Successfully installed Intel AC 7260 and the provided windows 8.1 drivers on my y410p. It replaced my old N 2230.

I had to downgrade my bios from 3.05 to 2.07 and installed a modded bios v2.07 with wlan whitelist.

The performance is a lot better now and very noticeably while browsing the net.

Anyone having an issue where their battery is charging extremely slow? I haven't been using my y410p for much the last 4 months or so. I finally started using it and I have had it plugged in about a full day and it charged from dead to 33% and stopped saying "plugged in, not charging". I found a trick to uninstall the lenovo power management program and disable the device manager object. It started charging past 33% but I left it for about 6 hours, it went from 33% to 52%, I unplugged it for 20 minutes and it went from 52% to 41% which seems extreme. Any idea if this is normal? I recall getting almost 5 hours of battery last time I used it, and it charged at a reasonable rate.

The Y430P looks great. Heck, I want it more than the Y40 even if it doesn't have SLI.

i doubt he is talking about how it LOOKS. its how the overall machine is.
look is being used with a different meaning here.

Btw, any idea why my intel hd 4600 is only at 599mhz? i thought i read that it can boost to 1150.

Yeah, I was referring to the specs, not the exterior looks.

I've read all the pages in the Y50 and Y410P thread. Took awhile but I got there.

Nice! I got the same caddy too. I placed the 1 TB HDD from my main y410p into the slot. I replaced the bezel with the y410p's DVD drive's bezel :)

I am currently using a PNY 128gb SSD as main OS and the 1 TB HDD (in the caddy) as a media storage.

No, it's fine. Most optical drive caddies are compatible with these laptops. The particular caddy I linked to was created with the y400/410p in mind and already has the appropriate bezel. Not to mention it has a HDD indicator light.

Is there an ultrabay battery or 8-9 cell battery for the Y410p?

I'm not going to game on the battery, but I would like at least 6 hours of battery life for VMware remote desktop connection and university uses.

Due to incorporating SLI into the ultrabay, the y400/500/410p/510p don't support ultrabay batteries, unlike the Thinkpad line.

Looked up on Google and found 9-cell batteries for Y400.

Can the Y400's 6 cell battery be fitted into the Y410p? If so, could I do the same with the 9-cell battery?

Not sure about the website's reputation, but here's the page:

    6 Cell Lenovo IdeaPad Y400 Y500 Battery

    Wait a second...

Title of the page: 9 Cell Lenovo IdeaPad Y400 Y500 Battery

    "Capacity: 72Wh / 9Cell"

Isn't there a 6 cell stock battery with 72Wh capacity?...

If that's the case, sorry for getting your hopes up over nothing.

Any find it odd we haven't had a BIOS upgrade for this laptop? Only reason I bring it up is that for a while now, mine hangs on "Lenovo" for a little while, when I turn it on and I was kind of waiting for a BIOS upgrade to see if that problem gets corrected.

Ubuntu 14.04 fixed the audio popping issues that were found on the laptop. Runs nice and smooth out of the box now, all you really need to install is Bumblebee.

If you want a caddy I recommend this one: 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y400N Y410N Y410P with Bezel | eBay

If you want to transfer your OS to the SSD you have two options:
1.) Simply clone your OS to the SSD (note: this will only work if your current install is less than 256GB). You can also delete unnecessary data until your install is under 256GB.
2.) Using the One Key Recovery software restore your install to its factory state, then clone it to the SSD.

Out of the two choices the second one is better, but if possible a clean install is your best bet.

So my laptop has been performing like complete poop this week and I'm convinced it's tied to the default harddrive. What would the process for switching to an SSD entail? I've built one PC before but I'm completely new to modding laptops, given that they're all prebuilt and don't offer much in the way of customization.

I have tried everything but my Y410p will not recognize the M.2 SSD in my windows 8 OS. I give up! Sending it back. Why don't they sell the unit with the proper drivers instead of the "Boot Disk" they came up with?

So I'm having this strange problem with my laptop (Y410p, GT750M, 1600x900 pixels). Any game I run crashes after a certain period of time (makes weird noises before it does so). Before I started monitoring the temperatures, I thought it was the cpu/gpu hitting the permissible thermal limit and it would be the subsequent throttling that takes place. Assuming this was the case, I used Intel's XTU utility to undervolt the cpu (-90mV dynamic cpu voltage offset and some other settings) while keeping the gpu untouched for maximum performance. And I have been monitoring cpu and gpu temperatures using realtemp.
After setting up intel xtu to perform the appropriate undervolting, I start any game (eg: AC4) and it runs fine for a while - 10 to 15 mts later, the system makes strange noises and crashes to the desktop. The surprising part is the cpu temperatures max out at 89 (1 core; rest of them remain under 85) and the gpu maxes out at 76.

Seeing that the temperatures are well within permissible limits, I installed throttle stop 6.0 to stop the cpu from throttling. This time games run a bit longer than before (I was able to run AC4 for 20 minutes or so) but they still crash ultimately. The temperatures are more or less the same as before (cpu max: 89, gpu max: 76). And this is not a problem only with AC4.

    - Why is this happening even though temperatures don't even hit the 90C mark?
    - Are there any extra settings within throttlestop 6.0 that needs to be tweaked with?
    - I'm inclined to think this might be a driver issue. Anybody else having similar issues?

I could understand the throttling if the temperatures went up to the 90s or 100s which they don't. Been scratching my head over this for a while now. I am on the latest Nvidia driver at the moment. And I did try switching drivers and going back to some of the previous versions; still no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Playing around with throttlestop and XTU seems to have solved the problem. And my temperatures seem to max out at 80C for the cpu and 76C for the gpu. No apparent frame rate drops have been noticed either.

I have put in around 5 hours into the game now. Been getting between 30-50 fps with the following settings.

    - Resolution: 1600x900
    - Textures: High
    - AA: FXAA
    - V Sync: Off
    - Level of detail: Medium
    - Shadows: Low
    - Reflections: Medium
    - Ambient Occlusion: Off
    - Motion Blur: Off
    - Depth of Field: Off
    - Water: Medium
    - Shader: Low

I haven't played around with each of these settings too much so these might not be the optimal settings to sustain a 30 fps game play.

Update: More consistent 30-40 fps with the medium preset in the graphics quality settings with the textures turned down to medium. Also, make sure you update to the 337.88 nvidia driver.

    Hello all,

I am considering replacing the stock 1TB HDD with a SDD. I have only very light experience with this, but I am considering between two different SDDs:

    Newegg.com - Crucial M550 CT512M550SSD1 2.5" 512GB SATA 6Gbps MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500LW 2.5" TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) With Notebook Bundle Kit

I am fairly certain that these are compatible with the laptop, and I have done research on the method of replacing the HDD. However, I am still very much a greenhorn, and would like as much feedback as I can get. Which of these two SSD's would be a better purchase (other than the GB/ dollar)? I'd be grateful for any help I can get.

Both are good SSDs. Here's a little list of good ssds:

    Crucial M500
    Kingston HyperX 3K
    Samsung 840 Evo/Pro
    Adata XPG SX900
    Adata XPG SP900/SP920

Take your pick. Staw away from the Kingston v300s as they use asynchronous flash. This results in a lot slower performance.
