That's good to hear. It looks like Lenovo had to throw away the X220t/X230t design to improve that.

IBM made a ThinkPad Tablet before: Category:700T - ThinkWiki This was actually the first device ever to carry the ThinkPad name. It was introduced in April 1992.

Being as critical as you are on the new ThinkPads, it seems you don´t see the points where Fujitsu is going in the same direction with the T904 that many people don´t like with ThinkPads:
    - ClickPad instead of a classical TouchPad
    - 1mm keyboard travel - even less than the ThinkPad Yoga, which already has a short-travel keyboard
    - Removal of many buttons under the screen
    - Less ports (no more VGA, one USB port less, combined headphone and mic jack)
    - Removal of the optical drive, which was a unique feature for a Tablet PC
    - A hidden Ethernetport

Legendary? Maybe the T902. The T904 does not seems so legendary if you look closely. The same diection: Thinner, simpler designs.

The T904 still has a bigger and better screen than the ThinkPad Yoga. Lenovo could have used a 13.3" screen if they really wanted to but they decided to keep a smaller screen instead. The T904 also has a user-removable battery.

1080p on a 12.5 inch is already kind of pushing it for my ruined eyes. I can't imagine what 1440p would do. Plus, it's almost guaranteed to be overpriced to a lot of us common folk.

I understand there are those people where something like $2500 or $3000 plus is pretty much nothing in the long run - people like photographers, content creators or indeed anyone who needs their machine to be top-notch at everything they do since it directly influences their paychecks and such.

But a lot more of us don't have that mentality. Half of that is already quite a sum of money to put down on something, especially for me as a poor student. In that case, why would I buy something like the T904 instead of the Yoga, which achieves the same goals I have for the machine at near half the cost?

I have a used T900 - it's nice for taking notes, but I felt it fell short in many other ways. The keyboard wasn't great, the touchpad had a mind of it's own, and it felt like it was built like a Kinder toy, despite the business credentials. Cheap plastic all round, and felt ready to snap off if I held it by the corner. It may be just the age of the machine, but if I paid full price for that computer back when it was new and it was built like that, I'd be pretty pissed off. Not only that, but taking it to university, there was almost always that one person who looks at my computer and says - "I thought Fujitsu only made air conditioners." (Seriously - I heard this three times in a month)

The Yoga I now have doesn't have any of these issues, and the pen accuracy seems about the same as it is on the T900. Fujitsu do make nice devices, like their Q704 and Q584. But again, there's no way I'm paying that much when there's cheaper elsewhere.

I got my replacement unit a few days ago. This is much better in terms of display seam and no scratches either. I have a few questions/comments for you:

    1. Have you installed new synaptics driver (date 14 Jan)? My touchpad don't work too good, especially when using metro apps like store. It's almost impossible to scroll sideways with touchpad. No problems when using the touch screen. Also some inconsistency when using in desktop. I have set 3 finger click as doble click. Sometimes that don't work well with some icons, like control panel. Could be that I just don't press hard enough. But my general impression is that scrolling doesn't work as good as with the first machine and with older drivers. Another example in Apps menu (screenshot below). There's a white box around App. When I scroll sideways, the box moves and the screen moves alongside with the box, not like the actual screen moves. I don't like that box. Do you know how to change that behavior. Scrolling speed also fluctuates, first the speed is normal and starts slowing down, then suddenly speed ups, then slows down again.

    http://i.imgur.com/OBhfbQz.jpg

    2. I've got some odd behavior with sounds. It could be normal, I don't know. I hear a faint click sound before and after some sound, for example windows alert sound. Just go to sound options in control panel and play those notification sounds. I hear it like this: first faint clik, then the actual sound, then click again. This happens with speakers and headphones. Have anyone else experienced this?

    3. In sounds-playback-speaker properties there's an option for 3D headphones. I would recommend disabling that beacause it makes the sound very bad. It was on by default. I also uninstalled the dolby theater utility.

    4. I installed avira antivirus. It makes startup slower than without it or with windows defender. After typing in a password, it usually takes 1-3 seconds to start screen, with avira it takes 5-10 seconds so that's quite significant. I guess Avira doesn't play nicely with Win 8.1 yet.

Is it normal that the digitizer pen tip is wobbly and moves while writing? If it's not, where can I get a new one? It's pretty irritating...

Oh, and is ghosting covered by warranty?

Now 2 kind of 3 Year on site warranty is available for the TPY on the warranty chooser panel. One with accidental and one without but both of them with sealed battery.
Anybody knows what Sealed Battery means?

I agree with you. I updated mine as well and ever since the two finger scroll isn't nearly as good, the old drivers were much better. These ones seem to be very inconsistent.

Cephai - I following the instructions on a forum linked to from this one, that covered the performing of some very detailed calibration, but the outcome of that seemed to be that the feel drivers are incompatible with that calibration. Hence I no longer have the feel driver installed. You seem to say they are not. Can you share how you can do more than the standard 4-point calibration with the feel drivers installed? Thanks. Hi All,

I've just received my TPY and am very smitten with the little fella. My only real gripe is the massive disparity I've found between reported and actual battery life.

I've seen real-world usage reports (Lisa Gade, for one) of 6.5 hrs on the i5 version; balanced power option; 60% brightness; just browsing the web. The best I've been able to achieve (have the same processor) using the same settings and just browsing is 3.5 hrs.

Would anyone be able to shed some light on the possible cause, other than having received a unit with a dodgy battery?

p.s. have run an energy report to check it's not simply a charging issue and it doesn't appear to be: charge capacity = 47060, last full charge = 47060.

btw. If you want to run an energy report yourself and don't know how to: just open a command prompt terminal as administrator, and type the following: powercfg -energy -output c:\energy-report.html then simply navigate to c:\ drive and open the html file named 'energy-report'. Scroll down to section 'Battery:Battery Information' for the relevant stuff.

Doubt it, I think they should just allow us to choose the default option. So always on or always off (what it does now)

That would work for me, it's just gonna take getting used to hitting the key combo etc.

Have anybody seen their TPY wake up from sleep by itself? On a couple of occasions I've found my TPY on in the morning despite the fact that I've put it to sleep last night, so I've done a little digging and found the following in the event log:

The system has returned from a low power state. Wake Source: Device -ACPI Lid

I was blaming it on SmartConnect at first, but it's off and now I've uninstalled it completely including the driver...

    Have anybody seen this?

Good job, folks, very good thread with a lot of information about TPY.

Can you share your experience with OneLink (non-Pro/Pro) dock, specifically with random disconnections of network port - the issue is covered in more details here:
Re: OneLink network port flapping - Lenovo Community

In brief, when TPY is connected to wired LAN via OneLink dock, the OneLink Gigabit LAN adapter disappears and reappears as a device in Device manager and as a result network disconnects and reconnects again - on random intervals. The same behavior occurs with USB but it is not so clearly visible as with network. It seems this issue is common and affects a number of users, myself included, in various geographies starting from USA through Australia and different locations in Europe, so it is hard to believe it's just a faulty batch of TPY and/or OneLink. The support by Lenovo is useless so far and nobody has found a stable solution.

    Thanks.

It lacks a Wacom or N-Trig active digitizer

We are in 2014. If a tablet isn't using either a Wacom or N-Trig active digitizer or something similar , it's useless for some of us.

For reference , my 2008 Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 has an active digitizer.

Every single tablet should have an active digitizer by now.
It's sad to see the majority of consumers dragging down the market since they aren't aware of how much better an active digitizer is.

The ThinkPad Yoga supports the same amount as RAM as my 2008 Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 does, which is 8 GB.

And yes , the RAM is soldered.

I'm used to business class warranty and quality. The Vaio Flip is basically a consumer machine.

The Fujitsu LifeBook T904 seems like a much nicer machine.

I've been having some problems connecting my TPY to an external monitor. For those of you who connect to a monitor through the mini HDM portI, did you have to install any drivers or do anything else aside from "projecting to a second screen"? My TPY is not detecting the monitor and the monitor is not receiving any input via HDMI.

It does not work a hundred percent, so first the current status of the digitizer behavior on my TPY.
In normal applications or Windows-Ink-API enabled ones (those which don’t require the Wacom drivers for pressure sensitivity e.g. One Note) the multi-point calibration (more than 4) is applied, pressure sensitivity naturally works, too.
In Wintab applications (like Photoshop) the advanced calibration is not applied, pressure sensitivity works.
The different calibrations switch, when the different programs gain or lose focus. So when minimizing Photoshop on the desktop the advanced calibration is applied, back in Photoshop it isn’t.
The mapping of the pen-buttons as defined in the Wacom driver setting work regardless of the application in focus.

There was a lot of trial and error involved getting to this kind of hybrid configuration, so I can´t provide an exact recipe for how this was achieved, so here is how I think it should work.

    1. Run multipoint calibration as described here (Don't rename anything in the registry) This will be the calibration that is in effect in the end.
    2. Find the “LinearityData” entry somewhere under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HID\ VID_056A&PID_00EC&Col02\7&13a65cd6&2&0001\Device Parameters] (the stuff in italic may vary)
and export it (select it -> File -> export)
    3. Install the Wacom driver

The Wacom driver apparently creates a new set of registry keys that apply to the digitizer. We need to identify these. If the multipoint calibration is run again, the “LinearityData” entry should now appear under that new registry key. If it is possible to identify the right key without that, step 4 and 5 can be skipped.
On my device the two keys are: (can/should be different for you)
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HID\ VID_056A&PID_00EC&Col02\7&13a65cd6&2&0001\Device Parameters]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HID\ VID_056A&PID_00EC&Col03\7&13a65cd6&2&0002\Device Parameters]

    4. Run multipoint calibration again, the data is discarded, so you might want to call it with less points to save time, don't bother to be super precise.
    5. Find the new “LinearityData” entry and note the exact location (should be different than the one in the saved key (view in text editor))
    6. Install the “LinearityData” saved in step 2 to both locations (edit the exported key (step 2) in text-editor (change path))
    7. Restart system

I'm not sure if both locations a necessary, or if not, which one is. I have it installed the entry to both registry keys and it works described above.
I found it not helpfull to rename anything to "UserLinearityData". If you want to reset your calibration data, you might have to delete these registry values manually.

I hope this works for you, if you choose to try it, please report back on your success.

Haven't seen any yetz probably too new, also it's a business class device so I dou t they will make then sort of cases for it. Ps. Those cases and be a pain regarding heat removal and can also make your device feel unnecessarily cheap :(

Best thing for you to do would be buy a hard shell case similar to those foam material zip cases but one with a hard shell that you could put the laptop in when not using it, bit pointless having a case on a laptop all the time especially when on a desk :p

Also that case wouldn't actually protect your laptop. Mate had one on his MacBook Pro, dropped it and the case just snapped off and the laptop dented.

Where do you get v17.0.12.56? I have 17.0.12.52. If latest drivers not the best, then v60 is not an option.

I was using my TPY today at work about 7 hours and 1 hour in sleep, wlan on and external monitor all the time. I did mostly light work, surfing web, reading. Only little some heavier calculations. Then at home I continued for 3 hours. About 2 hours with external monitor and one hour with TPY display. Light work. I'm pretty happy with the battery life :) My machine is 4500u, 8GB ram and 256GB ssd.

I bought D. Bramante leather case for protection. Highly recommended. Very good quality, I like that case very much:

First day with my TPY (i3 4gb hdd with digitizer). Got it after one day delay by UPS. As you see, it comes in bare box. Unboxing is most boring, it only contains charger and laptop. My charger wasn't even in plastic bag, as it was in one unboxing video. I examined built quality closely and noticed that screw next to digitizer hole is very tight. You can see that on picture below that edges doest align very well :

And then I discovered something funny, on the bottom side one of the screws is missing. So my laptop is lighter than yours :)

Its built in 11.01.2014 and its one of many, as I can see, what they costumely produced in that day always in hurry to satisfy hungry costumers. For me these are tiny problems and I am very happy I dont have problems what mentioned here before like black hole, no sloppy-floppy screen frame or anything like that. I like the texture of surface, keyboard, wacom technology etc. And now I have lot to learn in windows 8 touch system.
