    Hey!,
    Hope this answers your questions.

    1. No the card does not some in the Ultrabay slots, and yes, there is a DVD drive in the Ultrabay

    2. Yes, though you would get a better performance by SLI'ing a 750m model with annother 750m

    3.Simply buy another Ultrabay card.

    4. Meh. You can't run these games on high graphics, but can run them at 30 - 50 FPS.

Dude, just get the 750m model. You can SLI it later on with dual 750m's!!!

    :D

Hi guys, I decided I wanted to buy a laptop for college/gaming and have considered the Ideapad y410p as an option. I read earlier that the weight is actually 4.85 pounds. Is this true? I tried asking someone in the customer service chat and they claimed that the y400 tech spec page is the one that is incorrect. The weight is the only thing holding me back from purchasing this straight away. Thank you!

Thank you for the reply! :D

Well, right now the 750m model is over my $650 budget.. even refurbished. :( is it possible to switch a 650m model to a 750m?

Hmmmmmmmmm, well yes, using the Ultradrive. You CAN switch out the stock one, but it's a bit of a hassle.

Yeah that's what I thought. Hmmm. Well crap. I think the single 650 will be ok.. but if i find a steal on a 750m model I'm buying it instantly. I've read the 750m is basically dual 650's?

My y400 doesn't weigh THAT much. Certainly not as heavy as other laptops out there. Plus, the 14' screen makes it a little more portable.

You have read wrong if you think 1x 750m is dual 650m performance.

Actually, I preforms a bit better. I was suggesting the 750m model because of the option to SLI two of them. But SLI'ed 650's are great to!!!!

I also read that the Y400 can't handle the dual 650's.. because of the screen resolution. Is that true?

Where did you read that? Of course you can. There are Ultrabay 650m made for the y400 and y500.

    They also sell 750m too.

Have you played either Arma 3 or DayZ on a single 650m? What settings were you getting those kind of frames? That's what I was hoping for out of the box.. Just smooth as butter, playable. I don't need to see every single spec of dust on the leaves of the trees. ;) Although with duals I'm sure I can run high/ultra-ish with those same frames, right?

If my dad allows it, maybe later this fall I can SLI the 650m... Speed for days!

Both. My brother has the older model in which he play Arma 3 and DayZ. They run smoothly with no problem. Although I did notice that the frame rate goes down when too many AIs are playing. Still, good though.

Deciding between y400 and y410p. Would the haswell and antiglare led 1600x900 be worth the extra 60 dollars from the 16gb ssd cache version of the y400?

Haswell's aren't that much of a improvement of the Ivy core. Only about a 5% faster. The improved screen resolution might be the only BIG difference. I got the Y400 because its cheaper. Done.

Haswell models support Optimus. And haswell y410p's have 1600x900.

    Advantages of the y410p:
    - Haswell CPU, which is 5-10% faster and has 5-10% better power consumption
    - Optimus, non-SLI models only, only with stock lenovo drivers
    - 1600x900 screen optional [which, to me, is a must]

But if screen size/battery life doesnt bother you, save the extra 100$ and go for a y400.

hello everyone, I have the Lenovo y400 with gt750m. I have a problem with the audio jack in Ubuntu. Someone running ubuntu can verify that a red light is coming out from the jack? Whenever I connect my headphones the speakers reproduce the internal sound of the laptop.

Hope someone is running Ubuntu and can tell me something about this issue.

Thank you and enjoy this great laptop

I just chatted with sales and it looks like they have the 750m Ultrabay in stock. I was curious to see if there was any y410p Ultrabays in stock (I have a y400), but surprisingly the Rep informed me there were y400 750ms ins stock. Just bought one, I'll report back whenever it shows up :D

Wait, so I can't buy a 650M ultrabay for either anymore? I thought that's what the gn35/gn36 were, 650M's? Or am I mistaken?

If they aren't available anymore, is there anywhere I could find one?

Might want to wait and see what peva3 actually gets. Reps have been notorious for confirming that ultrabay is a 750M only to have a 650M show up.

I was sceptical as well because only last week I chatted with another rep that said they were out of stock totally on every Ultrabay GPU and it would be 2 weeks until the 750m ones are in stock. That being said, since I got such a solid "guarantee" and screenshot it as well as having the Rep ID I decided to go for it.

Also there is this; on the Canadian version of the Lenovo site, it says that the GN35 is "due to Canada Day: July 1"

Worst comes to worst I return it and eventually get the correct one. I see it as more of a information gathering opportunity.

So I've been doing a little reading. I'm trying to decide on buying an SSD. If I do, it will be a Samsung 840 series 2.5" 120gb, $95 on Amazon. I will use that for Windows, Office, all the nvidia drivers, and all my games, etc. And use the 1tb HDD for my pics and documents and such.

My question is, is it worth an extra $100? I'm going to already be spending around $170 on Office, a mouse, and headset, ALONG with buying the laptop.

Also, is a SSD something I can get later on down the road? I'm going to be buying office and a bunch of games, and don't really feel like waiting for all that to re-download onto the SSD later on. But I don't know if I want to spend $100 right away unless I get a steal on the laptop.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,
    NateW

That SSD will replace the 1TB drive unless you are going to move the 1TB to an ulrabay caddy. To keep the 1TB drive in place you will have to buy a mSATA drive (as long as you are getting the Y400 and not Y410P). An SSD is great, its crazy fast.

Yes, it will replace the 1tb in the laptop. Is there a way to run the 1tb externally for storage? Besides the ultrabay?

I think it would be smarter to get an mSATA SSD and keep the 1TB HDD intact. The best mSATA SSD's perform almost as good as full-sized 2.5'' SSD's in benchmarks, not that you would ever even notice in real use. And they're about the same $/GB as regular SSD's too when you move up in capacity. Also, are you sure 120GB is enough for Windows and Office and all your games? How many games do you have? 120GB is about 112GB formatted in Windows and the OS already occupies around 30GB out of the box, which leaves you about 80GB for everything else. Subtract however many GB's Office occupies and you're not looking at whole lot of space left for games. I've got fewer than 20 games on Steam and that's already well over 100GB, to say nothing of my games on Origin and elsewhere.

I looked around a lot when I was deciding on an SSD. My two options were to keep the 1TB drive and get a 240GB mSATA or get a 500+GB 2.5" drive to replace the 1TB drive. I would have gone with the mSATA had I not found a good deal ont eh 512GB SSD I have now. I would agree you might regret 120GB as you will run out of space pretty fast. I know it might be a hassle, what I did was use the 1TB drive and load it up how I was going to use the system. See how much you are using and then pick the size.

I'm planning on just a couple of big games. Arma 3 and some mods mostly. Hmm. Just looked at that, and it takes around 20 gigs... Crap. Well I don't have the money to spend on a 256gb SSD, I think I'll probably just stick with the stock 1tb for a while then. Thanks guys.

So now the hunt continues. I should have around $700 by the end of this week to spend. Is there anywhere besides the Lenovo Outlet that I can find refurbed Y400/Y500's?

Check TigerDirect, Newegg, and Amazon. I'm not sure if they're any cheaper than the Lenovo Outlet though. Prices move pretty quickly so it would be good to check often. You never know when you might come upon the find of the century, like liteon6x who got a fully decked-out Y500 SLI refurb from the Lenovo Outlet for something absurd like $541.

I got a msata 240gb SSD and kept the 1tb HDD. My bootup time is ridiculous. It's like it is just waking up from a hibernation, but its a cold boot.

    **UPDATE**

    VUMtk3Y.png

Update from my post the other day. My order shows that the estimated ship date is 2013/7/23... Even though the rep said that they had the item in stock...

    **UPDATE 2**

Just chatted with another sales rep and they said that even though the other rep told me they had the item in stock... it wasn't... And the next time they will have some in stock will be July 24th... but my order status has it estimated that it will ship on the 23rd of July... Lenovo needs to get there stuff together lol

Yeah like I said the reps have no idea what they are talking about. Even when they had the Y500 ultrabay and in the title said it was the 750M (but everything else about the listing smelled like a 650M), it was a 650M that was delivered. Only way I will believe it is if they actually put a correct listing on their website or someone like you actually gets on in the mail.

Haswell + switchable graphics + 1600x900 is well worth getting a y410p. Especially since no y400 comes with SLI anyways.

Can you link the 900p screen? Might do that upgrade myself.

    **Update**

Found this screen from another thread and ended up buying it. Was a tough choice between matte and glossy, ended up going with glossy because I'll be indoors mostly with it.

I recently purchased a y400, but I have ran into trouble when I tried backing up a system image. I went to Windows 7 File Recovery, and I clicked on create a system image. It went through the entire process, but at the very end it said there was an error. (VSS Error: 0x80042306 - Volume Shadow Copy Error) I tried all of the solutions online, but none of them worked. I am wondering if this is a problem with the one key recovery?
