Hi,
I'm new to this forum and also new to Lenovo.
Got my y410p 2 days back and got a HyperX3k 120GB.
My problem is that the laptop won't boot from the SSD after cloning.
Here is what I did:-
- partitioned the OS drive to about 100GB
- ran clonezilla and cloned that 100GB partition onto the HyperX3k
- shut down properly
- replaced the HDD with the new cloneD SSD-HyperX3k
- laptop refuses to boot and shows " exiting intel pxe rom check cable connection " - (I am guessing its not detecting my hard drive and is trying to start from the network)
- checked the BIOS and it shows the hyperX3k - Detected
--- BIOS boot order is :- HDD - ODD - Network
So, i tried this :-
---- Removed Hyperx3K and refitted the original HDD = boots to Win8 = working fine
---- Tried Hyperx3k as an external drive = works with all OS files in place
Please help me![]()

Switchable graphics??
This could be really useful for uni next year
Great, now im even more excited on getting it!
1 day left... :L -
I don't know if I used the right phrasing but what I meant was we have the Intel HD 4600 graphics and the nvidia geforce 750m and that we can switch between them.

Yup. I dont think optimus works, but at least you have the option of manually selecting which GPU you want to use, and i heard rumors that you can set certain apps to run on a certain GPU. Personally this is great, ive had wonky issues with optimus on other hardware, and im more into manual computing. The HD 4600 is great for battery life, and the 750m is good for gaming and high intensity applications.
Note that SLI models do NOT include integrated/switchable graphics, and will be more battery-hungry (although, when diving into the SLI, its obvious that you want a desktop replacement, not a portable machine).
I should be getting my y410p later today or tomorrow, ill post some pictures in the sticky thread if i can.
Also, the older y400/y500 models do not have any integrated GPUs whatsoever, they are disabled by the manufacturer. -

Hi , how are you
Pretty good.
Great, and how can I help you
I purchased a Lenovo Y410P laptop from you a while back for its dual graphics capabilities. I've since done some research and there seems to be some confusion about whether an ultrabay graphics solution will ever be released for he Y410P. Can you tell me if and when the ultrabay 750m graphics will be released for the Y400 series?
It will not be. Unfortunately that is only on the 15 in models
Are you sure? It says there will be dual graphics options on the features page and it has been there for over a month now.
Yes, I have recently been told by the product team that it will not support it. Can you send me the link you are referencing
IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (US)
thanks, let me check it out
I am sorry, this is a mistake that I am reporting right now
I'm positive it has been reported numerous times before as I have been reading posts in message boards about this for over a month since the Y400 had the same issue.
the Y400 could use sli
but the Y410 cannot
The Y400 with the 650m graphics was advertised with SLi. However no ultrabay cards were every release. The Y400 with the 750m graphics was also advertised the same and likewise no ultrabays were ever released. Now the Y410P is also advertised with ultrabay grapics and now you are telling me they will not be released. Do you see my problem here?
the Y400 card was released, it has just been sold through
and yes, I see the problem on the Y410 stating that since it is incorrect
I am very sorry about that, I just sent this link in to the product team
It has been submitted before. There are some very misleading practices Lenovo is participating in. Not only will I be returning my Y410P, but I will be sure to alert as many potential buyers about Lenovo's poor business practices.
I understand, I am very sorry you were misinformed
What do you need to process my return?
I will have to get you over to the post sales team.

I got my second Y410p, and as someone predicted, it's still a glossy screen. Just tagged it with a return label and dropping it off at UPS in a few minutes.
-
I just chatted with a rep and they said Ultrabay is available for the Y410p.
-
Any ideas on a 14" with 760M or 765M Nvidia graphics?
I'm done with Lenovo. Period. -
I dont want SLI on my y410p since im using it only for uni and light gaming... I need the CPU for compute tasks more than anything tbh.
-
Alienware 14. Its a little pricy, but mostly good reviews, depends how much you like Dell...
-
Believe it or not, I would buy a Lenovo again...so long as it's a Thinkpad. The customer support between their business and consumer line products are like night and day.
My original candidates was the MSI GE40, Alienware 14, and the Clevo W230ST. The MSI is starting to drop off my list due to lack of a backlit keyboard and reports of the palm rest areas getting too hot, the Alienware 14 with the GTX 765M is too close to the price of a Clevo/MSI system with a GTX 780M, so I'm really down to the W230ST at this point. It's a shame the Y410p's glossy screen looks so washed out, otherwise I would have overlooked it in favor of how quiet its fan is. -
Why not just get a Matte screen protector for the glossy screen? As for the colors, I find putting it in Picture mode seems to help a bit.

Yeah i was looking at the newer ones earlier today. I think the lowest with the 765m was 1799....I could also get the Razer Blade 128gb for that same price. Too much for me right now! -
Completely agree.
Yeah I was looking at the Sager/Clevo N8250P with the 780M...same price as teh Alienware 14 with 765m...I thought the MSI GE40 had the backlit keyboard...darn. Im going to look at the W230ST now -
Can we stop the derailing now?
Some of us are still looking forward to their y410ps :L -
Hey everyone!
I copied the Lenovo drivers off of the partition that came with the computer to an external hard drive, wiped Windows 8, install Windows 7, installed the drivers and boy is it nice to be back with Windows 7.
Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions in what to install to have on screen notifications for the Fn+Arrow Keys (volume up, screen brightness) functions. The functions themselves work and correctly change screen brightness and volume, but I'd like to have an on screen notification like what is seen in Windows 8 on this machine. Any ideas?
Thank you! -
Sorry. It is still a very good looking laptop and without the additional 750m it is still great. Just not good enough for what I was promised based on its advertisement.
-
Im not sure. This is yet another reason i prefer windows 8 over windows 7 :l
-
Why didnt you buy a y510p/y500?
Its only 1.5 inch larger. And you get full hd 1080p. With SLI. -
Micah, id recommend a thinkpad W series, if you dont mind having a Quadro over a GeForce.
-
When you wiped Windows 8 did you delete all partitions (EFI, OEM, recovery)? Or are any of those necessary? I want to wipe Windows 8 with no plans of ever re-installing it, and dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
Thanks! -
i have this y410p (x900 w/ 24gb ssd) and now im second guessing myself if this was the right purchase esp with all the problems that people are encountering. i dont play games but i intend to use it as a desktop replacement/daily driver with occasional but heavy video editing (sony vegas pro). my question is.. does it suit my needs and keep it or should i keep looking?
another question, will i gain noticeable difference (faster) in my video editing if i replace the hdd with an ssd? or is the 24gb m2 + the 1tb same speed as ssd? -
1. For video editing, a single 750m is fine. Hell, i have some old video cars from 2009 and they still run afterFX fine with 720p video. With a single 750m, you also have switchable graphics, so you can extend battery life. Remember you can also render videos on CPU
2. Pure SSD will ALWAYS destroy hybrid SSD+HDD. No excuses.
3. Most of the problems are windows 7 related, if you dont downgrade, you are FINE. -
I had to change several settings in the BIOS before it would even let me boot from disc. I changed secure boot to disabled, and boot order to legacy first, I believe.
Then I inserted my Windows 7 disc, pressed F12 at boot to choose to boot from disc.
When Windows asked me to manage the partitions, I manually deleted every single one, created a new one, and installed Windows 7 on that. I'm up and running, and installed all of the drivers from the Lenovo partition that I copied them from before I reinstalled.
I hope this helped! -
thanks for the reply. just need to learn how to best apply these switchable gfx cards and cpu rendering while im video editing. *im just learning how to use sony vegas pro.
-
I got the temps I posted a few pages ago in this thread down a bit. I was on the balanced power plan. Switching to high performance dropped CPU may temp to 81*c and GPU max temp to 75*c. That's better than the 83* the GPU reported once!
Make no mistake mundane24, this is a potent notebook, but if you want the best performance for getting work done, then you want one of the i7's with the HD5200 Iris Pro graphics. The latest Intel IGP really has more compute power than than the GT750M. -
Hi .. i've already downgrade Y410p win 8 to win 7 ..
But, my wifi/wlan doesn't active ...fn + f5 doesn't work ..
I can't connect to internet :-( -
If anyone tries a Y400 GN35 with the Y410P let us know!

I see that you shrunk and cloned the OS partition, but did you clone the GPT as well? Windows 8 requires this partition as well in order to boot.

New nvidia beta drivers have been released: GeForce 320.49 Beta Drivers Released | GeForce
750m is supported and the new drivers installed for me without any problems. -
I just asked a sales rep and they told me they're coming in July...
-
Thanks for the notice. Just installed them and so far so good, benchmarks even went up a bit.
3dMark11 scored jumped from P2845 with the stock drivers to P2919 with 320.49.
And the integration with the integrated graphics still works.
Looks like a great update. -

I'd be willing to place money that there are just as many answers as there are support reps at Lenovo....
BUT if they do come out in July I will certainly have my conversation to show them...maybe even get a discount.... -
Thanks for the heads up BerryKerry. The drivers fixed *some* of the lighting glitches in FC3:BD.
-
I will return my y410p if we don't have sli support. At that point I don't know what else they have lied about. The whole anti-glare screen thing didn't bug me that much, but this will be all I can take from lenovo. I hope the sales rep you talked to was hopelessly confused.

No y410p model comes with Stock SLI. You will have to buy the card manually and install it yourself. Hope that helps.
-
I am reffering to this.....I know that none of the models come with the second graphics card. If we can not eventually buy and add a second graphics card I would be returning my y410p.

Oh. In that case, im not sure, however i do think its possible to add one of the ultrabays from the 15 inch series.
-
The Ultrabay accessories for the Y500/510p are larger and will not fit. You will need to look for Ultrabay components with the 'GN35' designation in the description.
-
Micaiah I remeber some post back that you returned your y410p what laptop did you move onto?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
Nothing yet, but very likely the W230ST.
On the topic of the Ultrabay, I can confirm the Y510p's GT 750M will not fit the Y410p. The housing on the Y510p's GT 750M is slightly wider and will hit the inside of the laptop about one-third of the way in. -
What about the y400 750m?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
Can't confirm, but that definitely would be your best chance. The Y510p guys can use Y500 Ultrabay accessories, so I would assume the same applies for the Y400 and the Y410p.
-
Apart from a 10$ price difference, i see no reason to buy a y400 over a y410p.
Note that this is not the case for the 500/510p, as they are cutting out on CPU features on the y510p SLI. -
yeaH the lighting on the space bar is also weird on mine.

you cant get that, its a part of windows 8. But you can use mobility center, Windows key + X
