Sure will keep that in mind though I highly doubt is effect all systems I'll report in a couple weeks if happens it should happen by then.
Are you sure you didn't mess around with some Windows settings or installed non-proprietary 3rd party drivers (like PS3 gamepad drivers) and deleted something important in the system files?

GT 555m on Y570 128bit or the full 192 bit?
-
All GT 555M's with GDDR5 are 128-Bit/96 Cuda @ 753Mhz and all GT 555M's with GDDR3 are 192-Bit/144 Cuda @ 590-675Mhz:
GeForce GT 555M
Just keep in mind Lenovo cards are supported by NVIDIA OEM drivers yet that will come in the next release by NVIDIA 275.50 thus no one here can tell you how far the Y570 GT 555M can go with OC. -
So which GT 555m is inside the Y570? the 128bit/96CUDA or 192bit/144CUDA?
-
GT 555M with GDDR5.
-
Does it mean it is slower than the GT 540m found on Acer 3830/4830TG and Y470 GT 550 550m? -
No, it's not watered down. It should be around the same speed because it's clocked higher and has GDDR5 memory intead of GDDR3

If people are looking for the Ideapad Y570 ASAP with the Quadcore i7 2630qm for cheap then newegg has a great price $950 Free 2 day shipping and no tax unless you are in California or New Jersey. The i7-2630qm if bought from Lenovo right now is over $1,300+ and after applying the 15-20% coupon it will still be over $1,100+ after taxes.

Looks to be cheaper with more ram, Blu-ray and 62Wh battery on Lenovo US website with 20% off.

#Nemixx77, yup didn't install or play with anything, seems to be a problem the plagues a few other notebooks out there related to the BIOS. I think it mightve been brought on through the use of hibernation/sleep.

Well I got an answer as to my UPS issue... My order wasn't showing up in the UPS tracking. I talked to someone at Lenovo yesterday and here is the relevant sentence from the email I just got:
"According to UPS the order never showed up from the airline, so right now informal status with UPS is Missing In Transit."
Awesome. She said they can process a new order for me or credit my money back. I've already bought an mSATA so I don't have much of an option. -
@ shoeman6
Thanks for advice.
Hopefully the problem can be fixed via BIOS update, Windows update or with a driver update. Sounds to me like it can easily be fixed or either a user error but then again I haven't have the laptop long enough and through extensive usage. -

does the y470 come with 2 x 2GB or 1 x 4GB RAM?
-
y470 is a 2x2 y570 is a 1x4
-
Nope my bros came with 2x2GB on his Y570 i3-2310M 4GB 500GB.
-
-
is it normal for when the y570 is on your lap for the battery to move ever so slightly? i never noticed this before today.
anyone else noticed this on their y570? -
@Nemixx, that's weird, my y570 came with a 1x4.
sammino the battery in mine wiggles a bit too. -
I guess we got the second un-rushed batch.
My bros Y570 has quality written all over it with the exception of the un-noticeable flex already mentioned a few pages back in this thread.
It came standard 2x2Gb and like many other on this thread have mentioned I was expecting 1x4Gb and planning on sticking another 2GB to make it 6GB.
But it's cool both ways cause it's Dual Channel right of the bat and my bro is happy with 4GB, either way if he wants to upgrade he can just sell the 2GB and purchase 4GB.
Did I mention the Samsung ram that comes with this laptop is high quality original Samsung Green memory.
We're happy with purchase and with Lenovo as a manufacturer. -
Hey guys, just wanted to give you guys an update.
I called UPS yesterday and got my Y470 today.
First impressions...:
The bottom is very plasticy... although no keyboard flex at all. Keyboard area is solid, but there are two parts on the keyboard area where I keep getting "clicks" because the fit is not perfect.
I wish it had the book style design of the U series, which are very solidly built.
Lots of bloatware, but I kept some of the Lenovo stuff.
Screen is pretty nice although not 1080P (yes, I already knew that before buying). The plastic around the screen can be pried apart, but I don't know why anyone would that. I guess if the laptop is dropped, the first thing to go will be around the screen.
Has a nice weight to it, not too heavy, not too light.
Battery life is around 4-4.5 hours with the GT 550M and high performance stuff on and around 6-8 hours with normal use.
Speakers are amazing for a laptop.
For some reason the GT 550M is not getting recognized by the Nvidia driver update software so I'm stuck the older Lenovo provided drivers for now. Also, the windows experience index is not recognizing the GPU either so it got a "5.9" for the graphics score.
It comes with a unusually ginormous power brick.
Overall, I'm pretty happy although I expected it to be a little more "tough" and well built from all the user "reviews." Maybe I'm just spoiled from my previous thinkpads... -
mine y470 come with 1x4gb
-
How do you change the graphics cards back and forth?
-
-
-
i got a question can y470 run Grand Theft Auto 4?
i have the i-3 and 4g ram version -
If so i will jump on this laptop immediately. -
@ Eunkipark92
Should be able to play GTAIV fluidly however, GTAIV like ram so an upgrade to 8GB would help.
@ liner
4 hours of gaming on a 6-cell unheard of, I think he meant high performance Window power profile. -
I highly doubt you will be able to get more than 4 hours max with a game like SC II. -
Hi I'm Italian. How run Empire Total War at native resolution (1366 * 768) on Ultra with Directx 11 ?
thank you for the reply -
-
Hi guys I have the Y570. Is it possible to add a second hard drive to this thing?
And if I want to add more RAM, what are the best ones?
I've had this for two weeks and I'm loving so far. -
I'd just like to say I'm kinda a big gamer, but I don't have the biggest budget and I'm so happy that I've finally decided to get the highest-end Y570. I love Lenovo, reason? I've had my Y450, yes, Y450 for 2 years and I've been able to play almost every game on max, yes, even Crysis!
Now the specs won't blow you away, and I read the first 30 + pages of this thread and I've seen an owner with a Y570 with the GT 555m experience 20 fps with only LOW settings in Black Ops? What the hell?
AFAIK, the GT 555m should be maxing out EVERY game, including Crysis with the 1336x768 resolution.
I'm not joking, the current graphic card of my Y450 is a Nvidia GT 240m, here are the full specs to be honest :
Intel Core 2 Duo P7550 (2.26 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066 MT/s FSB)
nVidia GeForce GT 240M ( 512MB DDR3 )
2 GB DDR3
and with those specs I can play games with everything maxed and achieve 30-60 FPS?
Then again, I optimise my Windows 7 a hell of a lot.
I'm sure once I get the Y570 I'll be maxing games again -
I've been playing the Witcher 2 on medium settings and I'm getting 20 to 40 fps.
-
@donkey, sounds playable
!
Good news imo, I'm very happy with my gaming; performance wise. -
how does the 555m perform compared other laptops with it?
-
Hey everyone, I received my i3 y470 about a week ago and so far have been happy with it. The 540m is performing very well and is maxing out most of the games I've tried.
Right now my only concern is the screen. I've calibrated the display using the color management control panel in Windows 7, but that doesn't help the screen's horrible viewing angle. I'm used to using a CRT so perhaps this is something I just need to get used to, but I literally have a 0 degree viewing angle. Shifting my head just slightly upwards while playing a game results in all the dark areas particularly in the lower half of the screen to brighten up with a purplish glow.
Is this a problem anyone else has, or was I unlucky enough to get a faulty screen? -
Yup it's something u need to get use to, I find the LED viewing angles on my bros Y570 far superior to my sisters two year old Acer 14" LCD.
And we were all sharing that laptop just fine when living in an apartment temporarily between moving. -
About a month into use for my Y470,
i7-2630qm
8GB RAM
500GB 7200rpm HDD
Nvidia GT 550m
$820 without tax.
Very happy so far. It runs almost everything with flying colours. The only games I can't max out are Bulletstorm (AA or AF turned down I think, running everything else at max at around 20-35 FPS), Crysis (everything set to gamer settings runs pretty smooth except for really high action places, mainstream runs fine anywhere), Far Cry 2 (Everything maxed but AA disabled, runs at around 30-45), ARMA 2 (Everything maxed except shadows on normal and AA/AF disabled, runs at around 25-35), and TA: Spring (everything low, because this game WILL eat your computer alive).
It gets around 8800 3dmark06's I believe. I plan to hook up my desktop Radeon 5870 to it soon, and I expect around 17k after I do so. -
-
I can run bulletstorm maxed and playable on my y570. 555m. 30-40 fps @orbit, as others have said it's just the LED screen. I use a really old tri-screen crt setup on my desktop and I find that it takes some adjusting when I switch back to notebook screens. Overall it's about average.
-
Ordered a Y470 for $800 before tax and shipping... hopefully it's as good as everyone says. Still debating between sticking to the OE HDD or ordering a mSATA SSD.
Specs:
i5 2410
4GB ram
Blu-ray drive
750GB 5400RPM drive
Edit: Also... does anyone know if the screen can be upgraded with a 1600x900 screen from LG or AUO? -
EDIT: So hyped for connecting my Radeon 5870 to my 470, 17-18k 3dmark everything maxed! -
Hey guys, it looks like Lenovo decided to bring back the lower configs for the y470 before july 4th ends; going to pick up the y470. Also they increase the price of y570 to $999.
-
Hey guys thanks a lot for all the info in this thread
I'm looking for a gaming laptop in this budget but I'm torn between the y570 and y470. So I guess what I want to ask is whether the extra bulk of a 15.6 incher worth it for the GT 555M? Especially considering it has the same 96 cores? -
The 1366x768 is going to look horrible on a 15inch laptop since they will look zoomed/close up.
Get the Y470 if i were you, it is about 1lb lighter and dimensionally smaller leaving you more room on your desk and 1366x768 on a 14" isn't going to be bad but usually 900p is recommended but on a 14" you can still get away with the 720p. Not on 15inch though. -
How does y470 run league of legends and call of duty black ops with maxed out settings? Has anyone tried that?
-
-
What are the difference between the i5-2410M and the i7-2630QM for the Y470
-
i5 = Dual core with 3mb cache
i7 = Quad core with 6mb cache
both have hyperthreading, so 4 threads for the i5 and 8 threads for the i7
