I am getting a sound crackling when the Y410P is rendering stuff (with the 750 I assume) - windows beeps, music, etc. Any idea how to fix this?
Unplugging the powersupply seems like the only working fix atm, is there a better solution?
-
Since no one else answered, the NVIDIA GT750m in the Y410p is a Compute Capability 3.0 card, but that was to be expected. I'll be returning mine for various reasons (red keyboard backlight is ghastly, glossy screen reflects a good amount, being some of them)
-
What does that mean, compute capability 3.0 card.
-
It's not relevant to most people, refers to CUDA -- NVIDIA's framework to write parallel processing programs. CUDA Compute Capability 3.5 offers some features that (so far) only GK110 (GTX Titan) and GK208-based GT 730M, GT 735M, and GT740M do, such as Dynamic Parallelism. Hey guys I am new here with a 410p and I was wondering how to get my hands on an ultrabay gpu to add a 750m in sli. I have been scouring forums, websites, and customer service and nobody will give ma straight answer. It says it right on the website??
Joe -
From what I heard, Lenovo took it off their website due to some error in part number ( Lenovo y500 GT 750m Ultrabay - Lenovo Community). However I did find that the GT750M Ultrabay on their website so you can add it to your cart but I don't know if it'll go through.
Here's the link: Search Results -
Has any one or point me to somewhere for some benchmarks for this specific machine. I'm looking for a futuremark vantage score really. I want to contrast it to my current machine.
-
No Joy - contacted live support chat and they said this is not compatible with y410p and it is also not gt 750m but 650 instead regardless what it is currently advertised.
so when is 750 coming for y410p? = by this month but no date promised. -
I received mine yesterday and I'm thinking about returning it:
My reasons:
1. Glossy screen and yes it looks washed out, not grainy, but the colors look faded. I went into the Intel program and increased the Hue and it helped a bit, but still doesn't look right.
2. The build quality. The bezel on part of my screen is bent out a little. I can probably put some double sided tape to hold it on, but I shouldn't have to do that if I just paid 900+ for this thing.
3. GPU temp goes up to 75, 80. It's not that high, but I am concerned that it will overheat and kill the GPU later. Mainly because I did not hear the fans ramp up when the GPU increased in temperature. Does anyone know if the GPU is replaceable on this or is it part of the mainboard?
4. I can't get over the huge edge around the LCD. It makes me think it should be a 15 in there and they got their y510p and put a 14 inch screen in it. -
I would definitely return it solely on the first two points. You bought a new computer with flaws that you shouldn't have to deal with.
-
Yeah I'm thinking of doing that.
-
I'm going with replacement + discount and see what the replacement looks like. If the colors are still washed out and faded on the new one then I'll probably be returning it.
I think the colors may be correctable with an intel driver update, but I'm not sure. When I played with the color settings it did get better so I'm assuming that Intel can do something with their driver to fix the problem. -
Also going back the to discussion of the Screen finish of the laptop, Lenovo has just recently changed their product description of the Y410p's screen from "Anti-Glare" to "Glossy"
-
I'm tempted to take off the bezel, but I've never really done it outside of desktop monitors so I'm a bit nervous. Whats the minimum you have to remove to get at the screen?
-------------------------
On another note, the 2 replacement laptops, which the customer service rep assured me came with matte screens, should arrive tomorrow. Based on the update to the Lenovo website, I assume that they will come with glossy screens. Sigh. I'll update after I unbox them tomorrow.
Provided they are coming with glossy screens, I'll have to decide if I want to bite the bullet and keep it, which at $750, it may be worth it. Alternatively, if its easy to get at the display panel perhaps I will replace it. -
Unless Lenovo changed the bezel design from the Y400, there is a screw on the left and right bottom corner of the bezel, you will need to tilt the screen as far as it can go to reach the screws. Once those screws are taken out, you will need to get some surgical gloves to prevent scratching the screen and pry at the bezel firmly and slowly starting at one corner and working your way around the bezel, and it will pop off.

Hi, anyone got this inverted function keys problem in Y410p/Y510p?
Problem descriptions:

Hello everyone, new here but I've been lurking this thread. I just bought a y410p last week and it should arrive tomorrow.
I was wondering a couple of things though.
Someone apparently posted that nVidia Optimus will work on this laptop but requires some further configuration, can someone expand on this? Mainly what is required to get it working, or if it's not possible is it still possible to manually switch between the iGPU and dGPU. Ideally I would like to use this laptop for school and be able to last the day without having to recharge in the middle, using the iGPU would help accomplish that.
I would also like to do some upgrades to the hardware, one thing is the wlan card, is it locked down in the bios so you can't change that?
If I understand correctly, it ships with a DVD drive in UltraBay form. Anyone have experience with possibly replacing the DVD drive with a Bluray drive? I'm hoping the UltraBay just houses a standard slim drive. -
This might be useful for taking apart the laptop. I found it on the Y400 owners lounge.
I just followed these steps when I changed the HDD to SSD and installed a fresh copy of Win 8.

If you want to install a SSD on your Y410P with a fresh copy of Windows 8.
I followed these steps from the Y500 Owners Lounge. Thread #666
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...0-owners-questions-thread-67.html#post9175184
I just installed the drivers that came with the notebook in the HDD (drive D on mine).
The existing 1TB is now attached on an ultrabay adapter. I was able to attach the existing DVD cover on the ultrabay. The optical drive will now be cased in an enclosure with USB connection.
I also calibrated my monitor using DispCal GUI with Argyll software and the Optix XR colorimeter.
My 768p resolution monitor has about 40% of Adobe RGB and 60% sRGB. Im also using an external monitor so I was not bothered with just 768p resolution. I have the icc prifile in case anyone is interested.
So far everything is working well.poom_laupat likes this. -
The system was automatically switching between the integrated and dedicated graphics for me out of the box, but you can right-click on an application's shortcut and choose which one to use, although there doesn't appear to be any way to force one to run continuously.
If someone hasn't confirm it yet, I have an older Intel 3945ABG card I can stick in it and confirm for you in a few days.
Correct, the current Y410p offerings have an optical drive occupying the Ultrabay slot.
You certainly can put in a Blu Ray drive, the one that comes in the $1399 MSRP Y410p configuration is a Panasonic unit (UJ262). You can actually order this part minus the bezel for $98 from Lenovo (Part number 25209259). -
What ultra bay adapter are you using for your HDD?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
I bought it from flea bay for about 12 bucks.
New 9 5mm 2nd SSD HDD Hard Drive Optical Bay Caddy Adapter for Lenovo Y400 Y500 | eBay
I just searched optical caddie for y400.
Here is a guide I found:
Y500/Y400 Aftermarket HDD Caddy
However, in the instructions, he did not remove the adapters black cover. He left it as is(looks ugly). You can actually take it off and replace it with the original cover that came with the dvd drive and look like an oiginal. -
for the fan issue got to the change the power plan settings and click on change advance power plan settings, expand processor power management, system cooling policy and change it to active
-
Anyone have this? Think trying a newer or higher W PSU will help?
-
Thanks for the info! I'd appreciate it if you could try the wlan card for me.
I've already got a bluray drive in an external enclosure, I'm just hoping it doesn't cause any problems. -
Y400 ultra bay accessories are compatible with the y410p?
Or are most 9.5mm accessories compatible? This is my first laptop with ultrabay.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
I guess most 9.5mm bays will be compatible as well as probably a blueray drive.
This is also my first machine with ultrabay. I just took a risk and it worked. Not bad for $12.
-
Thanks for the info

I was just looking at the site and if you click on the Tech Specs tab, the screens are still listed as Anti-Glare

So has anybody noticed black flashing or flickering when playing intense games? It is extremely annoying, but so far nobody has been able to solve it! See my thread here if you are experiencing it or have an answer: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/722071-y410p-black-screen-flash-flicker.html
Thanks -
What driver are you using? If it is the Nvidia one, then yes, experience some flickers, try using the 740m driver from nividia instead.
-
Can you post the icc profile? Thanks
-
I'm receiving my Y410p soon, and want to wipe it and install Windows 7. Should I just put in the Windows 7 install disk and delete all partitions, and just start fresh with Windows 7? Will deleting all Win 8 partitions cause issues with the boot record? What do you all recommend?
Thanks! -
i might just get an asus g46vw. so much problem with the lenovo y410 smh.
-
I'm not having any problems other than the screen not being anti glare which I don't consider really a problem...

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I just tried the 740m 320.18, and it did not allow me to install it. Following some other thread, I copied the Display.driver from a usable installer to the 740m driver. This worked, but when I checked my driver after the install it read 311.27!
Please enlighten me on how to properly install the 740m drivers thanks!

Idk. Im getting my y410p this week lol. Havent gotten it yet. Just rumors i heard :b

So the replacement Y410p has been stuck in Order Processing for the last three days. I established an online chat with Lenovo support and for an hour, they could not figure out why the order is stuck in the same status or even if the replacement is being built. I went ahead and had them cancel the replacement and process a return for the original machine. I'm so done with Lenovo.
-
I'm probably done with them too. My two replacements (for which they forced me to place orders for) are coming today. If they have glossy screens, after they insisted they were matte, they are being returned. I will certainly not purchase anything consumer grade from them again.
-
Hey guys, just pulled the trigger on mine two days ago. Checked the status of the order this morning and noticed my estimated shipping date, which was supposed to be tomorrow when i placed the order, is now July 29. I think they just went on backorder..... I talked to Tamika and she said her backlog system was down and she would have to contact me by email. I really hope i don't have to wait a month for this thing....

Chat Transcript
Kanisha B: Thank you for contacting Lenovo; My name is Kanisha. One moment please while I review your previous chat.
Tom: Alright
Kanisha B: Ok Tom I'd be happy to take a look at the order for you.
Kanisha B: May I have the order number?
Tom: Order **********
Kanisha B: Alright just a moment To,
Kanisha B: Tom
Kanisha B: Ok Tom it looks as if we are currently awaiting supply for the order, thus the delay in the shipment. I would like to inform you that these dates are merely estimates and are subject to change meaning this item could ship sooner than the date provided.
Tom: Ship sooner such as the 10th of July? I would not be as upset if it was shipped on the 10th rather than the 29th. I was unaware i would be waiting so long when i made the purchase, my estimated shipping time was 6/20/13. So you can see why I am concerned.
Kanisha B: Yes sir I can definately understand how this is dissappointing and very frustrating. I am unable to give an exact date on when the order ships however. I do apologize about any inconvience this has caused
Tom: Alright, I guess there is nothing i can do about this at the moment. Just for reference, what is your order cancellation policy?
Kanisha B: You can cancel the order at any time up until the day it ships.
Tom: Sounds Good. That's all I have.
Kanisha B: Thank you for choosing Lenovo chat services, have a great day! -

Here you go. I hope it got attached.
I profiled it at White Point = 6500
white level = 120 cd/m2
Black level = as measured
Gamma = 2.2
Screen birghtness at about 80% This refers to just the regular screen brightness control. Don't use 100%. its going to be too bright. 80-85% is ideal for both photos and movies.
I have the 768p resolution monitor if that helps
Thanks. -
Mine arrived today. I opted for the model with the 900p screen and the caching SSD. The screen is alright, def not matte at all. However so far, the battery life is pretty bad (hoping a few battery cycles help) and the trackpad is horrendous. Multi-touch is completely nonexistent. I've tried updating the drivers from Lenovo's site, but no do. No two-finger scrolling, no 3 finger swipes for forward and back, and pinch-to-zoom is an unpredictable crap shoot. Any ideas on that front guys?
Edit: I've also upgraded the wifi and HD4600 drivers using Intel's Driver Update Utility. I'm having 0 connectivity issues. nVidia Experience reports the GT750M drivers as being up to date. -

I got mine week and find that it's a decent laptop with just a few downfalls.
Battery life is decent (3~4 hours), but that is expected from a laptop of this caliber. Graphics card gets throttled as well when the laptop is not plugged in. The screen isn't matte, but I decided to deal with it since it's not that that big of a deal for me. The trackpad was horrendous when I first used it. Uninstalling the driver that came with the laptop, installing the stock drivers from Synaptics, and tweaking some settings made it much more usable. The laptop does get kind of warm when doing more intensive tasks, but cools down quickly afterwards.
The thing I'm having problems with is finding a driver update (since the ones that came are outdated) for the graphics card. Installing the 740m drivers from nvidia shows an error about incompatibility. If anyone has successfully installed these drivers, I'd be nice if you told us how you did it.

Is there any word on when the m.2 NGFF will come out?? I just got my y410p and as I thought, I do not like Windows 8 at all. So I want to install windows 7 on this new m.2 NGFF so that booting will be faster and keep the 1TB for files and stuff.
Also, just to add on to the forum, my screen is also very glossy and I noticed that the Lenovo website changed the Models' description to glossy but on the tech specs they still list the screens as Anti-Glare. Doesn't bother me much though, so I don't think I'll return it or exchange it.
Going back to installing windows 7...how do I create a recovery disk for windows 8 and should I make a copy for all the drivers that are in the smaller partition? how would I go about doing that? Do I copy and paste into a USB flash drive?
Can't wait to see if your replacement laptops are matte or glossy! -
I really don't understand why the glossy screen is such a big deal when you can just get a matte screen protector. They are probably under a dollar on ebay.
-
I followed the instructions here: Lenovo Y400 / Y500 - unlocked BIOS / wlan whitelist mod - Page 48
The 740m drivers seem fine, but I STILL get a flickering black screen from playing around 10 minutes worth of BF3 or Bioshock Infinite. Can you (or SOMEBODY!) please confirm that this is a major problem? I have found no fix yet! -
berrykerry789 Notebook Consultant
I personally haven't gotten any black screen flickering while playing games. However the gpu has crashed on me while doing a solidworks benchmark while probably means that it's being strained too much. Try turning down the settings and see if that helps.
-
Same here that hasn't happened on any of the games I have played I will try out the benchmark and post results
