When I flew from Beijing to Detroit I landed an hour before I departed...so yeah, the time difference can really mess with your head.

Enhanced with FHD Multi-Touch.
My order has been officially cancled -
do you plan to buy it again? -
Nope. Put in an order for the new Sony Z.

Well, today when I check my status on my order page I get the standard headers and footers on the page, but the body only says this:
They must know I am going to cancel today so they are throwing hurdles in my way to hopefully avoid the inevitable... haha
The handling of all of this by them has really soured me on their support after, er... before the sale. I am just in awe over all of this. -
No Date in my Est. Ship Date
I just checked my order status, my original estimate date (3/16/2010) has simply gone. Nothing there. Anyone else? -
June, but you could always go get the beta and run it now. I have been for about two months and the only heartburn I've had so far is the Outlook "could not parse command" issue using IMAP.
-
-
If you see it and haven't canceled yet, might be that the site is having problems. Wouldn't be the first time. -
Canceled and RMA'd all of my peripherals...
Prior to canceling (after I had said it a few times) Ahmed was giving me the standard boilerplate after seeing my purchase price plus the Slice and the HDD caddy. He tried throwing me a lateral 2-3 times before I had to get stern with him. I know he is doing his job, but you can't argue with "I needed it LAST month, that's why I purchased it last month!"
He saw all of the delays and the compensation request and approval, and knew there was nothing he could do to convince me. So he processed it all and the OOPS man will be here to pick up the misc parts, hopefully by Monday.
It's been real folks, and I will be lurking here from time to time to see when / if you get your shipments. I will be anxious to see when they have a surplus, or at least a reasonable supply on hand, I will probly be back...
-Joseph -
just kidding... yeah im surprised that I got my machines prior to yours even though some of you ordered them earlier than me in some cases.
-
looks like FHD without Multitouch is back on the site
-

They keep telling me "we should have a status next week" for the past 3 weeks now.. one more time next week and i'm gone.

Hi!
First I am new here so if I mess something up - feel free to correct me. Also I am not a native english speaker so please excuse my spelling and grammar in advance
I just ordered a W510 for a really good price (that argument is only valid in Austria ... 1450 vs. 1800). Now I am eager to know if anyone could tell me about the temperatures of the GPU/CPU during really high profile load. Like prime95, Furmark and/or gaming.
I read a german review which was quite positive about the W510 except that it gets rather hot while stress testing. Since undervolting is not an option on a i7 mobile CPU I would be happy if someone could post some real live values. After all I heard so far Thinkpads are normally quiet + cool so I just wondered. I guess the difference between 720QM and 820QM won't be as big since both have a TDP of 45W.
Kind regards

I love Thinkpads. I'm typing this from my 7-yr-old T40, but I'm starting to not love Lenovo. -

I can certainly agree with the "Love my Thinkpad, Hate Lenovo".
I just shipped back the Ultrabay Slim I bought, and cancelled after it didn't ship for 3 weeks. It shipped 2 days after I submitted my cancellation request.
I also just shipped back my W510 for warranty work. They sent a technician after 2 weeks (motherboard was out of stock), but the motherboard didn't fix the issue (electronic chirp from CPU area that's just the right frequency to give me headaches and drive me insane). Even though I have an at home warranty, and called in the request for repair 12 days after I received it, I'm apparently outside my return window now, even though I called in the complaint within the window. It's just as well, as I know I have a good panel with no dead pixels or anything...I don't like playing the panel lottery.
Hopefully with all the things Lenovo has screwed up, and the fact the technician managed to break a tab while removing the palmrest, they'll honor my request to swap out the palmrest with the color calibrator kind. I can dream, right? isn't going to hit the fan unless they don't have it back to me in time for me to be out of town next Saturday.
In lighter news, I'm currently trading a tablet for a Thinkpad X201. Looking forward to the new system to complement the W510. -
Shoddy nonsense is what they expect us to deal with?
I have owned every T Series since the T20 right up to the T60p... Also many "A" Series starting with the 22p, 30 & 31p, I currently have an IBM Z Series sitting next to, my thus far trusty, Sony "F". Even owned a few "pre alpha-numerics" like the IBM 300 and the 600 series! So when I say that I am speaking from experience, I can't make it any clearer...
IBM was bad with dealing in the PC Industry hence their sell-off to these yahoos... but FWIW, I feel IBM was just too ambitious for the market. Their CS was always great and I never experienced flap like this from IBM.
I sure hope that the company formerly known as IBM takes our jumping ship as a sign of needing to improve customer relations. An email would have been nice each time they postponed my order, or something like that. Nothing worse than being postponed, except for lack of communication as to why.
and yes... "Love my Thinkpad, Hate The Novo" -

so far i have tested playing BF2 AIX, CSS steam 2 hours (enough to heat it)
video editing with heavy loads and it doesn't really make it hot as dell for example (would melt probably) its not bad for such power house, though I hate that I got one laptop with pinky screen and red trails. -
-
I have not been able to figure out how to get the computer to go into Turbo Boost on battery. I change the BIOS setting to Maximum Performance and I am running the Maximum Performance setting in Power Manager. How do I set it to get the full capability of the CPU on battery.
As far as I can see the BIOS setting does not matter. The Windows Power Manager settings seem to override the BIOS settings. -
Evil did you have any light bleeding on your panel?pink tint?
and my board/cpu also whines a bit (it didn't in the beginning)
keyboard is a bit soft after my x60s and does miss the keys when you type fast. which is now known issue by now.
im in UK and they asked me to send it to ANOVO for a fix I hate ANOVO they can ruin anything for nothing some monkeys work there 2 years ago they turned brand new machine into scrap and it took them 3 weeks plus when it came back it was DOA.

They say they liked the (FHD) screen. Viewing angles not bad, color very good, brightness very good (even/high), contrast very good. -

Lenovo claims to know nothing about the CPU whine...I don't understand how that can be possible. -
whine is there its intermittent but its there alright. its like a squeak from a micro mouse (not input one the real one) but I must admit a dell laptop I once had was way beyound tolerance and could drive you insane 100%
I fixed it by changing the memory from their cheap to something more mainstream and that reduced it its possible that its related to high voltage leaks. I know .. but hight voltage leaks do produce such sounds remembering the old days when tv's were using lamp transistors? well I remember they had same sound when youd fire them up. -
I recieved my W510 on 3/3/2010 and love it so much. i own the T60P and the built quality of the W510 are way better than T60P. I dont own and other thinkpad besides T60P but the Architecture studio in my school has two T42, few T61 and many W500 user. Everyone admit that W510 is the BEST. The screen that i had is the HD+ (FRU # 42T0763) built by AU Optronics. I have never own a Flexview or Dreamcolor before so i am very satisfy with it. About the ghosting image, it starts to show ghost image once i Lower the brightness to 12 (15max). Its fine with me since 13 is comfortable to my eye. About the CPU whine, i can barely hear it once the laptop is running by battery. I have to put my ear right on top of the right speaker to notice it. Oherwise you wont notice it since the fan's noise covered it. The CPU Whine are more noticeable on my T60P and my Fujitsu. I believe my W510 will out last my T60P(fan starting to fail).
By the way, the keyboard are super. I had the (FRU # 45N2071) Keyboard and some previous post complain about this Keyboard (FRU # 45N2071). They must have fixed the problem.
Cheers -
anyone know if the 880M graphic card is a MXM card? thinking of flashing it to 330M GT speeds...hehehe...
-
It isn't a MXM. It's integrated on the main board. Check page 135 in the hardware maintenance manual. This isn't to say it can't be done, just a really, really, REALLY bad idea.

This owner's thread is for discussion of the W510 and collecting pertinent, useful information. Please stay on topic and avoid any pointless inflammatory posts that don't contribute anything, or the thread will be closed. If you want to bash Lenovo, do so elsewhere - I had to delete several posts.
Thank you. -
EDITED: I agree with Utopian3 about Tyrell.... but nevermind, since MidnightSun took out both Tyrell's post and Utopian's reply. Thank you MidnightSun.
On-topic: Can't wait for my W510 to arrive. Looking forward to that FHD screen. My order went through CDW for less than lenovo.com's price. -

so if i understand correctly I didn't contribute anything..here
learn and forget whom you learned it from... and then claim yourself a guru
I can say only one thing when I bought faulty ASUS elite laptop once and while others just been wasting their time and money getting RMAs I have managed to get refund instead, while the admin gave me infraction for replying to a guy who said I should be happy taking another lower spec model as a replacement that was offered to me after 6 month or repairs!!! and that I should keep my mouth shut and be happy. I have decided to reply by saying you should buy this laptop of me and get the replacement you are asking me to get instead of refund or exact model replacement.
so while every1 was saying I'm not going to get refund for proven faulty asus V1s (thers whole thread about their quality) laptop I have managed to do so took me 1 year. but until then I was considered heretic since some didn't want to accept that they have been coned by ASUS with that particular model. now I'm not implying that Lenovo is the same but I don't like those who promote things they didn't handle themselves and describing them with bad English that's also not INFORMATIVE. at least I have given links and ideas and have one W510 in fully working order without any problems so its unfair to just say I'm bashing Lenovo I was just digging for solutions to the problems that inevitably happen to all high end machines especially the once that you have to wait for months to get -

Just found something interesting about lcd shortages :
http://www.thinkpads.com/2010/03/06/chinese-labor-shortage-leading-to-lcd-shortage/
My guess is that its related. -
Maybe that's some kind of formal trick to avoid legal problems later on with disgruntled customers waiting for months for paid merchandise?
-
-
Maybe it is, who knows? i placed my order on 02/19/10 and i still havent got a shipping estimate yet
-
-
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/alerts/alt051.shtm -
Did anyone who's still waiting for shipping notification actually have their credit card charged? -
-
they charged and held money for 2 weeks then said we didnt have it and returned money ,but in 24h they charged again as they got the stock!but didn't notify, now I saw it again on the website and bought it knowing that they returned money, again they held 2x payment for 4weeks total. please explain that
they need to employ Germans everything will be in time only then. -
Never heard of this in the US and didn't happen to me on the two Lenovos I ordered or any of the accessories.
-
If it helps anyone here, CDW indicated a shipment arriving to them on the 10th, and I hope that batch is big enough to fill my order with them. I ordered the FHD screen. It does seem like the shipments are getting out.
I think it's obvious that Lenovo underestimated interest in their W510 model, and would rather under-shoot than over-shoot the target #'s because you don't want to be sitting on an overstock of hardware in a recession.
