yea, tho when i change the settings in the intel colour enhancements, and use hte onkey theatre, and when I change back to normal mode it changed back to the original, but the setting in intel colour enhancement is still changed...
when i change the Gamma to -0.9 it looks close to movie mode...

Sup guys,
I discovered a new model of Y560, which goes with Pentium P6000 processor instead of i3/i5. Is it worth buying P6000 modification, or the perfomance of this CPU is too low for modern games and its better to spend extra cash on i3 version? Cant find any tests or reviews of P6000 in the Net.
Thanks in advance, A. -
I sorted out my HDMI issue... not sure what the deal was, but it's working now. I just need to get a wireless KB and Mouse so I can game on the big screen.
PS. AlbuquerqueFX, nice work on those drivers. It smoothed out Dragon Age big time. Rep +1 -
Is anybody experiencing an annoying high pitched whine in their Y460? Wondering if anybody has a solution for it. Thanks.
-
Read this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/508139-cpu-whine-y460-wireless-mice.html -
Well, since I"m the author of the thread linked, it needs to be clarified yet again:
First, it didn't whine until I plugged in a wireless mouse. I went through three separate manufacturers of 2.4Ghz nano-transceiver mice, and they all had the problem. But when I remove the mouse? No more whine. Other USB devices (memory sticks, wired mice, joystick, my DSLR, my Mp3 player) do not make the laptop whine.
Second, it isn't the processor, it's the power supply circuitry on the motherboard itself. This isn't Intel's design flaw, it's the manufacturer who built the motherboard. Someone didn't get the right RF choke circuitry built, and so one of the coils or mosfets or a badly designed and long PCB trace is 'ringing'.
Things you can try to make the whine go away (if you have a persistent whine, and not something specific to the USB interface like mine is)
1. Turn off bluetooth. This was a problem on my old Dell Inspiron E1505.
2. Mute the microphone level on your webcam mic. Sounds weird, but a large number of people have succeeded with this.
3. If you're suffering from the same thing as me, then remove USB devices from your machine and see if that solves it. -
Thanks for the info guys. AlbuquerqueFX, I tried taking out my USB mouse and it did lower the noise (almost to the point that I can't hear it) but if I plug back in my mouse it starts getting louder again. Going to try the others and see.

Hey does that catalyst 10.7 driver you linked a few pages ago work for the y460? And are there any issues with it at all? Thanks!
-
@ Impulse. It works like a charm, but make sure you follow the directions they said. That is to say, the portion where your screen goes black, and you wait til the HD light is only flashing somewhat more regularly and normally, and then power off (COMPLETELY) using the button. I waited 10 minutes when I did it just to be safe. Also, make sure you power off completely, because if the computer just goes into a sleep mode or something, it won't work.
Had great results though. Seriously smoothed out my framerate in a few games. -
Why doesn't Lenovo update their stat sheets on these models? It still has Y450. Doesn't help much.
-
I am seeing some new options on the Y560 notebooks.
Y560 with i7-740QM CPU and Blu Ray!
I do not see it on Lenovo's website yet though. -
Got my Y460 yesterday! I should have had it Friday but I wasn't home and the UPS guy wouldn't let the babysitter sign for it for whatever damn reason....
At any rate, I completely wiped the drive and put on Win 7 64 bit with no issues, got all the software put back on I wanted and got the ATI Catalyst 10.7 drivers on with zero issues.
Only thing I couldn't find on Lenovo's site was the CD/DVD burning software, anyone know where it is or can suggest another decent free alternative?
I will be spending the next day or 2 copying everything from my old machine to this one, when that's done I will run some benchmarks if anyone wants to see anything, any requests?
Thanks again for all the help on this thread guys! -
ImgBurn is quite good..
-
Nailz: Is the display fine?
-
Yeah, it looks just fine, I don't see any dots anywhere... So far so good.
-
hmmmmmm nvm ignore this post i posted about the new catalyst not letting me switch graphics but i must have turned off my y560 too early and i redid it and this time the switchable graphics work
-
Finally ordered my laptop-to-be!
After weeks of searching and hours of reading, I now ordered the y560 (i7,7200rpm, 2024MB@1333) at a German webshop.
Read the entire thread yesterday, from which I can still feel a faint headache
But is was worth it, since this thread was the most elaborate source of my y560-information.. thanks to youso +rep from me
Will keep you up-to-date

Anyone do any boot times with the RapidDrive technology?
-
I got my Y560 on Monday.
I'm facing a pretty strange issue - when I install Ubuntu, it does not detect my network card at all.
No other problems, performance is just about perfect. However, this Ubuntu issue is really bothering me. Anyone else having a similar issue? -
One thing I have noticed is when trying to access my Western Digital 500GB My Book network drive, it essentially crashes my entire network and I have to reboot the router (Linksys WRT 54G).
My network has been up for months with zero issues then the first time I tried accessing the network disk the whole network ate itself, this was repeatable a couple of times. I should note this was when using my wireless interface, when plugged into the network this doesn't happen.
Router is at latest firmware and my new Y460 has all the latest drivers from the Lenovo support site.
Any ideas? -
my switchable graphics wont work for some reason bcuz when i downloaded the new catalyst switchable graphics still worked but now it doesnt can anyone help me??????

Is there a way to make the graphics option switch automatically to intel when in battery and to ati when plugged?
-
-
when I was playing with the installations (eventually did a system restore due to ati downgrade and system 32 deletes, haha) I managed to get the prompt in graphic switching "Automatically switch to built in graphics when on battery" I read somewhere that this feature is available but depends on the system. Think its a feature of the amd chip using ati.
This would be great to have, hope we can find a work around.
Im playing Modern warfare 2, woud want to get better fps with my y460 450m. Any suggestions on the overclock settings , what app to use for that? Graphic card settings I just leave it to the game optimal settings.
Regards -
Curious though which can squeeze out more performance.
What's a good profile setting for MSI? -

Anyone know the dimensions and weight of the y460 and y560? Thanks.

Does anyone know if an i5 CPU would replace an i3-350M CPU? I bought a Y560 and I expect it to arrive at the end of September. I'd like to change its' CPU (an i3) with an i5. Are the sockets the same?
-
The socket is an rPGA 988-pin config; all of the Arrandale processors are available in this socket. However, they're also available in a BGA 1288-pin config too, so make sure to buy the 988 version.

What programs are people using to monitor their video card temperatures? I can't seem to get ATI tray tools to work because of some driving signing issue, and the other "ATI tool" utility doesn't show any temperatures.
Also, the left mouse button of my touchpad has an annoying squeak whenever I press it. Does anyone else have this? -
CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting -
This is my first post in these forums,
I've been contemplating buying a laptop for a very long time D:
I've narrowed it down to two I guess
Either the y460 or y560
Or the acer 4820T (i5 430m, 5650 graphic card)
I like the y560 because of the bigger screen and better speakers (I dont really need the mobility of 4820T) but i've been getting doubts because of the display/ driver/ other problems people have been having with it. I want to do some mediocre gaming.
Over here in India the y560 (i5 430) costs 52k (1115 U.S. dollars)
y460 (i5 430) costs 1050 USD
and the 4820T costs 981 USD
What do you guys think? -
I bought the i3-330m with the HD5730 card.
It's pretty much what I wanted. Looks really nice, excellent (I mean EXCELLENT) sound quality, good display (I didn't notice any problems there, despite reading a lot about them), feels quite solid, just a slight flex in the keyboard near the Y and U keys and rather cool operating (except near the power button - heat vents are there) and reasonable battery.
Also, I am able to run every game with all settings maxed out.
No driver issues (except with older Linux - I just switched to Ubuntu 10.04 - no issues after that) and switchable graphics works like a dream.
The i3-330m costs significantly less at 46k, so do consider that. -
The same model is available on websites like newegg for $950 with an i7 processor
Mail Forwarding of American Products for International Delivery says it would cost about $120 to ship 8-9 lbs package from USA to India
So 950+120 is still less than the $1150 for the i5 in India -
I don't know how much more the duty would cost, and it could well be a significant amount.
I had looked into the possibility as well. Didn't go with it.
There isn't a significant difference between an i3 and i5, but i7 might be a different story. -
Just opened my y460
Question for everyone:
Does your Y460 depress a significant amount on the edge of the screen between the hinges? It almost looks bowed on mine. I also have that loose hinge issue where the screen open when the chassis is held vertical.
The screen also looks pretty terrible, with very very poor vertical viewing angles (for someone whos used to high quality, high resolution screens). I haven't upgraded the drivers yet though. -
I guess i'll go with the i5 for 52k -
I don't get the big bruahaha about it, really. The display is quite bright and crisp. -
or 7.2k
and can it be upgraded to the latter if its not? -
The hard drive is easy to access and take out. -
But can I add a ssd drive manually later and install drivers to make it work like the rapiddrive thing? -
-
Hey guys, did they just come out with new Y560 models? One has an i5-460m, which I've never seen before. I guess the 460m is a new processor Intel just released? The model with the 460m looks pretty nice, other than the 5400rpm hard drive, which I would just replace.
Also, what is the Rapid Drive thing? How much faster is it than a 500GB 7200rpm drive?
Oh, and what sort of battery life does the Y560 get with an i5 processor? And with an i7 processor? -
Thus, it's "faster than a 500GB 7200rpm drive" when you're doing your most common tasks (booting Windows is an obvious one.) But when you do something other than your most common tasks (ie, loading up a game that you haven't played in a month) then it's going to go as fast as the spinning disk in the system.
Want some better examples and benchmarks? Go look for the 500GB Seagate Momentus XT drive -- it's a hybrid drive of 8GB SSD and 500GB spinning disk. This gives you the same effect as RapidDrive, only that RapidDrive will have a bigger portion of SSD available.
Back to the processor difference question: quad core i7's do not have integrated video like the Arrandale i3 / i5 / dual-core i7 models, so you will always be using the ATI video card. Battery life in this case will be far lower for all the obvious reasons. And finally, the dual-core i7's typically have more clockspeed than the i5 options, so they will subsequently eat more power when under load. At idle or under low CPU load, they should be roughly similar. -
After using it for a bit, I've realized the Y460's LCD is worse than I originally thought. Updating the drivers to 10.7 actually made it worse.
I noticed problems when viewing youtube videos with any sort of black.
If you go to Black level - Lagom LCD test there is significant moving dithering on the first 2 rows of boxes. Adjusting the gamma and contrast to be able to see all of the boxes only creates little antsy dots. Hmm, I thought only the Y560 had that problem.
The integrated intel card only causes static dithering but it does have significantly worse contrast than the ATI.
Update:
Updating the bios seemed to help. It blue screened a few times, but now it's stable.
The temporal dithering on the ATI card is gone, but now color/shade gradients are very noticeable, almost like Lenovo just got rid of colors to fix the problem.
For everyones reference, I have the samsung LCD (SEC under device manager) -
Yes.
Do double check, but that's what I saw on their website. -
