At this point, I think the new upcoming Samsung Chronos look really good for the price, performance, style and size plus the resolution is 1600x900 on 15.6" screen.

Rumor is the new Samsung Chronos comes with the soon to be launched 750GB Momentus XT with 8GB/NAND.

I currently own the y470 with core i5 and 4gb of ram..I played the battlefield 3 beta and checked online and realized that the game needed 2gb of ram..The game run fine but when I had chrome and a few tabs...it lagged here and there but nothing serious (maybe it was my connection)..I was trying to find instructions on how to upgrade the ram in y470 to 6gb and which ram (brabd) to buy

    p.s. I am a noob at this

    @ kobby2k6

You're better off getting 8GB instead of 6GB for $20 more. This way you'll get true dual channel instead of async dual channel with 6GB. The brand shouldn't matter too much, just make sure you get DDR3-1333.

i did every steps you mentioned in your tutorial...always rebooting after each bios flashing, checking it, but 2.06 mod you link does not work for me. so now i get the 2.06 mod from camiloml's bios directory and it works like a charm!
for warranty i need to proceed the same way but flashing official 2.06 bios... i get it!
now 1 more working unlocked bios! tks to you and camiloml!
BTW, can i use bios RAID function on this model with msata+sata? i removed all lenovo customized partitions to install W7 ultimate and now i have 64gb ssd + 750gb sata on separated partitions...
i'd like to use 1 single RAID disk with 2 partitions: 1 of 200gb and another for the remaining space... is it possible?
ps: before all this i created the recue disks in case of emergency!

This static noise coming from the headphones is quite annoying. Has anyone come up with a solution to get rid of this?

I just got my replacement i7 version of the y470 and it seems to be worst than my i5 version.

Hey, this is what you do to reduce the static (Make sure you have headphones plugged in) :

Go to Realtek HD Audio Manager, then you double click that green circle on the left side of the Speakers tab under Analog. When the windows opens, click "Line out" and pick "OK".

how can i delete that 14.75GB partition or shrink it to D disk, so i can have one ~698 GB partition instead of two partitions of 683gb and 14.75? When i press on 14.75gb partition all i get is HELP function/option. and d: disk option of EXTEND is grayed out. C: is ssd. Thanks a lot

I used a GParted Live USB to edit the partitions on the mechanical drive after I installed my SSD. It's a fairly straightforward process.

Hi guys, new to the forum, I am really interested in buying a Y470 that is on sale. I have one question though, does the y470 model 085534U have the mSSD already installed? How big is it 32 or 64 gigs?

    Thanks!!

Can't help ya with that one... PC Wizard doesn't tell what exact chipset is... all I can tell you is that it's Revision 04... but seeing as it reports to have support for 4 ports... I suppose it has this one

Check to see if the one key recovery button works... I'm not positive on this... but I think that's the partition for the recovery software... don't quote me on that, since I haven't deleted mine yet...

How many ports is your's detecting? Maybe they used different chipsets, so far no program has been able to identify the exact chipset in mine... but all say that it's capable of supporting 4 ports, by process of elimination, that would make mine µPD720201

This may have nothing to do with the audio Static, but considering mine doesn't suffer from it, and looks to have a different 3.0 chipset... who knows if that's the real cause of the static...

Well, first of all, you need two hard drives. You'll have to remove the DVD rom drive and replace it with another hard drive.

Then you'll have to unlock the bios to see if there actually IS a feature to enable raid on the Y570.

You're really just better off getting a MSata drive and using the Hard drive as a storage drive.

no it doesnt work, and it should not because as soon as i got my y470, i did fresh install, i never installed one key recovery software, and i also deleted lenovo partition, i think it was like 25gb, and this one... 14.75 gb. i simply dont need it.

First, you cannot have a RAID configuration like you are describing on any PC (please research RAID Arrays), second off you will not benefit from a RAID array as SSD is much better faster technology, third the BIOS has the option but it is not physically supported on this laptop (no onboard RAID controller) so I would ignore the option.

It works just fine, the partition does not matter. One key recovery is just software and is not limited by partitions as you can tell it where to store the backup. I have it working just fine with no recovery partition, the recovery is stored on my primary partition and functions just fine.

There is a screen replacement service that will try and if not successful they will not charge you. You will need an unlocked BIOS to change the default resolution.

For anyone who cares. I have determined the following about the SATA system in the y570. SATA ports 0 and 1 are 6gb/s (SATA3) and ports 2-5 are 3gb/s (SATA2). I do not know about the physical representation of ports 3-5, but port 0 is the mSata slot, port 1 is the HDD, and port 2 is the Optical bay.

I installed my Runcore SATA3 60Gb mSata card, and ATTO benchmark was right around 500 MB/s on larger files, which mirrored the results found in this review:

Runcore T50 6Gb/s 120GB EXCLUSIVE mSATA SSD Review - The Worlds First 6Gbps mSATA SSD Hits The Streets - The SSD Review

If people want i can conceivably post my results too, but they were almost identical to the reviewer's.

So I have called and researched but I still can't find what I wanted so I am turning to this thread again :p

I have a Canadian English/French keyboard which quite frankly is inoperable, due to shift being shorter and enter being in the wrong spot.

Does anyone know where I can order a Y570 US English keyboard? When I call IBM/Lenovo parts the serial number I give them from the maintenance manual doesn't exist (it's not even formatted like a proper IBM/Lenovo FRU number). OR does anyone have a Y570 in the US that could give me the 'true' FRU number of your keyboard? Thanks in advance :)

Hi guys, longtime lurker here finally got a y570, grabbed it from costco.ca for $730 (recently dropped in price from 850), probably more than I would have paid for it on Lenovo+Coupons but Costco's warranty is pretty amazing and I get 90 days to mess around with it to see if I like it.

I ordered the i5/4GB/750GB-HDD version, picking up the package tonight!

I have searched and read most of the posts under this thread, but apologize if I ask a previously answered Q again.

    1. I hear the lenovo base install is filled with bloatware, some useful, some not. I was wondering if anyone on here has a comprehensive list of what can safely be removed. This is what I gathered from posts:
    • AntiVirus trial
    • Microsoft Office Starter trial
    • Veriface
    • YouCam
    • ooVoo
    • telephony
any big items im missing? Whats the best way to remove these Windows uninstaller or Revo?

    2. Its October and I have found nothing re Paint Creek SSD's from Intel. I know they will only be coming in at 40/80GB, my Q is would 80GB be enough to house Win7 and Win8 when it comes + software installs and use the 750GB HDD as storage? Is the upgrade worth the hassle? $199 for the 310 series is quite steep I think, I have never had a SSD on a laptop before so if anyone can attest to the price being worth the performance please let me know!

    3. my system only has 4GB of ram, I found an additional 4GB stick online for around $35 which isnt bad at all, just wondering if its worth the upgrade as well, its not much money but if the performance increase will be negligible id rather not.

    Thanks in advance!

This reduces the noise but doesn't get rid of it. I noticed the noise is actually coming from the hard drive-> for some reason it is louder on my replacement pc the with the i7. Some how that noise is transfer to the headset.
