No problem at all. Check Lenovo's support site and your D: partition. The drivers are already there.

Good morning everyone,
I hope it's the right place to ask the following questions...
I'm looking to buy a laptop small light and with dedicated graphic card.
At first, and still as 1st option, i'm considering the asus ux303ln.
as this is not available in the uk, at least there is no scheduled date for it to be sold here, I started considering other solutions.
This Lenovo u430 seems to be the closest option, and it is available in the UK as well (if you guys can suggest any other laptop similar to these 2, please do! looking for small light thin laptop, 13 - 14 inch, dedicated graphic card)
between the lenovo and the asus, the only differences are that lenovo is bigger (14'' vs 13.3''), heavier (1.89kg vs 1.5kg), it comes with hdd instead of ssd and the graphics card is bit less powerful than asus (730m vs 840m)
what I would like from you guys is,
1st- if you know, how big is the difference between the 730m and the 840m
2nd- lenovo comes with hdd, I would like an ssd. Can I change it without loosing warranty?
3rd- in asus for example there is this "yellow issue" with the QHD screens. Is there any issue I should consider with the Lenovo?
The purpose of the laptop is to use Ubuntu as OS, for basic work (documents excel based files), browsing internet, and videos. I'm looking for the dedicated graphics card as well because I want to be able to play League of legends, CS: go and Grid 2 or auto sports with good quality, if not great quality and frame rate.
by the way, is there any new version of the u430?
Thank you guys for the input! -
Howdee folks
I just bought myself a Red u430 Touch from Currys (UK) for £699. An absolute steal.
Comes with a 1080p screen (looks amazing in the density that a 14inch screen has, after a little calibration), 8gb ram, 500Gb+8Gb SSHD Haswell refresh i5-4210u and a NVidia 730m.
As soon as I got it home I opened the back (no warranty stickers) to replace the drive with my 240gb Kingston hyperx SSD. The drive it came with is one of those slim 7mm types, and my SSD is a standard 9mm. I replaced like for like and noticed that my SSD is to tall for the casing to fit back on. BUT.....in a flash of inspiration I turned the caddy upside down, and it fit right in with the correct height! Screw holes still matched etc....so, you CAN put a 9mm drive in these! (just remove the blue foam squares under the caddy to get the exra couple mm clearance you need)
Mine also had the wibbly trackpad some of these have, but I fixed that by putting two small sponge squares under the metal plate that is under the buttons. Just remove the battery screws, tilt the batter up and you will see the metal plate held on by 3 screws. Easy peasy. Now I have a firm trackpad with a much quieter, firmer click
So far I am LOVING this machine. Ive come from the 2013 HP Envys with the dodgy flexy keyboards, this thing is not only built way better than any HP ive come across, but the battery life is better and its so much quieter. I really don't miss my 15.6" screens, this thing is a beauty.
With a clean 8.1 install and and all the latest manufacturer drivers it flies, and ive had no issues with the touchpad since installing myself.
I really like the red colour, it contrasts well with the black colour of the palmrest. Hopefully the paint is sturdy, id hate to see it get scratched
My only complaint with the unit is actually the rubber feet. they aren't very soft so it tends to slide about a bit on super smooth surfaces. I might rough them up a bit with a nail file and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise ill just buy some soft ones from ebay. -
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the laptop. I have ordered the silver one i7, 500gb , 1080p from Lenovo website for the same 699 and it is expected to be delivered next Tuesday. Really can't wait!
About performance, do you play ant games? If you do, are you able to share your thoughts? I'm not really asking for any technical benchmarks or anything... Just an honest opinion.
Thank you!!! -
im still in the process of setting mine up from its clean install. Ill feedback in a couple days once its all settled in and I have my game up and running (I play a fairly heavy graphics MMO)
-
Great, thank you for the feedback.
One last question of you don't mind, I'll be using ubuntu, but I also want Windows in dual boot. For the Windows clean install, I need to get a OEM Windows version for the laptop to recognize the key, isn't it? If you want to share your details on this via PM please do.
Cheers -
there is actually no need to be secretive about win8 and keys! You can download the official ISO for Windows 8.1 core from mocrosoft. Then put it on a bootable USB stick, during the install process it will detect your laptops unique key and you are golden

I've been trying to find from where I can download it but still no luck. If you could share the link it would be great.
What Windows 8.1 version does it come with?
Once again, thank you!! -
it comes with 8.1 core (non-pro)
ill try to find those links for you -
Hi, thank you for your help.
I've been trying to find that official ISO but I can't find it any where... Starting to think that I should get it from some where else. If you know from where can I get the official ISO, please share, I works really appreciate
Lenovo arriving today!!!!!
Cheers
update: would it work if I follow these 3 steps? http://www.eightforums.com/installa...tted-genuine-windows-8-lenovo.html#post330277 -
I ordered an i5, 1080p, non-touch on 10/8, supposed to ship on 10/14, arrive 10/21. Got notified that it's been delayed
Won't ship until 10/21, arrive 10/28!
I'm going to be going through the same issue, plan to swap out with real SSD. Don't have a Win8 disc. Wondering how to clean install. No official MS download.... -
Anyone with a U430(P) with a 1080p screen, can you open the laptop up and tell me the part number of the LCD cable. Apparently, all I need is a 2 lane eDP cable for a FHD screen to work, which has FRU P/N 90203119, which again has 4 variants - DDLZ9TLC000, DDLZ9TLC010, DDLZ9TLC020 and DDLZ9TLC030. I have tried C010 and C020, and none of them work.
Here's my thread on the Lenovo forums if anyone's interested. -
Hello again,
I became recently aware of the possibility of the BIOS blacklisting the display, which might be the issue rather than the LCD cable. Can any of you with a 1080p display run Moninfo, and let me know the exact model number? I'll be very grateful.
Here's the direct download link for Moninfo if you cannot find it.
