    yeah baby! now go order a replacement T60 or T61 keyboard so that you can swap it out 20 minutes after you get your T400, since you'll immediately notice the crappy flex

    I don't notice any flex on my T400. Even though I have a Samsung screen I think it looks amazing.

    I'm a kinda person who adjusts to stuff pretty fast.
    So I'm not gonna order this right now, and since this is my first lenovo I wont have that 'oh..this doesnt come close to the previous one' problem.

    I'll give the 'kit' keyboard a spin and if that doesnt perform upto standards, I wont mind spending another 50 bucks.

    @rxblitzrx . Thanks for the detailed info and the link.

    Lenovo should only have LG make their screens, wonder why Samsung still has not try to match themselves against LG yet

    agreed. if Lenovo doesn't do something about this panel lottery in two years, i'm becoming a loyal Sony customer. Vaio LCDs > All. Their price tag is also > All ;)

    How can you be sure it's an LG? I thought you needed the serial number to know what part was installed....how are you checking this?

    Thanks.

    When the shipping confirmation email is sent a serial number is included. Using this and the type number you are able to determine which parts were included in your build.

    I think this theory is still being tested but so far everyone has been holding to those part numbers.

    Mine was 42T0497 and I got LG, as did several other confirmed 42T0497.

    And also some confirmed 42T0503 Samsung owners.

    dang son, you did your HW. =)

    educate me here, how do you tell if it is a LG or Samsung by looking at the spec sheet?

    Or once you get your ThinkPad?

    Before you get your Thinkpad:

    • Use your Serial Number and Machine Type on the PARTS LOOKUP PAGE. (dunno the url)
    • find info like the following for Display.
      42T0497 0000000 14.1 INCH LCD DISPLAY:FLAT PANEL DISPLAY NO
    • If it says 42T0497 then it's LG
    • If it says 42T0503 then it's Samsung

    After you get your Thinkpad:

    • Download Everest or PC Wizard
    • Install and run
    • Check under Display for the model
    • If it says LGLxxxx or something it's LG
    • If it says LTNxxxx or something then it's Samsung

    I forgot how to use Everest or PC Wizard, but you basically get the display model type and then you can google it to figure out LG or Samsung. Other threads here will also talk about it.

    What size is your panel? 14.1" or 15.4"?

    LTN141W1-L05 = Samsung according to Google.

    ALPS, Chicony, and NMB are the manufacturers of Thinkpad keyboards. They actually all feel different.

    NMB = best
    ALPS = 2nd best
    Chicony = Worst

    But again, it's all personal preference. I think the most agreement has been that NMB is best and Chicony is the clackiest/springy-est

    Just got my t400 in the mail and it seems like i have the LG display as well. Much nicer than my previous dells, hp's, and it looks as nice as my co-workers mac book pro. Even when running on battery the display is bright with the default settings. Very happy with it.

    I've been shaking my head at these Samsung vs. LG threads ever since I received my T400 with a Samsung - it looks fantastic to me. I did a little adjusting of the gamma settings and that's it.

    The keyboard is another matter...

    I've had calibration on my mind since the monitor I ordered (LP200) just arrived. The white's are whiter than my Inspiron (which has an overall beige-y tinge), and I'm hoping I can calibrate it & the T400 to look similar.

    I got a Samsung when I ordered, and I didn't really know what the fuss was about. I'm very content with my screen, and my viewing angles are almost 180degrees left and right. maybe it needs a calibration, but I haven't bothered yet. Does anyone know a good benchmark/profile I can use for my screen?

    I'm pretty happy that I ordered my T61p than wait for the Tx00, the keyboard sounds like a pretty big drop in standard.

    I recieved my T400 with LG display today (typing on it now). All I have to say is Oh my freaking god! What an amazing display, I'll have to take some pictures and upload them later it is amazing.

    I am however regretting purchasing a T60 keyboard for replacement. My keyboard is rock solid and the typing is really smooth with an outstanding feel. Another issue I need to work on is that it is kind of slow booting up, but I'm sure when I clean out some of the bloat it will be better.

    Woohoo! i just got my serial number from a sales rep over the phone ( i didnt have one in the email), put it into the website, and i'm getting an LG! Right now, the UPS status is Mississauga.

    I wanted to get a 2GB stick for my T400, but i dont know of any websites that will ship to Canada. Futureshop does ot carry DDR3 at all. Whats a good one?

    I'm not in Mississauga, im in Newfoundland. I know a place here that can get it but they're gonna charge me 120 bucks. Also, im kind of regretting only ordering 1GB at the time. How competent will vista run on 1GB of mem? If its crazy-slow then ill probably just head over to the store and have them order in a stick for me; they can have it the next day.
