At what percent is the battery at... if its around 45~50% then you could probably have best battery health selected in the lenovo power options... Also, my Y470 PSU LED is yellow...

I decided to buy the y470 laptop after reading many reviews on this and seeing the overall positive response to this machine. I received today and so far, so good. I love the keyboard, except for the pgdn button being so low. The one button mouse is okay, but I'm sure I will get accustomed to it. I think the screen is above average. Viewing angels are below average vertically, but pretty good horizontally. I like having the ability of having a graphics card because I do game sometimes.

One thing I wish to convey to everyone is for those who buy the dual core version, I insist in getting the extra battery when configuring the system (i believe the unit number is 6225 or something like that). The reason being is that the extra battery is a 62whr (instead of the 48whr it ships with) so I have that in my i5. I think I can get 5+ hours with this battery (based on initial usage) so I am happy I got it.

Hey, I hadn't noticed that. I got the extra battery just in case not knowing it had more capacity. Nice find.

I agree w/ the placement of the Pg Up/Dn keys. I think I get it wrong half the time. very annoying. One thing I don't like about the touchpad is that it uses stock Synaptics drivers which do not support middle button simulation. I wish Lenovo would fix this.

I found a solution right in this thread that works for me while playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution in High Performance power mode:

    1. Control Panel > Power Options
    2. Select 'High performance' if it isn't already selected and then click 'change plan settings'
    3. Click 'Change advanced power settings'
    4. Scroll down to 'Processor Power Management' and change the minimum and maximum processor state while plugged in to 98% and 99% respectively (i.e. not 100%).
    5. Click OK, then save changes.

The poster who originally suggested this gave a full explanation so you can search the thread for that post to understand why this may work. I know it solved the lag for me.

I finally got my laptop! Took 18 days from ordering to arriving at my doorstep (in Canada.)

So far I'm pretty amazed. Display is nice, keyboard is so comfortable (I guess I worried too much about the bilingual keyboard, not too bad)

Touchpad button is the only con right now, but I'm planning on getting a good portable mouse soon anyways.

One funny thing, it's saying I have a BD-ROM Drive (F: ) when my configuration didn't mention that at all. Did I get a freebie? (Not like I would use BD ever anyways though)

Hmm, I can't seem to find the exact model number on my laptop or the box itself. Just shows the 0855 under Model. And it seems that none of the Y470s on the Canadian site has a BD drive in the first place. Oh well, the rest of my specs are the same, so I'm not complaining.

Has anyone upgraded the wifi card in their Y470? I wanted something that can handle the 5ghz band for my dual band router and was looking for a compatible card I can pop in there that will work with all the built in antennas..

    Hi guys,
I have a 500GB y570 , and wanted to know what partitions come as standard on the disk.

I installed ubuntu through wubi, and have quite a melange of lenovo partitions and can't figure out which is which. Also, which of the partitions would be required to keep the 1 key backup feature enabled?

    Got my Y470 - i7-2630QM 2.00GHz, 8GB DDR3 1333MHz, 750GB 5400rpm, Blu-ray/DVD Combo 2 days now and loving it.

I created recovery discs first then did a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate.

No issues found at all, not even the headphones static sound. The screen res could have been better but hey sometimes you can't have it all.

This forum has been very helpful for me. Thanks to all. Big up to Luis_GT, i got alot of info from reading your posts.

If you got the i7 quad core, the standard battery is 62whr. I've read else where it is only 48whr for us i5 folk, and my battery that came with the computer is only 48whr. I don't know why they don't just ship the 62whr with all models.

Can some one run FURMARK + Prime 95 at same time and determinate at what temperature processor starts to throttle? im wondering if guys at lenovo has messed around with that or they left it stock at 100C as intel prescribed ;-)

for monitoring ya can use AIDA 64 stability test or HWInfo ;-)
Im looking to buy this laptop at 700 Euros with i7 processor and im wondering if cpu is throttling! ;-)
    thanks in advance!

Excited, my dad wanted to buy my daughter a pc, so with his funds, I ended up ordering a y470,i7,8gb,500gb laptop. Should be plenty fast for a 8 year old! :) ...and I may borrow it from time to time too- it is (sadly) the fastest pc in our house! ;)

Have to wait now, ordered on Friday and it said expected shipping day is the 23rd....hope it ships faster than that, I did not modify the configuration any....

One question, looks like Intel has a nice 80GB mSata drive, and I was wondering if it would work with rapiddrive if I install that? what kind of performance increase could I expect? I tried to read on this thread, but I only got through 40 or so pages before giving up...

Ps: paid 849+ tax, seems pretty good. Found price on techbargains

Does anyone own a Booq Boa Squeeze? and can a Y470 fit in it?

CNET says the max laptop thickness it can fit is 1.3"
Booq and Amazon say its 1.25"

I'm looking to buy this slim backpack but need to know if my Y470 can fit first.

I would consider alternatives, but bag must be slim and not like a parachute

Hmm, I wonder if my temps are normal. I'm hitting 45-50C+ on light browsing only on the Standard cooling. Setting it to Efficient thermal dissipation lowers it to 40-45C.

Can a Y570 owner tell me how the webcam on it is? I was reading reviews on Newegg and one of the reviewers said the webcam is abnormally dark.

If somebody could provide a video sample filmed with the Y570 webcam, that would be even better.

I'm facing a peculiar issue here, and a cursory google didn't help much.
My laptop is unable to connect to my college wi fi in Win 7 64 bit, however is able to connect to the same network in Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit.
I just downloaded the drivers, and will try to update once I get back to windows, but is there anything else I can try?
I tried doing system restores but that didnt help.

Connecting to networks is a tricky thing. I've hated it ever since I started using laptops, it just seems to work somedays flawlessly and then nothing the next. Not sure if its a problem with the settings, the network, your location, etc.

I've noticed that the estimated battery life time is rather unreliable. Somedays it'll say 90%+ is 4-6hours, now its saying 90%+ is just around 3 hours. :|

I have a working unlocked bios on my machine now. Did not enable option to turn on AES-NI. If you are already running 2.06 bios you will need to downgrade with a flasher that does not check version, then upgrade to modded 2.06.
    [Confirmed] Lenovo Y570 V2.06

If you like the BIOS please consider donating to the person who unlocked it - camiloml - it is good work after all.

That would be fantastic if someone finds a way to enable AES-NI. Who knows when Lenovo will actually get around to releasing a new BIOS version, let alone one with a feature that should have been available from day one...

I think BIOS 2.08 has AES-NI enabled, though I'm uncertain. Lenovo's W520 got a BIOS update late August that enables AES-NI on the W520. If my guess is correct, then the Y470/Y570 has AES-NI enabled in BIOS 2.08 which was first seen late August also: ±íʾY470 BIOSÓÖÉý¼¶ÁË¡º2.08¡»£¬ÔÝʱֻÊÇԤˢÔÚ½üÆÚÉú²úµÄ»úÆ÷ÉÏ£¬ÒªÈ¥¿Í·þÄà - Lenovo ÁªÏëÓû§¾ãÀÖ²¿ - Windows8|Windows7|ÖÐÎÄ|Æì½¢°æ|ϵͳÖ÷Ìâ|ÏÂÔØ|ÃÀ»¯

Now if someone can read Chinese and get a hold of the official BIOS file 2.08 for the Y470/Y570, we'll all know for sure...

    Hi guys,

There seems to be a good deal at Lenovo right now for the Y470. However, in the buyer's advice forum, people seem to think this laptop has a lot of issues and was hoping you guys could shed some light. Is the y470 a solid laptop or do most of you have buyer's remorse?

Also, is it a relatively portable/light notebook?

    Thanks a lot!

Can you take a dump of your BIOS and post it? I can repackage in an installer and share that with the community. I need to know if it has AES-NI enabled or not though, can you check with HWiNFO64.

If you could dump your BIOS into a .bin file using the Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit. Please read the below post via link. After dumping please post on here as an attachment if you could.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/7703971-post1.html

Also CPU turbo is automatic, I doubt there is anyone who could use this machine to full power 100% of the time so processing speed is not going to be a bottleneck on these machines.

I have a runcore sata 3 drive on order from mydigitaldiscount, and it is supposed to be in next week. They have agreed to let me try it to see if the msata port is sata 3 capable. Given what I have read about the Thinkpads, I expect it is the hard drive and optical drive bays which are the 2 sata 3 ports, but I will determine it for certain next week, when the drive arrives.

edit: folks at lenovo said HDD is on port 0, and mSata is on port 1, so it is looking like sata 3 is likely.
