact it has... :)

I have a question about the ultrabay GPU on the y410p. If the GPU in my laptop is the GT 755m variant, will I still be able to take advantage of the ultrabay SLI capabilities when they become available (if they do).

Will the ultrabay GPU that I buy have to be a GT 755m or will the GT 750m work?

According to the specifications for 755M it's not compatible with SLI.

    LCD Replacement
Note that you must have the LCD driver present together with the panel itself because this is how the original Y410P design is.

    Option 1:
    SAMSUNG LTN140KT09-801 Overview - Panelook.com

    Anti-Glare
    6bit+FRC
    300 cd/m
    300 : 1 (Min.) (Transmissive)
    45/45/15/35 (Typ.)(CR≥10) (L/R/U/D)

    Option 2:
    LG Display LP140WD2-TLE1 Overview - Panelook.com

    Anti-Glare
    6bit
    250 cd/m
    400 : 1 (Min.) (Transmissive)
    70/70/60/60 (Typ.)(CR≥10) (L/R/U/D)

According to the specifications 750M isn't either. Oh wait.....

Also, it's kinda dissapointing to see the Y410P has less than 50% of the Y510p's contrast ratio :(

This was brought up before, and NVidia claims that the GT750M doesn't support SLI either. We do know that Lenovo is the only one that offers this configuration of GT750M in SLI. I would take the public Nvidia specification sheets with a grain of salt.

Moreover, found this on the Lenovo Outlit page. They have SKU's for GT750M and GT755M cards:

Also thanks for the information on LCD replacement. I was looking into it yesterday and found those same two panels you listed. I was really looking for an IPS panel, but couldn't find any. Do you think it would be possible to put in a 1080p screen like the one from the Alienware 14, or would the BIOS not support it?

I'm so tempted to buy one of those and just grabbing a saw and modding it to my chassis. SO tempted. Would be a nice DIY project.

As for the display i'm just waiting for a decent 14' QHD display to come out.

    Look what i found today, a Dual-Core SLI (i5-4200M) Y510p for under 1000$:

    XOTIC PC | LENOVO IdeaPad Y510p (59390909)

Wanna call Xotic and ask to see if you could order the SLI bay from them?

I know of that seller, they were the ones that also were selling the GT750M4 cards for y410p that I grabbed pictures from. I contacted a Taobao agent about buying the item for me but, unfortunately China is in shutdown mode due to the week-long National Day of the People's Republic of China and no one is working.

Yeah, you will have to basically buy a M5 one and then trim it to fit, EmberV posted a picture somewhere in this thread, too lazy to go back and find it :p

But hey, having the Equivalent of a GTX 770M in a 14 inch laptop with a 900p screen? Thats the equivalent of a GTX 780M in a 15 incher @ 1080p! Except the Y410p is actually portable (no offense to 780M laptop owners).

Yeah that's awesome, but 750M SLI at 900p is a bit overkill. I can run most games maxed out or close to maxed out at 900p with my overclocked 650M SLI setup.

It is overkill (considering my Single OC'd 750M has no trouble with any game @ 768p-900p), but future proof. I usually use my hardware for 4 years before i replace them. Still have 2 more years to go on my desktop, and it's still kicking with it's i3-550 @ 4.2ghz (outperforms Haswell i3) and GTX 560.

And also there isn't going to be an ultra bay GPU for the y410p?

This is all speculation and has not been tested but do the modification at your own risk. You should be able to figure out what is required to be changed by comparing the two photos I posted a couple posts pack.

Yes, there is supposedly going to be an official ultrabay for the y410p and is out in China, but no one knows what Lenovo USA is doing. So the only options are a potential mod to the y510p's ultrabay or import one from China.

The problem with Taobao is that they will only ship to other people in China. So you will need someone who lives in China to forward it to you, or use a Taobao Agent service which will charge a fee (10% seems to be the average to cover PayPal and their own profits).
Yes, they were from the Taobao seller htsdream that has been the one selling both GT750M4 and GT750M5 cards.

I will just wait until the GT 755m Ultra bay for the y410p comes to America or I might end up importing one for China.
I am just happy to know that there are GT 755m ultra bay models and that there aren't just for the GT 750m.

Hmmm. I'll consider it. Paid 900$ for my Y410p with tax. That brings it up to 1220$

Then i'll probably need to get the 170W adapter, so that's another 40-50$.

    @Y510p owners

How well do the SLI graphics run on the 120W power brick?

You will NEED the 170W power adapter at least. Without it, SLI will drain your battery. I am pretty sure from reading the description from htsdream that the 170W power adapter is included in his listing.

Also, you could just buy a Dell/Alienware 240W (model PA-9E, search eBay) for ~$30 and buy this adapter: X75 Power Connector - 7.4 x 5.08mm Female Jack to 5.5 x 2.5mm Male Plug I have this combination and it works fine and will provide more juice for your computer to sip on while using SLI.

Looks sic! I'll think about it. Still kinda dissapointing since Lenovo used to charge 230$ (+tax, = 280$) for the adapter+bay back when the y400 was in service.

How bout you? Will you be getting the M4 from TaoBao next week?

and if it is do they carry a GT 755m Ultrbay for the y410p cause I would pay for it (cause I know someone in China would ship it to me.

With a 750 yes, not with a 755. Your only option (so far) is to get a 755 M5 from Lenovo and mod it.

Kind of a shame since 755 is just OC'd 750.

time to play the waiting game then for the 755m cause I really don't want to modify it, I don't trust myself. I don't really need a 2nd card right now because the bf4 beta runs great on this laptop got a stable 50-60FPS on a mix of mid and high. I am very impressed with it.

You won't get an answer, because all Y510p SLI owners have the 170 W charger since the GT 750M/755M Ultrabay was never for sale separately. I will tell you that just doing the math, the 120 W brick is not enough to power 47 W CPU + 2 x 45 W GPU. Y500 750M SLI owners have even reported the 170 W adapter not being enough when running the i7-3630QM past TDP (e.g. Prime95) with overvolted 750M SLI, and the battery started draining while plugged in as a result. I was playing the BF4 beta yesterday with my Y500 battery halfway-charged and noticed after finishing that the battery almost did not charge at all while playing. BF4 pushes my CPU+GPU combination harder than any game I've seen so far and according to HWiNFO64 my CPU was already consuming 45 W by itself. GPU was overclocked to 1120/2250 at stock voltage. I can only assume that the 650M SLI was consuming over 100 W, plus the 45 W CPU and some PSU inefficiency puts total power draw very close to 170 W.

The Lenovo 170 W charger is overpriced and others have reported success buying an Alienware charger of sufficient wattage (180 W or 240 W) and converter cable for less money.

but I was surprised how well this one card ran the game. I was not expecting the FPS at the settings I had it on, but the random FPS drops are annoying. But the reason why I want the 2nd 755m card is because I like to know that my laptop will be good enough to run games for at least the next 4 years.

755M SLI plus 768p is even harder overkill. For a game like BF4 you might even run into a CPU bottleneck if you don't bump up the resolution.

I would bump up the res if I got the card but right now I have no need for it as BF4 and any other game I would want to play now such as PS2 run perfectly fine with just one card. But latter one the 2nd card might be necessary.
