Got my laptop today, and tried to do a fresh Win7 Install via USB thumb drive. However, I got this error:
Missing Cd/DVD device driver ("A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing)
Anyone else have this problem?
Edit: Problem solved. Used a different usb port. I think the thumb drive is bad, doesn't work properly in some ports.
On a side note, which are the USB3 ports?
-
I'm guessing it's the two blue USB ports on the right side of the laptop (on the Y570 anyway).

New drivers for RENASAS USB 3.0:
SONY/NEC/RENESAS Drivers & Firmwares
PS. Firmware should work too if your USB 3.0 firmware is older. -
hey guys
I too have bought y570 from lenovo website and i am not getting no more than an hour of battery (50% charged since I have it in "optimized for battery life mode") life from it. as soon as i unplug the power cord i change the battery settings using the lenovo battery manager to super energy save mode, change the battery setting to "optimized for battery use" and lastly turn off the graphics card by the switch on the front of the laptop. Are you guys really getting somewhere like 4-5 hours on full battery? -
-
Firmware Version 3.0.2.8.0.8 & 4.0.1.5.0.2 (Windows 32 & 64bits) ????
On a side note, no headphone jack problems for me. -
Ive had the y570 for about a month now, The GPU is acting up and games will go from 60+ fps and bog down to about 20-23. and if i restart itll do it agai after i play for about 10 seconds
-
I think firmware 3.x applies to motherboard with Renasas USB 3.0 and 4.x for laptops for Renasas USB 3.0 cause my Y570 shipped with a 4.x firmware.
-
hey guys,
i was just wondering how do you guys keep your laptops clean. Have any of your purchased a cleaning kit? is it worth it? Also, for the y570 how do you guys keep the speakers clean? dust is starting to accumulate in the speakers for me atleast. Lastly, if any of you have the y570 and you play flight simulator x, can you tell me what graphic settings you play on.
thanks ! -
Well it's been barely over a month since i've owned the Y470 and its still doing pretty well. No complaints
I chose not to update any of the drivers and kept everything stock. Additionally when it comes to wanting to download something, then i try to relegate that to my netbook. I want this computer to remain relatively clean
But i have played games on it and it plays flawless for now. I've played Rome:Total War, Dawn of War, and Rise of Nations.
The one game that you could say would put a lot of stress on the computer would be Rome:Total War but it played the game very good.
I havnt ran into the headphone static thing and the right side of the mouse pad area is still pretty warm even when not doing any intense activities on the computer. I suppose it's because that's where the Graphic card is?
All in all, this is a pretty nice Laptop for the price and it is probably capable of playing the higher end games but im not so sure I'd venture into playing those games on this laptop (at least not long-term if I decided to) -
But if you're talking about doing some external cleaning then no i have not really done that. The thing is that occasionally i'll blow into it and i never ever put my laptop on a dusty surface nor do i put it on my bed.
I keep it elevated and well ventilated. -
-
Oh and i meant to ask any of you if you guys know if there's a way to turn on Optimus without using the switch on the front of the laptop?
I'm curious because just in case anything happen (like if the switch broke) then is it possible to do it through windows? -
You could just leave the switch on all the time... and then set all the programs manualy on the nvidia control panel...
-
Additionally, it's funny that i mentioned that i did not have any issues but then in task manager i saw that SynTPEnh.exe was eating up my memory!! I'm talking about more than what Fixefox used to do
It reach damn near 400k of memory usage. So everyone make sure that you update that driver if nothing else.
And go directly to Synaptics website. If this issue was already mentioned then excuse me but i remember reading through this entire thread a while back and it seemed nobody came across this issue -
is it possible to replace the HDD on the y470 with a 2.5" SSD?
-
-
Is it difficult to do the replacement? Do you know if theres anyone to keep both the regular HDD and install the SSD?
Thanks -
Hi All,
I have recently brought this Lenovo Ideapad Y570 -
But the laptop does not boot up in 10 seconds as claimed by Lenovo, it takes 24-25 seconds to start. Can some1 help me on how can I achieve that under 10 seconds boot-up time.
My Laptop's config is -
2nd generation Intel® Core i7-2630QM Processor ( 2.00GHz 1333MHz 6MB ), Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 1GB, 8 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
15.6" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
Integrated 2.0MP Camera, 814GB(750GB SATA + 64GB SSD)
Blu-ray /DVD Combo, 6 Cell Lithium-Ion, Intel 1000 BGN Wireless
Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR, HDMI (Out)
Windows Index is 5.9 for my laptop,
Processor - 7.4
Memory(Ram) - 7.6
Graphics for Windows AERO - 5.9
Gaming graphics - 6.7
Primary hard disk - 6.9. -
small little things i noticed so far about my y570
when i close the lid, my laptop doesn't go to sleep.
i went to start and typed in "Power Options" and clicked on "What closing the Lid does" i set everything (all 4 options) to sleep and clicked apply.
when i close my lid, my computer doesn't go to sleep mode. my monitor turns off, but as soon as i opened the lid the screen turns back on without me pressing anything. it never goes to sleep by me closing the lid. am i the only one experiencing this?
also when i press the power button, my computer does go to sleep. but whenever i want it to come out of sleep mode, i can't press any key on the keyboard to get the computer to wake up. i have to press the power button.
not really crying about it, i'm just used to hitting a random key to wake my computer up, but i guess that doesn't work with the y570 -
-
So when ever i play games my fps will shoot down to about 18 and stay there if i press the silver switch for the graphics it will fix it and make the fps goto 40+ and after about 20 seconds it goes back to 18-25 fps, Any help?
-
Hello. Well i finally got my hand on my y570.
And here's a quick question for you: anyone have/had problems with FPS stuttering? I've installed DE:HR and this thing in unplayable on any given settings, because of the constant stuttering when u run say 2 meters, or turn around. I did turn the switch, and 555m runs the game ( checked with MSI afterburner) but the "gpu usage" graph creates creazy "ilde/peack" readings when the stuttering happens. It happens in DE:HR, and in CnC4, does not seem to happen in Prey. Furthermore -> if I unplug the AC, and run of the battery the DE:HR runs like a champ both on default settings and with gt 555m @ 879/1758/1802. So it seems that whatever is happening, it happenes when the AC is plugged in. I tried to play around with newest nvidia drivers, installed latest Intel drivers, played around with powermanagment -> no use. the "fix" that proposed on lenovo forums regarding the "smart power-saving hard disk" option setting didn't help.
Any ideas? solutions? or my y570 is somewhat broken and I need to send it to lenovo? -
when the laptop was plugged in, games would run choppy and slow. when unplugged games would run smooth. he also mentioned that he could be playing a game unplugged and it's running smooth and as soon as he plugs the charger in it instantly starts to stutter.
i'm not sure if he solved it or what, i just remember reading it in this thread somewhere. maybe if you read through it you'll find a answer. i don't remember what page i read it on so i can't help you sorry. -
being a first time laptop owner, i want to know what part of hardware i can touch without voiding my warranty..I guess popping the panel back in is fine..but can someone tell me what is off limits? -
Wanted to follow up on a previous post of mine. The two USB 3.0 ports are the ones on the left side of the laptop, near the mic/headphone jacks. I figured this out by installing a fresh copy of Win7.
First, you CANNOT use the left two ports if you are installing via USB stick; Windows will give you a driver error. Instead, use one of the two ports on the right side of the laptop.
Second, the two USB 3.0 ports will not work AT ALL after installation unless you install the USB 3.0 drivers.

Right now I've got my machine set up so that Windows and all apps are installed on the SSD with all data stored on the HDD, which seems to be one of the most common arrangements. -
-
-
Hey guys, my fans been making some weird rattling noises /buzzing and the vent underneeath vibrates a little, any ideas? I opened it up and blew some of the dust but it's still happening.
-
Hmmm, what are you guys getting for your temps? I was just playing League of Legends, and my cpu went up to ~80 C. Sizzling .........
-
I assume you don't have that problem ? and it's not whidespread...so do I have to send it back to Lenovo ?
EDIT: the problem does not seem to occur in older games like Sacred 2, prey, Boiling point. ( Sacred 2 is quite demanding, yet works like a champ with and without AC). The problem does occur in CnC4 and DE:HR.
And yes, the change is instantaneous -> unplug the AC and the lag is gone right away. -
-
However, Coretemp always have higher temps indicated, not sure why. -

Wow, I can't believe I did it but I read through all 134 pages of this thread. ._.
I think I'm pretty confident in making my purchase now, seems that problems are either single cases, or negligible for me (headphone static). As long as better drivers in the future can fix potential optimus problems, I'm fine with that.
Here's hoping I get decent shipping time.
@Luis, pleasant surprise seeing you in this forum as well. -
When I saw your name I was'nt sure if it was you or not... lol!
-
Are there instructions on removing the ODD bay and replacing with that product?
Also, does the y470 support SATA 6gb/s? -
-
LoL isn't that intensive of a game though. At least I don't think so...
-
So no one knows how to resolve my weird AC/gaming problem?
-
Other then this solution here, I don't know anymore about the issue from the forums I've browsed.
-
-
I've heard that the lag with games is due to phyx being installed with the nivida drivers. Anyone want to comment on the validity of this statement?
-
As far as 6gb support... I have not been able to find any info on the sata type the motherboard has... but sata 3 drives should be backwards compatible...but it would run @ sata 2 speeds -
It's something to do with powermanagment and driver conflict. Because Sacred 2 pushesh the card up to it max, but with AC plugged it I have constant 99% usage smooth and nice. Then I turn on DE:HR or CnC4 and whenever I make a turn or scroll the screen or run ahead ( depending on the game) I get those micro-freezes where everything will freeze for a second, the gpu load will drop to 0% and then back up to 99% and then back to 0%. When I unplug the AC cord right during the game, it goes back to super smooth and nice, plug it back and bam right away the feezing appears. -
UPDATE
I just found a temporary fix. after looking some more on lenovo forums, I found a suggestion that CPU might be the coolprit...and although I didn't have the same "symptopms" I decided that it might be involved.
So here's what going on : when I turned the "maximum processor state" from 100% to 99% and minimum processor state from 100% to 98% under the advanced power management tab in the CPU power management. All lags vaniched when AC is pluged in. When I put the default 100% back into action the lag comes back right away. When I put default 100% back into action without AC everything works great. So it has something to do with CPU powermanagement going wild.
Now, I will try to contact lenovo tech support tmrw, because I don't think that this should be happening, and my laptop my be faulty or I might need to downgrade bios from ver. 30 to ver. 25 or smght ( because I'm afraid that mailing my laptop to lenovo would be a pain).
But anyway if you want to get rid of the stutteing in games with AC cord plugged in, you need to change cpu power managment states from 100% to 98 or 99. 0_o what is does is that it prevents the multiplyer to go to x26 on two cores, and rather pushes x20 on all 4 cores....so does that mean that my lappy is somewhat faulty afterall? -
I had freezes in Minecraft until I unchecked «Smart power-saving CPU»
http://i.imgur.com/XaNE2.png
I guess this feature works fine for usual internet users, but games are intensive, maybe it freezes up to «check» how it can save the CPU... maybe I'm wrong -
Nah didn't help. My CPU can't handle the x26 multiplier thus effectivly not being able to handle 2.6ghz on 2 cores. After 2 hours of lenovo customer support chatting I'm getting a refund. ehhh ._.
