    Hi everybody,
are there any news about modification for a x200s LED backlit with a AFFS LED backlight??

Long ago I read something about a possible change with the HV112WX6-100 but could Not find any final reports on that.

LED AFFS will not work. You must use the CFFL version. If your X200s has the WXGA+ screen currently all the lcd assembly components must be changed. If you have the WXGA screen, you just need the screen.

In any case this mod is now obsolete. If you want a nice screen just get an X220.

Hi, thanks. But for my x200s with LED backlight the ordinary Panel change will not work, I would have to go back to CCFL :-(

About the x220, there is nothing wrong with my x200s. And the display change would be much cheaper than buying a new x220 ;-)

The screen alone is $200. In your case, you need a new lid, bezel, hinges, inverter, cable, etc too. Your X200s will fetch $400-450. X220's show up in the outlet in the $600 range from time to time.

Sorry for bumping the thread, but I bought a used x200 and it has this horrible screen (ccfl) that if you move your head even a little from the "sweet spot", it illuminates like hell. It's like the gamma shifts are huge, and every calibration I've tried fails miserably.
I want to ask, is this normal? Or is the panel defective? And if it's defective, would the "affs" panel work ok?

Also, anyone has a guide for replacing the screen? I've only seen the one on the official manual, but I wonder if there is one somewhere in the web which is more "user-friendly".

I can't help you with the guide, but if you're needing a more accurate display the AFFS display will be a significant improvement. Unfortunately, most notebook manufacturers put pretty cheap TN panels in their notebooks, which for the most part have pretty narrow viewing angles and fairy bad color accuracy. IPS and AFFS are different technologies which are able to give better color accuracy and larger viewing angles. If you have one or have used one, iPads have IPS displays... if you don't mind the display experience on one of those, the AFFS mod on the X200 might be of benefit to you.

Thanks, but you're not really answering my question. I would like to know if anyone has/had a screen that bad like mine on their x200, or at least make an assumption if what I'm describing is normal or not. I probably should have used another thread for this question, but I figured I would make only one post for 2 closely related questions, since I'm considering buying the AFFS screen.

I didn't think the Samsung LCD in my X200 was that bad, just not near as good as the AFFS. I've certainly seen worse. There can be some variance in panels too, even for the same model. One Samsung screen might be better or worse than the next. The CFFL AFFS panels tend to have better color than the LED versions, though may dim over time.

If you hit the training site, there's videos showing how to remove and replace the LCD. That should be a good place to start. There's a link in the Sticky.
