I don't but my wireless connection tend to connect but unable to load webpages when I'm in area where there's a lot of other people at my school's library. My friends' macbook internet are doing fine but mine mostly fail. However, I can load webpagesfine at home or in area where there is less people.

Then just buy the 7260 N this way you wont have to mod the BIOS.

Aside from that, most school internet connections are crap and they are not a proper measure of wireless performance.

Can you provide an url with the exact one?

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Intel, Wireless Adapters, 7260

    or Amazon.com: intel 7260

And I'm in no rush, so maybe wait for my home router to be upgraded to AC and then I'll have my laptop ugrade to it as well. Which AC 7260 is the best one?

Hi everyone. I just got my y410p (1600x900) yesterday, and I'm thinking about returning it. I'm really disappointed with the quality of the screen. I know I've probably been spoiled by my Retina MacBook Pro screen, but this Lenovo one is ridiculous. The colors are really washed out, and the viewing angles (up and down) are terrible. I use my machine on my lap, and I'm constantly having the adjust the screen tilt so that I can see the screen.

It's a shame - this is a sweet machine. I bought it to replace a Dell Inspiron 15r Special Edition - which was a great machine, but weighed about as much as a Volkswagen ;)

Maybe I'll get used to it.....who knows. By the way, mine has the Elan touchpad, and it works great. Keyboard is really good, too. Damn screen! Ugh! This would have been the perfect laptop for me.

Unfortunately, the y410p screen quality is really bad. I'm thinking of returning my new one because of it. It's not just yours.

This is a cheap laptop. You are expecting wayy to much. Its buying a ferrari with a sub par paint job with toyota money.
It feels and does awesome but its not that good to look at.(screen)

Try adjusting the contrast and gamma settings in the intel control panel. I set the contrast to 25 and gamma to 0.9 to make the screen look less awful though you can't really do much with a cheap screen. Should be in display->color->color enhancement

I have been using the 7260-N that came with the laptop from Lenovo with ZERO problems since I bought it last year. It's actually better than the Lenovo X220 it replaced. Fast, reliable, never drops, and even works great in all the hotels I am in when traveling, Perhaps just buy it direct from Lenovo?

Thanks for being so condescending. I don't know where you come from, but $933 is not a "cheap" laptop. My wife's 4 year old Sony VAIO (which cost $500) has a screen that's much better. I don't think asking for a screen that you can actually read the text on is asking too much.

Well of course you're gonna be disappointed comparing it to a rMBP or 2013 Nexus 7. Those are in a completely different class of display quality. Vertical viewing angles on cheap TN (Y410p) ain't gonna touch that of IPS. Not to mention those tablets and MacBooks have 8-bit panels with much wider color gamut and factory calibration so more saturated and accurate colors and less banding. And don't forget the much higher PPI compared to the Y410p. I mean, I'd pull my hair out if I tried to compare my Dell U2412M to my Retina iPad in terms of display quality even though the two cost almost the same.

If anyone wants an HDD caddy for there y400/y410p then look no further. This caddy not only fits perfectly, it comes with a Bezel, HDD indicator light and 4 screws to hold the drive in place. A tiny screwdriver is even thrown in. The only thing you have to add is the mounting bracket (on the DVD drive) as seen on the listing page.

    that's a really-good laptop
i don't think its the same money as the y410p though, i bought mine about $850.
but i wouldn't hesitate to choose it over the top y410p model if i were going to buy now!

The default config comes out to $964.25 and then there's a $100 Windows 8 rebate on top of that. A $14.25 difference for much more PC? Hecks, yeah! But realistically I'd step up to 16GB ram ($81 is a good deal for that), and the $30 256GB A-Data SSD. Not to mention Lenovo charged me sales tax, and CyperPower does not. The XPLORER X3 actually ends up being cheaper than a Y410P! :D

    What's resale on a 10 month old Y410P I wonder?

I don't see why people are still buying Y410p's. The laptop is a year old.

As for me I don't need another laptop for another 2 years.

And frankly, the Y40 doesn't look like a worthy successor. A worthy successor would have been:
    - 14'' FHD or QHD+ panel
    - GT 850M Maxwell (Underclocked 860M) with SLI

800$ for non-SLI and 1000$ for SLI. They could have recycled the Y400's design again since the 800 series uses less power and runs cooler anyways, so no thermal problems.

so i was one of the people who bought y410p during black friday/early dec 2013 (i bought model# 59399853) & i hadnt unboxed it & started it up til today due to being so busy with school...i'm a college student in his 3 last semesters so everything else tend to be put on the backburner...

i decided to start it up today after i heard about microsoft forcing us to get the 8.1.1 update before may 13th..
when i boot it up for the 1st time today, i got the black screen with grey lines flickering in the middle, no lenovo logo, no message, nothing...
do i have to call lenovo support & get it fixed or exchange it for another one?

This thread is probably near death, but I my Y410P, new is having overheating issues. It's 90C on both GPU and CPU at full load @ 2.4GHz on CPU, 100 MHz over-clock on GPU.

lol shaders destroy gtx 780tis. Dont even bother running it on a 755m.
i would say it is unrealistic since your fps is so low u cant play in those settings anyways.

With custom shaders I modified, I hit 60-90 FPS, which is nice but yeah they're pretty heavy on the GPU.

Either way, I don't think this laptop could really last going through many games at this heat though, I was thinking about repasting but I have no idea how to. I'm worried about damaging the laptop, cause I kinda messed up my old laptop by ripping the speaker cords off by accident, but I don't suppose modern laptops are built that way.

Try vsync or fps limitation to 60. If it hits 90 fps, you are just wasting 33% of the gpu power and creating more heat for frames u cant even see.

I do, do that. But my real question is, how does this handle BF4, BF3 and other high-end games that'll rip the GPU to 100% for the whole session?

Will the Y40 replace the Y410p?

In other words, once the Y40 comes out will the Y410p still be available?
I'm not able to get money enough for the Y410p until after the Y40 is released (which is speculated the first week of May?)

The Y40 is definitely out of my price range, and I'm only able to buy laptops that are around $800. The Y410p is the only laptop that I have found that comes with a decent GPU, good processor, good resolution, and other great specs.

I'm looking to upgrade the panel on my y410p after seeing my friends' y510ps matte screen. Is the matte screen (1600x900) from laptopscreen.com any better than the stock y410ps glossy screen (1366x768)? In terms of viewing angles and color?

I'm not totally sure, but the mechanical drive may be the bottleneck. You'll need an ssd to take advantage of the full bandwidth that usb 3 offers.
