    Instant Resume
No more waiting for your PC to get going. With Instant Resume, the U430p can wake up from sleep mode in just over a second.

I know that Lenovo has the whitelist. Did anyone try to upgrade from the stock Intel Wireless-N 7260 to the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and got past the BIOS? I'm just curious to know.

Honestly, after rolling back the drivers on my 2230 down to 14.8, i am perfectly fine with the card. I am in no rush to get Wireless-c, simply because i dont have 300mbps internet download speeds. Honestly, i see no performance gain in terms of Internet speed from a Wireless-G card to a Wireless-N card, but then again im not doing any LAN data transfers.

2 weeks ago, I was set on getting this laptop but after going to Best Buy and looking at this computer on two separate occasions, the screen although 1600 x 900 is not good at all. Clarity is an issue and color reproduction is another. Many colors are washed out and it feels like the screen is being covered by a layer of film. Don't be fooled in to thinking 1600 x 900 is a decent screen, I thought that too but this screen is just like the 1366 x 768 screens out there. A few years ago, they were sufficient but not for today's upper tier computers.

To people who are on the edge of buying this laptop, everything else feels well. The laptop feels solid, speed is as expected and the tapered design is also good. The keyboard does take time to get used to though.

Anybody have issues connecting to Verizon fiOS routers? Just bought mine from best buy and can connect to my hotspot on my phone but cannot get internet access on my u430. It connects to the network but is giving me "limited access". I really don't want to return this laptop so I'm hoping there is a fix.

Do you have the Intel Centrino 2230 or the newest Intel Wireless-N 7260?

If you have the latter, you can download the latest Intel 16.1.1.3 from this link and see if it fixes your issue:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3507&DwnldID=23044&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%c2%ae+Wi-Fi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+Centrino%c2%ae+Wireless-N+2230&lang=eng

If you have the 2230, boot in to safe mode. Then go to device manager and uninstall the current drivers. Make sure you checked the "Delete the driver software for this device." Reboot and let Windows 8 install its included 14.8.8.75 drivers.

I have the same 7260 Wi-Fi card on my laptop (not U430 touch) and also running 16.1.1.3 but haven't encountered any connectivity issues yet. I'm using a Netgear N150 router and Time Warner cable basic plan. Have you tried rebooting the router?

In addition, did you also try to connect using WPS push button? Basically, instead of putting your password for the SSID, you go to your router and push the WPS button. Then the laptop automatically connects after that:

No problem. I find that the drivers from the Intel website works best for the Intel Wireless 7260 series while the drivers provided by Microsoft works best for the Centrino series.

Hmmm. I found the laptop on besbuy.com first and then found this wonderful thread and have read from start to finish.

Can anyone confirm if the motherboard comes with the C2 stepping?

    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z/versions-history.html
    http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2331388

Also, it seems that this laptop is well built and the major complaints are the screen, the keyboard's short travel distance, as well as the touch pad.

Any recalibration of the screen to make it look better? Seems that a few posters here have mentioned the screen is that bad.

With the touch pad, would it be more of a driver issue and are we stuck with that? For some notebooks, upgrading the trackpad driver's made the touch pad more responsive.

Also, how is Lenovo's support on Lenovo products? I have a Thinkpad X220 and after a clean installation of Win 7, was mildly surprised to find out newer drivers are still being rolled out.

Some people on this thread complained about it. When I was in the US and this unit was on display at Bestbuy, I did not take not of the screen quality and compare it to the Toshiba ultrabook with 1368 x 768 beside it.

But if you own one and love the screen, then that is good news for me and other prospective buyers.

Picked this up from Best Buy ($700 w/o tax/shipping) for starting a Grad school program. Only had it a few days but loving it so far.

I'm really impressed by the build quality.
I personally think the screen looks great. Wouldnt have minded a matte screen but not a deal beaker for me and considering many of the alternatives mentioned cost twice as much or more than this model.
Battery life is around what the others are talking about, I'm easily hitting 6 hrs of battery through what I consider regular school/work use - internet/MS Word/Excel - just have to turn the brightness down a bit.

Agreed, I love the build quality of this laptop. However, even after updating the wifi drivers, I'm still having issues with wifi. It's not as bad as before but it still goes out to "limited" every once in awhile. I will unfortunately be taking this computer back to best buy. No clue at all what to get now. Cloest ultrabook to this is the Asus S400, but that doesn't have a backlit keyboard.

Oh look! More pixels i cant see without making an effort to strain my eyes! Woohoo! Lets not forget Windows 8's less-than-stellar scaling. 1080p and 900p are fine for 14', cant even see the pixels w/o making an effort.

Aside from a Nvidia 650M, i still dont see why people spend 1k$ on getting an rMBP over a normal MBP, especially since the non-retina MBP's have better colors...

The battery on the U430 isn't removable:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo-....p?id=1218992520815&skuId=9130047#tab=reviews
Initial battery life has been very good, though we'll see how it holds up over time. The battery is not accessible (normal for ultrabooks--keeps them thin and allows for more battery since a removable case isn't needed) so how well it holds up over time will be key. The system is preloaded with software to nag you not to let the computer stay fully charged (that is, unplug it and let it run down some before plugging it back it) which should help stretch out the battery life.

Does it mean the U330 doesn't either?
I checked bestbuy.com using the keyword U330 and got results for replacement batteries:
    u330 - Best Buy

    Thanks in advance.

You can replace the battery yourself in case it dies. It's pretty simple by looking at pg. 38 / 89 the manual instructions here: Hardware Maintenance Manual - IdeaPad U330p, U330 Touch, U430p, U430 Touch

You can buy the battery FRU here: Buy Replacements Parts

Yep. Charge/drain them to 60%, open Lenovo power Management and set the mode to "Optimized battery health", this way it won't charge past 60% and this setting will be remembered as long as you don't pull out the battery.

Sice i don't own an u430, i don't know. However, based on reviews of the older u410, the laptop seems to have pretty decent cooling. Max surface temp is 43C, versus 55C for my Y410P.

As for the wireless card, there should be a thread in this forum section about it. Also, in the manual, theres a whitelist of what cards that are supported in the laptop.

I ended up going with the HP Envy Touchsmart 14...has anyone heard of an updated 'release date' for the U430 for the US Lenovo site? I'm still curious to take a look at it when it's available. I'll probably keep my Envy, but I can return for up to 3 weeks.

Has anybody heart something about a thermal dead of the graphic card or a defect Uefi configuration?

After a backup with Acronis True Image the 430U seems not to be usable any more.

hi guys. two questions.. how is the nvidia 730m compared to the new intel iris 5100 that is rumored to be in the haswell macbook pro? i'm deciding between the two and would appreciate a clear comparison. also.. i noticed that the power input on the u430 looks like a rectangle now instead of the usual barrel. is there info on this? is it a magsafe like plug?

The plug has the same size as an USB plug. It has in the middle a small pin like the old round power connector.

I'm not tracking the "gpu charts".

Thx for the link Alan. So far I've spent maybe 10 minutes with it (went out shortly after opening the box) so will have to wait until tomorrow or Sunday for deeper impressions. A couple of issues - the trackpad is sort of sticky. I don't know if sticky is the right word but it is not fully smooth, sort of like my fingers don't slide well on it. I am guessing it is just because it is new and has never been used, I didn't notice a problem at the store tho I was also not looking for it or that closely in general since I was planning to buy it and return if I didn't like it. That said, ive been using macs for the past few years (now need a pc for grad school) and never had an issue like this with a new Mac trackpad before so we'll have to see.

Also the power cord is a bit unwieldy - I wish the brick was integrated into the plug like with a Mac and it was just one piece as opposed to two. There isn't an easy way to fold it back up.

Finally - I am having an issue with windows (clearly not lenovo's fault) - but it asked me for an email and password for a Microsoft account when I first turned it on, and I must have created one for something previously since my email and standard password worked --- but it popped up with some random girls name so I don't know how my email and password became associated with someone else, but it is a bit odd. Any tips on how to resolve that? I'll go to the Microsoft website tomorrow and try to fiddle with my account settings. Otherwise, haven't really done anything else those are just my initial impressions based on unboxing and 5-10 min with it prior to going out for the night.

The 16GB Cache is inside the 2,5" hdd. If you replace the hdd with a ssd, the 16GB will be gone.

The cache and hdd is one package and also known as SSHD.
