I got it with BIOS v2.09 and EC also v2.09 (from Factory) and already dumped it. I am ready to test modded BIOS but I need to know the exact key combination for BIOS recovery (Fn+B or Fn+R) and the name of the ROM.

If you had additional information of inverse engineering of InsydeH2O BIOS with IDA, please provide me with it. If you have python scripts for modding and unlocking hidden menues.

Does anyone have this problem, I have my mouse connected to the USB 3.0 as well as a USB 3.0 External. When I flick the switch for the GPU my mouse dies and I try to replug it in, it doesnt work. My external keeps going but if I unplug my external it doesnt work when I try to plug it back in.

    Hey everyone! First post here!
I just ordered the Y750 i7 for about $835 with two year warranty from the Lenovo site. I am excited to get it after reading all the reviews here. The only bad thing I have read about it is the screen. But I am not picky with that. Is it the same screen that the Essentials series uses?

I am interested in getting myself a Y570 laptop. I'm wondering how much access do you get in the BIOS. Is it possible to disable the Hyperthreading for example.

    Thanks

I wanted to buy this laptop but the lousy screen held me back. Has anybody upgraded/replaced the screen?

I went to Bestbuy and looked at other Lenovo laptops that are cheaper than the Y series like the essential. And their screens were not bad at all. Some glare at angles but the screen is nice and bright to over come it. Im hoping the Y750 has the same screen.

I just took advantage of the Lenovo weekly deal for the IdeaPad Y570 i7 15.6 screen. Funny, I use the laptop as a desktop replacement, and I had thought I'd buy a small form factor desktop pc instead of the usual laptop. Afterall, I don't use the screen or keyboard, so it seemed like a waste. I didn't want a full size tower. Weird thing is though, there is not much out there in a small form factor pc so, it was back to a notebook. The IdeaPad Y570 seems plenty powerful and I think I'll like it. The screen might not be the greatest, but it'll be plugged into my NEC 23" anyway, so that's not an issue. The Asus that I'm replacing didn't have a screen to die for either.

I was almost going to buy the new Alienware X51, but that seemed expensive for what it is and it didn't even have bluetooth. For 840.00 shipped to my door, the Y570 seems like a wonderful deal to me and I bet I'll enjoy it.

The actual color and image quality are good. The issue is the angles when viewing darker shades like with movies (The Watchmen and Sincity are good examples). Not very good, but can be tweaked to make it better. In the Y470's defense, I noticed quite a few other laptop displays at Best Buy with the same issue, after paying more attention to contrast.

    The net result though:

    Build = A
    Sound = A
    Display = B (tweaked)
Heat = A (Best heat design of any lappy for the price)
Power = A (550 is still a very good mobile card and 2670 rocks)
Noise = A (Quieter at load compared to my M11X and the M14X).
Battery life = B+ (Considering the small battery, the laptop can hang for four hours- shame no extended option).

Bloatfactor = A (this is the least bloat ridden computer compared to other OEMs) and no need to tweak start-up with MSCONFIG (no resource hogs). Most apps that are installed are handy and the ones that are not only take up a small amount of storage.

My sons say the display looks very good and I am being picky.... I agree it looks great playing games and web browsing. Just for movies, the angles are very limited, but the 1366X768 looks fine to me as far as resolution on a 14" display.

    Added:

@onkoskun: Thanks, will test settings when home this evening.

Defragging will not damage SSD drive. It just doesn't do anything for it's performance and wasting it's read/write cycles for no reason. So it should be fine in my opinion.

I have found these two new reviews on the y570. Don't know if they have been posted before on this thread. However, both was posted in Jan 2012.

    Lenovo Ideapad Y570
    Google Translate

The more I look at reviews, the more I want this laptop. Even though the viewing angles are average, the rest is really nice value overall.

Y580 specs have been released, upgraded screen resolution and gfx chip are the biggest things, said to be released in April, so if you can wait a few months that would be recommended.

Does anyone remember a post where someone said they had their y560 repaired, and lenovo simply sent back the new version y570?

Hi, I just purchased a Y570 (refurbished) and the first thing I noticed is that I have 2 local disks under my computer. One is almost full and the other one is completely empty. When I go to install programs, they go to the almost full drive. When I run out of room in that drive, will it just continue on the other one?
    Thanks!

Hello, I just purchased a Y470 laptop, and it said the estimated shipping date is at March 6th. I find that a little odd since the second model which has a blu-ray drive has an estimated shipping date of February 9th.

I was wondering if the laptop I ordered will arrive February 9th instead of the March 6th date. I really don't want to wait one whole month to get my laptop haha.

Well I ordered my laptop on 2/3/12 and it shipped on 02/07/2012 and is expected to be here Thruday night. I am very excited!
This was the $799 version when the sale was going on with i7, 5400 rpm drive, no blu ray.

I finally decided and purchased the y470 and also ordered mydigital discount 64gb msata and should have it within the next few days. I believe the process should be to create the backup discs, install msata drive, update firmware on drive, change boot order in bios, restore from discs, and delete partition after boot up. is that the correct order?

I'm unsure about delete partition step. I don't have any partitions, I just have C: drive with SSD and D: drive with HDD. Lenovo by default comes with many partitions for its recovery and system files but I didn't like that. Messing with those is probably not the best idea.

I'm liking my new Y570 so far. My only dislikes are the stiffness of the touchpad button, and the screen has refused to come out of sleep once so far. Any ideas on the sleep thing are appreciated. Learning to click less in the center is helping with the touchpad button. I love this style of keyboard. The screen, while a bit small vertically, is fine. The best part is that I didn't have to tweak this computer to hell and back to get good performance. It is fast and responsive right out of the box.

I'm not sure about the partition setup on my Y570. It has a 60 gb, a 650 gb, and 30 gb. What is the 30 gb for? It appears to be empty.

Out of the box the 750GB original hard drive has 4 Partitions:
    1. Boot/OS (C: around 655GB)
    2. Drivers/Apps (D: around 29GB and called Lenovo)
    3. 200MB System Reserved (from the Windows 7 installation)
    4. 15GB Initial (Factory) Restore Backup (an OEM Partition)

Regardless of whether you use RapidDrive:
    1. Create those initial/factory backup restore discs using OneKey Recovery no matter what (you will use this in case things go wrong...otherwise to restore back to factory default you just use the OneKey Recovery button and select initial backup. Using the OneKey Recovery restore to the initial factory backup requires the SSD to be disconnected as it needs Disk 0 to be the HDD not the SSD.)
    2. Install the mSATA drive and update firmware if it isn't up to date ( I bought the MyDigitalSSD 64gb too and it had the most recent firmware on it).
    3. Press F2 to enter BIOS upon first startup. The SATA SSD should be the first boot option like you said (for me it did this on its own). Also be sure to set the SATA/IDE mode to AHCI (should be on by default).
    4. Now begin to reinstall windows. You will need a Windows DVD for this. (You can't enter the beginning stages of the Windows installation and mess around with the partitions using the OneKey Recovery backup DVD's or from OneKey Recovery. Using OneKey recorvery will take you straight to the second part of the Windows installation for setting up usernames etc. So use a Windows DVD if you have one, otherwise if u never had an SSD with your laptop when it was new you will never be able to install the OS on the SSD . I guess you could transfer the partition to the SSD if you have no other option?? Or maybe you could remove the HDD and run the recovery DVDs to force it to install on the SSD?). Here you want to:
    - Wipe partition #1 and #3 and then DELETE/REMOVE them so they become one clump of "unallocated space" (i.e. the original OS currently on the original hard drive is removed). This space will be used for personal files if your not using rapid drive. If you are using rapid drive it will become part of the hybrid drive.
    - be sure to install the new OS on the SSD (it will create a system reserved partition on the SSD too during the installation and the SSD should be called disk 0)

If you have done it correctly then on the SSD (disk 0) you will have 2 partitions:
    - Boot/OS
    - System reserved

On the HDD (disk 1) you will also have 2 partitions:
    - The lenovo drivers/apps partition (i.e #2 above at 29GB)
    - The backup OEM partition (i.e. #4 above at 15GB)
    - ALSO on the HDD you should have the rest as "unallocated space".

    Now you have 2 options:
    - DO NOT USE RAPID DRIVE: If you DO NOT want to use rapid drive you should format the "unallocated space" on the HDD (preferebaly during the windows installation) so you can use it for personal files. So now you will have 3 partitions on the HDD. The largest being for personal files now.

    - USE RAPID DRIVE: If you want to use rapid drive leave the "unallocated space" as unallocated on the HDD and proceed with the Windows installation.
After the windows installation you might want to go to "Disk Management" in Windows and check that all the partitions are okay and you have done everything correctly. The "unallocated space" should be the first "partition" on the spinning HDD (i.e. it should be at the beginning of the HDD...if it is not then I'm pretty sure rapid drive won't combine properly). Now run the Rapid Drive Tool after installing the "Rapid Drive" driver in the Applications folder on the D: drive (original partition #2 on the original HDD). Reboot and you should have a hybrid drive. SO your C: drive will now be a combination of your "unallocated space" on the HDD + your SSD (in a single drive and acting as a "big SSD"). If you go to Disk Management at this point there will be an error if rapid drive is working properly and it will not be able to recognise the SSD.

Either way you won't disturb the original Lenovo partitions that you really wanna keep for backup and drivers etc. I hope I made this all clear enough.

Read this for a process of how to reinstall Windows for Rapid Drive (kinda what I said above):

No problem. I'm still torn between whether I should go with Rapid Drive or just use the SSD normally. I like the fact that Rapid Drive creates one big hybrid drive eliminating the need to manage files on the SSD and spinning HDD. Although my write speeds were significantly lower with Rapid Drive. Here are the speeds I've been getting with it under both types of configurations:

Placed an order for a Y470 yesterday from the Lenovo Outlet. It is new not refurbished and was about $100 less than the recent coupon price. There were 10 of them when I ordered, today there are none ;) Planning to install a msata ssd when I receive it, I see there is plenty of help here in doing that :)

I also get the same problem sometimes. My solution is (using my mousepad):

    1. Go to Device Manager
    2. Disable "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller" and "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Root Hub".
    3. Enable both again. (The Root Hub will disappear after disabling, but will reappear when you enable Host Controller)
    4. Exit

This is the only fix i know and its kind of a hassle, but i don't get this problem that often so ill survive :p

My refurbished y470 came in pristine condition, couldn't find one scratch on it! I got a 500gb 7200rpm hdd 8gb ram 2630qm configuration for $700 with no tax via Ebay. Received it within 2 days of ordering it. I am happy I decided on than Lenovo and no regrets here. The screen is nicer than any laptop I have owned previously and have had no issues with it at all. Screen resolution is as high as my eyes can handle comfortably anyways as far as that go's. Just waiting on my Msata drive to ship that I ordered directly from mydigitaldiscount's website. Pretty dissapointed in there service so far though. Ordered it Whensday at 7am and they still haven't shipped. Payed for priority shipping and figured I would have it by Friday since I live in the same state as them but now it's looking like next weekend before I can use it. I should have just purchased msata from Ebay. Ohwell...

Only gripe so far with this laptop is the built in sdcard reader is very slow. I average 1 MB/s on a class 10 card which is too slow to play my hd camera videos because of severe stuttering. I average 15MB/s using the camera with a usb cable.

i followed ur instructions and the roll back was fine from 2.06 that was installed to 2.03.
Then flashed the 2.06 MOD which went fine without any error and then rebooted but there is no difference from the factory installed bios i.e. still locked without any new menus :(
also ran the 2.08 bios and now the BIOS shows version as 2.08 and EC as 2.06 same as urs but no advance menus
there was an error though IHISI: write error in SMI while flashing EC with the 2.08 version
dunno what went wrong any steps would be appreciated
    thanks

My lenovo y570 fell off my bed and now it won’t charge. After careful inspection, it seems the charging port was ‘pushed’ back further in the machine, so it won’t connect at all. I have extended warrenty with a third party company, but I wanna get my data off the laptop before I send it off. Any suggestions?

My idea was to go to a lenovo warranty shop and have them charge my battery (I only need an hour to transfer my files of to an external drive), but all the lenovo places around me are out of business.

Help! I need my data and laptop back lol

That's about average price. I would recommend looking on Ebay for a reconditioned one for atleast $100 less with slightly better specs. Still usually comes with 1yr warranty and looks brand new.

A similar laptop with 8GB of RAM is sold for $789 with Barnes and Nobles Gold Discount at Lenovo website. It will probably ship longer than Newegg though. You can also hunt down lenovo outlet for a good deal on a refurbished model. For example:

    Hello, Lenovo people.

I want to buy my brother a Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 and I would like your opinion on the laptop. He will be using it for gaming mostly and for some web surfing.
Is the 555M a good card and is the laptop powerful and sturdy enough?

    Please let me know,
    thanks. :)

PS: I will be buying it from Greece, probably online, for about 800 Euros.

Emilios, some ppl have been getting BSODs when gaming. I personally haven't, but I've read lots of stories of this happening. I'd say there are some issues there and I'm not sure they have been resolved yet. Looks like maybe an Nvidia driver problem? I'm not sure...

In this thread ppl have also reported it (some of these are single posts and some have the original page...sorry the search function on this thread doesn't seem to be working properly):

For me it has been a great laptop but I don't do much gaming and if I was, then I wouldn't go for this laptop.

Other than the fact that I had to ship it back to Lenovo for repairs after 2 months, the Y570 hasn't given me any problems. My games run fine, it boots fast, etc. I don't get the stutter problem that a lot of people have reported.

Ask me again in a few months.

Guys, who successfully recovered bios on y570, I need you advice. I`ve had BSOD during bios update, and now I have a brick instead of laptop. I used recovery manual for Insyde Bios. I tried PIQY0.bin, PIQY0.BIN, piqy0.bin, piqy0.BIN names for bios from Lenovo site, but with no result. I use my old 1GB Transcend mp3 player formatted in FAT, because it is unable to find USB flash <4Gb. What am I doing wrong and what else can I do for recovery?

I would say you're far more likely to find threads of complaints than praise, since those of us who are having no problems with gaming are too wrapped up in Skyrim to post.

I've put about 50 hours of gaming into my y470 with no crashes.

Well sure, if you want 1080p super ultra mega high settings, a laptop won't cut it. However these machines are more than capable of playing all modern games at acceptable settings for most of us.

Yea Ive clocked in probably 100 hours worth of gaming. Bf3 on high settings, lots of League of Legeneds, and Dolphin Wii emulator. Works great. I played maybe 6 hours of LoL straight yesterday and not a single issue.

I played BF3 on medium-high settings and I got a crash to desktop after about an hr and my Y570 aint a weak model...kinda discouraged me from gaming on this thing. But it's not why I bought the laptop...not even planning to do any gaming on it at all.

I'm one of the many unlucky ones getting BSOD and frozen screen when the system tries to switch over to the video card. I had it sent to Lenovo. Those idiots reimaged my drive, did not even bother to test the system with a game, which I mentioned crashes it every time, and then packaged it up and sent it back. Of course as soon as I installed a game and tried to start it, instant BSOD.

I purchased the laptop at Microcenter and it was while I was in KC for work. I don't live anywhere close to a Microcenter, so there is no way for me to return it. I wish I could just get a refund for the POS. I'm about to call up Lenovo and see what they can do. At the very least I want them to send me another completely new laptop before I send mine in so I at least have something to use for work.

I cannot believe all they did was reimage my laptop. I will never purchase a Lenovo again. Not only did it not fix the laptop, but no one should be forced to use their bloated OS install to have a working computer in the first place. They should have tried to fix the root of the problem and not even thought about reimaging in the first place.
