I have the Legion 7i base mode l ( 15IMH05 - Type 81YT) with supposedly the 100% SRGB, 300 nits option in Canada.
If I go to the parts page, I see my model is usually built with the NV156FHM-NY4 panel which has typically 100% SRGB and 1000 contrast ration.
However, my actual unit was built with the LP156WFC-SPP1 panel which has typical 64% SRGB (45% NTSC), 250 nits & 700 contrast ratio according to panelook. These are not equivalent panels at all.
Do I have a case with Lenovo for a replacement? Machine is new and I've been using it for less than a month.
-
mine had 3200mhz samsung M471A1K43DB1-CWE
i got two of them left over after replacing with hyperx 2933 cl17 -
i've never heard of a legion 7i coming with any crap like that one, i'd def call lenovo.
did you buy it used/refurb? it might of gotten hit with the hinge issue which often ends up breaking the lcd panel, could of been replaced with a non lenovo panel -
Sorry to bring up an old message, but does this still work? The picture links are broken.
I'm on firmware EFCN46WW on Legion 5(i7-10750h + RTX2060) hitting 90°C or thermal throttling on the default settings . The only "solution" was lowering the power limit, but of course that comes with a performance hit, so i wanted to unlock undervolting, is it still possible?
Thanks -
Thanks but that sounds like you are taking about the main ram, I meant the ram used by the GPU. Wasn't really clear about that in my original post.
-
no you said it right, i just read it wrong
-
yes, that method still works but EFCN46WW has some strange power limit issues and lenovo enabled additional locks located in advanced bios (which you cant access without a modded/unlocked bios) . 38WW and 45WW are still fine.
to go back to 45ww you can go into bios and enable bios back flash, then from windows you can install the 45ww as you normally would. heres a link for the 45ww bios https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/efcn45ww.exe
im gonna edit the undervolt post you quoted with a picture of which value to edit, the other pictures i no longer have or i cant find yet.
edit: i dont know whats up with image links but i included an imgur link in the guide, that image is really the only one you needLast edited: Mar 24, 2021Andrei Fredes likes this. -
It worked perfectly, went back to bios 45ww and did the steps you listed, very easy to do, thanks!dglt likes this. -
I have successfully upgrade my Legion 5's 120hz display for the fantastic 144hz NV156FHM-NY5 (90€ from aliexpress).
Colors are great, hdr works fine, the brigthness control works, but I saw two little problems:
-It has two stuck pixels that can be seen on a black background up close.
- Although panelook says that it has freesync, in the radeon software app it makes me incompatible. Does anyone know how to fix it? Will this panel have support for gsync?
Thanks a lot. -

It looks like the Legion 7 with the 5900HX and RTX 3080 will actually come out to be around ~$2300.
Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (2021) goes on sale in China today. : GamingLaptops (reddit.com)dglt likes this. -
thats a lot more reasonable than last years model pricing, its probably the only 5900HX laptop that has a chance at running without being crippled
-
GrandesBollas Notebook Evangelist
$2300 is still a lot of money for a disposable laptop. Will have to wait and see if prices come down towards the latter part of the product cycle.
-
cant disagree with that, its why i sold the legion 5 and built a desktop instead which was by no means cheaper up front but being able to upgrade without replacing the whole thing is a nice change
-
That is an incredibly subjective statement. $2,300 is a lot of money.......for a certain subset of society. $2,300 is less than pocket change......for a certain subset of society.
Gaming laptops are by definition a luxury item that anyone that is able to buy them is already in the privileged economic echelon's of society. If the Legion laptop with a 3080 card comes anywhere near $2,300, I would be over the moon ecstatic and couldn't buy it fast enough. I am expecting it to be much closer to $3k doing the conversion from the Singapore website and looking at similar 3080 laptops. It's arguably better than the SCAR 17 which is $2700. Arguably better than the MSI GE76 that is $2700-2800. Better than the Alienware 3080 that sits around that same price. $2k-$2.3k is strictly 3070 territory.
Anyways, it's literally a central part of these companies business to understand value proposition, supply/demand economics, competing products, changing trends etc. Just because you think a gaming laptop is expensive because it is disposable does not make it so. It just means you are on the lower end of the wealth spectrum of the consumers that buy gaming laptops OR you just have a particularly miserly mindset when it comes to this particular consumer good.
Just a Thursday morning rant because reading your "Eeyore-like posts" just got to me lol. We get it, you hate the current state of laptop gaming computers. -
Since when did anyone say that its disposable.
-
GrandesBollas Notebook Evangelist
BGA laptops are disposable. They break. You replace completely. You don't typically replace the motherboard, CPU or GPU. Maybe the SSD. Reapply thermal paste. Etc. BGA laptops are not enthusiast grade and are priced accordingly. $1k for a "disposable" laptop is comparable to $1k I would pay for a smartphone.

I know this is a late reply but I believe I may have found a solution.
I'm in a similar situation on the P15 g1. For this system the PL1 is set at 135W, PL2 90W and Tau 75W which is just ridiculously high, I'm talking 1.35v VID0 high. Granted I've repasted or rather repadded using graphite and it isn't enough. Also due to the uneven heatsink ie the heatpipe itself, liquid metal is a non-starter which is a bummer. However I did notice something that may help you out. Observe "Intelligent Cooling" at work:
If I am in a low power state.... why am I still turbo-ing to nearly 90% of max allowable turbo for the chip? i7-10875H. Also why is my VID more reasonable and the power-limit now equal to what I want but without the frequency cap I saw using Throttlestop. It doesn't make any sense but results are results. The laptop is quiet, still does 90% of what I expected it would and it doesn't constantly bang on the 100C* ceiling when plugged in.
My guess is that an updated firmware will address this. Hopefully my suggestion helps.Last edited: Apr 6, 2021 -
latest update on what is offered in Singapore market from today onwards...
...no configurable options!KING19 likes this. -
Nice but kinda expensive after converting to USD.
I heard rumors that the new Legions will be available here in the US in mid April -
GrandesBollas Notebook Evangelist
I continue to keep my eyes open. Just to get a feel for the price landscape. Which in the US, we know, is about to spike as tax increases kick in. So far, so good and my L5 should carry me through at least 1/18/22. My goal would be to get an L5 upgrade for about the same price I paid ~$1k. I'd be happy going with a 3060.
-
Quite a number of times, buyers in Singapore
will need to apply discount codes to get savings over initial price...
...as well as give and take on hardware configuration differences.
Certainly, due to different costs in shipping as well as custom taxing versus volume,
American market price could usually be more affordable... if buyers opts for lower warranty packages as well.

Thats true but still no word of what the prices will be. I think it will be kinda expensive due to COVID and inflation. A lot of new RTX 30 Series laptops are sold out due to supply issues.
Now im hearing on reddit that the new Legions will be available on the end of April -

I also asked some sales reps at Lenovo and they said the Legion 7 should be out either late April or the first two weeks of May.KING19 likes this. -

Yea
They said the starting prices for the Legion 5 is $769 and the Legion 5 Pro: $999 but the articles are kinda outdated. Its Mid April and still nothing so hopefully we'll hear something by the end of April. Personally im not upgrading anytime soon as the 1660ti is more than enough for me and plus i overclocked it to reach the same performance of a 90w RTX 2060 without the DLSS and Raytracing and temps still hangs around the mid 70s.GrandesBollas likes this. -

I am totally with you. Decent performance at a really good price-point. It has been such a relief to know we have good replacement options.KING19 likes this. -
I'm getting one of these bad boys as soon as I can. Still undecided on if I'm gonna go for R7 5800H or the R9 5900HX thou. I heard comments that the R7 is gonna be well enought capable, but the price difference to the R9 is not very high. Choices... ;-)
-
It wont be much of a difference, The 5800H is more than enough but if you want the extra power then go for it!.

Has the issue of high battery drain on the Legion 7 when Corsair iCue services are enabled ever been fixed?
-
I honestly just uninstalled it. Haven't really missed it as I usually leave it on white anyway. May reinstall and see though

I'd be grateful if you could check. Also, can the 7i charge over USB-C? I can't find a definitive answer on this. -
Alright so no charging over USB-C (which I figured but just tested to no avail but just remember that the new 230W power brick is MUCH smaller than the old one). However, it does appear that the massive drain issue is solved. Played Genshin Impact for an hour and a half yesterday on Quiet mode with lights on and 80% brightness and still had 56% after that. So it does appear that the Corsair iCue battery bug is fixed.saturnotaku likes this.

Interesting because I forgot that my kid uses a Corsair Harpoon mouse for their online learning so I decided to test it with my XPS 17. Got iCue installed (1.6 GB of disk space required, AYFKM?) and saw that my CPU usage was all over the place, spiking between 8 and 15 percent, never dropping below 2.2 GHz. Uninstalled, rebooted, and immediately saw idle performance drop to 1-2 percent usage and a 900 MHz to 1.3 GHz clock speed range. Maybe it's a difference between installing the program separately and it coming baked into the OS. -

It seems the Legion 7 does not come with liquid metal preapplied.
Jarrod'sTech on Twitter: "@PvPXan I asked about that, they said no Legion 7's globally are using liquid metal. It could be possible they were misinformed, but that is what they told me." / Twitter
Presumably, they're doing it this way so that they can get more machines shipped out faster because of the high demand? In any case this is somewhat good news because this means that the preliminary thermals we have seen so far are pretty decent considering the benchmarks have all been done with presumably average/poor nonconductive factory thermal paste. A repaste with liquid metal should bring thermals down pretty significantly.KING19 likes this. -
Hello everyone, a friend of mine is getting a 2060 7i can I know what is the best BIOS and which method to unlock the undervolting? + Can I use the same 120watts 2060 vbios posted earlier (The one that was used on the legion 5i)
Thanks -
saturnotaku Notebook Nobel Laureate
Undervolting is already unlocked on the 7i by enabling XTU interface. Start watching this video at about the 7:15 mark for instructions on how to get into the advanced BIOS where this setting resides.

For some reason, I can only undervolt from the advanced BIOS. It remains greyed out in Throttlestop but shows that it is applied on the side. For some reason there was factory +70mV on the Uncore side which I have no idea why.
Sucks that Throttlestop isn't working because the advanced BIOS undervolt resets after each shut down.

. Ram overclocking has a sizable benefit in more and more games nowadays.
Can you take some pictures of the advanced bios and its options? I'd love to take a look -
Be wary that the new 2021 legions still don’t have a way to get into the advanced BIOS if it even exists.seanwee likes this.

Well that sucks. Back to msi lol.

I was wondering that because I noticed some items that are in the Advanced tab by accessing the advanced BIOS were in the regular Configuration tab.
