Is is possible to replace the touchscreen y50 model with a 3200 x 1800 IGZO touchscreen monitor? This would solve the 48hz issue and other problems

Ugh the bloatware on this laptop is driving me up the wall. How do I determine what to delete? I don't want to delete something which is useful.

Any advice from those who might have experienced this issue? Just got my Y50 yesterday and its not detecting my Nexus 7 (2012 version), 1st time i plugged it in, it installed the drivers but will not show up under the devices and drives. I checked device manager and it does show my device there. I tried different cables, tried all the ports, enabled and disabled USB debugging, still nothing. My nexus is rooted.

Sounds more like a Nexus issue than laptop issue. Not exactly the thread to come to for help with the issue, but I'll attempt anyway.

Do you have fast charging enabled? That would keep it from connecting. Make sure it's set to the MTP connection method and not the charging only method. Try installing the Nexus 7 drivers ( ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Nexus 7) while the thing is plugged in too. After those drivers are in, open command prompt and type "adb devices" to see if you're even getting a connection. Something might come up on your Nexus about the computer's RSA key. Accept the key. I always check the check box in that dialogue. Maybe getting through that point will help...

Nobody knows! At least, they haven't yet quantified what they consider bloat. Bawk Bawk Bawk!

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/758690-ideapad-bloatware.html

I guess that's just because some users don't know how to actually "manage" the system, and would rather complain, then just nuke the drive.

You do realize that you have control over what programs are loaded at start up, and which services can be disabled until you want to use them, don't you? Personally, I find most of the Lenovo programs "useful", but I choose when to initialize, and start the program. When I'm done using it, I know how to shut it down.

I actually find that Google chrome is the most invasive bloat on my system. Once you agree to their EULA, and install the browser, they put so many hooks into your registry, it would take you days to clean it all out.

If, by chance, you figure out what you consider bloat, will you update the http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/758690-ideapad-bloatware.html thread, by listing the programs, and the size of all of the folders associated with the programs, so everyone can see what is bloat in your mind?

Only then can we have a discussion about what should be considered as "bloat ware". :radar:

For the people with the 1.8Ghz throttling issue, the only fix i could find right now is to start the throttlestop application and keep it at the normal 2.5Ghz. On BF4 the diference in performance between 2.5 and 3.4 is close to 0. At 2.5Ghz the GPU usage is mainly 99% and the gains to FPS at 3.4Ghz was from 65 to 66FPS which is negligible.

Thanks a lot, i'll give it a try. I found some forums which indicates that this might be more of a nexus 7 issue with windows 8 OS because I have no problems connecting it to my windows 7 netbook. Thanks again.

I had owned the Y50 UHD Touch model from Microsoft for about a day, but I just had to return it. Its an excellent system except that the yellows produced by the screen are just inexcusable. Its just such a damn shame. Does anyone know if there is a possibility on the color issue being software patched? If so, I might keep my eye on the laptop for the future. The build quality and power is amazing, but marred hugely by such poor color reproduction.

    Hi Everyone,

I am in need of an backup power adapter for my Y50. I have called Lenovo several times and checked their website, but both tell me that they don't stock the power adapter. I know that I need a 135W, slim connector adapter, but cannot find the exact model that came with the laptop anywhere (ADL135NDC3A / part # 36200605).

I have found a knockoff brand adapter on Amazon, but I'm really hesitant to buy it. I also found this, but again, I'm not sure if it'll be an OEM Lenovo adapter:
135W Lenovo ADL135NDC3, ADL135NDC3A Slim AC Adapter Power Charger

If anyone could help me out in finding a good replacement / backup power adapter for my Y50, I would really appreciate it. I need a second power adapter to leave at school, since I'll be taking exams at school on the computer and don't want to accidentally forget my AC adapter at home on one of the many exam days.

As always, thanks for your help!

I don't know what happened but after two weeks of using the y50 1080p touch model, suddenly, the cpu temp jumped from 30~40C to 50C+ on regular use and even when idle. This happened after I updated speedfan and it didn't successfully update the first time.

I've opened up the laptop to see if the problem was a dead fan but they all functioned normally. I also reformatted the drive with clean windows and it still operated at those temps without any other software installed (bare-bones OS). I attempted to mess with BIOS and set it to default but temp was still at 50+.

I was using speedfan just for temp monitoring didn't touch any fan adjusting features...I don't know how it could have screwed up the temp on the cpus...

Perhaps a BIOS refresh might fix it but don't know how to do that, tried removing the battery but the plug was too rigid so i gave up.

    Anyone have a same experience?
Any way of hard resetting the BIOS?

Here is the image of temps:

The minimums are after the comp has been asleep in cold morning so disregard them. The lowest it gets when in actual use is 48C, prior to the problem it was 30C.

pretty strange indeed. maybe newer driver? or the GS60 does heavily throttles? they stated otherwise, but that would be my only solution. because the difference is quite high - too high in my mind for just a newer driver.

plus, in Metro: Last Light the GS60 scores significantly better (35 vs. 28 fps in ultra setting). just Bioshock (54 vs. 65 fps), Tomb raider (38 vs 44 fps) and Starcraft II (38 vs. 49 fps) are a little strange.

Guys, do you recommend changing something in the nvidia control panel? Like ,for example, "the power management" from "adaptive" to "prefer maximum performance". And the PhysX configuration set to the gtx 860m only?. And maybe the "multi display / mixed gpu acceleration" to "single display performance mode"?
I had a Desktop computer, so, i don`t know how to set the nvidia settings on a laptop. I want it to use its maximum power when i'm playing, but when im not i would like the laptop to work without wasting too much battery.

So far, it seems to be a hardware issue in that the panel is rgbw pentile, and has some sort of adapative brightness thing baked into it as a feature. The yoga 2 pro had the same yellow problem because it had a similar pentile screen, and according to other users, the yellow problem still wasn't fully solved after lenovo released a bios update and a power management update. It is unfortunate, because the laptop is nearly perfect in every other way.

Ah, I didn't know that. How long after release did Lenovo put the BIOS update together on the Yoga 2 Pro?

I had called technical support about the laptop last week, and it seemed like they had not heard a single word about the problem yet.

EDIT: I also wanted to ask if anyone has been smart enough to mess with the Yoga 2 Pro's patch and somehow apply it to the the Y50.

I downgraded the system to Windows 7 64bit Enterprise and am now having a hard time installing the Intel drivers provided by Lenovo, and drivers obtained directly from Intel.

When running the installer i get an error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software".

I've tried disabling switchable graphics, returning to optimized defaults, etc. and have not been able to get them installed. I cannot install the nvidia driver until the intel one installs either.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone successfully performed a clean install on their y50?

1.) Did all the drivers successfully install after clean install? Automatically or manually?
2.) How did you obtain your window 8 key?
3.) Is their a link to step by step instructions on a clean install of windows 8 on a Y50?

Thanks folks. These threads are so long now, I can't locate squat.

I'd like to know what I should and shouldn't delete.

Mine is also 50+ when I have Chrome, Skype and other common software's open. I got my Y50 1 week ago, but didn't really check temps back then. I recognized that my laptop started to get warmer now. I hope it's not something big. I have the 4710 i7 tho.

1: Installed them all manually to ensure everything is installed.
2: I simply installed my windows 8 using the key from the y50. I used some program to find the key for the current computer and used that.
3: Not that i am aware of. Not really hard, I just format my drive before installing windows 8. If you have another working computer, I simply download all drivers there, put it on a USB and then install it after windows 8 is installed. go to device manager and check everything is installed. Once done, I use Ninite to install every applications I need. Since I have the SSD version and wanted to install Linux, I did do a few other things. I did also install an application so that windows will look more like windows 7 since I dont use metro.

What sucks now is that I get throttles when playing games. It starts to lag and the CPU drops to like 1.4 Ghz even when boost is turned off. There are def some problems regarding temperature and Lenovo needs to address this.

After Win-7 has fully updated it will include an intel driver. Then you just need to go to Nvidia.com and get the newest WHQL which will install just fine. That's what I did and my games play great.

I undervolt my core -65mv and see about a 4 degree temperature drop. I tried -75mv as heibk201 suggested using XTU, however it wasn't stable and would crash sometimes while encoding video. -65mv is the sweet spot for mine.

worth mentioning that suspending and resuming y50 from sleep seems to remove all xtu modifications (xtu gui still says that they are applied, but they arent). rebooting on the other hand does not do that.

Just bought a Kensington for my Y50. Same problem as schneidk. The top and bottom lid surfaces stick out relative to the side of the case where the lock opening is so the face of the lock cannot sit flush with the lock opening. If you run your finger along the side of the case, the sides surfaces are not all flush. Ugh. I too am looking for a decent quality lock that will work for a Y50. Has anyone been successful finding such a lock?

BTW, we have a Y510P that is the same.

funny thing, -75mv worked for me when I was running stress tests, but when I played an hour of pay day, it crashed...

the problem with xtu is that it cuts the down the dynamic voltage, rather than the max voltage. so at all p-states you get a voltage cut, and the higher frequency it tends to matter less because it has much higher voltage, so -75mV at 3.4ghz is a lot different than at 2.5ghz let's say, since it's a smaller percentage.

    @ATG
do you happen to know what usually happens when I get BSOD with DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION? it happens to me a few times as I was playing, ironicially, watchdogs, or sometimes when I was just browsing. I'm pretty sure it's not a hard drive firmware issue since no one else gets it, any advices?

hey everyone, after about 1 and a half month and 3 deffective y50's later, i finally got my hands on an actual working unit. i recieved my y50 about 2 days ago and i ended up replacing the harddrive today with samsung 840 evo ssd. i have to say other than the crappy TN panel on the laptop and crappy lenovo customer support, everything else on the laptop has been excellent. i can battlefield 3 on high-untra at around 50fps. watchdogs with some fine tuning was playable at 45fps at medium settings. And older games like FIFA run at full 60fps. all of these games are running at native resolution on a Acer monitor. I am not really sure if the 48Hz issue is resolved by using the monitor but intel control panel shows im runninf at 60Hz and i am getting smooth gameplay. the GPU temperature barely goes above 68°C and the CPU at 72°C. i used nvidia inspector to do some overclocking as well but i didnt see any rise in temperatures.

i am a college student that wanted a portable stylish laptop with gaming capabilites and this thing delivers. i am glad that i stuck with lenovo even after they sent me 3 bad units because in the end i got an awsome laptop. Hope this helps the people that are still on the edge about getting this laptop.

well, as you mention the TN-panel, you must have the FullHD-version of the Y50. the 48Hz-problem only occurs with the UHD-panel.

but your experiences sound great, nevertheless (well, at least the ones with the working Y50, the story before is not so nice. ;) ).

as your temps are rather slow: have you tried throttlestop on the CPU? this way it would really use his turbo boost, which is by default almost completly disabled (if the CPU goes above 65°C (which it almost always will), the turbo is deactivated via BIOS settings). if the perfromance is good enough right now, there is no need fpr you. but I just wanted to let you know, that this issue exists and it partly can be solved (and perhaps Lenovo does bring a BIOS-update somewhere in the future, that raises the threshold-temp above 65°C. 85° sound more logical and would be way on the safe side.

Hi guys I just tried stress testing for the first time on my lenovo y50 with the program called HeavyLoad. I tested both CPU and GPU and the results after 1:30min :

    75 - 80 celcius on CPU

    3400 - 3500 fps on GPU

    are those numbers normal?

    Edit:
I am asking because my friend is getting much better results and we have same PC (70-74 C and 3600-3700 fps)
