Browsing through lenovo U.S site and it says it is available, is it? I thought it was suppose to be March 8th or this is only for preorder?
Thanks

Nope they are available to order.

Another question, i don't like the battery protruding at the back, if i go for the 3 cell battery, how long do you think the battery life would be based on the notebookreview and engadget review -
The three cell will last a little more than half of 6 cell. If my memory did not fail me, the three cell is 4000mah and 6 cell is 5600mah. About 3-4 hours.
-
E-240: Single core
E-350: Dual Core
Don't quote me as a batter expert, but this is what I have heard from slickdeals/notebookreview forums.
3-Cell: 3-4 hours, closer to 4 hours.
6-Cell: 5-6 hours, closer to 6 hours. -
Thanks for the reply guys, I guess the 3 cell is not too bad, 4 hours is still tons of battery and save $50
and no ugly protruding at the back side and lesser weight.
Do you have any coupons for this bad boy? -
I actually don't mind the battery in the back, so I bought it with the 6 cell.
So, you missed the good deals, through the spp and student websites.
On the 22nd you could order the x120e with DOS, for about $117 discount. I got mine shipped for ~370.
On the 23rd, you could receive a Acrobat X discount, about a $115 discount.
Sorry dude. -
I actually think that it look weird with the 3 cell, do to how small it is.
-
Lenovo quotes the battery life of the 3 cell as being 3.6 hours. I would expect just short of that unless you're crafty.

Is the 4gb ram upgrade a lil on the expensive side @ lenovo because of the $80 price?
Is it recommended to get the base 2gb instead and save $80 and then just buy an additional 2gb stick at newegg or get 2x2gb sticks for dual channel.
How many ram slots are there in the x120e btw and is the base 2gb ram 2x1gb stick or 1 stick of 2gb?
I notice that there are 3 options for the OS configuration. I don't need win 7 pro so that should save me $40, leaving me with 2 options which is the win 7 32 or 64 bit. I should go 64 right so that it can support and use 4gb ram?
Thanks -
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
I would go with the 4gb regardless of the OS because of the whole "shared video memory" thing ... 64 bit would give you just a little spare ram, which is always nice imo.

Hmm ... usually when you go through an online purchasing the site will be more clear about whether the ram in the machine is from 1 or 2 pieces. Generally the default is for 2 smaller pieces, as they are cheaper for a company to purchase in bulk and all that.
If you are purchasing from a 3rd party retailer and the info they show is not clear you could go ahead and call them.
I recently bought a 4gb ddr3 kit upgrade (i.e. 2 2gb chips) for the T400 I now have and it cost only $40! (It was Crucial brand memory and I bought it at amazon.com) -
I managed to get in on the no-OS deal a few days back. On the order sheet, it says the 2gb ram comes on 1 stick, so all you would need is another 2gb to upgrade the x120e.
I'm torn between keeping the x120e or holding out for the E220s even though it won't be release until April at the earliest. I love my Y560 since I got it but it gets kind of heavy taking it to school everyday. -
e220s would be expensive relatively to the x120e, maybe you should consider e420s which give you a standard processor.
-
Thanks for the replies guys, i manage to reduced the cost a lil bit more using the 10% google code, is there anymore coupons that i can combine with it?
-
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Any extra cost shavings are always nice!
Hmm ... as regards other coupons, I assume you already looked in the Notebook and Tech Bargains thread? -
-
BTW, i notice that the status led lights on the x120e on the front are for battery and i dunno the other one.
Is there a capslock light status indicator and HDD activity like indicator? Is the built in microphone located near the webcam?
Thanks -
-
I think you'd better order memory separately, a 2 gigabit ram just $24 at newegg with free shiping, the x120e jsut a litter big higher level than netbook, 2gb is enough for me.
I order 2 days ago with adobe discount, so I get it 336$ plus 30 taxes -
-
FYI, the ram configuration on brazos is single channel, pairing makes no difference so you can mix and match dimm sizes however you like.
I like that their base config is a single 2gb dimm, makes DIY upgrading cheaper and less wasteful. I would probably go 6 total myself. -
Can you guys confirm if the max memory is 4gb(from the website and crucial.com)?
I'm hearing it can go more than that. -

Re: X120e upgrades? - Lenovo Community
Computer memory upgrades for Lenovo ThinkPad X120e Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com
Looks like someone is going to be a guinea pig. -
it's likely due to the X120e (and X100e for that matter) not having been qualified with 8GB. i'd be surprised if it didn't work.
the same thing will happen when 8GB DDR3 SODIMMs are released and all the "limited to 8GB" systems magically start supporting 16GB. with current architecture the limitation is in the largest memory package available and number of slots in the system rather than the chipset.
fwiw, the W520 was qualified with 4x 8GB DDR3 SODIMMs. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Crucial shows 4 GB max, though certain chipsets have been known to support more RAM than stated, like the PM/GM 965 because 4 GB modules weren't out yet.
-
I checked the tabook and it's there. It supports up to 8GB RAM officially.
I know there was some question about that in another thread that I can't remember quite off hand.
For those that are too lazy to search, you can find the tabook here.

Hrm any particular reason why Lenovo doesn't offer 8 GB of RAM as an option or Crucial hasn't listed it has 8 GB (yeah I know not the most accurate source).
-
I don't know why you guys felt it was relevant to merge my thread into this one, but whatever.
But this is a nice developement though, I was worried it was artificially limited to 4GB. -
Roger are you going to get a x120e?
-
I'm seriously considering it now. I was going to go back to desktops but this one interests me a lot.
-
what's so great about the x120e?
Everything I've read says that the E-350 fusion is still pretty slow and the graphics card is only able to play modern games at 800 x 600. Doesn't seem like a great laptop to be honest. I would rather pay more and get a E220s when they come out in April. -
It all depends on what you need and how much you're willing to pay. The E-350 is a step up from the Atom, and the X120e is mid way in price and size between a netbook and ultraportable.
You seem to want a small laptop that will be able to function as a main PC, including some gaming, and the E220s will be better for that, but also a lot more expensive. Since a few more hundreds of dollars don't seem to matter to you, I agree it's a better choice in your case. People who want an inexpensive and portable laptop that's better than an Atom-based netbook (and can even support some gaming, though with older games and lower settings) will find an E-350 system to be a decent choice. -
Therefore, if you are interested in a netbook (good for document work or websurfing at home/coffeeshop, etc) that is also able to take a few hits (e.g. thrown at the backseat of your car, dropped a few times at home, etc), then the x120e is a great choice for the price. -

My 7600go geforce from my 4 yr old laptop can play source games on native resolution at med-high settings, the gpu on x120e is almost similar with go7600.
So I'm assuming it will run Farcry, Doom 3, HL 2, CS Source, F.E.A.R and World of Warcraft w/o any problems at Native res.
I'm not sure about Crysis or any of the newer games. -
-
Obviously it won't compare to Sandybridge mobile CPUs in terms of raw computing power, but I bet it will cheaper. The trick is to get the dm1z or x120e at a heavily discounted price. I got my x120e on promo for 400$ before tax, so I am pretty happy. -
It's arriving next week Monday. I'm planning on putting my 8GB ram in there. I hope VMware - Linux runs well enough.
Anyone actually get theirs yet? I'm wondering about the battery life on this thing. I tried MBP13 2011, playing a mp4 movie with wifi/bt on, it got more than 7 hours. I hope x120e can get at least 3 hours movie time with 3 cell. -
Mine shipped a few days ago. I got one crazy deal. I think it was a mistake(adobe error + 10% off amazon + 5% CB
), but they shipped it.
-
I'd like to know why they think they can charge sales tax on online purchases. Killed half my 10% coupon. I wound up getting jacked further too.
They're apparently not gonna ship it until the 17th either. Was planning on taking it on a trip, but I gotta leave the 18th.
I better LOVE this thing once I do have it..

Fortunately, last November, we at least put an end to any new such "Fees" passed without our consent - now they'll at least have to dupe the voters into approving them. -
