yeah, 6300+ is about what what my yeah and a half old m4400 gets...thought it would be much higher than that. The m6500 order that I cancelled gets around 13000 in 3dmark06....lot of money though....don't know what I'm gonna order......maybe this one but they killed it removing the FHD screen w/o Multitouch...

Also is the keyboard a back lit one? -
any new about FHD+multi touch
-
Is there any way to lower the sensitivity of the harddrive fall sensor? I have the w510 on my lap and if I so much as change how I'm sitting too fast the harddrive parks for a few seconds.
Edit: Or if I move at all. -

Your m4400 sounds like its res is 1280x800 when done in 3d 06 cos i remember two lots of scores on the m4400 thread where on stock clocks it achieved 5800+ so u got an over clock of about 500+ which sounds about right.
6300+ is not that bad tho but i hoped for 7000+, but if u have the lower res display model notebook you will literally achieve this in stock clocks.
so yes its performance is around what i predicted on a thread i made on the 8540w.
Just waiting to see the 1800m now. ipredicted the same perfomance as the 9700 GTs/ fx 2700m.
Just waiting to see now. -
What 3dmark06 does the laptop get on battery mode? Just curious.
-
Also, how long do you think I'd have to wait to get one with FHD without multi-touch? How much worse is the "HD+" screen? I know it is lower resolution but is it still a good display?
-
-
I think you ordered a day before me, so maybe you made the first batch and I just missed it.
Best of luck.
I made the decision to stick with the W510 if they can make the 3/3 date. Not sure I'll accept another delay. I can and do order just-in-time manufactured servers faster than this.
I had some of the same troubles with Dell, so maybe it is an industry thing but that doesn't make it OK. I feel really bad for the non-multi FHD people. Their situation is pittiful. -
Do I need DVD-Rs or CD-Rs for creating the rescuse & recovery and driver backup discs? How many of each?
-
Is the difference between the 1440 x 900 display and the non-multitouch 1920 x 1080 display very noticeable? How much extra cost was that FHD over the HD+? I would like to order a W510. Is it worthwhile to wait for the FHD screen, or is the 1440 x 900 a good, crisp, display?
-
I would wait for the screens to come in, heck if the resolution doesn't fill your need category you're probably better off going with a T410 series with the 1440 display. -
is there way to use it for mortals? im no longer that interested but still curious.
-
-
Also, odd glitch in Word 2007 is making me feel like Soulja Boy. Twice I've typed "you", and it came out first as "yooou" and the second time as "youuu". -
So how many people commenting in this thread actually have a W510? Not many from what I can tell.

Just curious, as I've never owned a Lenovo. Is the DVD writer easily removable? I read earlier some talk about it being interchangeable with a special bay that allows addition of a second hard drive (i.e. SSD). Also, does Lenovo come out with upgrades to their optical drives? For example, in a year, when the existing drive is slow, or possibly Blu-Ray drives drop in prices, is there a good chance that Lenovo will make one that can go in the same bay as the existing one?
-
I have a question to all SSD gurus on this thread, can you guys tell me what brand of SSD drive is worthy considering regarding its reliability/speed?
from what i know,
Intel had firmware problems in the past and samsung had transfer speed problems so whos left?
I think this is a generally useful question for every one right now as its an almost all of the w510 owners future choice (unless they only do word processing and play minesweeper on their beasts) especially knowing that w510 doesn't suffer the T61p limitations in this area. -
you can hav battery instead of the dvd-drive and hdd instead of all that be it normal or SSD one. -
-
-
So you have a choice. Go with the higher resolution FDH and step it down to a lower resolution or increase the DPI. Or get the HD+.
Guess it really depends on how much you use the screen versus an external monitor. -
-
But I can only really type on one laptop at a time...
For all y'all who actually DO have yours, are you loving the FHD screen or what?! -
-
Keep in mind that some drives come with the sensor protection built in to the drive itself. I'm not sure how to control the sensitivity in that case. -
Two questions:
1) I just called Lenovo and the non-multitouch FHD screen isn't likely going to be available for another month. Is that screen worth the wait over the HD+?
2)What wireless adapter do you recommend...the Intel 6300 with the 450 mbps max, or the the 6250 with WIMAX capability?
I just shipped my Envy 15 back to HP today...now ready to order a W510...as soon as I know which one. -
Actually, if if I get the m6500 17 incher, FHD will be the res cause I think it fits that size better. Just my opinion.
But actaully, resolution aside (which is perfect for me), I want to know if the screen is good, bright, clear and unformly lighted...another guy on here with this screen says he's sending it back because of the way it looks....that spooked me away from w510
EDIT: the guy complaining of the crap FD+ screen is a T510 owner that's sending it back, but I assume they are the same screens. -
Can you order a notebook from Lenovo with Adobe Acrobat? I don't see it listed under software.
-
(at the car shop) excuse me me does a pair of leather gloves come with this Ferrari no/!?! then I'm not buying it, "i need a toilet"...

You will find in general that wide gamut monitors display much more vibrant colors than the srgb workspace because the brightest red in the wide gamut workspace is much further from the brightest red in the srgb workspace.
There is nothing you can do about it, it's the nature of a wide gamut monitor in a world where everyone is using srgb to design (not to mention most everything you run is not a color managed app, but that's a different story).
People think they are getting some cool monitor that can display billions more colors, but it's just not how it works. There are still only 8 bits of color per channel.
So your DVDs, websites etc...will look weird. You should calibrate your monitor and sometimes it can reign it in a little if your default profile is off, but overall it will look the same.
The other interesting fact is that most (not all) laptop monitors are only 6 bit, so for every color above about 252K, the colors are dithered anyway. It would be interesting to find out if the 510 is an 8 bit display. I called Lenovo and no one would/could help me answer that.
*I want to clarify that, there are indeed more colors possible in a wide gamut, but you are limited by an 8 bit (per color channel) display. If you were working with say 10 bits per channel you could address more of those colors.* -
