i have this but the i3 version. the only place i feel that gets hot is the vent on the left side. palmrest and keyboard stays cool. the only problem im having is since the trackpad is not centered (more to the left), i sometimes hit it accidentally with my palm and my gun fires or whatnot (whatever LMB action is)

Thanks for the replies. Any other insight on this laptop. I am interested in picking one up but am discouraged by what was said in the buyer's forum and the low activity in this thread. Thanks!
-
When u say wemt do u mean literaly went (hot air blowing.) or aluminium surface just above vent gets hot to? If it does, how much?
Trackpad isnt a problem , fn +f something should disable it.
Im concidering y570 with i7(i3 and i5 not avaiable yet) and asus k53sv i7 2670 + gt540m with asus ice cool, also aluminium palmrests, only im concered about asus maight throttle.
So anyone with i7 to share expiriances of bodu temperatures of y570( left palmrest and left keyboard) under 3 hours of gaming! Also i will disable turbo boost when gaming cause i dont need it! Answer fast i need to decide within few days! Thanks
-
I'm considering buying the i3 version of the y470, but I want to know what the battery life is like. At around 25% battery life with Wi-Fi on browsing the web and typing documents, how long would the battery last?
If this laptop will last 4+ hours in this scenario I will buy it for sure. -
Thank you for the BIOS file, it may help many others. I'm going to check it, flash it, test it and then repackage for anyone running an older BIOS. I will update the thread on if AES-NI is enabled or not.
EDIT:
AES-NI is not enabled on 2.08...
I'm attaching a flasher that will downgrade and upgrade, be careful. I have downgraded and upgraded my PC with each of these and my laptop is not a brick. I'm now running a hybrid of EC 2.06_MOD BIOS 2.08 to keep my advanced menus unlocked, to run the same BIOS hybrid as me, unzip and run InsydeFlash.exe in each folder in order. (Only if you are already on 2.06, if you are on a version below 2.06 you can jump straight to the 2.08 file with no issues and only use the 2.06 MOD if you want the menus unlocked.)
Rollback to y570_BIOS203
Official y570 2.06 (use this one or MOD)
Unlocked menus EC y570_BIOS206_MOD
BIOS only y570_BIOS208
Thread with whitelist removed 2.06.
[Unlocked] lenovo y 570 whitelist removal request
Unzip and overwrite and use each one individually. You may receive an EC Flash error, ignore it.
Picture is worth 1,000 words or so they say:
NOTE TO ALL:
What is good for the goose is not always good for the gander, I am going down a path that is against the grain and is not for all, please be careful with customizing in this manner as it may VOID YOUR WARRANTY. I thought I should add that, as well as remind you all of how to get back to OEM BIOS in case you need to turn your laptop in for warranty work, follow the downgrade link above to get back to 2.03. I also want to point out that all of my BIOS packages will not flash to incompatible models or series of laptops. Do not do this if you do not understand what is going on or are not comfortable with it. -
Heat has never been an issue with my PC, I did have a ton of other bugs that I have massaged out. I use my PC heavily and game hard as well. Hot air blows from the copper vent on the left side, other than that it is a solid PC, that is not a complaint as it blows less hot air than my desktop...
-
Many thanks bhoran83.
The file for BIOS 2.08 if like using the official flasher correct, I can do a straight upgrade from 2.06 (not modded) to 2.08 right?
Just wondering what does the 2.06 mod unlock in the BIOS?
Edit:
Renasas USB 3.0 driver update v2.1.25.0 - http://www.station-drivers.com/page/nec.htm
Realtek HD Audio driver update R2.66 - http://www.station-drivers.com/page/realtek_audio.htm -
Hot air blows, thats fine, and normal for 45 watt tdp cpu and 30 watt gpu
What i am concern is " does the heat of notebook peaks on its surface. Does left part of notebook (where cpu and gpu are) so left part of keyboard and palmrests stay cool or it does heat up more or less.."
Thanks
I had a dell from my signature and whole left side gets anoyingly hot under hour of gaming or so.. Thats why im askin ya how lenovo behaves, i had y560 and it could get hot on plastic above wents, does this occurs on y570's aluminium? -
I'll be posting screen shots in the unlock thread the bios was unlocked on, it does unlock a ton of options, some not to be messed with. You can jump straight to the 2.08 BIOS, it may not flash the EC so you will still have the same user input screen as 2.06 with the 2.08 BIOS running in the background, verifiable when entering BIOS as they are both listed on the first page. I'm putting my PC through the same situations today that would normally lock it up and want to see if this 2.08 BIOS helped me out in that area and with my 2.06 Modded EC I may be able to tweak further. I will see what I can do to get a flash-able EC for 2.08.
Is anyone running linux on a 2.08 BIOS factory machine? PM me if yes and I can tell you how to dump the EC.
EDIT:
After a heavy usage day the PC did not lock up or freeze in anyway under the same repeatable conditions it did in the past. 2.08 seems to improve stability for sure as well as add in support for more WiFi cards. Still no AES-NI though.
-
It may get a little warm, but definitely not hot. Most of the heat exits the vents, no heat over them at all. Left of the touch pad is barely noticeably hotter than the right side, but nothing near hot.
-
I tried contacting Lenovo for the official BIOS 2.08 file but no good. This is the only thing I don't like about Lenovo for their IdeaPad line, they don't update their download website with the latest drivers and BIOS updates for their product.
Good thing we have a strong community with lots of talent on this thread but I'd still prefer the official BIOS 2.08 file or one extracted with EC flash. -
I understand completely. Your not going to get a full .bin extraction of the EC flash with Windows unfortunately so hopefully someone with Linux stops in and pays a visit.
The nice thing is that I included a way to return to stock or outdated BIOS so when the official 2.08 comes out I will downgrade and get EC and BIOS flashed.
The EC is nothing more than a special protection of the flash BIOS and they build the user menu into it on InsydeH2O BIOS. Most likely 2.08 with have a renamed 2.06 EC because that part is not broken, how can it be when there are no user accessible options. They will just change the name and roll forward with the same stuff. The BIOS itself is the heart of how things run, in my opinion the 2.06 BIOS was crap and that is why Lenovo never posted it publicly. 2.08 is most likely still in the initial release status and still may need to be proven but it is good enough they feel to ship on production machines. I have noticed my turbo not acting crazy like it did on the 2.06 as well, this may be something that helps others with i7 and funky cpu operations and strange locks and freezes. I have no choice but to go forward on the BIOS as they claim 2.06 is an improvement over 2.03 and my machine shipped with 2.06.
So long summary cut short EC is powerless and is superficial, they only bump it to match BIOS version and do not make changes to it.
That all said I'm still trying to figure out a way to get my hands on 2.08EC to confirm. I posted a screen shot of HWiNFOx64 listing my bios as the 2.08 just to show the flash is through and through, HWiNFOx64 does not check the EC version as it is not important. -
Guess I'll wait for the official then. I also know there's a BIOS 2.07 apparently only for the Y471A?
BTW, GeForce is not spelled correctly in your Sig. -
no. the aluminum restpad only gets warm because your wrists are on it. mine has never gotten 'too warm' or hot
on another note, does anyone know how to fix this weird keyboard issue i'm getting randomly? i'm not sure what i'm pressing but after it happens, i can't type anything and when i press a key, its like i'm holding the ALT button (eg. in Chrome, i press 'F' and it opens up the find bar; press 'D' and it faves that page).
very annoying...the only way i know how to fix it is to reboot -
Is it StickyKeys?
When I game, it blows a LOT of hot air out. I could feel the heat on the table where the vent is, but the laptop itself is a lot cooler. It's funny how that spot on the table is hotter then the part UNDER the laptop. -

Is it possible to swap out the wireless modem receiver in my y570 and replace it with a modem/receiver that can do 5ghz band? There is too much interference in my building at the lower frequency.
Thanks. -
if ur talking about wifi card then yes, just check compatibility, i think lenovo blacklists-whitelists mini pcie ssd's, dont know if that is case with wifi cads too..
-
for mini pcie SSD there is no black-list (in fact for mpcie there's no white-list at all, you can put ANY long form mini-PCI-E card...) ; for WiFi there is a white-list. As a quick recommendation, buy an WiFi card ONLY from Lenovo as spare parts (quite expensive) or mod your BIOS to have white-list disabled. I know from personal experience, I've brought an ebay Centrino (official) 6205 and is not working. An engineered sample 6205 (ebay also) IS working. Quite stupid...I know!
PS: It's easier to have a white-list with few cards than a black-list with thousands
-
oh, then im sorry for misleading, when i had lenovo y560 on official forum of lenovo guys were telling some ssd's wouldnt work due to blacklisted(not beeing on whitelist)
anyways, can anyone of you confirm these body temperatures of lenovo from this russian review - link is below with google translate, u'll find table with temps, and if those are true this one goes up to 48 C wich is quite a lot...

I've disabled all that accessibility stuff...

I was thinking about to buy Y570 but that static noise and hinge problems are confusing my head..I am waiting for Asus N55SF,not yet entered the market in Turkey..But i think it will be nearly 500 $ difference with lenovo :/
-
I'm unaware of any hinge problems with the Y470/Y570...
There's a fix for the static noise that reduces the static, it's still audible but barely after the fix.
For the price, performance and features the Y470/Y470 offers it's hard to be beat unless you absolutely must have a higher resolution screen. -
thatdoesnotcompute Notebook Enthusiast
I have had my y570 for roughly 1.5 months and I have yet to have any static issue. Could it be resolved?
The hinge works perfectly. I'm really satisfied with the product -
I think you are confused, the Y560 has a weak hinge and the Y470 has the static issue. Y570 seems to be solid other than a few bunk GPUs early on.
-
There is a thread on another forum about how to disable the whitelist on InsydeH2O BIOS, the 2.08 BIOS adds a few cards to the list. The mod is not hard either if you are computer literate.
General method to remove whitelist from Insyde BIOS
Also there is a request out for a whitelist mod on the 2.06 BIOS currently in test phase.
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Test-lenovo-y-570-whitelist-removal-request
As always with any BIOS mod go slow, read everything, be careful... -
Hey guys, I had my Lenovo Y570 for 3-4 weeks now and overall this laptop is great! But, last night my Microphone stopped working because when I would talk to someone on Skype or Steam, all they would hear is static and I would hear them perfectly. So, I called Lenovo support and they said there is something wrong with the Microphone inside the laptop. So now I have to send it in to Lenovo and it is going to take 7 business days to get it back...
-
7 business days is better than the two weeks they promised me for a bad GPU replacement. Sounds like a good deal. Luck of the draw my friend. I'll be on the lookout for the same issue on my PC.
-
Yeah I guess it's pretty short but I need my laptop for school and I can't afford to miss out on my schoolwork.
-
Should be getting in my Y570 sometime this week, and I've been reading this thread for a few weeks now. Didn't come across the question of whether anyone would happen to know is Lenovo's 'Enhanced Experience' actually helping with booting faster, or does a completely clean install boot faster?
-
If your up to the task, I'd suggest hunting down the latest drivers and doing a fresh re-installation. Of course for comparison sake, use the laptop at default for a couple weeks first then if you've decided go for the re-install.
-
I have the Y470 and have no static issue whatsoever. I don't even hear anything if I crank volume to max on my cheapo earbuds with nothing playing.
-
Well I was thinking of making a DVD and network backup right out of the box, then timing the startup time (with firefox and word thrown into the mix). Reformatting and then timing that.
Although the whole thing is that I'd like to use Professional instead of Home Premium, and the key I have isn't an upgrade key (that I know of). -
purchase a cheap external mic to use until the quarter/semester ends and then send it back. $10-$20 is worth it if going without your laptop will negatively affect your grades.
-
Same here. No static issue. The headphones I use is the Sennheiser px90.
-
That stinks, you could always buy an external microphone and keep on rolling until break. How long is your warranty good for? Can you send it in for repairs just before spring break and get it back after?
'Enhanced Experience' is nothing more than an automated msconfig editor, it disables boot up services to get you to a working OS faster. You can install it on a clean installation and trim your boot times as well. Lenovo's version of Windows seemed to have bugs and I prefer to run professional with XP mode (hence why I have a laptop with Intel VT). I suggest a clean install but do a one key backup first in case you want to return to the Lenovo version of Windows. -
Yeah that's one of the many things I do need from Windows 7 Professional. So if I do a one key backup first, I can literally nuke the whole drive, including deleting the partitions, and then at a later date basically restore everything to factory settings?
-
Maker a default backup DVD first. I'm pretty sure it restores the partitions even if you delete them, with Acer and Toshiba it does.
-
Correct. Also, you can manually recreate the partition and place your one key recovery copy there after you do the format and fresh install so you can go back and not worry about scratching/losing your backup medium. I keep all kinds of .iso files on my server just so I can go back to any state on any of my machines.
-
Update on the modded 2.06 BIOS with whitelist removed and unlocked menus, the BIOS is confirmed working.
[Test] lenovo y 570 whitelist removal request -
Well I tried to use a external microphone but my friends still heard static. Is the external microphone directly connected to the microphone in the computer.
-
Strange, so you have interference possibly affecting your internal components. Can you record the audio and replay it? Is the static the same with with external mic as with the internal? Have you tried different mics? Are you sure you changed the mic input off of the internal mic in the voice chat settings?
This is unique. -
I have tried all those ideas and none of them worked. But, it looks like I am sending it tomorrow for repair. Well I guess I have to use my old 2007 HP laptop for school for the next week...
-
Has anyone found out why the onekey theater software is not listed on Lenovo's site for the Y570 in the software downloads section? Will the onekey theater from the Y560 work?
-
It'll work... from the brief moment I used my laptop with a fresh install, I used software from the Y460 since the Y470 didn't have half of the programs in the download section.
-
LOL...
My Y570 came with a programs and drivers backup partition made by Lenovo which I backed up onto a USB external after checking on Lenovo's website half the software is missing for download. -
I have the original partition ISO format just did not want to dig it out of my server. I am out and about and wanted to just download directly as it would be most convenient. I don't really know what is so funny about the question... It may help others in the future anyway so it is a positive constructive note for future readers, no need to be smug about it... and yes that is a smug post as it does not add anything to the conversation that is positive, helpful, or constructive.

@ bhoran83
The comment wasn't directed at you. My bad for no clearing things up. -
Bhoran, can you please share some photos with new unlocked BIOS menu? I'd like to know what can be changed. Also this BIOS MOD is only for y570 or could be used on y470? Many thanks!
-
better use this - updated software (2011-06-27) on Z575 download drivers page for Lenovo EE Boot Optimizer, Lenovo OneKey Recovery, Lenovo Onekey Theater and SRS Premium Sound.
