That is very dumb for whoever did that at lenovo Idiots working everywhere. You think they would at the least put the pc through a stress test.

Yeah, this is completely ridiculous. This company just wants to waste all of my time. I just got off the phone. They ask you every single question I have already answered the last two times I talked with a tech as if they have lost all case information.
They also refuse to send out a new laptop before I send this in. I just want a working laptop, I don't care if it is refurbished. I use this for work and now I am SOL since they are forcing me to send this POS one in so they can work on this one.
Once it gets to the depot I am not even sure if they will actually do anything to fix it. I have told them over and over that the BSOD happens the second the video card is switched on every single time without fail. You would think maybe they would have tested that before.
Like I said, I am never purchasing a Lenovo product again. I have never dealt with such terrible customer service. I have a Y570 if anyone wondered which model it was. I would stay the hell away from this laptop. They are cheap for a reason and I guess this is how I am going to learn my lesson. -
Hmm,
It just occurred to me. When I went to Germany a couple of months ago with my Y570, the CPU and GPU temps were about 10 degrees hotter (spikes up to 95 degrees instead of the usual 85 or so).
Gotta wonder if maybe these multi-voltage power bricks are somehow faulty. Maybe not handling higher voltage countries effectively enough? It could also explain why my motherboard died after I returned (maybe the two weeks of 240V took a toll). -
In total agreement with Stezzus. I bought a Y470P 2 weeks ago and it was defective (really f***ed up) since day 1. I'm returning it for a full refund. I'm almost out of this nightmare, hopefully everything goes well. Thought Lenovo would be better than Acer, but I was wrong.

Is there a link to this 2.09 BIOS update? What does 2.09 fix? I have version 2.08, and I purchased this laptop last summer in august. Is there an updated version?

So I have my mydigitalssd installed and am not getting the results I expected. My startup time dropped by about 10 seconds. I'm averaging 34 seconds. I was expecting under 20 seconds. What are yall getting for startup times?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk -

U got the 64gb version? Let me guess...you have all the lenovo software installed?
I too have the MyDigitalSSD. I reinstalled a fresh win7. I could boot as low as 11 seconds with bare essentials. I installed ALL that lenovo crap on the D partition and was averageing around about what you're getting. I messed around with startup and stuff and got to mid 20s and high 20s. Thought it wasn't good enough so I reinstalled win7 again...and I didn't install all that Lenovo bloatware. You only really need drivers so that all devices are recognised, one key theater and energy management (for the touch buttons). Then I messed around with startup items and services. I also optimised win7 for an SSD ( http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds)...it took a LONG time but I eventually got it down to 19-10 secs. I'm not using RapidDrive.
Are you using rapid drive or just the SSD and HDD apart? Run CrystalDisk Mark with default (random) data and post your benchmarks? Do 5 passes or 3 passes of 500mb. See if your SSD is working properly by comparing these benchmarks to others who have the same mSATA SSD. If you're benchies are better than this than your SSD should be working alright:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...lssd-msata-ssd-64gb-very-bad-performance.html -
I'm getting around 134MB for sequential read and around 82MB for sequential write. I posted my speeds at the link you just posted and am getting about the same speeds as discussed on that forum. Cant post the actual numbers now because on my phone today At work but The numbers are around 250MB read and 220MB write with all 0 data. Does this sound okay? I will wipe my pc and do a minimum install this weekend to see if I can get her boot time down. Do you use the Lenovo boot optimizer?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk -
Yep I use the boot optimiser. It helps at times I guess...Looking at your post in the other thread your speeds seem fine. Looks very similar to mine but ur write speeds are just a tad slower...nothing to be concerned about though.

So I think I may have faulty hardware or some cooling issues with my y470.
I purchased the notebook around Christmas and the specs are:
i7
gt550
8gigs ram
5400 rpm hdd
I've been monitoring the temps while playing games and it seems that my gpu temps are quite a bit higher than other owners are seeing. In Skyrim I am getting temps in the high 80s even after I turned the settings down from the recommended. the recommended settings had the temps reaching the mid 90s. i have tried many more games and the GPU temps are always in the 80s even at the lowest graphical settings. The most recent game I have tried was the first mass effect and with everything turned all the way down/off (even lowered the resolution) and my temps were still in the mid to high 80s. I figured that this notebook would be able to chew through a game made in 2007. I am not using any kind of notebook cooler and have not overclocked at all.
Are these temps normal and im just paranoid/expecting too much out of this notebook? Any input would be awesome!
oh yeah my bios and drivers are all up to date if that helps -
Hey guys I am having a very frustrating issue with my wireless connection. My laptop is unable to connect to the internet at times and when I finally connect I then get randomly disconnected and the cycle repeats. I have the y470, which uses the "Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN" NIC card. My brother has a y460 with the same NIC card and it is fine. I believe the issue with my y470 started around the time I got a new Wireless N Actiontec router from Verizon for my FIOS internet service. I have tried playing around with a few things which include:
1. Making sure I have the latest firmware for the router
2. Updating to the latest drivers for the NIC card on my lenovo y470 (14.3.0.6)
3. Changing Security used from WPA-AES to WPA2-AES
4. Restarting the router
5. Resting the router (which works temorarily)
6. Unchecked "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
7. Double check to make sure transmit power is set to hightest
This may be a router issue, but my brother has a y460 which has the same wireless card and does not have this problem. So, I'm not sure what to do. -
Okay so I got a fresh install with Windows 7 and no rapiddrive this time. I got a boot times down to 26sec average and running alot faster however I can't seem to install the bluetooth drivers. When I run the installer from lenovo's support page, it says no bluetooth hardware detected. And my other problem is windows index score is rating my harddrive 5.9 which was previously rated 6.9 with my msata drive.
Any ideas why the bluetooth drivers arent working?
And how about the low harddrive score under the windows system rating? -
Bluetooth was turned off with the FN Key. This laptop keeps making me feel dumber and dumber.
-
Haha jbrain420 i did the same thing with the bluetooth drivers! For a moment I thought the laptop didn't have bluetooth hahaha. I also had the same problem with the mSATA ssd WEI score. When I just had the SSD it gave me 6.9 (or 6.7 can't remember exactly) but now it won't stop giving me 5.9! So frustrating...I don't know that there is a fix although u can run the WEI assessment manually from command prompt and check ur scores:
- Start --> Search for 'cmd' --> Right Click and Run as Administrator
- type in the prompt: winsat disk -drive C: -
hello guys

I just ordered a Y570 today.
Rep told me 4-5 weeks to have it,, I will wait.
I really hope this piece worth it and I really hope I won't experience any of you guys trouble.
I'm an IT working full time for the governement so computer isn't something i'm afraid off.
-
The Y570 is a different kind of animal.
My advice is not to make wholesale changes to the OS. I don't think the Lenovo OS is as "bloated" as many people believe. Yeah, there's probably stuff you want to uninstall (like for me, it was McAfee, MS Office trial, and a few other Lenovo applications), but I think the OS itself is optimized for Lenovo computers. In the past I would automatically blow up a new computer's OS and install a fresh copy of Windows, but in my opinion I don't think it's necessary on the Y570 (although there are many who would probably disagree with me).
My biggest problem with the Y570 was hardware related, and the motherboard had to be replaced. Whether or not that was a fluke remains to be seen. There are many people reporting various problems with games stuttering and other things, but I've never experienced those problems (and am now at Level 35 in Skyrim) so it could be a small percentage of bad units. -
I 100% agree with you here. I too replaced my OS immediately and then one day got stuttering in games that lead to a crash, then the entire laptop became one gigantic blue screening POS. The MB is being replaced now.
It sucks and it shouldn't be this way. Having to run outdated drivers or a manufacturer OS is far from ideal, but this is what I too would recommend. I also do not recommend purchasing products from Lenovo. I have had a lot of various laptop and never ran into these kind of issues before. -
Hi everyone, I'm enjoying my Y470, but I'm having a little problem regarding my speakers.
Just recently, my speakers have been starting to do weird things. Every once in awhile, the right speaker will stop working, but the sound will still come out of the left one. If I go to the sound settings and change the level for the right speaker, save, test, and then rebalance them, it fixes the problem. However, this gets pretty annoying since I have to do this almost every day.
I have tried reinstalling the audio driver, but it didn't seem to do anything. I have version 6.0.1.6339 of the Realtek High Definition Audio driver. I tried searching for an update, but there didn't seem to be one.
Has anybody else came across this problem? Anybody know how I can fix this?
Thanks!
P.S. If it matters, I frequently plug my computer into speakers using a headphone-to-RCA cable. When my computer is plugged into the speakers, I never have issues with the right speaker not working correctly. -
OK, I planned to restart the OS as soon as i received the laptop..
I'll try to keep it and clean it the more I can.
By the way, Browsing and listening to music on a Quad i7 Should be fast and awesome right ? -
In terms of stuttering, I believe the issue related to battery and throttling of the CPU. When gaming and plugged in and the battery is charging or is charged, it works great. But, when you have it set to best battery health, and it is above 50%, it is essentialy going to run on battery until it reaches 50% then it will work off of plug.
I say all this because, when I am on battery and have it set to maximum performance, my CPU still is throttling, and most games are not that playable, BUT if I use the program throttlestop, I can set it to whatever speed I want and play any game I want.
Also just wanted to let people know that nVidia just released a new driver and it is great! I get better fps in BF3 AND my CPU runs cooler. -
So, If I take off the battery it will run flawlessly ?
-
Just try it out first normally and see what happens...

My wife has a Lenovo Y470 and is trying to run a system profiler to get into a game beta which requires a dedicated GPU, but the profiler doesn't pick up the NVIDIA GPU.
We've turned on the metal switch (and seen the software tooltip confirmation from NVIDIA that the GPU is "ready to optimize power and performance") and set the NVIDIA software to "prefer" the GPU over the integrated graphics, but still the profiler only sees the Intel HD Graphics Family card.
I tried disabling the Intel graphics card in device manager, but NVIDIA did not take over and I had to reboot.
Any idea how I can force the laptop to use the NVIDIA card as primary? Would an external display help, or did lenovo just hose us? -
right click on the app that you're trying to use, and choose run with dedicated graphics in the sub menu.

Anyone know if one of those silicon keyboard skins for the Y570 might interfere with ventilation?
I'm loving it so far and any COD game (from the last 5) you through at it run like a champ, STO gets a little choppy depending on the action, but I should turn my graphics down a bit. Haven't tried SWTOR yet, but that is mostly because I'm having a hard time getting into it and Batman:AC because I just got a 100% in the main story and am a little burned out.
Having a hard time with BF3, something with the graphics seems to be messed up. -
Thanks for that tip! In the end it turned out to be a bug in the system profiler, and we're all set.
-
BF 3 is too much for this laptop in multiplayer.
CoD is no problem because they all run on a much older graphics engine, basically it uses 5-6 years old graphics. -
If you are talking about the GW2 beta, try adding a profile for the diagnostic program and set it to use the GPU.
-
Seem to be several YouTube videos that contradict you.
-
Wow! You weren't kidding about that. I started getting stuttering at a certain location in Skyrim, and after I updated the drivers I went back to that save game and it ran smoothly! Well, the other difference might be that I was able to force Ambient Occlusion with the new driver too. Either way, I was beginning to wonder if I had to tone down the settings a bit after experiencing that. And I was hesitant to update the driver since a lot of people got the BSOD after doing that (at least in previous posts).

Hello everyone, I'm experiencing a few display problems that I'm not sure if it's just me, the laptop, or if it's normal.
I recently purchased a refurbished Y570 and one of the first things I noticed was that the colors were faded and things seemed blurry.
For the color, I played around with the color saturation using the Intel graphics properties control panel and it improved a lot, except when it came to games. The Nvidia control panel seems to only allow color calibration for videos, but not programs.
For the blurry display, I'm not sure if it's because of the somewhat "low" resolution on a 15.6" display, or if I need to calibrate it somehow. When watching videos, I'm able to sharpen the image using the Nvidia control panel, but there doesn't seem to be any anti-aliasing options for the general display.
Also, has anyone tried the custom resolution option in the Intel graphics control panel? -
hiya guys
got my eye on the Y470P as a potential laptop to consider for work, note taking and some light gaming (TOR and BF3) while I"m on the go.
Just wondering if
a) the Y470P (AMD GPU) has switchable graphics
and
b) what kind of battery life is people getting?
Thanks -
I own a Y470p, It's one amazing machine. The single flaw is when plugged into power without a battery, the headphone jack creates a lot of static or digital crossover. The keyboard is awesome, but the area your wrists need to rest on may be a little bit higher, but this promotes healthier typing. The audio on it is nothing short of amazing. As of now, I haven't heard any competitors(HP ENVY, HP dv7t, etc) besides a 2011 Macbook. I just want to make an upgrade to an SSD, but I find it sufficient with the seagate 8MB cache on a 5400 rpm drive for most things using the Intel stuff tool lol
-
Haha, okay. I guess if getting 15 fps in the middle of firefights on a 30 man server on all lowest settings makes the game playable for you, then go for it. You yourself said it doesn't seem right. Some sort of graphical issue. Well the issue is the graphics are too much for this laptop. The video card is not even an actual 555 as it has been down clocked for some reason. Me personally, 15 fps is not playable for an fps. I never expected these specs to run the game in the first place.
-
Short of a full blown Alienware or Asus 17" with a high end graphics card (lots of heat and no practical portability) the 470 has been the best laptop I have owned for a total package of what I wanted. Portability, but still good gaming.
The numbers above seems about half of my numbers, but anyone expecting the same experience as a system like a desktop or the 17" devices mentioned above may be let down (if expecting high settings for some newer games and get 60fps).
I can say though that the 2670qm does better than expected for computational needs for games and the 550 is a nice compromise between gaming and heat. Plus allows a 14" laptop size. -
Does seem odd you can disable the Nvidia, but not the HD3000. Still, you should be able to do this in the bios by disabling the internal video card. Not sure though if the bios for the 470 allows the change.
-
Hes talking about these:
Battlefield 3 Lenovo Y570 GT 555M Overclocked - YouTube
Lenovo Y570 Battlefield 3 Overclocked.avi - YouTube
these are High settings and runs perfectly fine. And these are actually overclocked GT550s with GDDR5 RAM. Does not have as many shaders as a rael 555, but it does very well. -
Well I guess my video card must have been borked from day one. Hopefully the replaced MB I get is more playable.
-
Don't worry, performance was borked (I like that word) day one when I got my y570 in BF3. Looks like those folks had to do a bit of tweaking to get the games to run like that. Donno how I feel about OCing a notebook.
-
Can somebody answer my question above please? Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus -
Since not many folks have the P versions yet, not a lot of opportunity for feedback. Lenovo CS and the spec PDF should be able to answer this for you if no answer from users yet.
I found out about the 460P and the ATI card it used in final versions from CS.
BTW, I really like my 470 with the 550M. It does have switch graphics and nice compromise for portability and power
Just wish there was a 9 cell battery option
-
ahh ok thanks
a user over on OCN where I usually am said that it was switchable however I've been unable to find any references for switchable graphics on the 470P.
Thanks anyway! -
Question for you all. I am decent with computers but I am not an expert in hardware.
I just bought a y470p with the following specs:
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor ( 2.2GHz 1333MHz 6MB )
AMD Radeon HD 7690 1GB
8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
750GB 5400
I have a WD Scoprio Black 500 GB 7200 RPM hard rive (it is the SATA I and not the newer SATA II WD black) from another laptop. I was thinking about replacing the 750 gb 5400 RPM with my scorpio black. I was curious what all of your thoughts were. Will the WD SB speed up performance a noticeable difference? (the extra 250 gb in storage is not an issue 500 gb is more than I need) Thanks for your thoughts. -
Hello.
Please tell me where I can download the application OneKey Theater for a laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Y570-5243A-1 (59-307849)? On the Lenovo site I can not find links
Thank you. -
no most likely not.
a SSD would definitely be noticeable though
hows the battery life on the 470P? Does it have switchable graphics? -
Yes it has switchable graphics. AMD is software controlled. There is no physical switch on the front of the laptop. But you can control which GPU to use in AMD Catalyst software suite.
For One Key Theater, you have to get it from the Y560 download page. It works fine.
Lenovo Support - Drivers & Downloads
Also for those of you with BF3 issues, you do not have to overclock it to play. If I do a mix of medium and high I can play great, but on high with ultra textures, it dips into the mid 20s at times so that is why I overclock. If I play on medium it is above 30fps the whole time without an overclock. -
Agreed on the BF3. I have yet to run into a game besides Saints Row 3 that does not play great with medium settings. Highs settings into the mix as well for a lot of games. Saints Row 3 however is low settings and some medium in the mix. The resource hogging Crysis 1 plays smoother than Saints Row 3 in higher settings.
