I completely agree. Although VGA is still a must-have but at least they could have fitted it with a HDMI/DisplayPort. Even some of the much cheaper netbooks have these.

what is so good about HDMI/displayport anyway?
-
DP is meant to replace VGA, DVI, and other computer connectors, while HDMI is meant to replace S-Video, component video, and other consumer connectors. Use Google or Wikipedia if you want to know how they stack up against their older formats.

In VGA's defense, I hooked up an X200t to my monitor via VGA and it was very high quality. I have used other VGA outs before and the text was fuzzy and blurry, but not on this. The lack of HDMI or Displayport is regrettable but not a dealbreaker anymore for me. Before I tried VGA, I thought not having digital out was a dealbreaker.

I dunno if you saw this but the i3 will be on the lower end models http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/16/thinkpad-x201s-official-maintenance-manual-reveals-new-models/

I wonder if there will be other differences aside from the i3 on these new lower end 'i' models...
-
Maybe the higher ends models at some point will get USB 3.0 while the base wont? If the price is right I would not mind check out the X201is(if it light like the S model) or maybe a model with the i5 cpu. Some how I would think the i models will not have the option of the optical bay battery or the longer battery life?

Any sense/guess re what changes the new 201s will include (e.g., whether it will include a built-in webcam) versus the 200s? And any guess re what the likely $ price of the 201 or 201s will be?

You may rightly say that Lenovo should have also included a display port or HDMI port, but VGA port is definitely here to stay, probably even for the next few generation of Thinkpads.
The fact is, X200/X201 were not designed to be multimedia-feature-rich laptop, they were designed to be business laptops, and people need video-out because they have to hook up their laptops with projector for their powerpoint slides. All of these projectors have VGA port on them, and probably for most of them, VGA is the only option for hooking up the laptop. You can certainly find some situations where a digital port is needed, but these are the exception not the norm. -
considering that VGA can still give out 1080 x 1920 output, which is equivalent to full hd. that's good enough for me
New specs on X201 (yes, X201!)
