Make sure you aren't using Intel GPU when overclocking. For this reason, if you plan on OC'ing the GPU, you will have to disable optimus in the 3D settings.

Hi, I just got my y410p, 900p without 24SSD.
I'm checking and it has m.2 port yeah
I have a question, what ssd would give better performance? A ssd or a m.2 ssd... Specifically a samsung 840 Evo or a mydigitalssd 42mm?
What do you recommend me? -
-
MyDigitalSSD Company Representative
So if you put all of those factors together I think the answer would be that the M.2 choice is far superior in a majority of the cases. -
Well that sounds a little biased, doesn't it?
But i agree with your points, not to mention upgrading to a M.2 SSD allows you to keep that optical drive for the occasional old school game or if (god bless) you happen to upgrade to SLI. -

So... Can this laptop survive a fall? I mean, I was just lifting it up diagonally(from the front, to check the back fan), this was on my desk. The front part,(the back was already touchiing the desk) fell like 12 cm, is this ok? The laptop was off at the time, like shut down. Sorry if it looks like I'm overreacting... But I'm worried. I haven't turned it on after that because I had to go to school. Will everything be ok? Have any of your y410p's taken a fall greater or similar to mine?

So I've had this laptop since august and I'm wondering about two things:
1) It makes some weird grinding sounds every now and then, does this happen to anyone else? And does anyone know how to fix it? Its not too loud, but when in a quiet room it can be annoying while studying.
2) How can increase my battery life?
3) Why doesn't my cache ever have anything on it? :S It's been 24.9/24.9 ever since I got it. CCleaner wouldn't play a role right? -
2) Larger battery/Energy Saving software tips/CPU Mods
3) open CMD as admin, then type "eccmd.exe -info". Write your output here. -
Does anyone have a screenshot of the y410p model 59399853 in the Lenovo Shopping cart? I made my purchase for this model on Black Friday. From that day up until recently today, this model displayed the battery type as identical to all the other models, "6 Cell Lithium-Ion". Today, Lenovo decided that they'd like to be more descriptive with their battery descriptions. It is now listed as "6 Cell 62 Watt Hour Lithium-Ion". All other y410p models are now listed with the battery type, "6 Cell 72 Watt Hour Lithium-Ion".
I feel like Lenovo falsely advertised the battery types to be identical. Since they changed the description, I tried contacting a Lenovo representative. They said that they cannot help me because the battery type is clearly described as "6 cell 62 Watt Hour Lithium-Ion" in the shopping cart. This is true as of now, but was not true at the time of my purchase. I am trying to contact Lenovo about this issue, but need a screen shot of the model in the shopping cart. I have a screenshot of the description from the model page, but not the shopping cart. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help. -
This however is really good news, if i can squeeze 4 hours out of my 48w/h that came with my laptop, 6 hours battery life would not be impossible on a 72w/h. -

Any owners of 72w/h batteries can post pictures of the battery's label so i can confirm that this laptop can now get 6 hours?
Damn, this laptop offers a lot for 750$. -
Well then spank my *** and call me the captain (youtube reference), we have improved battery life!
One less reason not to buy this! -
Sh*t. First problem :/
someone that happens when you turn on the keyboard light, after 5 seconds it shut down ?? -

I have a question about temperatures..... The max I've ever reached while gaming(FEAR3, Skyrim) is 82C°(CPU) and 72C°(GPU).... Are these good? And would a cooling pad really help this laptop? Because I am going to be playing more demanding games, The Witcher 2, Max Payne 3.... When it hits What temperature should I start worrying?
-
TheTrickyWitcher
When CPU hits 95 or GPU hits 89 degrees. Usually you see signs of throttling at that point. -
TheTrickyWitcher Notebook Enthusiast
Ok thanks! Will a cooling pad help maintain the temperature while playing demanding games.

So I should only worry when it hits what cbautis12 said? And would it help get a cooling pad?

Do you guys know if this is WiDi capable?
specifically IdeaPad Y410p Laptop - 59392484
CPU - 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
Network Card - Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230
Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GT755M GDDR5 2GB
and is it possible to turn off graphics card and use integrated graphics? (which I think is another requirement for WiDi?) -
TheTrickyWitcher Notebook Enthusiast
It is WIDI compatible, and you can select which programs use which GPU in the Nvidia Control Panel. It has Optimus so when you use graphic intensive programs it will automatically switch, or you could select yourself.

anyone know anything about the laptop shut off when the keyboard backlight is on?

Fn+F2 to toggle the display, btw. -
Date of purchase: 16 nov
It was too good to be true
Edit: someone who has recently purchased this laptop can tell me if you have the same problem? -
-
Any other good gaming laptop? -
I didnt say sell, i just said get a replacement model, you can do that even if the 30 day return period is over.
Also did this just start happening now or did it used to work fine when you got the laptop? -
When I received it, I don't use the keyboard backlight, first install updates, 8.1, app, etc
So I don't know if w8.1 cause that
But I go into the bios and still happens, I don't think the driver is the problem -
It is not a driver problem, because the backlit keyboard is not controllable by the OS. Only the bios can control the backlit keyboard.
So either a circuit has gone bad or there is something defective in the BIOS. I'd try flashing svl7's custom bios and see if it fixes the problem, it it fails just reflash the stock bios and resend the laptop. -
Flash the bios doesn't void the warranty? -
It does maybe but you can reflash the stock one before you re send it. -
I will try to flash this

Started to have a problem with mine finally. Certain frequencies of sound are now making crackly sounds out of the right speaker (noticed most when I'm listening to piano pieces). Nothing horrible considering I use headphones a lot, just annoying at times, and I definitely plan to get this fixed later towards the end of my warranty.

Thanks,
Quick question about SSD,
1) If I get a SATA3 SSD will it perform to speeds of SATA3?
2) If I connect the SSD to the caddy vs the internal bay (where the HDD is by default), which will be faster or will they be the same?
I hear of a 24GB SSD Cache for the Y410p models,
3) What exactly is that, is it a physical SSD, maybe I misunderstood the context when it was mentioned with cache?
4) Is it standard on all Y410p models? -
1) yes
2) same, but you cant boot off of it directly
3) yes, it is a physical M.2 NGFF 24GB SSD by Lite-on
4) no. -
I found out that for me, turning these off removes any audio crackling. -
Hi all, I've been lurking this thread for a while ever since I was looking for a new computer and I fell in love with the y410p's specs and price point.
I got the computer almost exactly a month ago, and things have been going well and I've been very happy, until a week ago...
Well, from the very start after I installed 8.1 and new drivers, I've been having troubles with the trackpad. Mainly, two-finger will stop working for no reason. This frustrates me to no end and I can't even get it back after resetting my touchpad settings to default, I have to restart the laptop. Also, I noticed from the first week that the build quality wasn't the best. The bottom fan grill doesn't sit flush with the bottom of the chassis and it's pretty annoying. I've been treating the laptop very well, however, but I do carry it around quite a bit.
A week ago, a random line just popped up across the screen. It wasn't a driver/software problem, as confirmed by tech support because the line appears whenever the display is on (ie on splash screen, in the bios) and it appears to be a problem with the screen connector. I called tech support, they paid for shipping to their depot. I was busy so I didn't immediately ship it back so I waited a few days. A few days later another problem popped up with the hinge. The laptop won't stay closed when I store the laptop vertically.Right after that I called tech support again, spent half an hour this time detailing every single little issue with the build quality and updated them with new details about my hinge. I sent it in right after and now I don't have my laptop to study for with final exams (I'd rather have it repaired before winter break). I'm a bit frustrated, but as long as Lenovo repairs everything and doesn't try to pull any "accidental" bs (because I KNOW that isn't the case with the way I've been treating this laptop) I'll forgive them. But since this laptop seems to have so many build issues, I'm contemplating purchasing the extended warranty with accidental protection.
Right now I'm just wondering if any of you guys have faced similar problems to the ones I've described above? Thanks.
Oh, and I also received a larger battery. I was really surprised when my laptop gave me decent battery life compared to the reviews I've seen on here. Thanks! :hi2: -
3) Where is the SSD located if it came with the laptop? -
What volume do you guys put for gaming? I usually have to out it at 100 to get to a good level. Even if I am using headphones, the volume is still low.
-
That being said, I've never had anything physically break on me, but I have had an entire system brick (fail). I've had a somewhat storied history with the Y500, having gone through two replacement units (three in total) before finding a keeper. My first unit had a bunch of stuck pixels and a defective clickpad sensor right out of the box and was returned immediately. The second one lasted a few weeks before it started black screening so it went back too (this was my "brick"). The third unit's been flawless for over 6 months now, keeping my fingers crossed that this continues.
My biggest gripes about build quality have to do with the touchpad and the construction. The one-piece clickpad design on this machine is pretty awful. Pressing down on either button depresses that side into the laptop by several centimeters. The entire touchpad vibrates when I double-finger tap it. As far as construction goes, there are some pretty noticeable gaps between panels. For me, the widest ones are at the edges of the palm rest and lid. The fit was nice and tight on my first unit, the gaps were huge on my second one, and the one I'm using now falls in the middle. So not only is the build quality middling, it's inconsistent.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my Y500 despite the niggling but not deal-breaking issues. It runs games like a champ and it was the best performing notebook for the price at the time of purchase. I bought mine a while back and the series has had two interations since then, but it's still by far the best budget gaming notebook you'll find in the sub-$1000 range.0144a likes this. -
I've got master volume in all my games set to max. When I game with headphones, I set Windows volume to 100% and the inline volume dial on my cans to about 25% along with Dolby turned on. With speakers, I've got Dolby turned off because it causes noise and distortion, and as a result I have to compensate by turning up Windows volume to around 75%. -
-
The build quality on mine is pretty solid. I have zero keyboard flex, no large or inconsistent gaps, all my vents sit flush, my speakers don't crackle, the screen doesn't creek when opening or closing, etc. I have an earlier model that was purchased in June. Perhaps that's why? Lenovo likely ramped up production after the Slick Deals effect set in.
also, with Dolby Theater ON and set to Game mode, games sounds pretty decent!
The 24GB cache SSD is a seperate physical drive, and should not be confused with the 24.xGB "Lenovo D:" partition. By default that's where your recovery lives, so DON'T OVERWRITE it thinking it's a speedy SSD cache! Open up device manager and under "Disk drives" you may have a LITEONIT LSS-24L6G. That's the M.2 device. It IS upgradable, it was an option at time of purchase, and if you ordered you Y410p/Y510 WITHOUT the cache, it may not have the M.2 connector at all. You have to open up your computer and do an inspection to check. Of course if you have the drive, you have the connector (duh).Jobine likes this.
