Yes. Less current = less heat. Just don't go so low that the CPU can't run stably.

Alright cool. Is the 128gb m.2 ssd cheaper than the regular ssd? Does the DVD drive consume any power if it's left plugged in? I never use it is why I am asking.

Okay! Makes sense tho. Someone please provide my info on how to UV. And safest UV. I do it on my Note 3 all the time and it's totally safe as, the only thing it does if it can't take it is restart. :) Someone said -80mv?

    1) It appears that you do have the M.2 connector. Just remember that this laptop can only accommodate M.2 SSDs that are 42mm long.
    2) The MyDigitalSSD 128GB M.2 SSD is currently the highest capacity 42mm M.2 SSD on the market. It's prob roughly similar in performance to a 128GB 2.5" SATA3 SSD.
    3) Using the M.2 drive allows you to retain both the 1TB HDD and the optical drive.
    4) If there isn't a disc in the optical drive, it should use little to no power.

Just as Jobine posted on the last page, go -50 on Proc. Cache and -80 on Dynamic using Intel XTU. Really simple. DL the program, slide that bars, done.

You can mess around with the Dynamic number, people have gotten it up to 110, but some machines it causes instability like mine. I hit 100 with out issues and didn't care to try any higher, noticed temp drops of about 7 - 10 degrees in BF4.

Lol. Nah! I will play it safe. This lappy gives me 30+ FPS on almost every game I tried on it. I just wanna mess with it a little. :p Whats the software to tweak it? Can't find it.

And at what rate does the Always-On port charge? It's seems to be CRAZY fast. Charged even my Note 3 up by almost 25% in 30mins. Like WHAT?! Lol. And Note 3 uses 2.0A charger.

M.2 SSD is your best option if you ever wanna go SLI but still keep the added bulk storage of a conventional hard drive. While the M.2 from MyDigitalSSD is slower than Sata3 SSD's, the difference is not noticeable if you are just using the SSD as an OS drive.

I have not tried the powered usb port in the BIOS, i have mine disabled because of battery life.

As for SLI it's only a 99$ upgrade for 60% more GPU performance, though you will need a few hardware mods to do it. It's a nice little DIY project that adds some performance to the laptop.

It is Intel XTU. You will need to find the most up to date though. Not sure if the below link is to the latest

Hey guys, so I finally hooked my laptop up to a 1080p display. LG 22MN42A. But I don't like the way it shows. Contrast is off I think. And I think it's from the laptop. Any pointers? I have tried to adjust the TV settings. To no avail.

Open up the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel, go to "Display" and then "Color".

If you're on Linux you will have to toy with the X server settings and I have no idea how to do that.

I'm not on linux but thanks... Don't think it worked so well tho. Or maybe I'm expecting too much from the screen? Colors look really off. Like darker. Too much contrast or something. Don't know. I'm very confused.

Still having trouble with my Display adapter crashing. It does it even when I am not using Chrome now. The balloon notification says the Windows 8 display adapter driver has crashed but recovered..the thing is I am using Windows 7. I have uninstalled and reinstalled just the Lenovo device specific drivers and it is still doing this.

Am I the only one with this problem? What am I missing?

Its really frustrating..my 6 yr old Gateway laptop gave me less trouble than this.

You sure it is from the laptop? Unless it has to do with the quality of the people who put it together, I think you need to check the screen settings? Is it a TV or a monitor?

    Hi and hello,
I have really enjoyed reading these posts and advice in this thread. But I really can't follow it all, as a noob, with hope to learn pointers to how, how, how to make SSD upgrades in Ultrabay.
Since I am retired with an expense limitation, maybe I can save on buying the SSD's smaller. with a priority to set this up properly. A challenge for me really. Do I need more than 250 MB for the OS and a few programs, withan added 100MB or so for supercache? Anyway, I am not a gamer so the sli is not yet a priority. I like to to mod multimedia movies to library, sometimes stream the stuff and move on.
I thank anyone in advance to help get me started - thank you.

You *MIGHT* be able to get 750+755 working with dSLI.

Personally, i don't need SLI, since i only play 2 games on this laptop (Dolphin Emu and APB:Reloaded) and both of these are CPU-intensive rather than GPU-intensive.

Aside from that my Y410p is purely related to schoolwork or VM testing. That and the 99$ card is not for sale in Canada :(

Funny thing is i tried the RGB or VGA cable that connects to CPU and color is fantastic. The cable came in the box, i didn't even care about it at first. But now, i can't get the volume on my TV's speakers... :( And why RGB cable works better than HDMI, i do not know. -_-

I would say go with an M.2 SSD for OS and baseline software. You can get a 128GB which should prove more than sufficient. This will allow you to keep your regular HDD in place and use it for data such as videos and music as well as large programs. This will allow you to maximize your total storage while seeing the benefits of an SSD.

My 410p display colors seem washed-out compared to, for example, the display on my Nexus 7 tablet. Does anybody know anything that can up the saturation?

    I'm using Win 8.1.

I went through the "calibrate color" sequence in the display properties, and all the color controls are pushed as far right (more color) as they can be - which also gives a good neutral gray. Couldn't find anything in the Nvidia control panel that seemed to apply.

For reference, I discovered this looking at the attached pic. The one attached isn't the original, since that was too big to upload; I resized it in PhotoShop.

Hey everyone - wondering if I could get some advice on whether to get a Y410P or Y510P for my wife as a desktop replacement.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...y410p-vs-y510p-advice-thread.html#post9623362

Y410p is a little bit cheaper, and more RAM (12 gb vs 8gb) included.
Y510p has nicer FHD screen (but maybe hooked up to Dell U2412M ultrasharp monitor most of the time), and has an extra number pad (she does accounting work/excel a lot)

Harry, the hardest part of swapping out an HDD with an SSD is moving the OS and applications. That is why I bought the Samsung SATA III SSD KIT, which includes the software and SATA III dongle for USB, which makes the transfer VERY simple. It may cost a couple dollars more, but It was well worth it for me.

SInce you will be removing the 1TB HDD, I would go with at least a 256GB SSD. If you are going to get a caddy to put you HDD into the DVD slot, then a smaller SSD would be fine. I like the Samsung EVO series. There is also a great Youtube video on how to take apart the entire laptop. You just need to do the part up to the main HDD.

If I were choosing a laptop right now, I would not pick the y410p since it is almost a year old and there are better options.

But if you're picking between the y410p and y510p, it mostly comes down to size and whether or not you want a better screen. Everything else is essentially the same.

Yeh. I don't get why people buy "desktop replacement" laptops. Those would be some 2" thick laptop anyways. A MITX build would be much cheaper, more powerful and will have much better upgradability.

I was thinking of upgrading my wireless card (N-2230) to 7260 on my y410p but unsure which one is the best from this list:

    Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006519%2050001157%2040000031&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&SrchInDesc=7260&Page=1&PageSize=20

    Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=intel%207260&sprefix=intel+72%2Caps&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aintel%207260

Can someone link the top 3 choices with why for each one? Or not even the 7260 and there's a better wireless card compatible with y410p.

I understand I will need to mod my BIOS which is a no problem unless there's something to be aware of besides voiding warranty.

Do you have an AC router? Otherwise, there's no benefit to upgrading.
