Are you guys planning on buying screen protectors? I wanted something to make the screen more matte as opposed to the naked glossy glass. Better for painting.

Anyone know where I might find screen protectors?

If using model with active digitizer, I probably wouldn't. A removable privacy screen, maybe, but not something stuck to the screen, unless I knew it wouldn't affect accuracy. My gut tells me a semi-permanent protector would likely induce inaccuracy, and that seems to be contradictory to the reason for having an active digitizer in the first place.

Without the active digitizer, I'd consider it.

I did not know that. That is unfortunate. If you don't feel like calling, then it'd be worth a try to try the US chat. But no guarantees. Either way, I wouldn't purchase if I couldn't get at least 10% discounted.

Guys who already have a TPY - quick question. Is there a firmware switch to return the function keys to defaulting to their proper F key behaviours? Being a programmer, these keys are used frequently, and without thinking, whereas the special functions for those keys are very seldom used. Thanks for any info could can provide.

Thanks. I chatted with the US sales today and they are unfortunately of no help. I have emailed the web sales team to report the warranty failure, so will have to see where that gets me.

If the Yoga thinkpad supports it Lenovo call this "Hotkey Mode" to enable the basic F1-F12 keys i BIOS page 2. It works on IdeaPad models.

Not sure, but maybe this can help you, if the bios dose not:

Excuse me, i got lost in all the valuable comments, but can someone please clarify, if there are TP Yogas being sold, that do not have the digitizer issue ? And is there anything, a buyer can do to increase the probability of not buying the one with digitizer problem ? E.g. ask reseller for a machine with build date after mid November or some particular configuration ? Thank you

I've been using things with active digitizers since the first tablet PC's back in the XP Tablet Edition days, and I've never used a protector on any of them. I'm currently using a Yoga 2 Pro that I'll be returning now that the Thinkpad Yoga is rearing its head, and I won't get one for that either. I've never had any issues with scratches or marks on my screen, and I've always preferred the better feel of the stylus on the screen itself rather than a film covering it.

I know some people who have used them over the years, and for "average" users like me, I never saw any difference that was noticeable when playing with their tablets, but someone who really needs to use it for more than just scribbling notes possibly would see a bit more of an offset since the tip would be just a little bit farther from the digitizer with a protector, and so any slight offset you get when the pen is held at a bit of an angle could be slightly exaggerated with that bit more distance from the digitizer.

Anyone in here do any serious comparisons with and without screen protectors to see if there's a measurable difference in accuracy?

As far as I've seen, no. The only bios option is to swap the position of the function and control key at the lower left of the keyboard.

In Windows, the Esc key and Fn key put the system into function lock mode until you reboot. That's disappointing and I hope that lenovo gets around to making that a bios settable choice.

I have a surface pro I use for painting. I couldnt feel any difference regarding accuracy in that sense with the protector on.

Now I can say that, for painting, protector is a must. Not sure about the scratches, dont want to find out. But the protector gives it more drag. It actually feels just like paper. Awesome.

So yeah, I'll get one. Accidents might happen and a protector is another layer of protection! haha

I am also interested in adding a screen protector for the TPY. Marks and scratches are one thing but there's also grease, dust and stuffs that always seem to accumulate on the screen. Some of them even need a wet scrubbing to get off completely and I'm not too comfortable introducing fluid directly onto the screen. With a screen protector on, I just simply wet a light cloth and wipe it easily, which is what I have been doing with my reading tablet, works wonderfully.

But yeah, I do feel a bit concerned when it come to the effect that the screen protector may have on the accuracy of the digitiser. I love to paint digitally and this will be my first tablet that has an active digitiser, so I'm not experienced when it comes to the effect that the screen protector may have on the digitiser, if any.

Going by what you said about there aren't any noticeable difference regarding accuracy with the protector on, I'm feeling compelled to add one to the TPY. Can anyone else share their experience on the matter?

I would be very interested in the outdoor visibility of the pen enabled touch screen version (i.e. not the outdoor version) if somebody could comment or test. Apperently the Sony Multiflip 13A is very good although not a specific outdoor version. Thanks /Voz

People, do we have reports on battery life? (Except the guy who said 3 hours) haha

Im looking for info on the i7, 8gb, digitizer one. I was wondering how many hours it could hold using heavy programs, life photoshop, 3ds max or zbrush. Balanced mode on power settings.

Yes there was another post from someone earlier that stated it was a Samsung 840, not the 840 EVO and not the 840 Pro but just the standard 840. It's TLC not MLC and those speeds are correct. I'm thinking of putting the 840 Pro in just to get double the write speeds, then use the one I take out to backup to.

wholly crap! that caught me out. I ordered mine the other week and just looked at my confirmation and it shows 4GB instead of 8GB. I'm going to call them tomorrow but I know they will have to create a new machine order instead of changing the one already in as it will be canceled. Argh..... How cheap and easy would it be to stick 8GB into the machine later?

Has anyone noticed how small the keyboard is? Really frustrating for me, wish they would have fit a full size keyboard even if they had to increase the size a little. The horizontal doesn't seem too far off but the vertical is noticeable. I played with one at Fry's the other day.

Also, anyone have details on the M.2 slot that might be in the machine? Is there one used for cache? Is it setup this way or do we have to add it in? I didn't see details of it.

Yup. Hence the "motherboard" upgrade instead of "memory" upgrade in the configurator.

Maybe they're starting to get a grip on parts. I just ran the configurator and an i7 with 256GB SSD gives me a 12/10 ship date. When I played with it before thanksgiving it was a date towards the end of December that it gave as the estimated shipping date.

I ordered a 4300U, 8G, 7260ac T440s, with my added 840 EVO it will cost $1500. However, I looked at Microsoft Store today and they offer a i7 Thinkpad Yoga at $1360 after tax. (i7-4500U, 8G, 7260bgn, FHD, no pen).
They're very similar in performance(4300u vs 4500u). I'm a college student who carries my laptop a lot, wondering if I should switch to Yoga.

The major trade is smaller screen(12.5 vs 14, 20% smaller, I'll use 100% dpi scale so it really matters), inferior durability(magnesium-aluminium alloy instead of carbon fiber, w/o roll cage), worse thermal(made i7 slower than i5 in extensive usage), slower SSD(840 vs 840 EVO).

However, I get 0.4 lbs lighter and get the convertibility. Saved about $100.

There are also some neglectible tradeoffs, keyboard is kind of smaller, the footprint is still as big(0.5"/4% shorter and 0.2"/2.5% narrower, 0.05/2.5% inch thinner), non up-gradable RAM(8G should befine for a long time), smaller touchpad(100*75 vs 87*67, about 25% smaller in size), 7260bgn(I'll get an AC card later).

I'm really debating. I'm a T420 user but I do want to get a convertible. It's going to be my only machine so I'm kind of picky on that. Also, can anyone please confirm if non-pen FHD is anti-glare or glossy? Would it be usable at 100% scale?

    Thanks for any advice.

I looked and lenovo catalog said "anti-smudge" screen, next to anti-glare screen.

Clearly, it's not the kind of "anti-glare", would this mean it's glossy? it'd be a deal breaker..

It is sort of anti-glare, i.e. when I place it next to Asus touchscreen laptop I have the difference is apparent (although Asus might be actually going for a bathroom mirror effect - it's super glossy), but naturally it's more glossy than a proper matte screen (like on my older non-touch thinkpads or dells)
In fact, when I look closely at the screen it seems like there is a some sort of matte screen protector pre-applied, as there is a thin line at the edges of the screen where it's more glossy. Maybe it's just the way their coating is applied, but I do wonder how it'll hold up to a daily digitizer use... Unfortunately I cannot take a picture as it's already packed up waiting to be picked up/replaced.

Sorry I probably did not make it clear.

The digitizer model is marked as "anti-glare" in the specs. The ones without is merely "anti-smudge". Is your model with digitizer?

I haven't popped my open, but based on the service training vids there is indeed an M.2 slot, however, it looks like this is a SATA only port (as opposed to PCIE) and the available space seems to only allow for shorter (42mm) cards, so if you want to add some storage you are basically stuck with MyDigitalSSD - they are the only ones offering compatible cards right now (as far as I could see) and they max out at 128GB (they did say that 256GB might become available later on).

This is a real bummer, actually, as from the looks of it they could have moved things around a bit to allow for 80mm cards and sticking to SATA connector when they could have easily used PCIE is just plain lame. I guess they have never intended for this to be a real upgrade option, but just a place to stick a 16-32GB cache module for spinning HDD.

SATA m.2's are pretty much a dead end, imho, I doubt we'll see any interesting modules become available in this format, so if you thought about upgrading to something like Samsung XP941 further down the line to hit 1GB/s speeds - I wouldn't count on it.

Thank you, i see. But as i understand it also from the readme.txt file attached to this new firmware, it should apply only to the TP Yogas, which have the digitizer problem, i.e. there are also TP Yogas, which do not come with the digitizer problem from factory and do not need any firmware update.. And as i have read here : Thinkpad Yoga - Digitiser has inaccurate area - Page 4 - Lenovo Community, the firmware did not solve the problem 100% on affected ones. Therefore i would rather buy TP Yoga, which does not have the digitizer problem at all. I am little suspicious, that the problem is not only software, however do not have any evidence for this. Maybe we will find out later, if someone compares the hardware of the two TP Yogas, one with the digitizer problem and one withou the problem.

That's so great, they fix the black hole issue and stop giving deals.

I wouldnt like to lose 200$ in a week! Cause last week a simulated a purchase and the code worked.

If you guys managed to get yourselves another code, PLEASE share it with me!

That is the question ;) If it is so, that there are not two different hardware versions, then these new TP Yogas, which are being sold already with the new firmware installed should also have the area with slight distortion located in the same coordinates as on the "older" TP Yogas, how it has been identified by that guy, who installed the new firmware and still sees not 100% straight lines.. But how come, there were also some TP Yogas sold before the firmware update was released and still they were not affected by the digitizer problem ?

I'm most interested in using it for cache only, so nothing bigger than 32GB. I have a similar setup with a SSD and a smaller chache only one on my desktop computer and I really like it. I wish there was more documentation on how to get the thing all installed and working. Curious how the computer knows it's only for cache and not files and how that all works. I'd have though it would have been just another interface for another internal drive.

I just updated my order to change from 4GB to 8GB. She did have to cancel my old one and create a new one. Interesting note was that she WAS able to add in the WIN 8.1 PRO option manually. She said Lenovo removed the PRO option about a week ago across the entire line of thinkpads. Seems strange as businesses need the PRO option often for the domain requirement. She also kept my original 12% discount since the first order had that on it. phew...... :) ship date of 12/11 now instead of my old order which was 12/9 which originally was 12/3. I also ordered a OneLink dock from BHphoto only to now return it and wait for the OneLink PRO which has the video output options I want.

    Hi Guys!

I have my TPY in use now for about two weeks. My device was also affected by the "black hole" issue. The fix however drastically improved the accuracy in this area.

    I have 2 questions however:

    1. Does somebody else notice "ghosting"/"image retention" on their device? I switched from a DELL Xps12 because it had this issue but now it looks like the lenovo is also affected :(... To check if your device also deals with this issue, simply switch your desktop background color to a dark grey and have a look at a bright website for a few minutes. When I do this, my browser some sort of "burns in" and is still visible on the desktop/screen later after I close the window. Very unsatisfiyng as this was the main reason why i switched from the XPS12 to the TPY in the first place :(

    2. Isn't there some sort of display protection on the screen already? Noticable at the corners or when you have a look at the "circle" around the webcam... (I have the i7 digitizer version with 256gb ssd and 8gb ram).

If you have any questions on my device or especially on the comparison to the xps 12 feel free to ask!

    Cheers

    Guys, confirm this please:

All shipping dates for US order start on 12/11? Meaning actually that none is getting theirs before 12/16?

    Origin Time

    Ship Date 12/06
    Delivery Date 12/13

These are all just estimates so I always take it with a grain of salt. Can be sooner, might be later.
