Because I'd rather have the extra gigs of storage right now. I can wait a few more seconds for programs to start up.

My y570 was held at the kentucky hub for about 4 days, just go by the estimated ups delivery date, it turned out to be correct.
-
i dont think im gonna get mine this week, -
555m dragon age on high gets 25-30 fps.
3000 dragon age on high gets 5 fps. -
Y470 technically has 4 USB ports. 2x USB3.0, 1x USB2.0, 1xEsata+USB2.0 -
I just noticed that too; I wonder what is Lenovo doing. They pulled the i5 500gb oh I hope they bring it back because I'm also waiting for the 20% coupon. -
I'm in the same boat as you are - bran' spankin' new Y570, fresh W7 install on an Intel SSD - installed the latest nvidia drivers. It BSOD'ed on the driver's .dll later on while surfing with the Optimus set to On (I was checking out the GPU temps using GPU-Z). Did a hard reboot, and once logged back in Device Manager doesn't recognize the GT555 anymore.
Cleaned the nvidia drivers in Safe Mode using Driver Cleaner, no luck. Neither the stock Lenovo nor the new beta drivers can see the GT555. And what I find odd is that the Optimus LED stays On, even if I manually switch it to Off...
Guess it's time to call Service Support.
24 hours usage, not a single game. I'm not impressed. -
-
If you cant accept my suggestion. Just ignore it? At least my point could be useful to others.
From my point, I dont see the reason of not utilizing an SSD. If given me a 40GB SSD, I would mount it in right away and just use my external Harddisks for storage. For the EXTRA speed and the lower temperature. External Harddisk at 2.5inch form factor is small enough to bring around unless you want total mobility which I dont see a reason for it to get a 14inch and to carry it all around.
peace. -
I got my Y570 a few weeks ago and I love it! I only have a few issues with it.
1. The headphone jack has a significant amount of interference. I'm hopeful that this issue could be fixed by replacing the cable with something that's shielded better though. Has anyone tried to do that yet?
2. This is hardly an uncommon or unexpected issue, but the screen simulates 24 bit depth with dithered 18 bit depth. This would be more acceptable if the resolution was higher, but I can clearly notice the dithering on anything more than the lowest brightness from a normal viewing distance. Almost all the laptops I've used have this issue though, so it's nothing particular against this model, just laptops in general.
3. I couldn't get the latest, beta Nvidia drivers to work. They installed fine, but I couldn't get any programs to open afterwards unless I turned Optimus (and therefore the graphics card) off. In uninstalled them and reinstalled the Lenovo driver. Luckily, that driver has been working fine for me.
Also, I'm pleasantly surprised by the Optimus implementation on this computer. When my parents got a laptop (from Dell) with Optimus, it was so annoying and unreliable that I set it to never use integrated graphics. I don't have to do that on the Y570. -
The 275.50 beta driver brought down performance in L4D2 and HL2: Lost Coast. FPS went from high 60's - mid 80's to mid 50's - 60's. HL2: LC Stress Test went from 100+ fps to 60 fps.
SC: Conviction did seem to have a increase in performance when maxed out.
I think the driver has optimized performance for newer games but not older games. Hopefully, the non-beta driver will resolve this. -
If you want to try official drivers, you can use the modded INF to do so.

Yeah, super slow shipping... why doesn't Lenovo have any warehouses in the US, especially since you can't customize hardware?
Whatever, hopefully UPS is right and I'll have it tomorrow night. -
For all you people arguing about removing your normal HDD for an SSD.
BOTH THE Y470 AND THE Y570 HAVE A DEDICATED SLOT TO INSTALL AN mSATA SSD WITHOUT REMOVING YOUR NORMAL HDD.
All this misinformation and stupid arguing is driving me nuts. -
Well i ordered a y470 last thursday and was originally set to ship out on 6/30. Now the shipping date is completely gone and the model I ordered is no longer available on their website. Probably not a good sign right?

Well this is what they answered when I asked them about those lower end configs:

The one thing above all that annoys me the most is the screens poor build quality, esp. the bezel. It feels loose and cheap. It's a fingerprint magnet, every time I touch It I can feel the squish of it's loosness. WHen it's closed and Im holding it under my arm the screen will squish in a bit an it doesn't feel very secure. Also the bezel unlatches incredibly easily. The screen closed on my hand and the whole top of the bezel unlatched, it's easy to just press back in but it just detracts from wat would be a very nice laptop. If the bezel felt more solid like on other laptops I would be MUCH more pleased.
-
I am having problem with the bezel too. Mine is at the bottom part where the lenovo word is. It doesnt feel attached to the screen cover. I can press it with my finger and feel the loose part.
-
Anyhow, its just suggestion from each and one of us. If the forum were to follow one's idea. Whats the point of a forum? Its a discussion board where everyone pour out what they think and their own ideas. -
Got my Y570 this afternoon and I'm loving it so far. Just gotta get use to the keyboard layout. The shift, enter keys I find small. I thought the 'ideapad' on the bottom right was suppose to glow but it just seems to be painted on.
Otherwise, I am real happy with the upgrade. I'm not getting any interference so far with the headphone jack. I just gotta reformat and partition the drive the way I want to and remove some bloat -

Also, I wanted to ask you guys/gals who have had their laptops if they have any suggestions or tips about what we should do when we get our laptops.
BTW, I got the Y470, i7 2630QM, 500GB 7200 RPM, 8GB RAM for $970 with tax. I thought it was a good deal so I jumped on it. I can't wait to receive it!
-
Lenovo have lost their minds.
The Y470 i5 from $899 is now $999, and the i7 from $999 is now $1,349.
LOLZ -
Must be selling hotcake and they choose to up the price? with the currecny exchange from my country, I got my Y470 at $950 with i7-2630QM, 750GB and 4GB ram.
I agree with angrykenji,
the right shift key is kinda small to my liking.. I tend to press UP arrow key at first.. but now I kinda got used to it and my pinky finger adjusts itself. Thou sometimes I still make that mistake. -
I'm really disappointed with Lenovo. I really wanted the $849 config of the y470 and now its gone. I think they did this for sales purposes not because they have backordered. -
Actually, there's the UPS man right now!!!
Is there enough good software to not do a clean install of Windows? -
all I uninstalled was the AntiVirus. Thats all. And Microsoft Office Starter.
Well Im curious. In US, do you guy normally shop by the online website?
Because thats not the case in Malaysia here. -
Eh, supply and demand cant really blame lenovo because they like profit as much as any other business..
I don't ever use the right shift key so i don't really notice its size much but the enter key is a bit small for my tastes... -
The 20% coupon is back..but those y470 lower end configs aren't unfortunately
-
Uninstall the Lenovo R.I.C. thingy is does nothing but you will not be able to re-download it you want it back.

My bros Y570 i3-2310M runs @ 60 degrees celcius after 1 hours Prime95 (CPU test) and 65 degrees celcius for both CPU/GPU after 1 hour gaming test.
With custom power savings he gets 5 hours of normal use (internet, email, YouTube and music) - (NVIDIA off).
I'll be putting the above Lenovo Y570 i3-2310M + GT 555M up against a HP DV6 Llano A8-3510MX + HD 6755G2 next week in the Fusion Info thread if anyone is interested.
-
give us a link when you do! i also got around ~5hrs of casual use (also custom power settings) and that is awesome!
i'm not sure of the heat after gaming. it does warm up a bit and the fan is still fairly quiet (just as loud as my old T43's fan). -
The cooling on the Y570 really good with my experience so far on i3-2310M the heatsink does heat up a lot but the hot air is pushed out quickly and efficiently.
Thus you may think you laptop is heating up at first if you put you hand beside the vent but I had HWMonitor and GPU-Z running in the background to measure the temps the whole time gaming and when I ran Prime95 (CPU test).
I'll try and get a link up by the following Monday, the HP Llano laptop should arrive by next Wednesday and I just peeled the Y570 and did all the mandatory testings (MemTest, HDD bad sector scan and heat testing) for my bro yesterday. -
The little vent throws out some serious heat, but I guess that just means its heat not in the laptop.
I've got the y470 with i5-2410m and even when the CPU/GPU hit ~85c the keyboard remained cool to the touch. -
The palm rest and keyboard on my bros Y570 also does not heat up much either even during the tests, this laptop is built really well bottom up in my opinion.
I really like the JBL speakers and SRS on the Y570 the sound produced is really good for listening to music, movies and games.
The screen is also fantastic and I'm surprised Windows update has a driver for the LED screen under 'Optional' as a ThinkPad.
The battery life already mentioned above is very good, the capacity is rated 62Wh and shown as 6350Wh with HWMonitor at full charge.
Overall, the Y570 is a sharp looking laptop that does everything really well IMO. -
The 20% coupon expires on 7/7/11 and it works on regular Lenovo site.
The same coupon code also works @ Lenovo MasterCard/Visa Lenovo cardholder website but for some reason it only shaves off 7% instead of 20%? Anyone knows why?
Are there any 10-15% coupon for Mastercard/Visa active?
Thanks -
Y470 has blue lights on power button and on the activity led and mute/volume and Y570 has white?
-
I can confirm the Y570 is white with a tiny hint of blue.
-
Thanks papi -
Cool my y470 was released from custom 43min ago. I doubt it I will get it tomorrow.. since its like 14hours from here to Louisville. And they probably wont ship it till next morning.
Does ups ship on Saturday?otherwise I'm gonna have to wait till Monday -
For anyone reading and interested in a Y570 is Toronto.
I have BNIB Y570 i3-2310M model for $750 CAD with full 1 year warranty. The warranty is not activated until you call or register online. Pickup or delivery for $15 in the GTA. Post is also on RFD.
PM if interested. -

For the HP Llano as benchmarks.
The idea was for us brothers to have the same laptop I picked out during CES 2011 as the best SB laptop for price, performance and quality, I wanted the i5-2410M version but that was not available in Canada but this not the reason why I'm selling.
During the time I ordered the Y570 I got interested in AMD Llano's offering and tried to cancel but it was too late. Now that I'm stuck in the AMD Fusion thread I'd like to give it a go and see how it stacks against a Intel SB + NVIDIA offering.
My intentions was to sell the Y570 after getting the HP Llano tested and Llano turns out to be a waste of time I'll return it but I think I'm not up for returning a opened product just under those circumstances so I've decided just to go AMD and my bro Intel/NVIDIA but in gaming consoles my bro likes Xbox 360 (ATI) and I like to play on the PS3 (NVIDIA).
I like to keep competition close on the market cause it good for us consumers. -
Wow... guys, I'm having problems with some of my buttons and hotkeys, onekey theater and fan mangement are nonresponsive. They still glow when pressed but have no effect on screen or in program, I have reinstalled one key theater to no avail. Volume up down and mute work however, also one key backup doesnt respond anymore either. screen brightness has no gui. Is there a driver i should download that would fix this? because it's very annoying having non-functional buttons on this notebook.
-
You do not need to press them down, they are touch (heat) sensitive buttons to my knowledge with first hand experience like on most Samsung LED TV's.
Have you tried OneKey Recovery to recover to defaults. My bros came with everything working out of the box but I don't think I remember the brightness gui, I only adjusted through Windows Power Management. -
Yeah, they were working perfectly fine earlier today. it's weird that they aren't working and kind of fustrating. I would do onekey recovery but I already have a bit invested already and my last recovery was from very far back.
-
Maybe it's because I didn't update the bios?... but my bios version is 2.05 and the one listed online is 2.03 or 2.04 I believe so i assumed it didn't need updating...
-
Kk I fixed it, seems like the classic BIOS issue, effects XPS's and various other lenovo notebooks. If you guys ever have a problem with hotkeys or the touch buttons not responding simply shut down the laptop and remove the battery for a minute, fixxed all my problems.
