Dunno what happened, but i was gaming, and after about an hour, the GPU just downclocked itself to 400mhz, note that i did not pull out the power adapter. The GPU's temp right before it throttled was only 62°C, and the CPU was not throttling.

Anyways i rebooted the computer and it fixed itself.

Hey does anyone know what the exact fan noise under load (dB wise) is for this notebook?

Not for the y410p, but notebookcheck.net did a review on the y510p and took measurements on the fan noise.

Yeah but the Y510p has two fans (ultrabay)... Y410p should be a tad quieter in comparison... it's a pretty silent laptop if you ask me, the fans are inaudible under low load but at higher loads you can hear them, but they are never loud enough to be too bothersome.

Also if you replace the stock HDD with a SSD, system is VERY quiet.

But really I can't think of anything other than make sure to uninstall bloatware. Anything specifically you're concerned about?

Quiet. as an example, in Playing Battlefield or FC3 for hours I do not even notice the fan. The speakers are awesome, and game sounds are all you hear. Fan noise is no a problem whatsoever. That was one of the important reasons I chose this laptop over other faster but much noisier laptops. The Y410P also stays fairly cool when gaming. Playing on your lap, even bare legged is no problem at all for me. My Lenovo X220 runs hotter.

Unless you plan on running anything older than Windows XP, i suggest leaving the BIOS on AHCI. The hard drive performance is a day-and-night difference between both.

Anyone have or know where to get a spare bezel for the ultrabay (the large piece that says "DVD" and has the button, etc)? When switching out my DVD drive to an SSD, one of the clips of the bezel broke and now it won't install flush. Thank you!

I'll be ordering the the Y410P tomorrow. What bloatware should I remove? I saw a website with a list of all the included bloatware, but don't want to remove something important. Thanks!

This is so very true. I am running an SSD and unless I am playing games, I do not even hear the fan. My cooling pad is louder than the fan. Even typing is louder than the fan.

Has anyone had issues with Windows 8.1 and external USB 3.0 hard drives? After about 5 minutes of being connected, my external disconnects and reconnects itself, interrupting any file transfers that were in progress... This is utterly frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would not say, that the notebook is quiet, especially in idle mode. Fan is spinning all the time and if you are not listening to music, you can clearly hear the noise. When you play game with sound on, i can understand, that you dont hear the noise :)

If you are on Windows 7, which does not have native USB 3.0 support, i suggest downloading the Windows 7 USB 3.0 drivers on Lenovo's site for best compatibility.

McAfee, MS Office Trial and Pokki are the big ones.

in W7 i have 3 power options (default ones).
power saving, regular, maximum power, the CPU clock changes from 800 to 1200 to 2400Mh. Is there some way how to setup that the maximum power will not have 2400mhz but lets say 2900mhz?

    Thank you for reply.

    the correct values are, 800/1,6/3.2.
So on max power it goes to max frequency given in XTU

    Hi Everyone,

I recently came across a problem where I was getting stuck on the "shutting down" screen. After scouring for answers, I came across a thread where it was suggested to disable some of the intel services that are running in the background to solve the problem. It didn't quite solve the problem, but then I ran into something else..

I noticed that when I open intel rapid storage, I see that everything is "functioning normally", but when I execute "eccmd.exe -info" in the command prompt, it shows that Cache Read and Write Percent is 0.00%. I'm not too sure what's going on here. Is my ssd still working as a cache or not? please help. Thanks.

I was wondering, does the Y410P have a spill-resistant keyboard?

Also, is it okay to leave it charging all the time? I've had physical problems that have kept me bedridden for the past two years, and thus spent a lot of time on my laptop. I keep my current one plugged in almost all the time as a result. Is it okay to leave it plugged in, or will that hurt it?

How hot does it get? I have a HP Pavilion dv6 and it gets VERY hot. The only game I can play where it doesn't get extremely hot is Half Life 1. And it can run games moderately well, it has an i7 and 650m. I really don't want to buy another laptop where I don't even feel safe gaming on it.

The keyboard is not spill resistant (this feature is exclusive to the T series) and you can leave it plugged in as long as you are using protected battery mode which prevents charge past 60%.

Is it possible to use the y410p without the battery alltogether? It will be 2 months before i start school and i dont want to drain the battery life of it before school even starts.

Yes you can use the laptop without the battery, however the battery will still drain naturally even when unplugged from the laptop. The laptop is not the reason of the battery's drain, the battery itself is. Be sure to charge the battery one every 3 weeks or so to make sure it doesn't stay at 0% too long, otherwise it might malfunction.

    Greetings everyone

I am new here -- Just ordered a Y410 on Jan 23, 2014 in the afternoon and it got here today before noon.

You should have a tracking number to see what is up. I hope you get it soon.

I have a question to anyone.

How do I stop the screen jumping to the Lenovo Add display when not using for about a min. ?

It is very annoying and desturbing.

    Thank you

I have a question about overclocking.... How much should I put it to if I wanna stay in safe temps while gaming? I think the most demanding game I'll be playing is Skyrim with RealVision ENB, if I overclock it 100mhz from stock in msi afterburner, what would be it's desktop equivalent, around? Can I do it even more, while staying in safe temps? Jobine, how the hell do you do this? And to the guy above me, just go into the control panel and decide when to dim or turn off the display, I set mine to 30 minutes.

100mhz core and memory is a small OC, it will probably increase temps by up to 5°C max, about 2-3°C i would say.

To use MSI afterburner, download and install. Note that if you enable optimus (Auto-Select) or use the iGP in any way (Integrated Graphics), your MSI afterburner settings will erase themselves, so you will either need to head to the NV control panel and disable optimus (set to "HIGH PERFORMANCE NVIDIA GPU") [it will hurt battery life] to make sure your overclocks are persistent on reboot, or apply your overclock every time you launch a game.

Thanks. What would be a considerable OC that's worth the performance? 200? And I have my igpu off, I think. The global settings is nvidia gpu and I rarely use the battery, in my .ini files in Skyrim it says my sD3DDdevice is Intel HD 4600, but the launcher says GT755M, I doubt it sometimes.
It's almost always plugged in. So a 200mhz OC is around equal to a desktop gtx 460? My temps are max 82°C CPU and 76°C GPU(Stock). No cooling pad.

Ok I did adjust the display time as mentioned above by Trickywitch and needed to do, thank you for that.

While in desktop or tile page and not touching the compputer for about a min. or two suddenly it goes to a screen showing a movie with a meteor coming at you and shaking then to the demo showing some of the features of the laptop then repeats all over till you touch the computer again. It will go back to the work page -- wait a bit and do again.

Probably everyone has this at first -- How can I shut that off completely?

    Thank you

That's called a screensaver! LOL! To turn it off, right click somewhere on your desktop, select Personalize, go to screen saver, select "None" from the drop down menu, and press OK.

LOL -- So that what that was -- Well after coming off a 9+ year old laptop with W-XP 32 bit and being a very long time sence I had to set up a laptop and new to this W-8.1 I have a bit of a very high learning curve ahead of me.

First thing I did was remove the log on screen and lock screen and actualy the screen saver was already off it seems. After setting the sleep time to 30 min and a shut down, seems the video screen saver is gone.

I appreciate the help simple though it may seem for some of you -- will learn this though in due time.

    Thank you

I have the Y410P with the 1TB+24GB SSD hybrid. I cloned the windows partitions to an SSD and plan to wipe the original drive clean. Will the 24GB SSD just be useless at that point?

You can use it as a Linux drive or as a storage drive, but if you are using a standard SSD, then it's kind of a waste. I also recommend caddying the HDD.

I am going to do about the same thing. Using a Samsung EVO, First I am setting up the 1-tb HHD with the settings I like and a few programs such as security, word processor etc.. Then I will clone to the SSD and set the 1-tb aside for future if I sell the laptop etc..

So does that mean the 24GB ssd will become non functunable or just act an extra SSd storage. Can you explain a bit more for me?

    Thank you

Hello all, new to this forum. I recently bought the most expansive version of Y410p from Lenovo's Canadian website and so far the experience has been pretty bad.

First of all the keyboard is the Canadian Multilingual version which is simple bad and I tried to get used to it but just can't. I kept typing the wrong password to email and everything due to the short left shift key and can't reach the enter key because it's so far away compared to a US keyboard.

Second, the touchpad is terrible. It came with some kind of white dust/mark/fingerprint? or something on it, I cleaned it, but after using it a bit it shows again and affects tracking. Also the ELAN software is TERRIBLE. Compared to the Synaptics touchpad on my old Dell Inspiron 700m which I have been using up till now, the ELAN has pretty much no customization. On Synaptics I changed each corner of the touchpad to a different function, like top-left is close (alt+f4), lower-right is close tab (ctrl+w)(for firefox browsing), top-right is right-click, I pretty much never had to use the buttons. But on ELAN I can't do any of that. Basically, all I can do is assign a different function to the left/right buttons, the rest of the touchpad is not customizable AT ALL.

The thing is I can live with the terrible touchpad but the keyboard issue is driving me nuts. I called their support asking for keyboard swap to US version due to Nexuz's post.
but after transfering me 3 times their sales dept told me
That is such a load of crap because I know they sell US keyboard Thinkpads in Canada so I asked them if i got a Thinkpad I'd still get this terrible French keyboard? and they said
LOL ok so basically they are "breaking the law" by not shipping multilingual keyboards on Thinkpads?

Nexuz if you still browse these forums could you tell me how you got the Lenovo people to swap the keyboard for you please?

Or could anyone else succeeded in convincing Lenovo to swap the keyboard give me some pointers?

I'm also thinking remapping the key beside left-shift to shift with AutoHotKey, but then i won't be able to type "\". =(

You can use the 24GB SSD for storing files you want faster access to than the slower HDD. The Samsung EVO will actually be faster than the internal M.2 SSD, so that should be your main drive. Unless you really need the DVD, I would remove it and stick the original 1TB HDD in a caddy in its place.

That's what I did. Cloned the HDD to an EVO 500GB SSD, moved the HDD to a caddy after removing the DVD, and turned the 24GB SSD into another drive where I store frequently used files. I use the HDD as my game repository for Steam, and other less used files. My boot drive is the Samsung, and I can do a cold boot in under 10 seconds. I use the camera as a facial recognition logon device, and for Skype.

    Thanks Jobine,

But I gave up with the y410p. Since I've done with gaming I think there's no reason to have this gaming beauty. Also it does not feel like I'm using i7 quad core after my core 2 duo HP. Maybe I couldn't set this great laptop like you guys. I feel like I want something like an ultrabook.

Hey, how do you manage to use ENB ?
because after i install the ENB file, the game will use Intel HD 4600 and not GT 750M which make the game unplayable.
