Hey all. Thanks for the great info and fantastic deals that have been posted here. I was looking at all sorts of laptops, but the Lenovo prices through that Barnes and Noble offer are crazy good.
Then I was torn between the y470 and the y570. Decided to go with the 470 because I find my 15.6" Gateway is a pain to carry anywhere, and I think I'll like the y470 keyboard better. -
Lenovo's customer service is a bit draconian and not as customer friendly as Dell's or a similar company.
I purchased a Y470 several days ago. I ended up getting a 10 percent coupon.
And I ended up talking to a customer service rep to see if I could get a better deal. He quotes me the price on the web site. And I was like I found a coupon online and it gives me 10 percent off the online price. He's like we don't have access to coupons (and I'm thinking how useless this guy is). I tried to see if he could give me a better price, but he couldn't do anything.
So I tell him I'm going to just order it online, but he's insisting on getting credit for it, so I tell him to send me an e-mail and I'll give him my purchase info.
So a day later when these deals started getting posted up, I email him to see if he could apply them to my order.
He's like he can't stack coupons or apply the discount to my order. So I was like cancel the order. Lenovo doesn't allow order cancellations once they're submitted. And with their return policy (15 percent restocking fee), it's just pointless to send it back, since it'll just end up costing the same.
Kind of frustrating, but I'm sure the Y470 will be a beast. -
spiderjericho-
Sales reps cannot add coupons to the quote they give. (Must be a rule they all must follow.)
You can get a price match done if you see a better deal in the future. (Up to 21 days.) -
For Post-Sales Inquiries:
Please call 1-866-42-THINK (1-866-428-4465) Monday - Friday 9am - 7pm (EST)
And tell them about the price quote of $859 on the Barnes and Noble using that coupon, they'll match it?
If so, this is great news, as it would take off about $140 from my order. -
Spider, I feel your frustration in trying to get the Lenovo reps to help drive the price down. I ultimately felt that the price of around $725 or so (including $60 tax!) was a pretty fair price for the machine. The margin can't be that great at that low price and the reps just aren't empowered to throw in a free copy of Office 2010 or any other inducement.
I can tell you that you can cancel your order as I just last week canceled my Shop Lenovo order for an Edge E420s for my wife. The ship date was too far out for me so, I bought the same machine the next day (for $30 more) from Buy.com and phoned in to cancel the Lenovo order (Twice!). Even though they clearly documented my cancellation attempts, China still shipped and Lenovo has dutifully sent me a mailing slip to mail the computer back to them for free (look for it in the clearance section for Lenovo USA soon!). No big deal to drop it of for free at UPS. -

Hi guys, this laptop made me sign up for the forum Xo.
I was reading a thread here about how the screen quality on the T520 is a lot better than the one for the T420 and another model also had a worse 14'' screen.
Has anyone seen both the Y470 and Y570 screens? Is the Y470 screen good? Worse than Y570? Laptops...tricky business! -
Anyone know how hot the y470 runs at while doing standard stuff and also gaming (or other gfx intense task)?
-
dmdmdmd,
They already shipped out the system. I'm going to call tomorrow or Tuesday (if they're not open tomorrow) and get a price match.
If they do using the above coupon, it would save me $150. If only I didn't live in California and this would be a great, cheap mid-end system (the only lacking component is the graphics card, but only the Alienware 14X has a better graphics card in its size range). -
Hey guys, I been trying to decide on a new laptop and I am pretty set on getting a ideapad y series.. especialyl with all the coupons etc (one of which ends by the 31st - 2days). I priced out the y470 and y570 and manage to get both at same price of 853 with similar options. The only default differences (which u cant change) is the 14 vs 15.6inch screen, weight 4.85 vs 5.95 and gfx card nvidia 550m vs 555m. Cant tell if there is a battery life difference.
I also forgot to mention one thing, I am trying to decide for sure if the i7 processor is worth over getting a i5. Its about 200~ dollar difference.
I got to decide today or tomorrow so i can get this at the discounted price... I want it to be somewhat portable but at same time seems real nice that extra video card and screen. help me decide -
I just purchased mine with the coupon above. It will discount it an additional 20% on top of the sale going on in may, which you get directly from the lenovo website. With this coupon I was able to upgrade to a higher model than I had planned on purchasing! : ) Happy hunting! -
@sammino
I was in the same boat. I went with the 14" b/c I currently use a 15.3" and I find it hard to just pack in a backpack and its weigt is also a hinderance to me. Though, if those things are not a concern for you, I would go with the 570 because the 555m is far superior to the 550m if you check with benchmarks. It'll play most games today at higher or highest of graphic settings with decent fps, unlike the 550, which will still play most games, but will need to be at lower(medium) settings for some to achieve a playable fps. My knowledge is limited about technical stuff but can I ask what are the advisable temps while gaming? not gaming? Planning to use this primarily for gaming but I dont want it to overheat. Heard good things about the y570's temps because of the big cooling fan inside. Im asking just to make sure it doesnt overheat.
Do you know how to overclock the GT555m in this laptop without overheating? Planning to squeeze every little juice in this laptop. Heard about the MSI's afterburner which can be used for overclocking. I just want to overclock but I also want low temps/acceptable temps.
And what do you think should I install or update drivers/bios when I receive this? Antivirus/spywares anything? Sorry for sounding like a noob. Im not really good at this.)
Thanks.
BTW, if anyone is interested, I just saw a review of the Y570 in youtube.
Here's the link:

I am not so sure if it will be a hindrance for me or not.. The thing is I tend to like to use my laptop on my lap or laying back. Currently using an Asus 14inch and its a good size but I really do like the features on that 15inch with rapid drive and 555m. I tried out a 15.6 of a friend to see how it would be to use but I did not get a fair assessment because his laptop has an extended battery (the battery i would have is the regular one). Its tough to choose because I got rest of today and tomorrow I think for that one coupon says ends 31st. Does that mean it ends on that day or after that day?
Here are the two specs i am considering:
Y470
Core i7 8gb 550m 500gb 7200rpm
$850~
Y570
Core i7 555m 64GB SSD + 750GB Rapid Drive Blu Ray
$970~ -

i'm still stuck on whether or not the 14'' screens in this model are inferior to the 15.6'' models like some other lenovo models
i'm also bummed the 15.6'' model with the i5-2410m doesn't have a 7200rpm hard drive. Everytime i think about getting a 15.6'' model i remind myself that i want to use this for college/on a lap and 15.6'' is too big but that 555m graphics card is so attractive. -
Do these laptops come with AC chargers or do I have to buy one in addition to buying the laptop?
-
It should come with it
-
I am going to get the Y570 Core i5-2410. Will cost ~$720 shipped (in US), using coupon from LogicBuy Lenovo Coupons: 20% off ThinkPad & IdeaPad Laptops (U-series, Y-series & Z-series) - LogicBUY . I am looking at an MSI with same CPU but with integrated graphics for $550 @ Office Depot (found on LogicBuy MSI A6400-042US 15.6-inch Core i5 2.3GHz Laptop - LogicBUY , but I really think the discreet GPU is worth it. Also, there is a 2.0MP webcam! That's the highest MP cam i've seen on any laptop. Really looking forward to my new machine. I will be buying a 3 year warranty, with accidental from SquareTrade to protect my investment.
I would love to see a review (in English!!) soon; if there is no such review posted in the next 2 weeks, I may have to do it myself when my laptop arrives!
ps I don't know if I'm posting this correctly (I clicked "Post reply" although I'm not replying to any specific post) -
Basically, its either the 14inch for me or the 15inch with the rapid drive.. It seems for the bit more its worth getting that much more performance.. Though right now I am use to a 14inch laptop so I wonder how much of a transition it would be to go to a 15in especially on my lap, also that they both have the same resolutions and I am guessing roughly the same battery life.
-
I went with the smaller one because of the faster hard drive, and simply because although a 13.3 to 14.0 inch isn't that big of a transition, 14.0 to 15.6 is huge. It's enough to add a numpad to give perspective
Yes, the GT555m is attractive, but right now I'm using an external 5870 on my M1330, and it gets 8500 3dmark06, versus 8800 for the GT550m. I can already play almost every game on max settings with the 5870, maybe with shadows turned off and not for games like Crysis, Far Cry 2, and badly optimized games like Bad Company 2. The GT555m should be the same.
Once I get the Y470, I can hook up my 5870 to it, and it will show almost 35% increase with the 3dmarks (expecting around at least 15000). -
Thanks
Also, did any of you realise that the y570`s gt555m comes with 96 cuda cores only, because it has gddr5? The ddr3 version has 144...
Check the specs: GeForce GT 555M -
Hi. For all those who have Y570 already,
1. How is the gaming performance?
2. Can you please post the specs of the gt555m in the lenovo y570?
Thanks. -
Vsz,
I am not familiar with cudas, is that good or bad? lol
I am about to pull the trigger on the y570 since its really only one pound difference for a much bigger screen, better video card and has the option for the rapid drive which will increase overall system performance dramatically. -
There is a huge difference between using a sandy bridge laptop and using a non-sandy bridge laptop for a DIY vidock. You have twice as much bandwidth, and the processor is a lot less bottlenecked. For example, My M1330 with a 5870 (4GB RAM and a T5750 Core 2 Duo) attached only got 8500 3dmark06's, but recently someone did a DIY vidock with their XPS 15 (using a radeon 5870) which has an i7 2720 and 6GB RAM, and they got slightly higher than 18000 3dmark06's. -
I cant find any reviews on the y470.. Anyone able to find out the battery life?
-

GT555m with DDR3 has 144, but GT555m with GDDR5 only has 96...
Same as a GT540m with DDR3. Probably the clocks are higher, but still.
I was really leaning towards buying the y570, but now I might stick to the dv6 600x series with the ati 6770m.
Thanks ruhtraeel for the link, I will look into this as it might change the price range of the laptops that I am looking at... -

Hey. For those of you who are looking for an indepth review of the benchmarks and the temperature of the y570, check this out:
http://www.notebook4game.com/web/46886/preview-lenovo-ideapad-y570-???????-????????/
Just use google chrome to translate.
Awesome temps when in full load. -
Ended up pulling the trigger and ordering it yesterday fully loaded. the y570. Though its says "In Process" for status since yesterday. Not sure if thats normal lol.
Btw gio, even with google chrome translating, i cant figure out where it talks about temperatures lol -
Anyone know if the motherboard supports SATA III? I am looking to put in an SSD so wanted to know if it will support SATA III SSDs.
-
Alright Gentlemen,
Lenovo is trying to pull a fast one on me. They're saying they do not want to price match.
The reason they're stating is because I used Amazon Payments as my payment method instead of directly giving them my credit card #.
I think it's b.s., as I made the order via their web site.
I've called them and complained and spoke to a supervisor, but I'm not sure how far that's going to get me. -
http://www.notebook4game.com/web/46886/preview-lenovo-ideapad-y570-???????-????????/2/
there is pic in the bottom and an article talks about temps of y570 in idle and full load.
maybe you didnt see the page numbers at the end of the article before the comments section. the preview has 5 pages.
I think the temps of the y570 is great even in full load because it doesnt reach the 80 degrees celsius in the cores and the gpu.
Cannot wait to get my y570. any other reviews you found? -
Hey guys! I ended up going with a y570 i5 (second tier model) and actually just joined the forum for this thread! I decided to go wit the 570 over the 470 because I already have a portable netbook, and seeing as the bttery life is somewhat the same, more screen real estate, number pad ( I love my binds ) and better graphics sold me. In case you're wondering, I paid about $670 which came up about to $720 w/ tax. Hoping I got the best powerhorse for my buck...
I'm a little concerned about the driver issues, from what I can make from google translate some of them in thailand have had hanging issues? and v270.61 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | OEM Mobile - LaptopVideo2Go Forums would be the driver to upgrade to (along with those on lenovos support website?...)? I'm not sure. More information would be nice so that when we get it, we can hit all the problems at once.
I'm also a little concerned by the contradicting specs on the lenovo website... I guess I won't know what features are included with my notebook until I recieve it... 0 _ o. When you click on the spec sheet for y570 it gives you a y470 spec sheet, but with y570 specs, what are you doing lenovo?...
Additionally, does anybody who owns it(y570) have a benchmark for batterylife? I know the computer says 5.75 and someone experienced y470 got 5.5 (max), I'm estimating this brings the y570 to about 5h max? Would appreciate a test of the battery life. (wlan surfing, watching a movie, idle, max load, etc.)
One other question, how long do you think this laptop will stay current? I'm hoping to keep it for 3-4 years.
Thanks guys! I will post pictures and a text review when I receive mine. -
Here's an unboxing video of the y570:
YouTube - Lenovo Y570 First Impressions (English)‏ -
I'm kind of concerned for the Geforce 555m gt video card in the y570. It sees like although it's GDDR5 memory, it only has 96 pipelines as opposed to the Dell XPS' 555m gt which has GDDR3 memory, but 144 pipelines.
Which one do you guys this is better? How does the y570's geforce 555m gt compare to the hp dv6's ati radeon 6770's? -
If the laptop really stays this cool, and already has a decent >5 hour battery life I'm wondering if overclocking wouldnt be too heinous.
@flawless gpu alone wise the 555m is better than the 6770, barely. But 6770 out preforms in some areas, but barely. They're very similar. Which do you prefer, ATI or Nvidia? -

Hey, I am keen on getting a Y470. I haven't seen anyone talking about its bios options. So are there many features in the bios? For example, disable/enable cores or HT, ram timing/speed.
I also believe someone mentioned that Y570 has a fairly bright and good contrast screen, but hey, how about Y470, is it going to the same? would be good if someone know the technical detail of its brightness in cd/m2 or nits. Thanks -
Status: Shipped on 06/02/2011
excited! Few more Days!! -
Same for my brothers. Expected arrival date is next Tuesday. Does anyone here mind doing a short review of the Y570? A lot of my friends are asking for laptop recommendations, and I want to make sure that I'm recommending a good machine.

It might help if the title was changed to reflect the fact that the thread also applies to the y570.

Unboxed my Y470 yesterday.
The box packaging is exactly like the Y460.
Visually speaking, the top of the shell has a different design than the Y460. Personally, I don't like either. I wish they would just leave it solid black and having the Lenovo logo on there.
There are two less stickers on the palm rest area (no longer a Dolby Home Theater and a ATI sticker).
The keyboard is chiclet (sp) like the Mac Book versus the classic keyboard style of the Y460. The color of the palm rest is now a sort of bronzish silver versus the solid black of the Y460.
The speaker grills above the keyboard seem longer but thinner.
But the overall design is similar, just refined.
I hope for the next they really work on the design of the Ideapads, but this applies to most laptop makers (except for Apple, some HPs, some Dells, etc).
I didn't go into the BIOS so I can't comment on it.
The default image has all the bloatware we've come to love.
So, I installed Win 7 ultimate, installed drivers, etc.
The Win 7 experience score I got were:
processor 7.4
memory 7.6
graphics 5.9
gaming graphics 6.7
primary hard disk 5.9
My specs were the basic i7 config with the 2630, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, DVD-RW and 550M. The biggest drawback of the system configuration is the hard disk, which can be overcame by getting a hybrid HD or SSD.
So far, I'm pretty satisfied with the experience and performance. If you're a gamer, you're probably better off moving up to the Y570 with the 555m, a 15.6 and up with 560m, a laptop with 6970/6990 or 485m.
For the price, especially with my desire to delve deeper into my Microsoft, vmWare and Cisco pursuits and an occasional game of Street Fighter/GGPO/Solitaire, the laptop is good.
The only negative to the experience was price matching.
Because I used Amazon payments to purchase the laptop, there became a huge issue in approving the price match. I did talk to a call center supervisor and he "says" the price match was approved. I'm crossing my fingers and hope I get back the $146 difference.
If I do get the discount, or someone in this thread buys one with the Barnes and Noble discounts, this laptop is definitely a great smaller powerful machine. -
spiderjericho- How are the speakers compared to the y460?
-
They seem comparable. But I couldn't give you a quantitative comparison. I think they're decent.
But I've never been a big proponent for sound (or I'd get a quality pair of head phones or speakers). -
I am picking my y470 up tomorrow at the UPS store.
Run PC Decrapifyer, make restore images, partition (130 GB Windows, 70 GB Ubuntu, 300 GB shared), install Linux, install programs with Ninite.
Does anyone know what the default partitions are on the y470/570? Obviously one for Windows 7, and a restore (Do I need this?)...anything else? -
turtlefoodasaurus Notebook Enthusiast
spiderjericho question time!
How reflective is the screen and do the fans always run even when idle?
I'm trying to decide between the thinkpad edge e420 vs the ideapad y470, leaning towards y470 because the 550m over intel hd 3000 will let me play a lot more games, like the first Witcher Xo
