Lenovo W520 SHIPPING INFO

I also had my order delayed due to the shortage of parts from northern Japan. My order was delayed from 4/21 to 5/13 but I just checked today and the new estimated ship date is 5/4. Hopefully, Lenovo has found a solution to the shortage.

 

Even though the computer is assembled in China, that doesn't mean every part is manufactured in China. Consider the iPad 2. They are assembled in China as well but they also use parts that are from Japan and it was all over the news that the disasters that struck Japan would further create supply problems and damage their earnings. I called Lenovo and received the exact same response and found it believable. From my understanding, my order was ready to go except for this one part. No matter how small the part, Lenovo won't be able to ship out their laptops unless they have all the parts. How upset would you be if you received your laptop and it was missing something small like a few screws off the bottom? I don't think you'd care if they shipped your laptop a few weeks early if it was missing a few items.

It sucks but I believe the delays that people are experiencing are out of Lenovo's control.

 

how others can build not lenovo... I know what happen in Japan and it's out of control. I agree.

This is going on from IBM days & I still remember to get T41 I had to wait something like 3-4 weeks (or even more forgot it was year 2000). So it is not external issues but something internal need to change at lenovo.

 

I agree with you 100%...Lenovo definitely could do some things differently to ship their computers quicker. But this is something we understand when we order from Lenovo. I think the frustration occurs when we are told a ship date only to have it pass and see your ship date get pushed back two weeks. I was initially upset when I saw my ship date pushed back 2 weeks but after speaking with Lenovo, I realized it was hard to blame Lenovo for the delay.

On the brighter side, Lenovo will price match if you are able to price out the same configuration at a cheaper price while you wait. I was able to save $100 by taking advantage of a promotion that wasn't running when I initially placed my order.

 

I ordered on the 18th - Mine just says 'Order in process', I have not seen anywhere else to get a better indication, short of calling them up.

Wow this isn't going well... I ordered on the 4/13 and it was supposed to ship on 4/25. It hasn't shipped yet and the estimated ship date hasn't been updated either. I need this laptop asap as I'm leaving for Germany in 2 weeks... For those of you whose estimated ship date has been updated, what does it say now?

 

I ordered 4/8, est. Ship 4/25. My order went from 4/25, to "Call us" to 5/15, "Sorry, we'll put you on the priority list", to then 5/16, to "Please cancel this!", and now it's at (they insist) 4/30. No joke, they insist my cancelled order is going to ship by 4/30.

I also have another order that is supposed to ship by 5/10.

At this point i have a refurb Dell in my basket asking for payment, and use the $500 savings to get something better a year from now! The only thing stopping me is that the Dell can only take 8 GB of RAM, which is a huge selling point for the W520 for me.

 

4/30 is a Saturday... From what I know China also follows a Saturday/Sunday weekend. It's even worse for me, since even if I do cancel my order now, it still doesn't give me enough time to order from Dell and get it by my departure date.

 

On 4/26 I ordered an Ultrabay HDD adapter along with my W520, as with the discount I got I figured it wasn't worth the aggravation of a separate flea-bay purchase.

When placing the order I checked the box so as not to ship accessories before the computer. Figuring if I changed my mind and wanted to weasel out (i.e. cancel) my order before it shipped, it would be better to not have to return the adapter for a 15% restocking hit.

So of course they disregarded that request and shipped the adapter anyway, with my W520 still showing an estimated 5/15.

There's a lesson in there somewhere...

 

W520 ordered on 14th, Shipping date estimated as 27th but will now 'definitely ship this week'.

I also ordered an Ultrabay adapter as part of my order which they shipped separately and also charged just that part onto my CC. (Why would I need that before the laptop itself?)

Hopefully it will not be hard to return if I have to cancel the entire order.

 

I don't have much faith in the Lenovo customer service system as far as changing,returning or canceling your order. There is a major disconnect between customer service and the people that ship the orders from the warehouse, and customer service has been unable to help me in my case at all.

I have been trying to cancel an order since last week and it is not an easy process. I cancelled my order by phone on the 22nd and then waited for 48+ hours with no confirmation. I called Customer service again after that and again they said the order would be cancelled. I waited another 48 plus hours with no cancellation and my order online still showing a shipping date.
I called again to today to cancel was given the same routine about them canceling the order, but to wait 48 hours for it to reach the warehouse to cancel. I told the customer service rep that I wanted to talk to her supervisor and he went through the same routine the past 3 agents had gone through. The supervisor promised to expedite the case and send me an email letting me know it was cancelled. I am still waiting for the email or any other sign my order has been cancelled. I have a current ship date of May 4th and don't want to have to pay any restocking fees, if this thing ships.

 

You are not going to pay any restocking fee since the fault is not on yours. You will be charged, and then get the package, return it, and finally get the refund. You may need to pay the shipping cost though.

I had this problem with Lenovo regarding a w510 where I called and was told my order was cancelled only to find my laptop sitting at my front door a week later. When I called back, they had everything logged so they agreed to pay for return shipping and not charge me any restocking fees. The only thing that sucks is that it takes about 5 days after they receive it to issue a refund.

I've even run into situations where I was out of the 21 day grace period and they agreed to pay for return shipping and not charge a restocking fee but that is really dependent on the agent you get.

 

Did you open it, or could you resist pressing the red shiny button? I'm wondering if they will charge you if it is open regardless... I'm not sure I could resist!

Ordered April 12, shipped April 29. Original shipping estimate was April 25.

 

Well, I **FINALLY** got a shipping notice for my *THIRD* Lenovo order since March.

I had a theory that RAID orders were not in short supply, so I canceled my W520 non-raid, and ordered a W520 with RAID and lo-and-behold, it went from a 4/24 order to a 4/29 shipment! (Original estimate 5/10). No tracking info, but I'll trust them on this one.

My other canceled W520, is now showing a 5/11 shipment date though yes, I canceled that one. (It was showing a 4/29 shipment date as of yesterday)

thats an interesting theory but wouldnt configuring a system with raid take longer ?? MAybe it was coincidence ?

 

My rep told me the same thing. My laptop will be shipped out the week of 4/30. Today is 29th. questionable, but just waiting.

 

It didn't.

The RAID motherboards and Non-RAID motherboards are different part numbers. Heck, I don't even want the RAID (or 2nd drive), but I figured that since most people don't, either, they'd have a few on the shelf ready-to-go.

And they did. Yes, maybe coincidence. Maybe. It was my birthday yesterday, too, so maybe that helped!

4/22 order date, received shipment notice tonight.

 

I feel everyone's pain. My original W520 order was placed back on 4/10/2011 (it's also posted earlier in this thread). The estimated ship date was 4/21/2011. Instead it shipped on 4/18/2011 and arrived at my home by 4/21/2011.

As others have mentioned before, the order status page will show "In Process" for many days and then an email will show up once it is shipped. A second email with a tracking number comes the next day.

My reordered W520 was placed on 4/26/2011 with an estimated ship date of 5/11/2011. I'll post an update again once this order makes it out the door.

Woot my order shipped today as well. I was getting really anxious as I really wanted to have the laptop before I left the country... I ordered on 4/13, estimated ship was 4/25 and it finally shipped today (4/29). Pretty happy now that it's finally out the door. Hopefully it won't get held up by customs too long. For those who've dealth with this before, how are Canadian customs?

In summary, very disappointing. I hope I like the laptop because it cost me about 2700. (bought the dock, ultrabay, color sensor, 2820, and best warranty available.

 

Wow, I could have gotten two of my w520 configs for that much.

Do these usually ship from China?

 

The only experience I've had with the Canadian customs is entering Canada from China twice, no problems whatsoever. The first time my dad had a laptop on him, the second I was holding a MP3 player in a box. An entire shipment of laptops may be treated differently, though.

As I understand it, Lenovo is a Chinese based company, and only has factories in China so all custom ordered models ship from China.

 

shipping on a saturday seems weird

 

I heard that UPS ships and delivers on weekends. Either way, it still takes like 13 hours for it to fly here.

 

My order just arrived in the United States, does anyone know if UPS will deliver on Sunday?

 

Still need to clear customs in KY or TN first. I'm in the same boat. Expect it Tuesday.

 

It needs to clear customs first which will probably happen on Monday. Then they fly it out from there. Sunday deliveries with UPS are rare.

 

I still don't have a tracking number.
I'm hoping it's somewhere in Canada by now. Though, Lenovo did say that these orders might go through KY first (I guess for batch shipping cost savings, cheaper to do ground from US than fly two planes).

 

Amazingly enough, mine appears to be ready to deliver tomorrow (monday) by 10:30am! No customs info at all, just a departure scan. Cool. FINALLY!

 

How you get this cheap for this configuration?
I put mine order on Apr 7, but only shipped out on Apr 30.

Also I did not find the 1900x1080 as an option. Maybe that's a typo?

Hi Lampy. Glad to see another guy from the UK on this forum. I ordered my w520 on the 19th April then recieved an email from Lenovo on the 28th saying it had been shipped. Mine is below - it bothers me that it shows Anchorage, then Kentucky, then Anchorage again, but the status on top says Last Location: Departed - Anchorage, AK, United States, Sunday, 05/01/2011 so hopefully, it's really in Kentucky. (wouldn't make sense to go backwards, unless... )

Anyone else have this issue ?
