What do you think of the Y450 screen resolution? Is 1366x768 LED a good display? Is it better than a 1440x900 LED (T400)?

    Thanx!

Well by the numbers I would have to say no, but since I have not seen either in person I am just going by the numbers.

Do we have any other options to the Y450 that will have a better video card than the NV G 105M?

I'm with you guys. I've been shopping around since last summer when my HP burned out bc/of the nVidia graphics defect. Been using a combination of my 6 year old Dell and a borrowed budget Compaq.

I am pretty desperate for a new machine, but after waiting so long I don't want to compromise. I wish Lenovo wasn't so picky about which regions of the world get which models. I'm sure it will only be a matter of days/weeks before we get the options we want in the US. Hang in there fellas...

I found some more materials for us to ponder. Click on 'Take Course'.

So I created a thread 2 days ago debating whether to get the $830 or $999 build.
Based on the assumption I could shut the video card off (to save batt), I went back to the site C.C. in hand and
    :: poof ::
No vid card or P7450 :-(

They are certainly having all sorts of issues keeping the site consistent.
For example, clicking Products-->Ideapad and rolling over the "Y Series" icon shows "New" for the y550 - everywhere else it says "coming soon".

I think the posting of the $999 model was a mistake on their part from the begining (hope I'm wrong).
On the y450 summary page it even states "Up to Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor (2GHz)" which further leads me to belive the P7450 wasn't ready for release yet.

..atleast I didn't charge it and have my money tied up till they sorted it out

the nvidia 130m option will definitely be more expensive than $999... and i cant afford anything more than that so im gonna buy the 105m option for $999... i found a 10% off coupon for the Y-series... so its down to $899. thats a great deal!! IM BUYING IT!!

the price of the chinese models with GT130M are so reasonable .. the top model is the same as the US one but with 2GB ram and the GT130m .. and it comes to about 1050$ .. the lower models with lower specced processors also come with the same card and same ram .. but lower capacity HDs

I know it probably won't ship for a while, but definitely let us know what you think when you get it.

I'm still waiting for the 130M option. I hope the price doesn't go up too much, because I'm also at the top end of my budget.

Noticed the Y550 GeForce 105M has 512mb RAM. What should one expect with that versus the 256mb 105M on the Y450?

It could be a typo... i don't trust their website untill i see what the pdf specification sheet indicates.

I bought a y530, the website said it had a 9300gs, turned out to be a 9500G with 512..go figure!!!

I believe you'll have a choice of the white or black one. On some of Lenovo's international sites, they have given consumer that option.

I would like to see some more detailed pics of the black Y series though.

In an online chat discussion I had with a service rep, he made it sound like the entire Y550 line would be black. He said the white ones would probably be offered later this summer.

**Technically he said they were "dark grey" and I only inquired about the two highest models, but he seemed to be answering for the entire line.

Still no reviews of the y450 or y550? lenovo must be slow shipping their review samples - the new HP s-series had reviews same day.

yea i was wondering the same thing... where are the reviews??
Actually I realized that some of the main points in the reviews of the Y650 will be similar to the reviews for the Y450 (big touchpad, good keyboard, great design, and some similar specs also)

For the first time I'm being an "early adopter" and ordered a Y450 yesterday during the 10% off sale. Picked up the $829 integrated graphics model, as follows:

    Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 - 418938U
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T6400 ( 2GHz 800MHz 2MB)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 64
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz
    14.0 " HD Wide LED 1366x768
    Industry Standard Touchpad
    320GB 5400
    DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
    6 Cell Lithium-Ion
    Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100
    $829-10% off sale (ended 4/30)

I just returned a 'new' Dell XPS M1330 that I owned for just a few days before it overheated twice and 'died'. It was quite a nice, LIGHT, UCL before it died though.

Got my RMA and dropped it off yesterday at UPS for return to Dell. I looked at the Studio XPS13, but saw that many were having the same heat issues as the M1330. I'd been eyeballing the Y-series previously, so decided to try the new Y450 as an alternative. Even with the premium pricing over the older Y430, the Y450 still was quite affordable (compared to a Studio XPS13).

I'll chime in once it arrives (8 days or so, barring any of the current 'delayed shipping' foolishness that seems to be hampering Lenovo lately).

Yes, I can sympathize with that. I would have like to have gotten one with a P8600 and integrated graphics (like the Y550 currently offers), however, tops is the 7450, but that automatically comes with the GF105M currently by default. I'd have taken the T7450, but really don't want the discreet graphics.

They are supposed to be releasing it with the P8600? Does anyone know what is the time frame on that supposed to be? Are there any other changes that are expected to be made to the lineup?

I have been on Lenovo's Tech chat a number of times, and they never have an answer for me when it comes to the type of hardware that will be available for the product in the future.

But I'm pretty sure their configurations will change. They still don't have the Blu-ray drive, and the press release claims that the Y450 will have Blu-ray.

Well my top build Y450 was SUPPOSED to ship today...

Last week I noticed that the Lenovo order status site stated that my bill was ~$10 more then what I was told when placing the order or from that which I received in the order confirmation email (they included a shipping charge on the site). Additionally, I had yet to see the charge on my account. I called them last week to discuss this and was told not to worry.
I checked the website again today (the day of my "estimated ship date") and nothing had changed. When I asked why it hasn't yet shipped, they insisted it was because my credit card was rejected. It seems they were desperate to make any excuse - which they quickly revoked once I told them this was impossible (I used paypal tied to my bank account). So for reasons unknown my order was sitting on hold.
Their solution was to push the order to the warehouse and tell me to call in 24-48 business hours for an update (that means Monday...). More likely then not, their slip will push me back to the next round of shipments and I wont receive the comp for another 2 weeks. I'm very tempted to cancel the order and go elsewhere if they don't offer a free shipping upgrade when I call back in 48.
Sorry all, I hoped to provide a user review (with pics) - but nevermind.

Interesting, and similar to what I experienced yesterday.

There had been no update on my system since ordered. I called Lenovo and they said it had been on 'Credit Card Hold'. I had not seen a charge to my card yet either. Not sure why it would have been on hold, however. The agent said it had not been released for build yet.

I ended up cancelling the order and ordering another refurb on the XPS 15% off sale yesterday. Really dissapointed in the process with Lenovo for the new Y450 I was ordering.

I wonder if they didn't have the components ready yet and put up the ordering too early?

You might want to try posting to the lenovo forums. They have a thread dedicated to shipping issues and it appears every once in a while someone will come on and help some people out. Not a sure thing but might work for you...

I just ordered the high-end y650 off the outlet store for $787 shipped after tax. It's a refurb. but hopefully that won't be an issue. I'll do a personal review after I've played with it for a bit.

So will I - in theory.
And so should my friend who placed his order within hours of it going live in the US (originally, before they took it down and reposted it).

Has anyone actually heard of a person who's received a Y450 in the U.S. at all?

yea i read ur post on the lenovo forums... hopefully Mark will answer. i have actually started looking at other laptops now because of all of this nonsense. Lenovo should know better than to mess with the customers. If their product wasnt ready to begin with, then why release it at all!! ughh let us know how it goes...

and i asked that question in another forum and no one has it yet... everyone is waiting for it to get shipped

Has anyone seen the new Y series in stores? I'm curious as to how they actually feel and the weight of the unit.

Also, Lenovo has a sale on the Y450. A savings of over $200 is possible on the configuration with the P7450 processor.

    Original Price: $999
Sale Price w/ Student Discount: $791

btw Playjurist... i did the same thing
my laptop shipping date was yesterday 5/11... but the order status still says "in process" and the shipping date has been pushed back to 6/8!!! so i called lenovo to ask what was going on... they said (and it has been confirmed by many different reps) that the order status online is simply computer generated and that the real shipment date will be during the week of 5/21! i found it kinda odd that they would pick thursday to represent a week but the guy said that the date was given by the warehouse ppl... the representative also told me that most orders were being pushed make because their supply simply doesnt meet the demand. he said they never expected this laptop to sell so quickly and at the rate that it is.

if any of you remember when the nintendo wii first came out... nintendo could barely supply people up until recently when the demand dropped....so basically what im trying to say is... patience is a virtue!!

Just ordered...the current promotion was too good to pass up. I went with the P7450 option. Still wish I could have gotten a 130M vid card, but what a value! deltachaosx, I hope you're right about the shipping date being earlier than June. I had it sent to my parents' house where my credit cards are registered to avoid getting canceled. I'm moving for an internship at the beginning of June so I hope I can pick it up before I leave.

Anyway, they better get their act together now that the Y450 and Y550 are featured on the homepage.

How did you go about getting this discount?

I used the lenovo government and education site, inputted my school and my end total for the p7450 came out $823.

Maybe different schools get diff discounts?

Interesting, when I selected it a few days ago I got a sub $800 price. But now it's increased to over $800. I guess it was a one day thing.

I just click on " Click here if you cannot find your school above to receive academic discounts."

And that's how I get the discount.

Placed an order last night for a Y450 that generated a ship date of 6/10. Called up lenovo who said that they have a batch planned to go out next week and if they had any left I would be in that batch. Otherwise, it won't ship till June. So you guys who ordered back in April will probably see it ship next week or the week after at the latest.

If these laptops are really supposed to be great for multimedia, I'm surprised that none of the models presently available have Blu-ray. That seems to be a fairly significant oversight.

Pre-production promotional materials listed blu-ray as a feature. As with other things mentioned previously (nvidia 130M, P8600 processor), I think they just haven't released a model with it. Obviously they're having enough issues getting out the machines currently available on the site. It will almost certainly be available down the road.

    That will most likely happen.

It's disappointing though, to promise a laptop with all those features, and they release bare bone models instead. I believe they are losing potential customers.
