Got my T400 and it is a LG. Backlighting is better and more even than the Dell XPS m1530 I had bought but returned. The lcd is much brighter than my old T43 and my wife's t60. So far so good.

the LG screen is indeed awesome. So clear and bright. I can set it at 1/2 the brightness and still feel relatively comfortable.

People who have recently posted, have you received your laptop to confirm LG or are you going by the serial number/part number that shipped with your laptop? Hopefully Lenovo hasn't gotten smart on us and now labels every screen with this part number whether LG or Samsung!

pcharouz: joo gotta get your serial number and machine type (4 digit number) and go to parts look up page... i can't remember the website, but it might be somewhere in this thread, or another one. then you can see which FRU part was used to build your laptop.... that number will ID if LG or Crapsung.

Samsung doesn't reproduce colors as well as LG. You get this really washed out effect that looks like a$$. It's also got this blueish hue to it that makes 'white' not look 'white'. It's the same issue that they had with the T61 panels. LED backlighting only fixes brightness issues. The basic LCD is stlil the same.

all i get when i look up my parts is this: 14.1 INCH LCD DISPLAY:FLAT PANEL DISPLAY as the display.

and i have a feeling my display is samsung cause its pretty ****ty looking compared to my old dell. the black isnt very black, when the computer first turns on its very whitish.

the part # is 42T0487 though and i think that means its LG. if so, LG looks like crap IMHO.

if you already have your laptop in hand, download Everest and run it to find the manufacturer of your LCD. it will say "LTNxxxx" or "LPxxxxx" LTN = Samsung LP = LG

The T400 of my friend came with LTN141BT04002 - comfirmed by PC wizzard.
LED backlit with integrated camera. Well it is obviously bright enogh and luckily it is matt finished :) - I hate so much theese bright view, crystal bright, true - life s...ts, that I adore Lenovo for not following the vogue!!!! 10x for that! However, there is truth in the bluish white story I read above, on one hand, on the other, even worse - the display came with dead pixel on it. Blue dot in the middle of the screen constantly lid, which is very very annoying on darker screens. I never expected such crappy defect from a quality with the name Lenovo. My friend would not bother as much as me for that dot to claim replacement but she's also pretty dissapointed. In my view Lenovo if they read these posts should reconsider their suppliers - they stain the brand. My 3 year old gateway is still perfect in trerms of display. If I ever save for a new one it will be for X300 - maybe they pay more care and attention to the expensive models. I read they use different suppliers for these models. Lenovo, ban dead pixels since you are the best - you just can't afford it!

But I will not risk it with Samsung again.,

Good to hear that people are getting LG's left and right. I'm seriously considering repolarizing my screen to go glossy. Higher contrast and greater viewing angles!! Very tempted.

I apologize if this has been posted already (long thread, skimmed it!), but you don't get the serial number until it's actually been shipped?

On my confirmation it has a part #, but it doesn't match up with the ones I saw listed in the beginning of this thread.

Please excuse my ignorance in the matter, but what is the difference between a Samsung and a LG panel? I'm looking into purchasing a T400 so I'm trying to get as much info as possible.

From the thread title and subsequent posts it can be inferred that users favor the LG panel. Is there any reason for this, or is this plainly a subjective matter?

Sorry about the thread necromancy, but I'm having trouble looking up my T400. I have the type (2764) and serial number (L3B0551), but get the following message when I try to do a lookup:

Will it just take a little while for the system to catch up, or something?

I got the Samsung display with mine and had read a lot of these threads before it ever arrived. I was expecting the worst but it wasn't bad at all. It seemed a little washed out so I had it replaced with the LG panel and I would be hard pressed to tell you that I see any difference. Samsung may have improved their quality or they may be hit and miss. Who knows? Like the previous poster said, the LG isn't spectacular either. Both of the panels I got were comparably good but neither one I would say is awesome.
