I got roughly 4 hours straight out of the box. Mine came charged at 94%, and I was using the Energy Star power mode. During the time I was only internet surfing, installing/uninstalling programs and adding my music/videos.

And anyone receive their Y560 yet?

Mine is doing fine. The only problem I'm having is heat. Other than that nothing is really bothering me. If you play games a lot, I would consider not getting this. Normal usage it's nice and cool, but once you start gaming the heat gets to be troublesome.

These are the temperatures after playing Fear 2 Demo for 20mins. (All settings maxed. No lag.)

I RMAed my Y460 due to hard drive issues (it was ticking and then giving a blue screen). I can never find a laptop that works...

I take out the battery when I don't need to take it anywhere for a while and the program crashed because I tried to open a file that it uses making it freeze.

    Thanks for your input

I guess ill have to wait for the MBPs & timelinex to make a decision, the y series is the last resort tho, if only they would have had a better HSF :(

How does Y560 compares to the Studio 1558? They both come with same specs but I am wondering which will be more reliable and better heat management.

I am planning to get an I5 with a descrete graphic card on one of these and both pricing almost the same around $900.

I've had it for a couple of weeks? I don't remember exactly when I got it but I think I was the first to post here with it.
Either way I'm very pleased with it. Got it with the St. Patty's day discount so with that I think it was a no brainer and so far it hasn't let me down not one bit. I game with it on a NC2000 cooler (which is smart for any gaming laptop) and outside of gaming it's a little work horse. And man oh man I can't say enough how much I enjoy the quality of the speakers (especially since they're laptop built in speakers). Battery life is right where I need it, screen brightness is great, and the laptop itself looks pretty sexy -~IMO~-. I'm saving up atm for a nice 128GB+ SSD but that's gonna take a little while = / .

Some accessories I bought for it:
    NC2000 Notebook Cooler
    Microsoft Bluetooth notebook mouse 5000
Built NY 15" cargo sleeve (fits nicely)

I was also considering getting an air card for some "anywhere I'm at" internet but instead I remembered my Instinct cell had bluetooth so I just setup a bluetooth connection with it and use it as a modem while it's still in my pocket = ) . (coolest thing ever for me lol)

Does enyone compared battery life with ATI 5650 and Intel HD Graphics?? How much estimated time shows windows7 without load on CPU and GPU with 100% charged battery (compare 5650 and with HD Graphics)? I just want to know the difference...

Like said before, the high heat (atleast on my system) is only when stress testing which is understandable to an extent. While gaming it's been manageable.

I just had some weird display issue, where the screen started to flicker when I powered up the laptop. Yesterday, I ran it on battery power for a while and then put it to sleep. When I resumed it later, the battery was at 7% and it automatically went to hibernate. Today, I plugged in the AC and started it up--that's when it happened. I attached pictures so you can see exactly what I'm describing. By the way, the laptop was using the Intel graphics and switching to the ATI got rid of the flickering, but switching back to Intel brought it back again. Finally, a hard reboot got rid of it. Not sure what the cause is, but I cringed at the thought of sending the laptop out for repair this early. Hopefully this was just a glitch.

Mine sometimes flickers a lot when going from the sign in screen to the desktop screen, but nothing like that. I hope there is nothing wrong with the Intel's GPU. Like you said, hopefully there is just a little glitch in it and not a more serious problem.

You tube vid of a Y460 stress tested. Looks like the notebook is on a cooling pad and is stressed using super pi and Overclock Checking Tool (OOCT). Speed fan hits 80C. Then the notebook shuts itself down to preven damage to the cpu from the heat.

Stress testing is simply pushing everything to the limit correct?
I doubt games will require it to be pushed THAT far.
What do you mean to an extent? I think it's a bit much to be 90C...that's like a burn to the touch or melting some plastic in the laptop -.-

Do you HAVE to play it on the cooling pad?
    What's it like without it?

I'm not sure what else to say about the heat. It gets hot under heavy load, with normal use it's fine. Maybe when another 14"er with similar components comes out (unless one already has), then someone could compare temps to get a better perspective of the situation.

On another note, I opened her up today to peek around and saw a sim card slot. That wouldn't happen to be usable now would it? Taking a look at their drivers download page for the Y460 there's 2 different WWAN(3G) drivers:
Ericsson Mobile Broadband Driver (64.1 MB) and
Huawei Wide Wireless Lan Driver (2.12 MB)

Any care to shed some light on this that'd be super awesome!

    @ taekwondoboy
    Proud Y460 owner = )

Edit: Nevermind, I think I found my own answer lol. On pic 5 through that link (the overview) the compartment on the mid bottom is a mini pci-express slot. So, I take it that the WWAN card that is used as the 3G modem or whatever is needed to make it all work.

    Oh okay!
It doesn't seem like anyone has a Y560 yet.
Mine is suppose to ship tomorrow :)

Hopefully that doesn't have too many problems.
I am really excited for the gameplay on it.
I am not sure whether or not its similar to the gfx card on the y460 but can you tell me more of your experiences with games? Are they maxed out? Are the fans screeching banshees? What cooling fan do you recommend and if one is really required for this laptop? ETC...

(not sure if i asked you this before, lol ~ but you are the only one here who has have positive experiences with the y460 = may be similar to the y560)

All the games I've played have been on either mid to high settings. It handles them very well. I play games with it on a NC2000 notebook cooler though I found myself wanting more airflow out of it considering the price but maybe I'm just not understanding the airflow concept of it or something, I don't know lol. Either way it hasn't made any eye catching difference in temps. I have a ceiling fan running and a home-brew server running as well in my office so I couldn't here that little fan it's got even if it was running full blast. But at college in class I don't here anything at all. Every once in a while I'll here the harddrive head docking itself ( a little click), but that's about it. If there's one thing I do recommend for you to get it'd be a darn polishing cloth haha. You're gonna be wiping down your comp constantly like it's a show car or something.
One thing that does bug me though is that I think when I'm carrying it in my backpack the books press up on it and when I open it up I see imprints on the screen of the keyboard. They wipe right off but man it's annoying and kind of scary thinking about scratches and stuff. Maybe I'll start closing it with the polishing cloth covering the keyboard for now on.

Perfect! And yeah, I'll just have to find a big cloth, haha.
Is it playable on your lap? Does it burn up to the point where you just have to take it off?
Can you play a high-end game for a few hours WITHOUT the fan and let me know what happens?

It worries me when people tell me they play for 30 minutes and the machine dies or something along those lines.

I have the same issue on my HP DM3t, I think I just figured out today is had something to do with plugging in the charger... Just unplug and replug (resets brightness/screen) and it went away... Give it a try, I've only been able to do it once since I've only had the problem twice now after a few months of usage.

if you don't see the ATI mini icon on the bottom right then you're using the intel graphics. Vice if you do see the ATI icon then you're using the 5650.

Just got done comparing my i5 520M and the old t8300. I do some video encoding, usually a couple times a week. It's extremely stressful on the cpu's and both chips ran at 97% to 100%. Both used the same file (size/settings) and the same program.

    Lenovo y460 Intel i5 520M:

Finished 13mins faster(About twice as fast) than the T8300

    Max temp. 91C

    Lenovo t61 Intel t8300:

13 mins. slower that the i5

    Max temp. 71C

Just got my shipping confirmation for my Y560 and its coming from....Shanghai, China?! It'll be here tomorrow since the sales rep hooked me up with free two day shipping. Still, China?

Has anyone else ordered a Y560? If so, is yours shipping from the US or China?

Many manufacturing facilities are in China. The reason why it takes so long to ship is that usually when you place an order, the parts are assembled together overseas and shipped here.

To date nether the current Y460 or Y560 have a 3D screen.
There was a demo of a Y560 with a 3D screen at CES but no configurations have that now.

alright thanks, thinking of buying y460 because theres employee discount but can't configure it tho. Since the y560 isnt out here in Canada yet, if the y560 has 3d screen, i wonder if i should wait for that. However, theres no configuration for it, I guess I will buy the y460.

Regardless of the heat, how is the fan noise when using the Intel graphics doing normal tasks (ie. surfing web, watching video) on the Y460? Fan noise and heat are understandable when gaming with ATI. But normally I am in a quiet room and even the slightest noise bugs me. Currently I am using the T400 C2D which is pretty damn silent, but sadly missing the graphics power.

Also in some ads the Y460 appears to have a white keyboard, which I prefer, yet when I am ordering there is no such option to choose from.

^^^ Sadly the fan(on mine at least) is slightly loud. If people are talking in the room though, you can't really notice it. As for the keyboard, I noticed that people in China who were reviewing them had white keyboards, while USA/Canada seem to be black. I would call Lenovo and ask them about it if you really want a white keyboard.

Canadian deal for the Y460 (i5, 5650, 4GB, etc) is $839. I'm guessing this is a pretty solid deal? If so, I'm going to pull the trigger.

My only concerns at this point is the trampoline keyboard and Intel furnace.

^^^^ For that price, I would say yes. The main reason I got this computer compared to the others was price. If it wasn't that cheap I wouldn't have took it. Plus mine hasn't melted yet. :)

Could anyone call Lenovo and ask when they're gonna launch Y460/Y560 in the market apart from USA and China (especially I'm curious about central Europe - Czech republic)? I would appreciate it.
