I just reinstalled ATI 10.7. It was a pita but I got it done. I just wanted the proper package.![]()
To my surprise, switching between intel gpu and ati is now one step less.

is it safe to install the new official graphics driver over the version/method that alquerquefx mentioned? anyone tried?
-
(See screen cap on my earlier post)
-
Is it possible for my laptop to get switchable graphics through some download because I don't have it originally when I bought my y560.
-
i beleive it depends on what cpu you have in your 560. i knwo the 520m has a build in graphics card which allows it to switch between the ati 5650 and the intel built in graphics inside the cpu.
-
Also for curious people out there i have upgraded the thermal compound on my y460 to IC 7 Diamond thermal paste and i have droped 6-7 degrees on the gpu alone at full load. my gpu never breaks 76 degrees and cpu temps are all under 78. a very worth while upgrade. -
also i'm curious if anyone out there has upgraded the cpu in their y460? currently have the i5-520m but was looking at upgrading at a later time to an i7-620m or a i7-720qm.
-
I found this link, do you think this will give me switch graphics?
Re: Catalyst 10.7 will not update core i7 Y560 - lenovo community -
-
i beleive u are out of luck and u have just one graphics card in the laptop which is the 5650
-
Does that mean I can't switch/upgrade to a different graphic card like all the other models who have switchable option on? What about updating my graphic card from the site?

1.Go to device manager, remove and delete driver for ati. Restart, you should have a vga only driver there.
2.Remove current 10.7 Ati using its uninstaller. Launch its set up app and uninstall, custom. Restart to safe mode.
3. Once in safe mode, launch Driver sweeper. Analyze then clean up. Restart to safe mode.
4. Go to regedit, HKLM/software/Wow6432Node Delete the 2 folders that starts with ATI.
5. Go up to HKLM/software/ and erase 2 more folders that start with ATI
6. Go to HKCU/software and erase the only ATI folder
7. Press win key and E to launch win explorer. Navigate to program Filex x86 and delete the ATI Technologies folder if its still there.
8. Go to c:/Drivers and delete the folder AMD Graphics Driver.
9. Go to c:/windows/SysWOW64. Add the column Company by right clicking on any of the existing columns.
10. Delete the files who has ATI technologies Inc and Amd Micro Devices Inc.
11. Reboot to normal windows. At this point, you have cleaned your system of all traces from your original ATI install. The hardware device of the ati gpu should be using a standard vga driver which windows installed during step 1.
12. Launch the official installer package available here (322mb) Lenovo Support - Drivers & Downloads
If you get a slow response or an error message saying there's a lot of bit apps running, just restart y460 and relaunch the package.
Choose custom installation, you will see now that everything needs to be installed and nothing "old" has been left. Installation will finish with or without messages. Restart to windows.
Wait until windows has settled down. Go to start, and launch CCC. You will now be led to the set up page of ATI.
Congrats, you should updated to the official package.
PS Just to check, you can launch the setup app of ATI just to check if you got everything installed right. Again, just choose custom and not express.
*In between steps 2 and 3, I used Your Uninstaller. I also manually removed some of ati application remnants using its advance installer. However, this may not be needed anymore as we went and deleted folders, registry entries. -
I got some generic brand. Its much thicker than the samsonite 14 inch sleeve I saw.
-
So it's not my cable, not my drivers, could it be it doesn't like using a HDMI to DVI cable? Would things work better if this was a strictly HDMI to HDMI affair?
I have no clue and would love to hear some options from you guys. -
go to start, type device manager on the search field then launch it.
Go to System Devices. Look for High Definition Audio controller. Chances are, there's one that has an arrow icon.
If you see this
just right click and enable it. That's the hdmi driver device disabled. It does that for some unknown reason.
After enabling that, plug in your hdmi. Sound should now be coming out of your TV. To check, go to realtek HD audio manager (task bar) Click on audio devices and you should see hdmi in Playback.
If you dont want to plug in and just want to check if we really did enable hdmi via device manager, right click on the playback device list of Sound and enable show disabled devices. It should look like this
-
I'm leaning towards this being a problem with your monitor, rather than your laptop. Especially after you talked about unplugging the power from your monitor and then re-plugging it, and the video working for a short while thereafter. -

Malaysia now offer Y460 with i5 460M and nVidia GT425M for MYR 2999 or USD$966....
-
Anyone fixed their dancing pixel problem yet on their Y560? Does the Lenovo BIOS update help?
-
I don't have dancing pixel problem with my y560 since bought it. some owner in lenovo forum report update bios fixed this problem.
-
-
What about the issues with the big cursor? Anyone experiencing them with their new laptops?
-
big cursor because of driver issues. update new driver can fix it
-
Hey guys, I've been lurking around forever, and have been really interested in a Y460 especially since there is a deal for it on the Lenovo website for $850+tax. With all the reading, I have yet to read anything about somebody running the FF14 benchmark on it. Has anyone done it yet and wouldn't mind to share the results? With similar specs as the Envy 14, I'd think it should be fine. This is more out of curiosity.
Thanks!

-
Awesome! Thanks for that and all the other Y460 contributions, AboutThreeFitty! That may just seal the deal for me.

My next step will definitely be a 7200 rpm drive. What tool are you using to OC 350? -
AMD GPU Clock Tool: AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870 download from Guru3D.com
It says it's for the 5870 but it works just fine for the 5650 and some other ATI cards. I run 700/900 as my "safe" clocks. -
-
So I changed to the above setting and got a 2005 for a new score..... Quite a difference this made, surprised that 700/900 is safe if 300/300 was the default, unless ATI is underclocking these things?
-
I'm not expert on games/benchmarks but I do believe that the hard drive is only going to improve loading times, not in game performance. Don't quote me though.
550/800 are the default clocks. I do believe just like the CPU, it downclocks itself when it doesn't need the power. -
Regardless I still want a 7200 drive at some point, and someday when RAM prices go down that will get bumped to 8GB as well.
Interesting about the default clocks, as mine clearly said 300/300 when I first logged in. I just reset the tool to put it back to the default and it sent them 300/300 as well.... -
Ive been tracking my wireless disconnect issues since I got my y460.
Several tweaks, hotfix and various updates later , its still there. I even thought for a while it was the router itself. Im sure that what I did made my system run better though. haha
The disconnections just happen randomly but seems to occur when I exit certain programs.
I came across this post How do I un-install ReadyComm? - lenovo community. I uninstalled using Your Uninstaller and so far so good.
Is this an issue with our system? I didnt even know it was running to begin with. -
never seen wireless disconnect in my y560
-
i'm looking to get an external monitor. anyone got any recommendations? -
-
I'm using the latest Intel driver, and I have yet to encounter any 'disconnect' issues. I've had the laptop out doing mass file download overnight via the wireless, and have not encountered the problem after ~6.5Gb of Microsoft product download over the course of about eight hours.
I'd look into potential hardware issues at that point. -
Yep, I do suspect its the router (huawei e5832) or the way the y460 interacts with it.
I turned off ipv6, did the speedguide.net tweaks and upgraded firmware of the router already. Installed latest wireless pro software and included the mac address of the router to the profile. With that, so far so good since last night.
Do you guys use homegroup or have had that disabled?
Previously the torrents made me disconnect. Then it was the every 12 hour cycle when dhcp was renewed. -
how do i overclock the m radeon 5730 in the y560? will it void the warranty and whats a safe speed?
-
I don't know if it does or not. I wouldn't tell them you are doing it, or have the program installed if you have to send it in for any reason.
No clue about the speeds. Just go up a little at a time from stock clocks. -
Alright, so I go this great laptop about 2 months ago, and have loved it, but I've run into a pretty big problem.
First some background. I recently started playing Red Faction on different resolutions and messing around with a lot of power settings. At one point last week in the icon area both icons for the dedicated and integrated graphics chips were showing.
Yesterday, I booted up and after the initial Windows loading screen, the screen went blank. All the lights were lit, hard disk light was blinking, and I'm pretty sure I heard the first Windows sound. I held the power button down, turned it off, and turned it back on. Same thing. I then took out the battery and held the power button for 30 seconds, and I would get to the windows log in screen with ridiculous amounts of green pixel strips, and then it would go blank again. At one point everything was good until I got to desktop and plugged in my mouse, then got the pixel strips again and then blank/freeze.
I tried troubleshooting a bit, going to BIOS and switching to dedicated, but then I wouldn't even get a Windows load. Eventually, I was able to get into safe mode, and I've found that something got seriously messed up with the graphics drivers. I called Lenovo, didn't help at all, just made me do the same things I had already tried.
After somehow getting back into safe mode I tried to uninstall/install new drivers from the Lenovo website, but nothing seems to be working. I keep getting strange errors from the installers. I tried to do a system restore to Saturday, but I get a blue screen after it starts up and goes for a bit.
Sorry if this If anyone knows what is going on or what I screwed up that would be great, and I guess any assistance on uninstalling/reinstalling the graphics drivers specifically in my situation would be much appreciated. -
MFB has a great how-to on deleting your old drivers and re-installing on page 182 of this thread.
This happened to me last week and I think I started it by just trying to upgrade to the new video drivers right over the top of the old ones. I had the same exact symptoms. I ended up having to restore to a previous point a couple of days prior and that worked for me, I also had to run chkdsk against my drive as things weren't happy on my hard drive as well.
Everything is back and running, admittedly at the moment I am too chicken to try and to the driver upgrades again as things are working fine. -
Just tried that, after cleaning up the registry and program files/etc I restarted, got the initial Windows loading screen, then blank and the windows noise for the login screen. I have no clue what's happening, maybe its the integrated card that got messed up? Is there a similar guide for fixing issues with the Intel graphics drivers? -
Hi All -
Like many of you, I uninstalled a bunch of what I believed to be unnecessary software that came with the machine, and switched off a few services (but not many). I just realized that the volume buttons above the KB aren't working. Yikes, how did that happen? I reinstalled anything that looked related to audio and/or hotkey functionality, but they still don't work.
Do you guys have any idea what software or service controls those buttons?
Thanks for the help, grant- -
On the first step of my how to is
1. .Go to device manager, remove and delete driver for ati. Restart, you should have a vga only driver there
What happened after the first step? It seems you skipped this one.
Restart and enter bios. Change switchable graphics to the other one(cant remember the name, there's only two)
Save and exit.
Launch windows, might take a while but you'll see it all bigger. Im assuming the ati card has been detected and generic vga card has been installed. Launch device manager and see what driver is installed under video. If its generic vga, then reboot and go back to bios. Put it back to switchable graphics.
Proceed to number 2 of the how to. How to update ATI from non standard 10.7 to Lenovo released 10.7 -
I have use on occasion system restore. It works but im sure it did mess up my bt installation. haha A simple uninstall and reinstall fixed that.
Its a pita to upgrade or downgrade ati video software. The method I've shared works for me. I came from 10.6, upgraded to 10.7. Had issues, fixed it. Made a mistake of loading 10.8, went down to 10.7. I then decided to upgrade to the standard lenovo 10.7 package which had the no notification dialog box when switching.
Let me know how it works out. -
Get to safe mode, uninstall ATI driver, reboot, get to normal desktop, one time got vga to install, other time it failed. When it worked, ran Catalyst setup, installed ATI drivers, rebooted, blank screen at login. Reboot to safe mode, do it again, fails.
I have no clue what's going on. Am I installing the wrong drivers? I've tried the one from page 182 and the one directly from the Lenovo site.
And why and when should I switch to dedicated graphics from switchable in the BIOS?
Thanks again for the help. -
