Do the y500 SLI graphics modules fit into the y400, and is Lenovo still selling them (the 650m version)?

    1. Do they fit? Yes.
    2. If you plan on SLI with a y4/5/00/10p, you will also need the bigger power adapter (180W), as non-SLI versions come with smaller ones (120W)
    3. Im not sure if they still sell them or not.

Actually I've read a few posts that the screen that I linked does allow you to have 900p on the y400. My 900p screen will be here next week and I'll report back then.

Im just playing it safe with what is shown on the Lenovo website. The site also says the p is only 10$ more, and switchable graphics are well worth 10$ imho.

y400 has switchable graphics cards (Ultrabay).

By switchable graphics, i meant it has a working IGP (intel HD 4600) so you can switch between integrated and dedicated GPU for better mobile experience.

Some guy from another forum reported 6 hour battery life on the y510p using the intel GPU...

I don't believe so, seems like the gn36(Y500 ultrabay graphics) would be a hair bigger than the gn35(Y400 ultrabay graphics ). That's what I've read everywhere. It'd be awesome if they do fit, it just doesn't match my research.

EDIT: From the product page on Lenovo's site on the gn35 and a post on CNET about the gn36, seems like they are the same size. That's kind of dumb, why would you post two different products when they're exactly the same, and have one $100 cheaper?

My mistake, sorry about the confusion.

So it won't ever be possible to get that on the y400/y500 with a software update?

    Y400/410p review:
    - Very powerful CPU, quad core, turbo up to 3.4ghz, ivy bridge on the y400, haswell on the y410p
    - Single 750m GPU, still very good, can play Battlefield 3
    - 5 pound weight (approx)
    - Screen is glossy, not anti glare
    - Trackapd is wonky, but is decent if you disable multi-touch
    - 1366x768 resolution, you should have bought a y410p for a 1600x900
    - Intel GPU is disabled on the y400, but is not disabled ont he y410p, which is a plus for battery life
    - Msata port on the y400, versus the NGFF port for the y410p
    - If you downgrade to win7, make sure to backup the driver partition
    - 14 inch models dont have SLI, but you can upgrade later
    - 2-4 Hour battery life, longer on the y410p due to switchable graphics
    - VERY good audio quality
    - Comes with a significant amount of bloatware, not really a problem
    - Lenovo Y series are probably the best bang-for-buck laptops out there
    - The power adaptor is 66% of the size of the y500/y510p series
    - Carbon finish instead of aluminium finish for the 14 inch
    - Backlit keyboard (red)

What where you doing when you got 4 hours of battery life? what settings?
    Is the carbon finish flimsy?
What settings are you getting gaming?
    Thanks for the review

    1. Word processing, medium brightness, intel GPU (y410p) + cleaned most of the bloatware

    2. Its less flimsy then all the Dell's ive owned over the years, the build quality feels better than Dell. Its no Thinkpad (which IMO has the best build quality ever) but it gets the job done.

    3. Im not using it much for gaming, aside from the occasional game of BF3/Minecraft, but BF3 runs fine on ultra settings at 1366x768 on the NVidia Card, and Minecraft runs fine on the Intel Card.

    4. Even tho my y410p is a gaming laptop, im not using it a lot for gaming. Its main uses are MS office, internet browsing and video/photo/audio editing. I just bought this to make sure the specs can last me a few years.

Im on the intel GPU 80% of the time FYI.

    1. y410p has a Haswell CPU (10% more power and battery life), an integrated GPU (intel 4600) that can be used alongside the 750m, 1600x900 screen resolution as an option, NGFF SSD instead of MSata SSD
    2. Not yet, the cards are supposed to come out next month, and the stock 120W power adapter needs to be upgraded to 180W
    3. Im not sure
    4. Unless you absolutely NEED an Msata port for some reason, go for the y410p, its better in every way and only 10$ (USD) more expensive.

Bad news everybody, I got my 900p screen for my y400 and it doesn't work, the colors are all weird along with other problems. Going to try to see what I can do, but I think it may just be something in the bios that is hard coded.

It's not a y400 screen, its one for the T430, but its the exact same size, exact same connector, and even has the exact same mounting holes.

Not sure if I have to edit my bios then flash it... Can't seem to find any guides of people doing this.

Update on my y400 ultrabay. I just got the shipment notice... Even though they literally just told me they wouldn't have any until July 24th... I'll report back once it arrives. Hopefully it really is a 750m and not some leftover 650m :\

They seriously have an issue with communication. I wouldn't be surprised if the sales guys knew you wanted the 750M so they put late ship date because, from what I have heard and my sales rep told me, it was going to be at least mid july when they would have them. But then someone in the warehouse sees the order, sees the 650M UB on the shelf, and ships it out. Part of the problem is they need to create a new part number and listing for the 750M Ultrabay, if they are going to sell it. Having the old listing up and the sales rep using that to create the order only causes confusion.

I hope that isn't what happened, though I'm going to chat with sales just to see whats going on, it says I will get it on Tuesday so I guess I'll know for sure if it's a 650m or 750m then. :\

    **Update***

!!! Lenovo get your together. So the first rep I talked to last week told me they ONLY had 750ms in stock, then the second said that they WOULD have them at the end of July, then this one just now told me that my order just shipped with a 650m...

    Seriously...

I was about to buy another gaming laptop (aw mx14)when I read on the internet that a lot of users are having a particular issue with that lappy.

I'm considering this Lenovo Y400/Y410P as an alternative and I really like the specs...

So I'm wondering, are there any factory flaws that I should be aware of? Any report of a particular problem for those models?

    Regards,

Indeed, I'm about to purchase the Y410P instead of the Y400, I'm just waiting for a little more feedback just to be sure that I'm not getting a product with some common issues...

Since I don't live in US, it is really complicate for me to return a product and very expensive, so reviews for me are essential.

    Thanks,

    (Consequently, optimus works)

No, Optimus does not work in the Y510p/Y410p. You have to manually select the Intel iGPU, whereas Optimus dynamically switches between dedicated and integrated GPU.

Optimus does work with the y410p/y510p. It switches back and forth seamlessly, but the Nvidia gpu still becomes underclocked when running on battery power making it worse than the intel gpu. In order to make games playable, one must switch to the intel gpu manually in the settings, an switch it back to the nvidia one after plugging in again.
Does anyone know of a way to prevent the Nvidia gpu from underclocking itself on battery power or of a way to automatically disable the Nvidia gpu on batter power?

You've probably already made your decision, but i'm just seeing this thread now and adding my 2 cents. As octiceps stated above - personally I think this is the wrong way to go. Just keep the stock drive in place for storage and less frequently used apps, and get an mSATA SSD for the OS and games you access frequently. You can get a 120GB or 128GB mSATA SSD for around $100, or a 240GB or 256GB for double that (or less). This way you get the best of both worlds - SSD performance and tons of storage.

Could possibly be overheating if it's that regular of a restart. Possibly something corrupted in windows like a driver or something.

I have another problem now. I just turned on the computer after it did windows updates and it doesn't recognize my speaker/headphones. I rebooted and shut down the laptop and it still doesn't recognize. I updated the drivers, nothing helps. What should I do?

That's not entirely true; the NGFF format isn't widely available yet, so the mSATA format of the older y400/500 models is more relevant for the moment. Also why wouldn't the y500 be discontinued as well? Its relationship to the y510p is the same.

    hello all..
i have a little bit problems with my onekey recovery...
so in the first time, i bought my laptop and i found my laptop pertitions is fail... why i said fail? because in disk C have 870GB and disk D just have 25GB...

So can I assume that if I don't buy up an ultrabay 650m for the y400 right now, I'll be SOL in the near future?
