T61 14.1" w/ camera, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, 1GB Turbo Memory, intergrated graphics, DVD burner, bluetooth, 3 yr warrenty

Decided 2 hrs after phone order to not get warrenty. Contacted orginial sales rep who said he couldn't do it today, it had already gone to production. Contact sales rep 2 next Monday.

Emailed/phoned sales rep 2 Monday with no response.

Called sales rep 3 Tuesday who said change should go through by tonight, and he would contact me.

Wednesday came and went with no change or contact.

Thursday called sales rep 4, who put me on hold to check with sales rep 3. Sales rep 4 said they are still waiting on the request. I asked why sales rep 3 never contacted me when he said he would, but of course sales rep 4 didn't know. He assured me it should be taken care of by that evening. Sales rep 3 then called to say the same thing.

Friday, no change so called sales rep 5. Sales rep 5 said, I don't know what the problem is, but I will re-request it.

Monday (7/9) still no change, AND an estimated shipping date of 8/22. Called sales rep 6 (who spoke in a very unpleasant tone to me) and asked for a manager. Left a number for a call back, but I missed the call becuase sales rep 6 did not give him the correct call back no.

Spoke to 2nd level sales rep this morning. He was very nice to expalin there is some technical disconnect between sales and the warehouse, and order changes aren't going through. Since I was not changing the order, the better option is to return the warranty after the product is shipped. He didn't know why 1st level sales reps did not explain or suggest this to me. He then said he would personally take care of the return for me after it was shipped, so I didn't have to worry about it. As far as the 7 week delay, it seems there aren't any 160GB drives from their supplier. He seemed to think a 7 week delay was a gross overestimation, but I am skeptical with all the other T61 delays. I certainly hope to get it this month. I asked if changing my hard drive to the 100GB 7200rpm would make my order go faster, and he said prob not, since the screen w/ the camera is delayed as well. If I were to chaneg my order I would get placed at the end of the line.

Bottom Line : Lower level Lenovo sales reps know nothing. Second level sales reps know a few things, but the problem is Lenovo's management (Chinese). They are the ones who contract work to companies that can't produce.

If I don't have my computer before class starts, I will cancel and buy something else.

From what I've been told, it's ALL about the 160GB HDD. If you really want it, take the stock and get your own.

My experience was exactly the same, except mine got delayed a day because of excessive volume in my local depot and I got it today.

On my new t61 right now, and loving it.

(15.4, xp, 7200rpm 100gig, 2 gig ram, wsxga+)

and i got the supposedly terrible samsung screen and i don't have a problem with it

And, delivered 7/12, they did an upgrade to express delivery. That's 9 days from order to delivery. I can't complain about that at all. I guess the moral of the story is 1) do not change your order once it has been placed and 2) expect long delays on 160GB HDD systems.

 

How many of you got 160 gb hard drives? If you did, what were your shipping dates, ari m was saying that this was causing a delay for him, I was just wondering if it did that same for anyone else.

Various calls with Lenovo rep where they tell me it is shipping any day now...
7/5 - Rep called and said the 160 GB drives are delaying the orders and recommended swapping for the 100 GB drives. OK
7/6 - I get a new order with the new config, ship dates are 8/24. Rep says not to worry, he put me on the "hot list" and all will ship w/in 3 business days, 5 at the latest. However, if it doesn't, he'd open a customer complaint on my behalf and they would contact me in 24-48 hours.
7/16-17 - Nothing has changed, nothing has shipped. I cancel my orders and start shopping at online retailers that have notebooks in stock.
7/18 - Orders placed for 4 machines from http://costcentral.com
- I receive shipping confirmation from Lenovo for the order I cancelled! wtf?
7/19 - I call Lenovo, they give me run around, so I file a complaint (which the rep who said he would file one for me never did...)
- Now I wait for 24-48 hours for them to call me back so I can complain.

Oh yeah, and I have nearly $8000 on my credit card that I can't access until the order I cancelled, and they shipped anyway (1.5 days later) gets sent back, returned, and processed. With the current customer service experience as my guide, I expect that I'll receive that credit back by the time we get a new president in office.



All in all, I'm annoyed to the point of spitting. But concur with others, Lenovo bought some great stuff from IBM in the Thinkpad, and it's the best product for my business. I love their product, and despise their sales support. Why can't they be both - #1 in business notebooks and #1 in support?

 

...oh yeah, I forgot:

7/19 - The orders from http://costcentral.com will be here tomorrow. Their customer service was excellent. 2 days after ordering, I'll finally have 4 notebooks. Much better than the 2 months after ordering from Lenovo, I have nothing but a series of empty promises (lies), wasted time, and a bad taste in my mouth for the company.

I can handle shipping delays, manufacturing delays, issues with components not being available and all that. I'm a big boy and understand how that works. But the severe lack of communication in the company and outright lies told by their sales reps is unacceptable. It's a complete lack of integrity.

 

I am hoping to have some change today for the est shipping, but get dissappointed.

It seems like the recent orders are all in September now, regardless of camera option or HD size. I guess we'll only know what the current long pole is once people start receiving their machines...

 

man thats sad.. I went for a d630 yesterday and it should be here 8/15. I cant stand these long wait times! I ordered a x61t june 28th and not sure if it will make it before september..

 

My order went through today and ESD is 8/8. I've a question: will they provide the UPS tracking number, so I'll be able to know the actual delivery date? I don't want them to deliver it when I'm not home (Lenovo's policy says as long as they attempted delivery then it's deemed delivered, even if no one is home to receive it! ).

Yes, I'm interested in this info too. I'm hoping to call Lenovo tomorrow and see if they can tell me which specific components are holding up my build...

Edit: It seems like it's the screen (WXGA+ vs. WXGA) that is delaying my shipment from 1-2 weeks to ~7 weeks.

I can't imagine waiting more then a couple months for delivery of the laptop. I think I had to wait six weeks for delivery (and going on eight) for my R60, and it was only bearable because they gave me about $150 in upgrades for free (Celeron to Core Duo).

Anyone who has been waiting more then four or five weeks and still has a shipping date that is far off, make sure you get in touch with a rep and talk with them about the unexpected delay and see what they can do. At the very least expedited shipping, but it shouldn't be too far fetched to get free component upgrades or a cash discount.

i just ordered with a config similar to vaw's system. only difference is the video card and i got a esd 8/9/07. getting super antsy. must have laptop now! i really cant imagine waiting so long to get a laptop. hopefully mine doesnt get delayed
