Just a quick update... I called UPS (1-800-782-7892) and had them track the package and they told me it cleared customs and is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.

Hmmm..... I just called as well and the lady told me it is scheduled to be delivered "pending normal custom clearance." Mine was also a 9:51am 4/10/2011 Machine....

 

Now you got me doubting the UPS guy I talked to since there is no update on the website.. is it cleared or not!! haha..

well.. my mini-dock cleared customs Monday at around 2pm and was delivered next day.. so fingers crossed that we'll see some movement on the UPS website by mid-afternoon...

Has anyone in the UK received even an estimated shipping date yet? I'm still at the 1-2 weeks stage (placed order on the 13th). I phoned up and got the same reply from customer service too.

Would be interesting to hear when machines are likely to start arriving in the UK.

Aargh! This is killing me - I was supposed to ship tomorrow (4/20/2011), and now I log in and see this:

I call, and they assure me, "Yes, you are confirmed and will ship out any time this week of 4/20". Ugh. This is after a failed IdeaPad order, that, after missing the ship date, I called and was told, essentially, it might never ship.

Any ideas if they will really ship it this week?

What are the specs of your order? I ordered on the 8th, and am in shipping limbo. Estimated ship date 4/20/2011. My 2nd call, I was told that they are putting me on a priority list to actually ship, maybe, this week, maybe next week. Maybe. Not a lot of information going through that call center.

Mine was a pretty bone stock machine - HD+ screen, no sensors, stock HD - what had to be customized? I can only think the HD+ screens are coming from Japan.... <sigh>

Update: The sales folks, again, seem to have access to the best information. My last order, the (Texas?) woman could see that my IdeaPad RapidDrive would, essentially, never ship since it was from Japan. I called in again, and the agent could see there was a constraint on my order, but couldn't see what part it was. She promised to get back to me some time today.

 

I ordered on the 11th from UK reseller. Haven't heard anything yet - and doubt I will anytime this week.

 

Well, I ordered min on 4/16, had a ship date of 5/11. Called today to find out why this will take so long, and was told that it could actually be later, they just don't know. This kind of service is simply ludicrous, when I spend $2k I expect fast and accurate shipping, not a month away. Needless to say I cancelled the order. Shame on you Lenovo for such crap.

I ordered on 4/8 and found out today (4/20) that my w520 is delayed.

I called and the only explanation I got was that it was due to an internal component. Really disappointing. I expected this from Dell not Lenovo.

 

what did you order? My main components are:
HD+, 320GB, 4GB (1 dimm), Quadro 1000.. and that's it. Pretty stock machine. I'm wagering it's the screen... can't be hard to find drives, memory, or video cards, can it?

Heck, maybe it's the modem or something silly. Ugh.

Rumor has it that the color sensor is causing delays on some machines but you didn't get that part. If you figure it out let me know. I'll have my machine in about 13 hours.

 

I ordered the 2820QM, 4GB, Quadro 10000, 500GB, 1080P, WWAN GOBI?, Intel 3x3 Advanced,Ultrabay for hard drive, Minidock, color sensor, 4yr onsite warranty....

That's about it. I hate when I call and they can't tell me what component is missing. Maybe it's something that I can re-configure ??

They said it might not ship until May 11th - a whole month later.

I doubt I would've ordered knowing that.

 

Got mine and I'm really pleased with what I saw in a 30 minutes test.
The keyboard is great, so is the general build, and it's definitely lighter than a W510.
Lowest measured power consumption: 8W!
But... it jumps way to easily to ~25-35W on starting light apps(cpu was previously set to low dynamic performance). Need to check it home with a power measuring tool to see whether it really is like that, because I don't have a good feeling.

Anyway, I'm not disappointed, more to come.

For the lucky SOB's who have received your machines - congrats.

For us other slobs, apparently there is a part, a connector that is on the motherboard, that is holding up all new machines. 5/11...scratch that.. 5/15 is the new revised date for when orders will go out.

I escalated through the sales folks, and the manager there is looking to see if he can source a machine "in my area", though I'm not sure if that means here's going to CDW's website and say, "You can order something like it from them for $2k". Egad I hope not.

 

Request for info

I just got off the phone with a very helpful manager at Lenovo (C. Young), who gave me the scoop on what is delaying W520 (and T520, and possibly T420s) orders. This is apparently a "Hirose Connector - Plannar Component" that is exclusive to Northern Japan, and not in supply. Estimated delivery is 5/16 and climbing.

Request: Is there anyone who ordered after April 8th, who received their order (or it is in transit) send me your order number (Preferably as a PM) I don't think there are any security implications, and if there are, please don't. Mr. Young would like to check into the shipping queue process a bit.

Ordered a W520 on 4/12/11.
QuadCore 2.30ghz, 8gb RAM, Nvidia Quadro 1000, Centrino N+ WiFi.

It was suppose to ship yesterday. Today they changed it to 5/12/11.
I hope they realized that since i ordered it as a student that i might need it, for, oh i dont know...SCHOOL.

So disappointed.

 

I pulled the trigger on this yesterday, came out to $1091.30 before taxes. Estimated shipping date is May 4, 2011. Let's hope it gets shipped by then!
