Yep, I'm right there with you bro the 2080 MQ was technically within my budget too, so I was willing to pay for it, but once I really looked into the cost-to-performance ratio, I just couldn't justify it paying $600+ for like 5 extra frames in some cases.
Went with the 15" 2070 MQ version instead and I feel good about it. Portable and I doubt that machine will be struggling to play any major titles over the next few years.
I will say, if you attempt to cancel your order with Lenovo after placing it, they will offer to knock an additional $100-200 off your final price, incase that helps sway your decision.

Are there comparisons of the specific 2070 and 2080 MQs of this laptop?

It runs much cooler and quieter when gaming plus it’s much more portable if your on the go.
Even though the AW is a better choice if your looking to get the best bang for your buck I was not impressed with AW when I seen it in person, too big and to gaudy for my tastes.
Buying refurbished laptops are not my thing either unless they are dirt cheap.
Overall I think the Lenovo is a much better laptop while still performing just as good for the most part as the AW. -

To those that own this laptop, can the keyboard do this:
-
Can it fly out a window.....Nope!
Can it be used for music as a equalizer, have no clue either but I hear the software for the keyboard lightning is very extensive. -
I just checked on the status for my order from 2/13, the ship date was 3/20 yesterday, its now 4/30!!! They sent an email on 2/22 that said it would ship within 30 days, now the ship date is 11 weeks from the order date, this is ridiculous. Anyone else having this issue with their custom orders?

On the topic of this laptop, I've had it (15" 2060) for little over a week and it's damn nice coming from a Clevo W350ETQ that's some eight generations old lol.
I can echo most comments of the macro keys being odd and battery life isn't the best, something I haven't heard other people mention is that you can press down on the touchpad to click it, it's only tap and the two buttons, which admittedly isn't really that big of a deal, just something surprising since every Lenovo laptop my work has gotten features a touchpad that clicks.
One thing that really does bug me is the lack of an SD Card reader, there's plenty of room around the chassy for one, and not having it is rather irksome since that's another dongle I need to get.
Does anyone know if a 170W or 135W charger would work for this beast? I bought a cheapo 170w off amazon but it didn't work though I wasn't really expecting it to, just a longshot.
It would be nice to have a smaller power supply I can keep with me on the go since I likely won't be gaming or doing anything too intensive, though I imagine the rapid charge function is linked to the 230w.
As for the pros: it's fast, screen looks great, weighs less than my old laptop while staying cooler, I miss having a numpad but it just take some getting used to in terms of layout.
I bought the LaptopMedia Labs screen profile for this which supposedly helps correct the color output to be more accurate, though there's only so much you can do without calibrating the individual panel itself. I'd say it helps, things look a little warmer and more natural.
The keyboard itself is fairly nice to type on, as usual for Lenovo, though I hate how everyone is getting rid of the context menu button to make room. I use it a lot
The macro keys have so far been useless to me, I'm trying to think of things to use them for but I can't. They're too far for extra buttons while in an FPS, and too close to other buttons to panic mash in other games.
The touchpad is fairly responsive, and the multi touch gestures are nice, and the buttons are a soft click which is nice when trying to be quiet somewhere.
The speakers sound great, albeit they only sound good unless you have the laptop on a flat surface to reflect the sound up to you, if it's on your lap it can be hard to hear things as the sound is pointing away from you. Not a big deal if it's quiet around you, but more of an issue if there's some sort of noise present.
Headphone output sounds decent albeit there is some line noise present when nothing is playing, it's not present when anything is playing, and it gets fairly loud though I've yet to test it with high impedance headphones.
Currently my biggest issue is that I can't get the minidp to output to my monitor. It works fine with other monitors, I've tried other devices with my monitor, I've tried multiple cables including one that's DP1.4 certified, but nothing, my monitor just says no signal, which means it detects a cable is plugged in, but that's as far as it gets.
HDMI works fine, though I was hoping to try and hack freesync onto my monitor since variable refresh rate is quite nice.
Overall I'm quite happy with it and excited to finally play games at full resolution, let alone max settings. Looking forward to what the future holds. -
Yeah! Same here!! what a frak? I'm able to cope with two months delay, but this is not acceptable! I'm canceling order ir will stay away from Lenovo for good!Attached Files:

What did you put in your custom orders anyways, I ordered mine a couple weeks ago and got it within days. -

The only reason I went with laptops is because I have no didcated home office space for desktop.
So since I had extra €€ and was buying this thing to run it for at least 4 years thought will go with gaming laptop that has 4lanes TB3
So my options were very limitedLast edited: Mar 15, 2019 -

Is the 2070 on both versions the maxQ? If so, whats the wattage on it (80w likr most maxQ or 90w like the razer blade) and how far has anyone overclocked it?

A couple days ago mine said it’ll ship on the 27th of March and arrive 2nd April. Ok so after reading these push backs. I check mine. It’s now ship 30th April. Delivered 7th of May.
I had a basic config. No windows. 256gb ssd. 2070.
How can their be a delay in what I’m asking for is besides me. I’d of ordered it barebones if I could and it prob still be couple months.
No point waiting this long. I may wait it out and wait for 9th gen with a discount code and send it back.

Mine got also delayed! Yesterday the shipping was planned for 20th of March and now is 30th of April. No-DOS, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 2060. This is insane!

Im in the US here, I have called Lenovo every week since I ordered and they never give me any information, just keep saying that they will reach out to the manufacturing warehouse to find out why there is a delay and then let me know, they never let me know though

Razer Blade
Aero 15
GS65
Maybe that new Triton 500?
Perhaps I’ll give that a go next if the y740 sells. -

Question about the power usage: both versions come with a 230w power brick but isn't that kinda overkill for an RTX 2060 / 2070MQ? Don't most laptops with these specs come with a 180W? Does that mean they could come out with a bios update and increase the power limit for the GPU?
-
-
-
The RTX cards throttle earlier at 87c (some laptops are very close to this stock)
The heatsink is shared between the CPU and GPU. The 8750h is really hard to tame and pushing more power to the GPU will increase CPU throttling just from heat transfer alone.
I saw this coming as soon as the TDP numbers were released for RTX desktop GPU's. Cramming these into something that can't breathe well meant we will most definitely see a great deal of variation on GPU performance compared to Pascal.
115w variant of the 2070 is a savage little beast for example. -
-
How easy would it be to upgrade the battery in this laptop? Is this even possible?
-
Is there a way to take whatever voltage profile or whatever it is that causes the 8750 in this to run so cool and apply it to other laptops?
-
Personally I don’t see how that can be done but there are more knowledgeable people here that can maybe shed more light on this.
I got to had it to Lenovo they did a very good job on the cooling system on the Y740 and looking at it you can never tell because it’s nothing fancy but gets the job done.
@battousai10k
The Triton 500 was on my list too until I found out how hard it is to upgrade RAM and storage and something simple like repasting the CPU or GPU you literally have to disassemble everything .
Which is a shame because otherwise it looks like a pretty good laptop.Last edited: Mar 15, 2019scarletfever likes this. -
Set the top right two settings to 45 and see how that pans out.
All laptops are different so star there and tweak till you get the desired results.
I have the Aero 15 testing with a 35w and a 45w profile. Works well.
That’s the simple version.
Lenovo has done this a bit better than we can as they allow their CPU to pull strongly when loaded by itself.scarletfever likes this. -
order got pushed back as well....not a good look for lenovo. sigh...may have to look into Acer or getting one of their workstations, definitely not going with the gs65

Lenovo sent me an email yesterday congratulating me on the recent purchase of my y740 and asking me to post a review of it... the y740 that that I ordered on 2/13 and won't be shipping till 4/30... its like they are rubbing it in my face now.

Pretty good review. One piece that confuses me is that the review says there aren’t switchable graphics. But I thought in Lenovo Vantage you could enable nvidia Optimus? Something I’m missing?Last edited: Mar 17, 2019 -

So what's the experience with a 2060 model vs a full 2070 non max Q knowing the performance gaps are not as large as last gen between cards.

Comparison from notebookcheck
https://www.notebookcheck.net/GeFor...Force-RTX-2070-Laptop_9581_9551.247598.0.html
It all depends in which laptops in particular the GPU’s are in because these new RTX cards can vary performance from model to model and in if your running in dual channel or single channel RAM that a lot of new laptops are offered in from the factory.
Take this review of the Legion Y740 15” with RTX 2070MQ
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenov...0H-RTX-2070-Max-Q-Laptop-Review.413926.0.html
Scroll down to the GPU portion of the review, It beats the the MSI GE75 with full RTX 2070 in all gaming benchmarks but the MSI they tested is running on single channel RAM...not exactly a apples to apples comparison but there should be no way a full RTX card should lose to a lower clocked MQ version.
In general from the first link in artificial GPU benchmarks the RTX 2070 has about 20%-30% performance advantage but for gaming not as much maybe 10%-20% on average depending on the game and your configuration.
I general the RTX 2060 performs like last gens GTX 1070 and RTX 2070 like last gens GTX 1080, but gaming performance can vary from model to model.Last edited: Mar 18, 2019 -
Has anyone been able to get more info on the 500 nit screen? In my country it shows up as part of the pre built options but I’m unable to select it when try and customize another entry.
-
Not really , no info about it at all in the USA.
If I had to guess maybe it will be a option when 9th gen Intel CPUs roll out.
What country? Because I would love to have a option for a nice bright screen that does HDR gaming. -

Well, this is end of my Y740 buying saga: Lenovo on my side of the world didn't go into the discount discussions about my 3 months of order delay and just cancelled part of it (laptop and extended warranty) . Oh well, At least I have received mouse pad and legion gaming mouse for 1 buck..
On one hand it's a good thing because I was thorn between rushing and getting MSI GS75, Y740 and waiting for GEN9. This delay helped me to cool my head and think more rational. On a other waiting time is killing me
Will continue monitoring this thread a nd will wait for GEN9. My guess around the autumn time. By that time RTX drivers will be allready polished and games optimised..Last edited: Mar 19, 2019 -
I ordered a 2080 mq and that’s delayed 4 weeks, might just cancel it. Has anyone had their ship date moved up?
-
I'm cancelling my custom-made that have been delayed 3 times and I'll buy a prebuilt from a store here in Sweden. I need 32GB of RAM and I will upgrade it by myself since the prebuilts come with 16GB. So the question is if you have any suggestion for RAMs? I was thinking to go for a 32GB bundle of HyperX, but I don't know if it is compatible.
-
shouldn't really matter which brand you go with.
