Did you run the memory test in performance mode?
My CL22 3200mhz Lexar memory kit has 76,8 ns latency in the same test(and slightly better read speed but this does differ each test) your CL20 RAM should be faster.

As for mhz vs latency for Ryzen mobile Infinity fabric scales best with faster (read higher bandwith) memory so for mobile 3200mhz (fastest available for now) is the best choise.
Latency is a bit more difficult to compare what matters the most is the tRFC subtiming (560 or less and you're good)-> high latency here will be a bottleneck for your CPU.
CL20 or CL22 will not be much of a difference, both are slow in absolute terms, since Ryzen mobile doesn't support memory OC I would advise to get the cheapest kit with lower latency tRFC timing.

I have similar setup and it was really great to see what the memory upgrade did. Thanks! You got about 1k more in the cpu score in time spy..
I wonder are there any significant changes in fps when playing.

Why do you think tRFC is the primary timing to consider, rather than say CAS latency which is actually involved in data transmission rather than refresh?

So I'm going to be selling my Legion 5 Pro already (just got it 2 weeks ago).
I ended up being able to get the Legion 7 for the same price (except 16GB instead of 32GB) with the same 5800H and 3070. Ordered the 7i as well because I really do want that 11800H as I believe it's a little more future proof with the Windows 11 including DirectStorage and the interface being PCIe Gen 4. The 7i shows as shipping in 4 months though so I figured I would get the 7 and then sell it when the 7i shows up. The only thing I would be downgrading for that is battery life since AMD is far more efficient.

I would suggest returning to Lenovo if you are still within 30 days. Far less hassle in case the buyer was not happy with it for some reason.

Here is a fun comparison: The Legion 5 Pro vs Thinkpad T15g Gen 2. The Thinkpad is basically a gaming laptop in a workstation chassis that can take 128GB of ram. The RTX 3070 is 100W + 10W boost, so a little slower than the Legion 5 Pro 3070. Screen is only 60hz FHD but not a big deal as I always hook up to an external WQHD 27 inch 144hz at home and work anyways.

Hey guys, currently waiting on my new 7i i7/32gb/3080 and i had a couple of questions that I've compiled thru reading the whole 61 pages behind us.

When I get it, id like to extend longevity on the device by making it as cool as possible - was thinking of going with LM on the cpu/gpu and adding some gc thermal pads (found some GC ultimate's but they are 120x20, any recommendations?) to replace the ssd ones and any other i find under the hood, any suggestions?
Wont change ram since the included 32 seem decent and the performance gains are rather minimal considering the cost of the sticks.
I'm also planning on undervolting and oc 100+ on the 3080 since that's what seems like a good idea. Uninstalling iCUE right away or even clean installing the system as I don't really trust manufacturers install with the bloatware they tend to add, but that's on me.
Since we have 2 nvme slots being Gen4/Gen3, any recommendations on a good gen3 or even gen4 for the second slot - 2Tb is a must.

    Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried new pads yet. Someone who has says they are all 1mm except for one that is 1.5mm. They used GP-Extreme because they said they compressed better. I've seen people in discord have good results with LM. I'm just not brave enough to try it .. yet. :D
    I don't know about drives. I see a 2tb Samsung 970 Evo Plus for $280 on Amazon.

Thanks for the reply! Currently debating if I should LM or not, I'm down to do it since it does not seem so dangerous if you protect everything around and have steady hands (I'm also a surgeon so I think I got the hands thing down).
Cooling pads are all over the place on the discord, gonna keep digging till i find the right specs - Also read somewhere that the VRM's have no pads on them, can anyone confirm this?
970 evo plus will have to do, unless i can get my hands on a inland performance for 280 which might be overkill since it is gen4 but hey, e16 controller and good price make it an interesting deal.

I wouldn't worry about LM so much but I store mine in a case at night standing upright. I've seen some good methods to keep LM in its place so I may get brave as the laptop gets older. I don't remember for certain but I think the VRM's do have pads.

btw .. this is the stock paste. Its fairly good paste and one reason the 7i has good thermals. I ordered some a couple weeks ago just to have around if I need it. I think it takes 3 or 4 weeks to get it. https://www.ebuy7.com/item/631006993629

Received my Legion 7i yesterday, there's a cluster of dust about 4 pixels in size smack in the middle of the screen. Tried suction cup, light tapping, etc., nothing will move it. Lenovo CS is awesome and will send out a new replacement laptop. Hopefully it'll be restocked soon (i7 11800H / 3080 / 1TB prebuilt model). I am thoroughly enjoying this one in the meantime until I have to send it back to them.

I am running a GPU OC of +150/+500 in Afterburner. Also able to undervolt the CPU by -.080 in XTU and set all cores to 4.6ghz.

    Timespy: overall 12,805 / graphics 13,037 / CPU 11,633. Pretty great for the 11800H?

    http://www.3dmark.com/spy/22514117

Cinebench R23 test from earlier today: 14,273 multicore. Some thermal throttling occurred, so not sure if this counts as a "valid" result.

I've been away from games last 7 years tbh. What tools do I need to check temps while playing games or running benchmarks? I've only started playing Witcher3 and while the settings are on high, don't feel excessive heat or fan noise.

You can set up Afterburner to see stats in game. For benchmarking you can use HWMonitor and/or HWInfo.

I’ve had some of the same issues too it seems like with steam, battlenet and just in general programs hanging up and freezing for a few seconds at a time and then it’ll go back to normal and life continues on LOL.

I’m on the 7i 11800h 32gb 1TB 3080 model. No mods / OC, just 100% stock at the moment. Micron Memory also.

I’ve had to hard reboot it twice maybe every other time I just give it 5 to 15 seconds to figure itself out and then it snaps back. Let me know if Lenovo has any suggestions or otherwise, I may end up myself also RMAing this unit.

Don't use HWMonitor as it polls the CPU in such a way that it causes high usage and improper temperature readings.

If you notice, there is some red goop just above the CPU heat sink. He said that does not make good contact with the VRM so he scraped it out and used a 1mm thermal pad. You need one that compresses easily though. He said .5mm is too short and the thermalright 1mm is slightly too tall because it doesn't compress much. He is going to use Gelid Extreme 1mm.

Just ordered Gelid ultimate pads 1mm and 1.5mm, as soon as i make the change ill report here how it goes with them, as the ultimate's have better thermal conductivity.
Edit: Aktchually just cancelled the 1mm gelid for 1mm fujipoly thermals that are 17 W/mK.
