Fujipoly thermals that are 17 W/mK is too stiff. And they perform worse than the cheaper fujipoly Alphacool pads (same manufacturer) thermals that are 14 W/mK. Some want to pay more for less.

Gelid GP Extreme 12w/mk all the way. Very soft and forgiven when the fits is problematic.

So a bit less than a month after the initial support call to Lenovo regarding my faulty trackpad, the service was completed today. The on-site tech replaced the entire upper assembly, which included the keyboard. He was on-time, courteous, and had the job completed within 30 minutes. Initial results are promising – in very brief testing, the pad felt much more responsive. I have to say, the overall experience was not entirely unpleasant. It did take an hour on the phone with Lenovo to get them to order the repair, though that's probably not unexpected these days. The only real disappointment was the lack of updates from Lenovo about the status of the part. I had to keep checking the website for updates instead of receiving regular emails.

That being said, I'm very tempted to sell the Legion because I've been daily driving an M1 MacBook Air for the last few weeks, and this thing is phenomenal. It's handled my daily workflow perfectly in a package that is thin, light, and completely silent. I even fired up the Mac port of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and it ran surprisingly well – 1080p and medium settings was more than playable.

Yeah their communication sucks from my experience. I've called (told me to email warranty support) and emailed trying to see how I can extend my warranty. No reply.

So I have had these random blackout shutdowns that need long press bios reset powerbutton holding to start the laptop again with my 5 pro 5800h/3070. Today I got fed up with them and called Lenovo. They said I should return or change the laptop. So I opted to return. I might wait a bit for a 11800h version, but if I can’t find them I will order the same machine again. But. Is this problem a hardware peoblem or a bios problem? So if I buy the amd version again, will I see these shutdowns again? It does it while sleeping, browsing or playing. Every few days. Sometimes twice a day. I believe I have read that others have had these problems also. If there is a fix I would like to keep the laptop. I hoped that bios and driver updates would have helped but no.

They have the Advanced BIOS with XMP settings etc. enabled over on Discord, (provided by Lenovo engineering) - search for “Ben”

Mine was unlocked using RU.EFI and H2OUVE tools.

Its this one. https://discord.gg/lenovolegion They aren't giving it out to anyone else right now, just the few testers. A few people corrupted their bios and bricked their laptops using it. Some were able to get the bios restored but not all yet.

Same dam thing, 5800h/3070 blackout shutdown while playing Witcher 3 after about an hour, CSGO same, all video settings maxed out.
I swapped ram from native 16gb/3200 to 32gb/2666 maybe that's the reason.
More of that it occurred on Win10ltsc, dunno if it helps.
    Bios 36, didn't upgrade.
Will try repasting on weekends, guess it's overheating reason

I have 32gb Impact Hyper X kit. It has endured 8 hours of Karhu ram test, it should work. I had no problems with it on my last Legion 5. I have repasted. Temps are fine, cpu about 90 ja gpu under 80 while gaming. It seems that Nvidia software has always crashed when the shutdown has happened. I installed the new nvidia driver with clean install, lets see if this helps. Now I’m running aida 64 + heaven. No crashing. I will keep that test on for an hour. Id no updates here, it did it without ceashing. It also didnt crash in bf v, I tested about 40 minutes.

I’ll check if something happens again. But I think I found out the cause. The power cable was loosely connected to the power brick. I noticed this because I accidentally pulled the power cable out of the pc while gaming and it did the same thing it has done, shutdown and needs a reset hold. So I checked the power brick and it was so loose that I could hear electrical cracking noises when I moved the table. So check your cables if you laptop shutsdown while high use.

When these blackout shutdowns happen it's like if you were without battery and power cable was suddenly unplugged from the wall. There's nothing strange in event viewer (app, sys, sec), absolutely no other reason.
It's strange cause I have to hold power button for 15 secs or more so it resets/defaults EC or bios I guess, as all turned off lights(keyboard, backlight) are back again and it starts in balanced mode(white) despite I turned it to performance(red).
I could've monitored in Throttlestop for reasons, but it's AMD, have no idea.

Btw my power cable is firmly connected, no issues with that.
It only happened in CSGO and Witcher 3 with maxed out video settings. Dunno if I have to rma my unit.

Wow. If there was any doubt that this thing is capable of being an absolute monster. That score will make Clevo cinderblock owners cry. If they'd just give us XMP already... Have hyper X 64gb on order but taking forever with all the shortages.

All you have to do is make sure the warranty app is installed on your laptop and you can go through that. Either that, or in Vantage you select the support tab and you can increase warranty that way. Make sure to add the code REMOTE10 for 10% off the warranty cost.

That's what I said! I ordered a kit and returned the crucial xmp cl16 kit, because it constantly crashed when I tried to boot it. This kit is basically the same but cheaper (both are dual rank), and slightly looser secondary timings (crucial was 16 18 18 and this new kit is 16 20 20 ) so I'm hoping it will run without any issues.

Ordering it right now, gotta try this neat deal out.

Edit: The 32gb CL16 stick is 135, 32gb 16x2 is this 122 price which is not bad. ill order the 2 32gb sticks when we get an advanced bios.

No matter how I do it extending the warranty is never a choice. I've seen a few others say they can't extend theirs either.

The screenshot above is from my laptop. Not sure why it wouldn't appear on yours - you may have to call. You ordered directly from Lenovo, correct? They should be able to look it up, see that you're well within the extension period, and guide you through the sale process.

Yes, direct from Lenovo. I did call. She looked it up and then said I need to email the warranty people which I did a week ago along with a picture of my receipt and haven't heard back. I just emailed again today. There's something screwy going on.

I had the same issue as well last month but now i am able extend the warranty again. My warranty expires on my Legion 5 next week so its good timing plus thanks to my chase card it'll add another year for free. Im not sure if i should add Accidental Damage Protection with it or not. I dont think you should worry about extending the warranty just yet as you have plenty of time to do so.

I think that is a fair price. I just ordered the Intel 11800H 5i non-pro same specs but with 8gb RAM (replacing it with my own 32gb) and 1TB SSD for $1944 all in / shipped.

Hey if its not too late to cancel your order, I would. I got mine and its single rank, and it wouldn't boot with XMP settings. I'm going to order return mine and order the crucial again and try 3200mhz cl16 20 20 40, which (should) be stable.

Finally, SUB 60ns timing on Tiger Lake!!!

    This is the Kit: https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX432S20IB2K2_32.pdf

Yes, I know it is Single Rank and going against the grain.. (Dual Rank is USUALLY better)

But, Lenovo has a weird BIOS setting/Mboard design that prohibits the use of Gear 1 with Dual Rank Kits.. (I have tried with the Ballistix, GSkill, and Dual Rank 64GB Kingston Fury/Impact kits - all 2Rx8)

This is even with a FULLY Unlocked Advanced BIOS..

Anyhow, this is Custom Timings, 1.3v, 3200Mhz in CR1 Gear 1

I'm running tests right now, but userbenchmark shows good latency numbers!: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/45908034

I'm going to install aida right now and compare to my crucial kit when i get it

Having been an Alienware 17 owner for some 9 years dell operated a zero pixel defect policy. Any ideas on Lenovo ?
I think I’d rather have a replacement then a tech replace the panel as it looks like the laptop needs to be completely taken apart just to replace the screen.

I had the same issue with a 7i received a week and a half ago, there was a dust speck that was 4-5 pixels in size in the middle of the screen. Wouldn’t come out no matter what I tried. I requested a replacement which Lenovo approved but also got an email 2 days ago that they can’t replace because no stock and issued a refund. Really a shame.

So you may want to try getting a tech to replace the screen. In hindsight I probably should’ve done that considering the supply issues.

so you mean actual dust or 4/5 bad pixels?

rather then a replacement did they offer a replacement panel ? I’m based in uk maybe I will try both options. I do think this laptop is one of the best for 2021 and is a keeper.

Actual dust but it was 4-5 pixels in size. I asked for a replacement laptop rather than panel, I should’ve tried going with a replacement panel and see what happened. Oh well. Yeah, this laptop is among the best out there, arguably the best.
