Go and download the nvidia optimus fix at the Skyrim nexus, this fix works for every Bethesda game. Rename the ENB d3d9.dll to d3d9orig.dll, then drag the oprimus fix d3d9.dll to the folder and it should work!

Thanks Sanman,
I am looking at the 500 and 250 as well. I use only a few games like Farcry, BF3 single player single shooter types. In this case I do need the DVD drive so will only install the SSD.
A sore issue is with the forced use if the IE-11 on the W-8.1 and not being able to unplug TABS.
One cannot install the IE-10 it seems.
OK folks I do have a simple question -- so no giggling and Laughing -- can you give the instruction for Diming the Key board? Did not find that [ or much of anything else ] in the very bland instruction coming with this unit.
Thank you -
Hello All,
I've recently purchased the y410p (1TB+24G SSD cache, 8GB RAM, i7, GT 755M, 1600x900, WIndows 8.1 pre-loaded). Out of the box, everything seemed to set up just fine. Created my profile, unistalled McAfee, uninstalled a few other apps and some (but not all) bloatware, intalled AVG, grabbed a few apps from the windows store, verified that my cahe was working. All fine. Fast boot times, snappy response in general. Then I installed Path of Exile, Steam, Visual Studio 2012 Express and SQL Server 2012 Express....and then everytime I booted, it would get past the lenovo splash screen and just hang there...never proceeding to the WIndows login screen. I would have to press the power button to power down. Yikes! So since I wasn't in too deep, I just started fresh by re-installing the factory image that comes stored on the hidden partition using the one button recovery.
Again, everything sets up fine. This time I keep McAfee, just because I went straight to seeing if it was SQL server causing issues on startup. So i downloaded SQL server and VS, and *incidentally* installed 16 windows updates that MCafee found for me that AVG free didn't flag the first time around. After this, the machine will boot, but it is sooo slow. Takes forever to log on and then apps take forever to load. I think it may be due to McAfee. I try to reboot, but while shutting down it just hangs on the "shutting down" screen. Hard power down. Boot again, uninstall Mcafee, it gets hung up while uninstalling, Hard power down. Mcafee appears to be gone, but trying to install Avast free hangs. Try to power down hangs..hangs...hangs. Deep breath...
Better now. Any way. I recognize that I've complicated things by changing so many variables on each install, but just this morning before heading into work I did another recovery from the factory image so I'm back to square one. I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on what I should do and shouldn't do when I get back to it tonight. I really want to get rid of as much bloatware as possible. I don't want to have to spend more money (ie. new OS key, additional SSD).
My plan is to remove Mcafee 1st thing and use windows defender. At which point I'll try a couple of reboots and see if I have any issues with it hanging. If not, then I'll start removing other lenovo bloatware and pokki. Then if that still works, I'll start to install some of my programs. Any other pearls of wisdom to help guide me before I send this thing back (ie, critial driver updates, things to watch out for)? I mean, I really love the hardware specs on this machine, I just need to get it set up. Many thanks in advance for the help. -
I'm using an EVO 256GB and I noticed the cold boot takes a lot longer than I expected for SSD. Is there a limitation in speed by running the drive in the Ultrabay or something? Or is it just that Windows is taking a while for the first few boots after a fresh install?

Nothing's going wrong with your laptop, it's the way disk caches work. I ditched SSD caching myself and Installed Windows 7 to the 24GB SSD (PM me if you wanna know how i did this and why it's working out great for me). -

Off topic: My macbook air's cpu runs constantly at 95 degrees C and my heatsink is only at 47 degrees C. My warranty has already ended. Do i need to reapply thermal paste? Also, i can't even feel the fan even at max rpm.

i thought after i shipped my laptops (yes, two. original and replacement), i would be on with my life. now here i am a month later and im still fighting with them to get my money back. WORST COMPANY EVER. No body knows what they are doing, knows the procedures, or even have the correct information.
on a positive note, it was an amazing laptop when it worked. it checked all my boxes for what i needed at a good price.
TLDR- bad bad bad bad company. no one has the correct info about anything. good product when it worked. save money for something else. -

I saw some folks are successfully running BF4 on their y410p's. I've got a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 and the latest GeForce drivers. Nothing. BF4 refuses to load, in single or multiplayer mode. Nothing.

I just want to say - Wireless-N 7260 does not save you from network issues. I have gotten two Y410p models with this card and both have horrible wifi issues. The connection cuts in and out, can't sustain any sort of download without overloading the router and making it essentially reboot itself. I've never had this issue with any other computer or laptop connected to the same network.
I have tried multiple drivers without success. Any help? -
So I picked up a y410p (59399853) and I'm interested in swapping the 24GB SSD for the DigitalSSD 256GB drive. My question is I have a Y480 with a 500GB HDD and 128GB mSATA SSD. How would I go about migrating my Windows 7 backup to the Y410p? I'd like to do this as painlessly as possible but I don't have an external drive.

If you guys are looking for the right SSD for the Y410p. it's this one:
Amazon.com: MyDigitalSSD SC2 Super Cache 2 42mm SATA III 6G M.2 NGFF M2 SSD Solid State Drive (128GB): Computers & Accessories

I did see that one, hence my confusion but I was referring to the Intel one since it's a much larger size. I found with my current SSD (128GB) that it ended up not being enough and I couldn't keep 20% free without compromising something. Thanks for the link though.

The 128GB MyDigitalSSD is the largest 42mm M.2/NGFF SSD on the market as of now. The 180GB Intel 530 you linked to is an 80mm part; it won't fit. The description on the e-tailer's site is incorrect. If you need it now, pick up a 256GB 840 PRO (I've been seeing them on sale a lot recently and relocate the 1TB spinny drive to a caddy.
Edit: I've wondered if a 60MM drive can be made to fit. It would require desoldering a capacitor and remote mounting it with a few inches of wire, and taking a dremel to the case. -

Hi, I'm looking at the Y410p right now and I think I want to buy this one, but I'm having trouble choosing between the different versions.
I'm thinking of going with the $799 version but I'm worried it will have the smaller battery capacity than the $779 version. Which would be better, to have a bigger battery at 799 or a small SSD for the windows partition for 20 bucks more but a slightly smaller battery?
Thanks for the help. -

I purchased the Y410p on the 28th. It said it'd ship on the 3rd. (Today) I got an e-mail two days ago saying my order has been delayed for up to a month. I contact Lenovo with my e-mail and order number and they say the order doesn't exist. I check my account, and it still shows up under orders, and still says it'll ship today. On top of that, I've kept an eye on my bank account, and only the $119 for the Depot has been taken out; nothing for the laptop. What is going on?!?

I'm struggling to connect my notebook to a HDMI HDTV to display 1920x1080 resolution output onto the HDTV. I have the 1366x768 model. What settings must i change either on my TV or notebook to achieve this. I'd appreciate a response, thank you.

What are some cleaning tips for the laptop, such as the palmrest edges(gap between palmrest shroud and underside frame) and general maintenance?

Hi, I am a newbie, I was thinking of getting the basic y410p with I5 and 500gb 5200rpm harddisk, and adding a SSD in place of dvdrom. Is it possible?

I am getting concerned because what I could understand was some connectors are missing somewhere if you don't order this model with something
Also, are the wifi related issues still persistant? any other issues? [because this thread has been along for a while, I am assuming if there was a hardware problem, they might have rectified in new model?]
I apologise for my noobness -
Hello everyone, I recently bought a Y410p with the 900p screen and nvidia 755m graphics and I'm having a hard time installing and using linux on it.
I've tried two distro's so far, Mint with KDE and Elementary OS and it's had issues with both.
Elementary OS will boot and install fine but the cursor keeps flickering, if I install an nvidia driver then it becomes unbootable too.
Mint will boot from compatibility mode on my live USB, but once it's installed it simply won't boot up.
I've searched for two days now and can't find much about this particular laptop and linux compatibility, so does anyone here run linux with theirs and can recommend some fixes or a certain distro for this machine? I don't want to have to manually turn the nvidia card on and off everytime I reboot too.
thanks,
- Tyler
tl:dr this laptop hates linux, need to know of a working distro or how to get mint bootable or elementary os with a non-blinking cursor. -

On my Samsung tv I could only get it to work if I named the HDMI input setting to "PC"? Not sure why but it wouldn't work if I set it to "Game." I then have it sending the natural 1600x900 resolution to the tv which I had to rescale the ratio to make it look right. Same thing applied to if I set the output resolution to 1080p. But yahh. Not sure if that even remotely answers your question haha -
I ordered one, hope it gets here quickly.
