that crucial is not bad but it won;t do 250/200 in real life, thats paper spec.
inside is an Indilinx barefoot controller (had alot of firmware updates over last year or so) and 64mb dram. try looking for a firmware update, the firmware hs brought performance up alot over last year from what i hear
the drive is comparable to indlinx-mlc drives in this review:
OCZ's Vertex 2, Special Sauce SF-1200 Reviewed - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
there is a review for your specific drive here: HEXUS.net - Review :: Crucial CT256M225 256GB SSD review. Keen pricing making sense? : Page - 9/9
drive performance is not bad, but the random read/write (alot of this at bootup) is not fantastic---overall ssds just have not matured to stable level overall as an industry with a common feature set and performance level so u basically have to hunt around for an ssd which fits your specific needs. firmare may address this overtime tho

anyone have any in depth reviews of the y460/560?
-
Can anyone recommend me a good bag to keep Y460 in ?
I really liked Alienware's bag. ( MOBILE EDGE Alienware 11X Portfolio Binder Case : Laptop/Notebook Accessories | Dell Canada )
But I am reckoning that it's going to be too small for Y460.

hey y560 owners, what do you think of lenovo y560's movie quality?
-
can anyone confirm their battery time for with and without graphics on.
mine says about 4hrs regardless, so i'm not sure if my switching graphics is really switching.
Like i mentioned before, when I Was gaming starcraft 2, i didn't realize that i was using the GMA HD card; which ran it fine. And my ATI 5730 ran the game the same. -
-
it is. i already checked.
and the ati icons in taskbar comes on sometimes as well, but not always; but the front light led will always on if the ATI is switched to "on". -
try running some benchmarks?
check if the heat incrases -
Gosh, I hate waiting game...
It's been only one day since I placed my order and I am already going a little nuts. -
you gonna have to wait a while. took me 3-4 weeks.
-
That's what I've read on the web. Some extreme cases said 3 months.
I kinda miss Dell in such cases where they deliver a lot faster. -
Well I finally pulled the trigger on a Y560. My old ASUS S96S is on its last legs.
I've been doing some serious searching for the last few weeks on the best possible laptop for the money. I wanted something in 15-16", an i5 520+ or i7 processor, 4GB DDR3, a Radeon #650 or a Nvidia #50M 1GB or higher, and under $1200. After those minimum specs, my main concern was build quality.
I was pretty much sold on the ASUS N61Jq. It's similar to the Y560, but with 1x USB 3.0 port. In exchange it is slightly larger and heavier, not as good looking, and had even more complaints about the quality of the LCD screen. I saw the Y560, but dismissed it out of hand because it was way too expensive for me. However, when I found the $350 off coupon going around, which brought the base price of the i7 Y560 under a grand, I just couldn't pass it up.
I can't wait for it to get here. When it does I'll be sure to post my initial impressions or maybe a mini-review. -
-
Me, a Canadian.
But, if you browse through Lenovo's official forum, you will see a ton of people who had to wait 3+ months to get their laptop delivered. If I have to wait more than a month, I will cancel my order. -
The 3 month wait is often for Thinkpad's. Mine took 3 weeks with a 13 day wait for shipping.
-
-
i ordered my y460 May 25, it shipped may 27 got mine June 3 (according to UPS it was shipped from East Coast, to me here in California) extra day delay due to Memorial day in there
i heard the wait is longer if you customize or add alot of misc parts (accessories or non stock chargers, etc).
my order included the y460 + warranty only, and came quick -
I ordered nothing else. Just the laptop and warranty. (Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 - 063335U)
My order still says "Submitted" though. I do not like that. At least say "processing" or somethin'. -
maybe it was faster for me cause i used my gf's credit card to buy it ?
j/k
they should get u processed tomorrow, Mondays are rough!
for me personally Lenovo Beat it's own "estimated delivery" they give u when the order processes by a good 4-5 days, so hope they can do the same for you! -
New review of the y460(New to me
) Extremely vague and I slightly disagree about the "bad" battery life. Although list price it is expensive, I'm sure most of you know with coupons, it is quite cheap.

I was wondering what the dobly home theater technology that the sticker on my y560 tells me I have.
-
-
-
On the other hand, Lenovo order status page is just lacking. I gave in and called today to ask status of my order.
A lady told me "It's being built. I don't have shipping date, sir."
It's been only 2 days (3 days if I include Sunday), so that response is fine.
If I hear that after a week, that will be a bad sign. -
Can anybody do a test for me on the Y460? I want to see what the battery life is like on this unit before I buy. Tried finding a good review with it detailed but no luck. I want to know if you put a movies on the hard drive and play them how long does it last? It will need to be watchable so do not dim all the way down the screen or anything. Make it so its watchable, and with headphones if that makes a difference...Ideally I would want 4-6 hours...be able to watch 2 movies on a plane...if not I am not sure I can get this laptop.
if the movies play fine on the integrated graphcis rather than the ati gpu then please lock it in on the integrated graphics to save battery life.
Thanks in advance! -
Hello again! Here's one review Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 Review - Display, Peformance, Graphics, & Battery
The screen is bright and doesn't drain the battery in the process. That 4 hour mark would be the highest you can get while watching a movie. At 100% battery and idle, it says 6 hours on the dot. -

hi, new user of the Y460. everything is great so far, except for one thing. every part is cool except for the wireless card area. it heats up so much that i can feel the heat on the right palm rest. anyone else experiencing this, and is there a fix to this?
-
Called Lenovo today again.
Was told that my order was released from factory. The CSR said it's take maximum of 10 days before it would be shipped.
Why none of those say on order status page, I do not know. It is still "submitted". -
Ordered a Y560 on the 5th, ended up cancelling on the 6th because of a deal I could get on a Dell XPS 16......
Now they shipped it on the 8th! (Even though the estimated ship date was 6/15!)
-
why didnt anyone mention y560 review?
-
I am not sure, but in my opinion there are many decent competitors out there for y560, 15 inch basically.
-
I've looked around quite a bit and haven't found any Y560 review worth looking at. The few that I've seen have been very cursory, and have all based their judgment on the high price. At the MSRP of $1400 (for the i7 w/ 4GB) they are very expensive and have plenty of competition with better price/performance ratios (Like the ASUS N61Jq).
However, with the coupons going around you can get it for around $950. At that price level it has the same or better hardware as its major competitors, looks better (in my opinion at least), and carries the Lenovo name (which I hope translates to high build quality, I'll see when mine gets in). -
Oh, and although the 'estimated ship date' when I ordered was the 10th, when I check my order status online it now says the 14th
.
-
-
I might as well give it a shot.
Though threatening to cancel after only 3 days is ridiculous, so I am gonna wait. -
Anyone replaced their WIFI card with a mini-pci one (full height, so it's the slot next to the existing one)? I got an Intel 4965AGN, plugged it into the mini-pci slot next to the existing WIFI card, plugged in the antenna cables, but Windows won't detect anything. No driver missing in Device Manager, no WIFI card detected either... It's as if the card doesn't exist. Anyone?
-
They shipped it next day. I don't think it's a coincidence -
-
-
-
but I think I'll be happy with this laptop anyway. I'll let you guys know how the laptop is when I receive it (probably and hopefully early next week).

I want to buy an ideapad y560 from lenovo site and for this item it said ships within 9 bus days, is it real?! ( I will buy it without any option )
now Im in USA and I have to came back to my country in next 2 weeks and I just want to know if they shipped before this time ( 2weeks ) I order it, otherwise ... -
I bought the Y560 on the evening of the 7th. They told me it would ship on the 10th. The next day my order status changed to ship on the 14th. This morning, I got a shipment confirmation that it actually left the warehouse on the 9th, and will be at my door on the 11th (though I did pay the extra $25 for 2nd day air shipping)!!!! I think they just give worst case shipping dates. Unless you buy accessories or a custom system, hopefully you'll have as much luck as I did!
-
Meanwhile, I've been calling Lenovo to get updated order status. My order was released from factory on 8th (which I believe is pretty fast) and is on its way to shipping department which would take 10 days max to reach (the DOH part), packed, and shipped out.
If all goes well, I'd get it by end of this month which is the best case scenario I think.
Basically, it's a hit or miss case with Lenovo. If you get (extremely) lucky, you get yours shipped out within 2 days according to Lenovo official forum. If you are unlucky dude, you get to wait up to maximum 3 months.
In general, you get yours within 3 weeks.
It does seem though that, if you cancel your order after around 10 days or so, they ignore your cancellation and ship it out expediently the next day. lol
You belong to lucky dudes, heh. -
hey guys, an update from Singapore!
Good news, the Lenovo retailers here have launched Rapid Drive in the y460 and y560 range, which hopefully means that it will be reaching you guys soon! It comes in a package or 32GB SSD + 640GB HDD over here.
Bad news, it comes at a huge and ultimately(I think) impractical cost.
Let me break it down for you.
Here in Singapore, we have 3 configurations for the y460, the main difference being the processor and rapiddrive, they are listed below.
1) I5-430m - 1499 SGD = 1067 USD
2) I5-540m - 1599 SGD = 1139 USD
3) I7-620m (with rapid drive and 8gb ram) = 2499 SGD = 1780 USD
Note that the price difference between the I5-540m and I7 with Rapid Drive is 900SGD which equals 641USD.
That is a 56% increase in price for the slight boost in processor speed, an extra 4gb of ram which seems like overkill, and that 32gb worth of SSD.
For that kind of money, wouldn't it be simpler and cheaper just to replace the entire HDD with a larger capacity SSD?
The Y560 launched with the same specs as in the US, with the I7-720qm and 8gb of RAM, but this time with a Blu-Ray Player and Rapid Drive.
The cost? 2799 SGD which is 1993 USD. That is about 700USD more expensive then the 1299USD Y560 in the US (without coupons).
I'm really disappointed in the pricing, as Rapid Drive is meant to be an affordable hybrid system where users get to enjoy an SSD experience at a lower cost. I had been looking forward to Rapid Drive as tech prices in Singapore tends to be higher, but I guess it was really not meant to be. With the 900 SGD saved, I can get myself a nice Zalman cooler, an OCZ Vertex Series SSD and have some spare change.
We don't even know what kind of SSD they use in Rapid Drive and the performance might questionable compared to benchmarked SSDs.
I'm still going to get the Y460 as it is a pretty solid notebook for the price (at least in SG) with the I5-540m configuration.
My word of advice for people hanging out for Rapid Drive, I recommend that you get the Y460 and install your own SSD, or maybe the new Seagate Momentus XTs that have similar hybrid technology at a much much lower cost.
Sorry for the long post but I guess I had to let it out. Hope this helps in your purchase decision!
P.S. Pricing might still be different at the end of the day, seeing that we got entirely different configurations from the US and even the Chinese websites, but I daresay that the pricing mechanism wouldn't change very much. -
Those prices are insane!
