Yep, same problem here. My friend bought two TPY's with two OneLink Pro Docks. One of the two has been used for a week now with the Pro Dock, and he has the same issue with his USB (LAN-port is not being used yet). He hears the sound of the USB being activated/deactivated several times each minute, which can be seen in the system tray (USB-icon appears/disappears each time it gets activated/deactivated). With 'activation/deactivation' I mean the same thing (well, at least that's what I think) which you can manually do with any device in the Device Manager of Windows (Desktop Mode --> right-click on the Start menu icon in the bottom left corner of the Desktop --> Device Manager).
Have been searching for a place where this issue has been reported also, couldn't find it until you just pointed to it in your post. Many thanks, I will also report it over there.

Hey everyone what hard drive migration/cloning software would you recommend? Im going to swap out the drive that comes with the thinkpad yoga with my own once it comes in this Thursday

Haha, darn you and your lightened TPY
As for battery life I'm gonna update my earlier posted settings to turn on adaptive backlight as it saves me a fair amount of battery, gained a good hour to two under web browsing usage

Anyone know if Lenovo has any plans at all to have the digitizer model available at retail stores?
-
Btw it nice to have TPY now, almost all drivers are up to date, so you dont have to waste your time on that and can start enjoying your new device sooner than before (I mean december release). -
No "unknown devices" and only took me about 30 minutes before I was up and running out of the box, compared to the 5 hours or so it usually takes on a new bloated up laptop! -
Let the screen be on desktop for 15 minutes without going to sleep.
Then open a page with light gray or violet. I use Viber (which is installed from Store) and its welcome screen is light violet and ghost effect is very visible on the location of White Windows Logo.
If it's not seen, then Lenovo has solved it & we can ask for LCD replacement.

I just haven't noticed it with my usage, done a few lengthy sessions in microsoft word and not noticed any taskbar ghosting when back on the start screen -

For those who may have wanted to get a good clear look at the OneLink PRO dock, here it is. Mine came in the mail a few days ago.
These are the things the pro version has that the non-pro version doesn't have: 2 additional USB 3.0 Ports at the back, 1 DVI port, 1 full-size display port. They removed the full size hdmi port that the non-pro version had. Everything else is exactly the same. As far as I know, the display port is capable of outputing higher resolutions than 1920x1080 which is the maximum resolution on the non-pro version.
There is a power button that mimics the power button on the TPYoga on the top of the dock, and a kensington lock on the side. The front has 2 USB 3.0 ports, and the one with the battery symbol is always on, meaning you can use it to charge your phone and other devices even when the TPYoga is off or not connected. The bottom has a nice rubber texture which keeps the dock from slipping.
The dock comes with a full power supply that connects directly to the dock itself, so this one can always remain at the office while you can leave the other power adapter in the bag when you are on the road instead of always connecting and disconnecting them when you get home and when you leave.
Most people will probably be perfectly fine with the non-pro version. If I could turn back time, I probably would of went for it to save the $60, but I'm still happy with my purchase. When I actually get to try it with the TPYoga, I'll let you know what I discover.

Finally, it is potentially important to know that users of both the standard OneLink dock and the OneLink Pro docks are experiencing problems with periodic and spontaneous disconnects on the docks. The problem is apparently worse if you're trying to use the Ethernet port on the dock. I have experienced the disconnects (you hear the disconnect sound that Windows 8.1 plays) but it seems to be so brief that my external monitor display is not affected nor are any of my other peripherals (mouse, keyboard - also I am using a wireless Internet connection rather than the Ethernet port). I tried playing a video on an external hard drive connected to the dock, however, and when a disconnect occurred I did lose video playback and have to start the video again.
Here is the official thread on the dock issue over at the Lenovo forums. Our buddy Mark at Lenovo has acknowledged the issue but hasn't provided any further information since.
Anyways just FYI for everybody. I'm curious to hear what soul347's experience with the Pro dock is. TPY has been pretty great so far, but perhaps they have a few improvements to make in the next iteration (if there is one). I also finally understand why people were complaining that there's no DisplayPort directly off the machine.soul347 likes this. -
Just checked the Lenovo USA store, no more i7's?
Hopefully this is a glitch and they're finally putting in the HDD and NFC. -
To be pedantic: While you can output 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 from the HDMI port, it's technically outputting DVI over a just-happens-to-be-HDMI-shaped plug, possibly along with out-of-spec audio. The only difference you'd ever notice in practice is that if you had a device that could pick up HDMI audio, and that device stuck rigidly to the HDMI specifications, then it would either reject the signal entirely or fail to pick up the audio (treating the signal as pure DVI). This is unlikely to be something you'll ever encounter outside of plugging a 2560x1440 or 2560zx1600 display into an AV receiver, which is something you're never likely to do. 3840x2160 is even trickier. It may be HDMI compliant when output at 30Hz, but at higher refresh rates it will be out-of-spec for HDMI 1.4, so will technically be DVI with non-spec audio carried alongside it. Receiving devices may accept and use the out-of-spec signal, or may not.

My experience are that it not depends on brightness. It's even worse if i turn brightness down. In most cases the ghosting will appear after some weeks and not out of the box. I noticed it first from the Windows logo in the taskbar. Choose the grey standard background color from Windows 8.1 and then just press Control-Alt-Delete. After the first weeks i just saw the logo. Now i can see nearly everything after 3-4 minutes static desktop. Maybe t's just a really faulty panel and not the standart process. Let's hope! -
EDIT: I see that VortexJones has already mentioned the topic on the flapping ports, didn't see that before my posting. Ah well, better twice than neversoul347 likes this. -

Btw. That grey color flicker really goes away when power saving setting is disabled from Intel graphics control panel. -

Select Monitor in the tree-view on the right.
the line "Monitor Name (Manuf):" should be the ID.
These are the properties of my display (I do experience ghosting):

Monitor Hardware ID: Monitor\LEN40E4

... have to send my yoga in for repair. My mini hdmi port doesn't work >.< i tested 2 different cables on 3 different devices with no success. I made a recovery and used lenovo and intel drivers. I even made a format c with a clean install and had no success. Looks like my unit has a defect

What an amazing thread--I'm grateful for all of you who are sharing your knowledge like this. It's really helpful to me as I try to determine whether or not to get this laptop.
Right now the Lenovo US site doesn't offer any 8GB configurations (they say it's temporarily unavailable). Since I only plan on using MS Office (taking notes with pen, word processing, database stuff, etc.) and not doing anything memory intensive like video editing, I'm wondering how important it would be to have 8GB RAM. Do you think I can get away with only getting 4 GB, or do you think I'll find myself regretting not having the extra memory in a few years? -
Do any owners have any input on this article here:
Review Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga Convertible - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
Specifically the "System Performance" section talking about throttling? I'm looking to do some programming and would benefit from the i7 but don't want to pony up the extra money if it's just going to be throttled any time it ramps up.
Does anyone know if there is any difference in the heatsink for the i7? My guess is no, at least from the service videos.
Edit: so it seems lenovo removed the i7 from the website... -

My use case sounds similar to yours. I am a heavy Office user (word, powerpoint, excel, one note, outlook). I also watch hd videos, do web browsing, run various metro apps, etc. Now the reason why I finally just settled with 4GB of RAM is because after several tests I realized that for me, 8GB was simply overkill and I'd never really be able to utilize it. In fact I doubt the majority of us will need more than 4GB of RAM even for future proofing if your use case doesn't change. On my Surface Pro which has 4gb of ram, I tried opening every single application I currently use, while watching videos and while having several metro apps open (just to simulate my worst case multi-tasking scenario), and even then my performance monitor showed that I was only utilizing 60-75% of my RAM at most with plenty to spare. What that basically showed me was that even if I tried, I wouldn't be able to use all 4GB of RAM, much less 8GB. So I went ahead with the 4GB and never regretted it. My Surface Pro 1 runs like a champ and has never given me problems in terms of performance for the year that I've had it, so I expect my ThinkPad Yoga to run even better since it will have a new processor and I am putting a better SSD with a bigger capacity and faster speeds. Years from now, operating systems will be just as efficient if not more on managing resources, so you won't have to worry about suddenly needing 8GB of RAM unless you start wanting to do heavy and sophisticated photoshop/video editing work. I say get the 4GB and you'll be more than safe -

Sorry, double post.

Select the i5-4300U CPU option. When that CPU is selected, under "Graphics", there will be a $0 "upgrade" to what looks like an identical Intel HD Graphics 4400 spec. If you select that, your memory will be changed to 8GB.
I wish I knew about the trick prior to me ordering an i7. I might have saved myself some money and stayed with an i5. -
Hey guys I was wondering if any of you faced problems with shipping your thinkpad yoga through the winter? Here in Canada we've been having an unusually cold winter (-20 degrees Celsius/-4 Fahrenheit). Could this create any potential risk or damage? Do you know if UPS trucks have any heating?

Hi, I join this huge discussion as a potential buyer in order to ask for some feedbacks from the owners of the TPY. In fact after hours spent through this pages I'm a bit confused/curious about the following:
1. Is the image retention / ghosting a serious issue? I mean, is it noticeable even during regular use or just with a grey screen test? I think that a video that clearly shows the problem might be very useful for potential buyer, is that too much to ask?
2. The black hole digitizer issue is completely solved or is it still present but less "visible"?
3. The overall accuracy of the digitizer is good enough for precise note-taking?
4. The expected battery life for the i7 model is always around 6-7 hrs?
5. What about the noise level of the unit? (just because I've heard a lot of horrible issues about fan control / high pinch noise both in Dell XPS and Sony multiflip units)
I'm sorry probably I've asked a lot of questions that were already answered in previous posts but a 230-pages thread is a bit difficult to consult so please, forgive me!
Thank you! -
Is this the correct thread for the Yoga Pro 2? I assume it is since I didn't see any other threads. Anyway I just got it, and I am happy except for scrolling with the trackpad. When it works, it works great, but often it does nothing. When I try to scroll, I get a square that balloons up. what's up with that?
-
And thanks, Soul 347 for your input--it was really helpful. I was just about to pull the trigger and get the 4 GB until I learned about how to get the 8 GB with the i5-4300. I figured on the off chance that I do find myself doing something more memory-intensive in the future, it's worth the additional cost (which is less than if I had gone with the i7 and 8 GB). -

Hi,
I have a strange and annoying issue when my TPY when wakes up from sleep mode. If it is in sleep mode for around 4-5 hours or more, after waking up, all the fonts in windows Start Menu becomes smaller. This font change would also be seen in Windows Log On Menu and all other menus specific for windows 8 such as Windows 8 Charms Bar.
My System:
Thinkpad Yoga i7, 8GB RAM, Intel 4400 HD.
Resolution set is at Default on 1920x1080.
Scaling at 150%
Windows 8.1 Pro
The issue will result in very tiny fonts that is very annoying. For example I will have 6 rows of tiles in my start menu.
As I look at display settings, I see all the values are unchanged.
I have all the latest drivers from Lenovo and Windows 8.1 Pro is also updated.
A restart will solve the problem and all the font sizes will come back to normal. But this is very annoying because I need to restart each time when it wakes up from a long sleep.
I appreciate it to know if anyone experienced the same issue or any comments on this.
Thanks

It appears that when your TPY goes into a long sleep, for whatever strange reason gets confused on what settings to have to properly scale the tiles on the start screen. You might want to try manually setting the amount of rows that you want to appear on the start screen which will over ride any automatic settings the computer will set for itself. Check out how to do this here: Change the Default Number of Rows of Tiles on the Windows 8 UI (Metro) Screen
At your own risk of course because it involves changing the registry. If you try it and it solves the problem, let me knowamirvf likes this. -
The solution you mentioned results is customized number of rows only in start menu, but the fonts are still tiny.

DPI scaling is changed after resuming from sleep state (S3) in Windows 8.1
The problem seems to have gone away for me after I disabled wake timers in power options and uninstalled smart connect. -
Just a heads up they added a new configuration on the U.S/Canada lenovo website for the TPY. This includes:
-Adds back both i7 options with the i5 4300 option. Still no option to get the 4200u with 8GB
-All settings come with 8GB of RAM
-Option for 180GB SSD. Still no HDD options
-2 Full HD options: Pen and Touch only
*Also notice that this new configuration takes significantly longer to ship than the first option
Everything else remains the same. I think they did this to fix the strange glitch where you could formerly get the i5 4300u, select another Intel HD 4400 with the 8GB of RAM.
On other news, I should be getting my TPY today. It has gone through a very crazy journey and has traveled all over the place, which is strange because when they shipped my one link pro dock it was straight from China to Canada in 4 business days using UPS Standard shipping, whereas my TPY has taken 5 business days and has stopped at around 7-8 different out of the way places using UPS Worldwide Expedited, which doesn't seem to make sense to me.

1. What do you mean by Wake Timers? Is it the same as Sleep Timers? How did you disable it?
2. What's smart connect?
Thanks again.
