So guys. what temperatures are you getting while gaming?
I want this laptop to last more than four years!!!
-
-
It ranges from 70-90. Mine stays constant at 80ish or so, I remove the battery while gaming to prevent the battery from getting hot.

Does anyone here happen to have an icc profile for the y410p 1600x900?

I wouldn't be comfortable with temps over 90c, for both the GPU and CPU
Try undervolting the CPU and GPU. You can also try cleaning out the cooling fins/fans and repaste the CPU and GPU with better thermal paste. -
I just purchased a Y410P, model 59392489 and have been trying to skim this thread for the info I need, but am feeling a little overwhelmed. Would someone mind answering a few hopelessly noob questions?
Bear with me, I'm sure these have all been asked before.
What RAM should I buy exactly? Does my particular model have 1x8 or 2x4 for instance? I'd like to upgrade it to 16 GBs as I plan to edit video. In regards to dual-channel ram, is that something I'd benefit from for video editing? How would I buy that particular type?
I've read there are issues with the WiFi card and my network runs on 5GHZ, so I'd like to replace it, but is there any particular type I should buy? I've also read this laptop can be hackintoshed, so I was thinking I could buy one that would work for that too.
I'm planning on swapping the HD for an SSD. Can I then just place the old HDD into the caddy of the optical drive?
Finally, what's the best way to tackle the heating issue? Undervolting? Disabling the turbo boost? I've also read there is a script that runs the fans at 100%, but I've only seen mention of it for the Y510P, would it also work for the Y410P as well? -
1.) My laptop cam with 2x4GB sticks so I'd assume the 8GB y410p models ship the same way. Haswell CPUs aren''t compatible with 1.5V RAM so make sure whatever RAM you pick up is 1.3 volts. I'd recommend that you use dual channel, it's a bit more responsive than single channel, and 2x8GB is the best choice.
2.) If you want to change your WiFi card you'll have to unlock your BIOs first. Lenovo decided to whitelist most WiFi cards with the stock BIOS. Take a look at the TechInferno forum for the unlocked y410/510p BIOS (to access the file you'll need at least 5 posts on their forum): Lenovo Y410p / Y510p - unlocked BIOS / wlan whitelist mod / vbios mod
3.) Sure you can, but first you'll need a HDD caddy. I recommend this one: 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y400N Y410N Y410P with Bezel | eBay
4.) I'd undervolt the CPU immediately using Intel XTU ( https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20617). Jobine ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/member.php?u=575629) can help you with this specific topic. Throttlestop ( Download ThrottleStop 6.00 | techPowerUp) can be used to lower your Turbo Boost speed, but after the undervolt you won't need to lower it by much. I'm not sure about the Dust Remover script, since the y400's temperatures are so much lower I never really looked into it.tigercat44 likes this. -
My y410p came with 1x8gb ram. Seeing that the new y50 also ships with 1x8gb, there's no reason the believe otherwise.
You dont need a special bios if you are just upgrading to the intel 7260n. If you are upgrading to the intel 7260ac, you do.
Try your video editing first. There's no point wasting $65 on 8gb of extra ram if you find out you dont need them. -
Thank you for the quick reponses guys, they are much appreciated.
Here is the RAM I'm looking at purchasing, will it match well with the stock 8GB ram already in the machine?
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C9S-8GRSL - Newegg.ca
I find I am always having to flush the RAM when video editing in my current set-up of 4GB. Just 8GB might be adequate, but I am usually photo editing alongside or have other apps open too.
Also, I figure I'll just buy a wireless USB adaptor to get around any WiFi issues.
Is the only the benefit to undervolting your CPU; maintaining TurboBoost longer by keeping the temperature low? If so I'd rather just disable TurboBoost, and sacrifice speed for overall stability and less heat. -
Undervolting reduces cpu temperatures by quite a lot. When i was at default clocks and voltage, (3.2ghz on 4 cores), intel xtu stress test would make it lose turboboost and drop to 2.4ghz within 30 seconds or so.
With 200 mhz underclock and 90mv undervolt, my cpu now runs at 85 degrees max on turboboost (3.0ghz on 4 cores) straight no problem. I highly recommend you do the same.
Yes, the ram should work but i suggest you wait until you receive your laptop and open it up to make sure it has 1 stick of ram before purchasing. -
So I have been hunting around various forums to find out whether I can put a y510p SLI 750m ultrabay adapter into a y410p. I am getting a slightly used y410p in the next few days, and I am very interested to know if I can.

I'm gonna be buying a laptop for school in the Fall and i've narrowed my choices down to a y410p or a y510p. On Lenovo's site I can't really see any differences between the <$1000 models other than the screen size (15.6" on y510p vs 14" on y410p) and the amount of ram. I actually have a y410p model sitting in my cart right now that has 12 GB of ram, 1x 755m, i7-4700MQ, and 1 TB HDD+24 GB ssd for $860. This seems like a really good deal to me as far as laptops go and I'm thinking this is the superior choice over the y510p, but I thought i would ask you guys first since you obviously have experience with it. My hope is that I wont need a desktop PC at all while at school since I primarily play Counter-Strike: GO and Dota 2, and maybe an MMORPG here and there (WoW, RIFT, Neverwinter, etc). I don't expect or even want to play anything more demanding than that. Do you think the y410p model I'm considering can handle that?
Also, if I do get the y410p are there any tips specific to it that new owners should know? I saw something in the thread that recommended underclocking the CPU. Is that a common thing with owners? -
Those games are not demanding. The y410p can easily run them. You dont need 12gb of ram though. 8 is enough.
I play dota 2 in max settings on average of 72fps according to hwinfo and fraps. i got the 1366x768 model though.
csgo i can easily get 100+fps. -
Would the y400 GN35 module work? It's the only one on Lenovo's site right now. It doesn't say if it's a 750M or 650M or 755M

Not saying this would work, but as long as the GN35 has GDDR5/GK107/Same PCB it in theory should.

I decide to repaste the CPU/GPU, can someone give me some tips.

Not sure if this has been discussed before or not and also can't find anything about it but does anyone noticed that the audio out (3.5mm jack) from this laptop is slightly bass boosted? Like boosted around the mid bass area.
Listening to the same files on my desktop and phone and iPod had much flatter sounds and not so much emphasis on the mid bass/mid range area. And does anyone know how to remove this "EQ" from any settings if possible at all?

IS anyone scared about the Lenovo y410p's build quality? Seems so fragile. 0.0

The build quality is not particularly good but what do you expect? Its a bang for buck gaming machine not a thinkpad. -

Just a note that Crucial has updated its M500 SSDs with a new line, the MX100 - the 256GB is going for US$110.

Does anyone know how to devolt using Intel XTU?

Secondly, during my reassembly, I snapped off the a few ridiculously fragile cable connectors on the mother board being a little clumsy (and novice). You know-the $.0001 sliding type which places pressure when clicked down while the base is un harmed. I can't believe that they expect me to buy another motherboard for damages. Its like the analogy- lets include your automobile "hubcaps" in with a module which includes the suspension and drive train! This is theft!! I am in dispute, as if a box of millions of those little plastic pieces somehow is not lying around someplace or that the piece was part and partial of the board - before they added it on.
haha -
Lastly, where is the modded bios found, please, so I may possibly upgrade same-same?
Thanks -
I'm thinking of getting a y410 for college, but I have a couple of questions:
1. I've been told that build quality is a problem, particularly for Ideapads like the y410. Is this the case? Will it get damaged if I carry it around in my backpack? Should I invest in a carrier case/laptop sleeve?
2. Another, more unorthodox question, what is the best argument for not getting this laptop? -
2: The best argument for not getting this laptop is Lenovo. They are a dishonest company, and I will not be doing business with them in the future. -

I don't think my 24 gb SSD cache is working, its completely empty. Any help?

I'm getting upwards of about 97 degrees (C) on my GPU when I'm playing games like GTA IV, Sniper v2, and CSGO. Room temperatures are only 21-23 degrees. I cleaned out my fan with compressed air and it's free of dust. Some games that run sometimes stop responding and crash. Should I try repasting the GPU with some Arctic Silver paste? (Warranty is already gone)

Arctic Silver is so yesterday. Noctua NT-H1 is better that AS, and IC Diamond is better than Noctua (although it's abrasive and there have been reports of it causing mild damage to components).
